File in small claims court locally [2007-05-30]
it's about $25 and that fee will be reimbursed you when you win your case. They will get the money from them - that is the only way I know to recoup your loss. You need to do it legally through the court system.

It has nothing to do with creditworthiness. It has to do with you not having a place to run and hide! lol

No I live in the boonies. In Nothingville. SM [2008-11-21]
I think he has had someone for so long and my mom took care of the bill paying and he never had to worry about bills or shopping or being alone. And now he can't deal with it. They divorced because he was cheating with another woman. I told him go be with her. I mean they are divorced now. If that is what he wants go get it. He said she has a 28 year old son and a 22 year old daughter with a baby who neither one work and lay around her house. He says how am I supposed to be with someone with that kind of mess. He said if I am with her I will basically have to take on her grown kids too. I said well that is her own fault she allows her grown children to be bums. It is just a dang mess. He got himself into it though. With his bills it is like he can't sit down and say hey I can't pay for 2 vehicles and I have to get rid of one and he has other multiple bills I won't even go into. But if he is struggling to pay for both let one go back. I told him go file bankruptcy if you are having really bad problems with finanes. He said I don't want to file bankruptcy. Oh no. I said well that or lose your stuff. I have tried to give him advice and help him but he won't listen. He is stubborn.

Actually .... [2008-11-13]
You should always call for an accident report whether you think you or your vehicle is hurt or not. You could have neck pain the next day, or discover the car damage was much worse than you originally thought, and you'd need the accident report to file with your insurance. So, she had no right to get mad at you anyway. Plus she was a twit, so you were in the right again! lol ... And if Daddy is going to kill her, it probably wasn't her first time being caught at it.

Yes. [2008-11-02]
I think this is a reasonable explanation for the lump. About 3 weeks ago my son bent one of his fingers backward while playing and his finger became swollen and bruised. He kept ice on it and it went away. When we went to the pediatrician the next day they felt he had hyperextended the joint and to let them know if it did not continue to improve. It did improve after a few days. As far as the behavior, I think a lot depends on the age of the child. No one wants to think of their child as a liar but I think all children go through phases of telling stories just because they can and to see how it plays out. No they don't always make sense as to why the child would say that. It's just something they do...from my experience tends to be 1st to 3rd grade age, give or take. With that being said, I would not assume my child was lying. If the pieces of the puzzle do not fit, which it sounds like these don't, I would investigate further. I would make an appointment for a meeting with the principal. They can cover up all they want but I would want it my complaint documented in my child's file with the school (maybe write a letter to take with you to the meeting) and I would make it clear that if ANYTHING even remotely happens between these 2 children again that you will be filing a complaint with the superintendent's office and you WILL pursue it as far as necessary. After that, I would let this circumstance go. Thankfully, your daughter seems fine and hopefully the teacher and office have learned their lesson (or will have after you speak to them) and they will keep a better eye on (or get an aide) for this student. I wouldn't involve the other parents. Who knows what kind of parents he has that they don't have him under a special behavioral plan if he has had recurring problems.

Don't borrow from the 401(K)!! [2008-10-15]
NO!! Do not borrow from a 401(K) to pay credit card debt!! If the debt is all yours, contact a bankruptcy attorney and file chapter 7 to get rid of it. You can file BK individually. The 401(K) is exempt from attachment in a bankruptcy. I My credit card debt was incurred trying to keep the house. Stupid move on my part. Good luck! Things will get better.

my list is ongoing and never ending! [2008-10-10]
It seems I spend all my time working (and playing a bit around here on the internet) but I actually just cleaned out my closet and took my clothes to the Salvation army and felt very good about it. Organizing has NEVER been my thing and i wish so much that it was. I have loads and loads of paperwork to sort out, file, etc. I try every day to go through my mail (you wouldnsave to shred).. I need to send some baby gifts off to my baby sister -my niece is now 7 weeks old!! - i have attached a pic because she is the new love of my life and i like to show her off whenever possible :) I would like to organize my desk, clean my kitchen, get my carpets cleaned. Rearrange my room (maybe it's my life i want to rearrange?!) Oh it goes on and on and on!!! have a GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE!!! This is Allyson Ayn! (she is in North Carolina, I am in Nevada)... A lot of the things I want to get done revolve around me being able to go see her for the second time ever soooo wish me luck on my tasks ahead! xoxo

How I posted the pic ......... (sm) [2008-10-08]
I WANT to see 'Tornado Alley' desks! hahahahaha! I found posting a pic to be really easy. (The photo will work best if it's in jpg. format). (In order to get these instructions right, I've posted a photo I took in Santa Fe recently.) Assuming you've already taken a pic of your desk, and it's saved in a photo file on your computer, just: 1) After the 'Post Image' box below the subject box of your post on MT Stars, click on 'Click here to Upload Image!' 2) When the next window comes up, click on the 'Browse' button to bring up a list of your computer files. 3) Find your photo (for example, to find mine, I click on Documents, then My Pictures, and then the photo). 4) Click on the photo you've selected, the the name of it will appear in the 'Select Image' box. Click on 'Open'. 5) Click on 'Submit'. 6) The picture will appear, and then click on 'Continue', which should bring you back to the text of your post. Then go ahead and post as usual. Hope that helps. Show us that MESSY DESK! ;D

Bayscribe tips? Anyone? [2008-09-30]
Iimported my MSW AutoCorrect file into Bayscribe but a lot of it will not work. For instance, in MSW I useYO as the expansion for -year-old, but this now will not work after a number nor will YO work after a numberfollowed by ahyphen either. Seems it only will work after a space.Any idea how to design an expansion that will work after a number or hyphen without a space in between? Also, all the capitalizations I built infor headersget reversed to lower case when I follow them with a colon and I have resigned myself to having to re-enter all of those. Any Bayscribe experts who can shed some light?

The department you deal with in Michigan for things like this is called "Friend of the Court". [2008-09-22]
You need to get in touch with your version of this in your state and tell them what is going on and file a form for re-do the visitation agreement. You may even have to see your original divorce attorney. We went through this with my husbandin pro per form. Which basically is a DIY form. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but you need to get started now to get your ducks in a row. Have you thought about talking to somebody at the local VA office in your state or city? Those guys are a wealth of information. Good luck to you.

I would also call the superintendent's office or send a letter. [2008-09-11]
I'm sure you will not be the only one to file a complaint. It has not happened yet, but our school says they will call. That's part of the PTO room parent's job is to break down that list and help call. The list isn't necessarily only in the building.

I personally know 3 people it was wasted on [2008-09-08]
Of the three people I know, one got a criminal justice degree and now sells real estate, another got a business degree and continues to work on a factory line, a third has decided to become a professional student and see how many degrees she can get - but she never intends to work - is 38 and never had a job in her life. I attended one of their certificate ceremonies - she was not receiving a degree, mind you, just getting a 1 year completion ceremony. I was amazed at what they were giving completion certificates for - filing was one of them - who brags they got a certificate in filing and hangs it on their wall? In my day you learned such things with OTJ training, or in high school business classes - its not rocket science to learn to file alphabetically, good grief! I was very sad that those girls had paid to learn it. I question the cirriculum and morals of colleges that have classes like that and give out certificates for them, and can't imagine what an HR person thinks when someone proudly presents it to her across the hiring desk!

Before the post gets buried below regarding credit - very long message sm [2008-08-24]
I just wanted to share with the posters who were considering bankruptcy. Unless you are on the verge of losing your home, I would strongly encourage you to consider another option. Bankruptcy does not just go away after a few years. It Even if you rebuild your credit afterwards, it A friend and my in-laws also filed bankruptcy in the past. My in-laws filed over 20 years ago and have recovered financially but it My husband is a credit card spender. I would only spend when I had the cash and did not depend on credit. It didn Our spending habits combined nearly led to our financial demise a few years back too. This is what I did and I hope you give it a try and it works for you too. I started with a complete inventory of all of our bills, separating them into three categories. Home (mortgage and utilities) Credit cards - (lowest balance to highest balance regardless of the APR) Miscellaneous bills (entertainment, clothing, food, gas, fast food, etc.) Since the Home category is pretty consistent every month, I set up a budget for that first. I went back through our utility bill for the year prior and chose the highest month bill of the year and added that amount to our mortgage amount. Next, I reviewed our telephone, internet, and television (satellite) bills. On average, I was paying about 230.00 per month for them all combined. Way too much in my opinion. I started shopping around and found a bundle package with Verizon. Now I pay 153.00 per month for unlimited long distance telephone, satellite TV, and DSL service. Saved $77.00 per month, just doing that. Then I added this amount to the mortgage and utilities. This totalled amount is what I know I absolutely have to pay every month and I better make sure it's in the account. Next, I did the Miscellaneous. I I started going over what was spent where and learned that we spent a lot more than we really needed to. I set up a weekly grocery budget and a fun budget. If there was anything extra at the end of the week, it was divided evenly between the two and added to the next week. I do this every week until the end of the month. If there is anything left over, that amount is divided in half again and half is divided again and added to the following week's budget (grocery and fun), the other half is locked away in the savings account. The money for monthly gas was a little trickier when the gas prices skyrocketed. I first had a set limit for gas each week but did have to adjust that. I did manage to adjust it a little bit upwards and still be able to pay the cards down (see below.) Also, every time I spend cash, no matter if the amount is $5.01 and all I need is a penny, I don Instead, I will give them $6.00 and get 0.99 change to put in my giant size espresso cup of change. When the cup gets full, the change is rolled and turned in to the bank as a deposit into the savings account. My cup last gave me $281.00 change to put in the savings account. That was in March. It Nobody touches the cup! They might lose a finger or even a hand! That being said, and having two set amounts for each budget, I then subtracted that amount, plus the Household amount from our combined monthly income. Lastly came the dreaded credit cards. To be honest, I was floored when I learned just how much credit card debt we had. My husband had wracked up over $40,000.00 in credit card debt alone. Since he paid his own credit card bills each month, I had no idea. Even worse than that, he is very inconsistent about paying his bills on time so he had late charges and the interest rates were way the heck up there. It was terrible. I took each of his cards most current statements and started from the lowest to highest balance. The lowest one was about 1200.00 but the interest rate on it by that time was 22%. This is where I started. I had him call the company and basically gave him a script to go by (my name wasn He requested a decrease in his APR on each and every card. Two of the five card companies agreed on the first call. The 22% card was reduced to 11% so they cut it in half. Not as low as I would like but it was a start. Another card was up to 31% and they reduced that to 20%. The other three didn't budge the first time. This is where I made two The first one was MS Money software. I highly recommend it. You can set up your checking, savings accounts, print your checks, balance your checkbook in about 5 minutes, pretty much a no brainer software that really keeps you in line with your bills and spending as long as you remember to faithfully enter any debit card purchase in your check register provided with the software. It will also link to many banks to update your balances online. You can also set it up to remind you for upcoming bills. (Maybe if the husband had used this earlier, we would not have been in this situation?) The second purchase was about $8.00. An accordion file folder for the monthly statements. Husband always threw his away and I cana dumb idea that is. KEEP them. Organize the tabs for each bill and put your statement in when you pay each bill. I also write the date and the amount when I make a payment somewhere on the statement, then keep them in chronological order. The actual payments came next. The smallest balance card was paid off first. All of other cards only got the minimum payment PLUS $1 more. I started doing this just for my own peace of mind I guess but I learned later that this actually helped us a bit when negotiating the lower APRs on the three more stubborn cards. It may have only been $1 extra but it was EXTRA payment and, believe it or not, they do look at that. Excluding the card to be paid off first, I added up the minimum payments of the remaining four cards (plus the extra dollar to each of those) and decided on an amount to pay the lowest balance card to get that balance moving toward 0 as fast as I could. In this case, I decided on 200.00. This left me with a little over 200.00 extra (I call it mad money but it really goes into savings anyway -planning ahead for birthdays, auto insurance, Christmas, and emergencies.) I had that card paid off relatively quickly in a few months. When it was paid off, the card was cancelled and that 200.00 was added to the minimum payment (plus $1) on the next lowest balance card. After the first month of this, once again, had the husband call his credit card company and ask for a reduction in his APR. This time it was granted. Should also mention that this card was one of the three that refused the request the first time. The first six months or so of this wasa mildly painful transition. He was used to whipping out a credit card, I was used to having cash on hand for whatever I wanted. It wasn't going to happen anymore. Finally, I wasdown to the last remaining card (754.00 per month payment by this time, having applied the payments for each card to the next as they were paid off.) When I got to this point, I started shopping around for cards with rewards programs and started comparing those cards. The last card I was paying on also had a rewards program but not quite what I wanted. I wanted to know if the terms were negotiable. It was! How about that! So, instead of losing a valuable customer the card company decided to keep me. Now I get 3% back on purchases of most things as long as I pay the balance in full every month (which I do). Any kind of air or rail travel purchased with the card is a 6% reward. I no longer use a debit card. The husband is not allowed to get a credit card again but instead, takes a certain amount of cash every week. Say what you want but he got us into this mess pretty much so he has to live with it now. It I find that I average about 400.00 per month AFTER the rewards bonuses kick in so essentially I am able to bank another $354.00 per month in savings. It adds up quicker than you might think. Should also mention that we have two teens still at home and they can really be expensive. They were made a part of the plan and do their part to help out too. Their contribution is mostly the avoidance of fast food all the time. They can come home and have a meal or eat before they leave. Things like that. Sorry for the lengthy post but hopefully I can help anyone else get out of a potentially bad financial situation like we faced.

I agree with you. Too many people.. [2008-08-22]
want all the goodies now and when they are in too deep think they can just file bankruptcy and presto, all is right with their world again. I can fully understand filing because of a medical hardship, but too many people live well above their means, charge everything, never save or plan for tomorrow and then want you and I to pick up the slack because they are irresponsible with their finances. And yes, been there, done that, many, many years ago and learned my lesson, so don't bother telling me not to judge others.

Before considering the CCCS or debt relief (sm) [2008-08-22]
places, first call the companies. A lot has changed in 5 years -- [2008-08-21]
I don One of them filed several years ago and I think a lot has changed since then. I don It's also harder if you have assets to file bankruptcy, so you might want to look into it a little better. On ananother note, it I I think people should be more responsible for their actions. Too many people live for the moment and let the rest of us pay for it.

Tech/video question [2008-07-31]
I have been trying to open a video of a speech my nephew gave and cannot get my computer to open it. It asks what program to open it with (or if want to do a Internet search), and I have tried both. The Internet thing didn't come up with anything I found useful, and my own computer only has Windows Media Player, which did not work. My sister says it works on hers ... it does not even ask what to open; simply opens and plays. She cannot tell what program it is using. The file says it's a MP-4 auto file if that helps. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I too have sent emails to wrong people, then have to contact people and tell them. It's a horrible feeling. If you ever have any question about an email you sent you could always look at your sent file. I have to do that often.

I do understand. [2008-07-01]
I understand that you were trying to avoid litigation on this matter, but the bottom line is either you avoid it or you don There is no in-between. Did the hospital file your daughter If so, what would you do with the $800 that the dog owner would give you? I don He has 2 dogs - family dogs, mind you - a golden retriever and a lab, both on the small side. He had friends over and his friend The dog got excited and jumped up on the child (who was about 7 years old), catching his claw on the child It tore the skin, but nothing severe enough to require stitches or anything. My brother He even called from the hospital telling my brother about the treatment his child would need. My brother was very empathetic and concerned over the child Then the friend told him he would be getting the bill. My brother did get the bill, but when he contacted the hospital to pay it, the hospital told him it was already paid by the insurance company. My brother then contacted his friend, who said he could just make the check out to him and he would see to it that it got to the insurance. Yeah, right. People in this world are always looking for a way to get something for nothing. I hope that In any event, I hope your daughter heals without scars, emotionally or physically. I have a feeling if you take this to court, your daughter will be reliving this nightmare for a long time to come. I would be more concerned about getting the dog impounded than I would be about lining your pockets.

Identity theft -- never thought it could [2008-06-26]
Yesterday, I got a call from QVC. I had ordered a GPS system for my hubby and QVC called to say they were unable to complete processing of my order because my credit card wouldn QVC said the address I gave them as the billing address did not match the billing address of my credit card. I asked the rep to hold on while I pulled my credit card account up on line. When I did, I saw that my address and phone number had been changed to somewhere in TX (I live in PA). I told QVC I would have to call them back. I immediately called the credit card company. They pulled up my account and said that yes my address had been changed just a few days ago. When I asked how, they couldn They did not know if it was done on-line or by telephone. This, I don If someone called in to change it, shouldn Furthermore, if it was changed on-line, wouldn At any rate, it was changed, and my cc company tried to contact me to verify it by calling the new phone number given. (Makes no sense). Having received no answer, they sent a letter to me, which I have yet to get. One day after changing my address, someone made a $10 on-line purchase with cc account, which went through. Immediately following that, a $4500 on-line purchase was attempted to be put through. This one the cc company did not allow (thank God for small miracles). After having all of this explained to me, I was then transferred to an Identity Theft Specialist, who would help me close this account and reopen another one as well as put into action security alerts for me. For the next 7 years, my credit report will be flagged as a fraud alert, meaning that if anyone tries to open a new account in my name, the lender will have go through extensive verification to confirm it I I also had to file a report with my local police, which I doubt will accomplish anything. Local police are not trained in the same manner as state police, and I don We will see. I did, however, write down the address and the phone number that my account was changed to. My husband called the number last night from his cell phone and no one answered. He left a message stating he was looking for my name and to please return his call to his number. They immediately called back, but when my husband answered, they said nothing. They called back again later that night and did the same thing. Here I told her that apparently I was a victim of identity theft. She said that I said what do you mean and she proceeds to tell me that there have been a lot of account takeovers with this particular company and that it was determined to be an inside job. This left me feeling less than secure about setting up a new account with that company. It also makes me wonder if that My husband says as soon as the new account is set up, we Fortunately, this cc company has 0% identity theft liability, so we will not be responsible for the charges that did go through. However, the bigger concern here is that this person obviously has enough personal information about me to set up new accounts without my knowledge; hence, the reason for the fraud alerts on my credit report. I am so furious, if I ever get my hands on this person, I My husband and I have worked hard all our lives to have good credit and some skuzbucket thinks he can just come along and take it. I don I intend to pursue this fully. If it is an inside job, I will make sure that this credit card company does something about its current employee background checks. So, take a minute today and call your credit companies or go on-line and check to make sure that noone has changed your address and phone number.

Money for Your Diamonds from DeBeers [2008-05-16]
I am sitting here getting ready to fill out my claim form. I tried to fill it out online but I think something may be wrong with their website because it kept telling me my browser would not accept cookies and it does. Anyway go to www.diamondsclassaction.com to file a claim if you purchased diamonds betweeen 1/94 and 3/06. You could get a refund. Just thought I would pass the word. You only have until 5/19 to file though.

I personally would send a check for the reason you stated. SM [2008-05-13]
Also if you are paying off debt, you can always call and let them know you will be paying it off and see if they are willing to negotiate a lower settlement offer rather than the full balance. Learned that from Suze Orman. Also, if it happens to already be negative on your credit, you can negotiate that the remove it from your credit file if you agree to pay in full.
