The bedroom is still quite cold at night depending on the temperature outsidewhen you close the door. Hubby never cared because as a child, his room didnused to it, but now that he's older, he's getting to be a little bit too much to handle.
He tried a gas wall heater but it used to much fuel. We tried an Eden Pure, but it died before the winter was over.
He only needs the room around 60 so he cut a hole in the wall above the door and put a fan in to draw the heat into his room but the fan is so noisy, it's hard to get a good night's sleep.

Wrinkle cream that actually works? [2008-09-16]
My mom is turning 51 this year and she has said she would like a wrinkle cream that actually works.
Does anyone have any experience or heard good things about a wrinkle cream. She has tried IQ Derma and I think likes it okay, but hasn Obviously she also, there are so many out there that claim to reduce fine lines is it possible to do that really without any kind of surgery?
Thanks for any help or recommendation!

I understand Clomid works [2008-08-08]
For a lot of people it does work. I, unfortunately, was one of the unlucky ones. 20+ years ago while being a young Army wife my DH and I tried everything to have a baby. I was seeing a german doc who was one of the best fertility specialists in our area of Germany. Ibaby making meds and counseled to be prepared for at least triplets. DH was on medication to increase sperm count. I took special mud baths each month, used the basal temperature method, and we also constructed what looked like a jungle gym that I would hang on upside in the bedroom after we had sex. After returning to the states I had all the procedures done to make sure my tubes and ovaries were okay, and I was on Clomid. My OB doc even had it timed down to what day each month was the best for getting pregnant and the day before she would prepare me for the next days adventures. She was also one of the best docs in the area for fertility. Here it is 26 years later and I never did get pregnant. My sis also was never able to get pregnant, so we believe it was probably something hereditary. She adopted and 19 years later after hearing her trials and tribulations of life with her child I realize now that not having children was the best choice for me. Incidently, 8 years ago I did become pregnant but it was ectopic and I had an ovary and tube removed.
My advise is if you really want kids don't give up. Do everything you can think of - even if it means constructing a jungle gym in your bedroom - can be lots of fun - :-). It's usually the craziest things that will work. I did have a friend I worked with for some time and she wanted a child so bad she did everything and for years nothing worked. When she finally relaxed and told me if it works it works and if it doesn't it doesn't - two months later she became pregnant. I wish you the best of luck. I know how disappointing it can be. I spent every month for 20 years in tears so know how heart breaking it can be.
AWOL....not the best choice but...it works [2008-08-05]
My youngest child decided that she wanted to enlist in the Army to help take care of me, her younger brother and my ailing mom. Well, she would call home and mom not tell her exactly how bad things had gotten for us: my sisters and brothers had basically stopped helping me take care of my bedbound mom who I was forced to take care of alone. Now, I love my mom but she had a couple of conditions that were sure not going to get any better and I had a 2 year old at home and blessed with the opportunity to work from home. While on one of her visits, she accompanied us to the oncologist, and it was a really bad visit. I eventually persuaded her to go back and she started trying to get out due to the family hardship and was turned down. I tried to be strong during this difficult time but my 2 other daughters were forced to move back home to help me with mom because we could not put her in a NH. Well, needless to say, she came home on a pass and did not go back....Well approximately 4 months later she received paperwork that she would receive a hardship discharge due to the family problems. We regret it, but mentally it has strengthened us alot. The mother may have filed for a discharge due to medical problems and that was not noted in the report....All avenues are not the best ones, but there are ways to make things happen for you. Oh, I regret the route that she took, but I was glad to have her home with me.

I did the same. It only took one summer (last year) of doing this and then we slowly tapered off the chore chart. I would forget to print it off the computer from time to time. Since then I no longer have to ask but when I do it is already done, just had to get in the habit of doing it without question, I think. My child is like OPs that he really is a great kid but for some reason brushing teeth was a nightmare twice a day every day. The only difference in our allowance chart was that for each item completed (without being asked or questioned) my child would get 25 cents - totaled at the end of the week. He still had to do everything, it was just a matter of initiative and no arguments on his part. I think max would be $5 a week or something like that. I had it calculated out so I new there was a limit. Truth be told, he asked for more than $5 of stuff every time we went to the store (and that was another fight) so this did double-duty in that if we went to the store he had to use his own money. Amazing how picky kids get when its their money.

Am I the Wicked Step-Mother? [2008-12-02]
I know I don't post here much but I do read and feel you are all friends. I offer prayers for those that request them and feel for those with troubles.
I would like to know what you think about my latest dilemma. I came home from town today to find a phone call from my step-daughter, age 43. She has my cell phone number but for some reason she wonno this time and now I feel terrible. She started out by saying she had a medical bill to pay and then turned it around to a DUI fine that has to be paid by Jan. 1. She got picked up in August for a tail light out and had been drinking with co-workers. Her story. I was advised by the court not to help her so that was part of the reason I said no. She works two part-time waitressing jobs. She's divorced and no kids. She said she would pay me back $100 a month. If that is true why couldn't she have saved $100 a month and had the money to pay the fine? She called me a few weeks ago and I know she wanted money then but she didn't come right out and ask until today.
Thanks for listening, I appreciate it.

I love the post office. For 42 cents, they will take my card or letter all the way across the US, to Alaska or Hawaii! I think it's the greatest bargain going. (And, no, I don't know anyone who works for the post office.)
Secondly, I would NEVER give up my land line on my telephone. Try dealing with a few conversations getting choppy and incomprehensible on a cell. Cell phones have their place, but their quality is pretty poor compared to that line stretched on the poles.
Unless things have changed [2008-11-30]
As far as I know, you have to have a converter box, if you don't have a HDTV TV. You can't use a DVD or VCR player for a converter. Maybe what they meant, is if you need a converter box, and don't have one, the only way you can watch your TV, is using a DVD or VCR player, playing the DVD discs, or VCR tapes.
I have bought 5 converter boxes, ending up taking two back. First one I got was a Magnovox, and I didnt' like it. My antennas wouldn't fit it.
I took it back and exchanged it for a RCA one. I couldn't get my money back, with the coupon, so, had to exchange it, and am stuck with the RCA one. It works OK. Not great.
Then I reviewed and found the TiVax was recommended. I got it. I liked it, till I got a DVT Pal today. It is better than any of them i have tried. I traded a Zenith for it, didnt' like the Zenith. My antennas wouldn't fit it, either. So I took the Zenith back, got the DVT Pal.
The Pal is the only one , so far, that I have gotten 4 stations. The others I have only gotten 2. With the ZEnith, I got none. I think I'll stay with the DVT Pal. I have one more coupon left.
Same problem here. [2008-11-30]
My husband works with loud machines and we both have noticed his hearing is going. I actually thinks he likes it because when I ask him to do something and it doesnI didn. Very frustrating for me.
My husband also expects big presents for Christmas, birthday, etc, wrapped up all nice and pretty. Last year, he received a big gift and I received nothing from him. He says I'm hard to buy for so he won't do it. Or else on Christmas Eve, he will say he's going shopping what should he get me. He always takes the fun out of any gift-giving occasion. This year, I told him we are not exchanging and that means BOTH of us will do without. We'll see how he likes it.

If so, put her in her cage when she gets too rambunctious (sp?). Our new puppy is also about 8 or 9 months old, and she knows the meaning of NO and STOP BITING.

You definitely have the right idea [2008-11-25]
As long as it's done in moderation I don't see anything wrong with it. It definitely sounds like you have a system that works for you and your family. I guess I'm lucky in that I have daughters, the youngest one is pretty young for video systems, although she does have an educational V-Smile system, and the older one (14) has a Play Station 2 that got old really fast as she got older (we've had it for quite a few years). Now she's into all the girly stuff and has never wanted any of the other systems.
We almost got a Wii this Christmas for the whole family but decided against it because of the cost. Our friends have one and it really looks like a lot of fun.
gettin along [2008-11-25]
Sorry your holiday is getting complicated. I am 100% estranged from my family of origin for a long time now. I don't stand up for myself with my husband's family because he is afraid I am too much of a bridge burner. So at his request, I have always kept my mouth shut, not to him, but to them. It has got to be the hardest thing I have ever done.
People get divorced and expect no one to have trouble adjusting. That has always amazed me, and it never works out that way.
good luck to you this year with your new arrangements.
To Kaydie: this is what I read: [2008-11-24]
Reader's Digest, Oct, 2008, says the cells pile up too quickly and skin can't shed properly.
Improved drugs may be the answer for many of 7.5 million people with psoriasis whose red lesions won't fade with current treatments.
Stronger Rx An injectable drug called ustekinamab could gain approval as early as this fall. It dampens the immune response which in psoriasis patients is overstimulated, causing inflammation and a buildup of skin cells that form plaques, says Abby Van Voorhees, MD, of the Psoriasis and Phototherapy Treatment Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
New OTC The cream Psorent is based on an old compound called LCD made from coal tar, but does not leave the stains on the skin or the odor that LCD does. We says Harvard dermatologist Alexa Kimball, MD.
natural method Many patients say stress causes flare-ups. Mindful meditation with other therapies allows my patients to be more tranquil says Dr. Van Voorhees.

I was given an Rx for Carmol 40, but it is really expensive, $50 with the co-pay, but it really helped with my elbows although they did not think it was psoriasis.

Has our country taken a turn for the ... [2008-11-21]
Our once great country, I afraid, has just turned a corner for the worse. I have watched as the mentality of our country has gone from setting your mind to something, working hard, and you can accomplish it to giving up, sitting back, and letting somebody else take care of them.
I was brought up, as many were, with a good work ethic that was instilled in us by our parents. With the idea that if you want something you had to work for it, and by working for something you learned quickly the difference between wants and needs.
There were always incentives for a person to strive to better themselves. Whether it were financial incentives, or just the pride you gained in knowing that you did something yourself, it didn’t matter.
I wasn’t long ago that people had that “small town” mentality, and everybody knew their neighbors. And those neighbors helped each other out, in any situation, it was just what you did. And people were so proud that some times help would have to be disguised, you remember the lines like..”Mom made more stew than we could eat, could you help us out by taking it so that it doesn’t go to waste?”
But, somewhere along the line those thoughts of some (I guess now the majority) have changed. Some how, if somebody works hard to gain something others feel entitled to have the same things, even if they didn’t have to go through the struggle to earn it. Some how, things like big screen TVs, cell phones, and shiny new cars have wrongly slipped from the “wants” list to the “needs” list.
Somewhere the incentives to strive for betterment have been replaced by incentives to be lazy. The easy way out and hand outs are now the norm. The feeling of pride about being self sufficient is supposed to be replaced by guilt for having more than others.
The “small town” mentality is gone and our neighbors have turned into strangers. People no longer help out their neighbors or even themselves, instead they sit and wait for the government to come solve things for them. And when help does come they complain that the help wasn’t good enough or didn’t come fast enough, the pride is gone.
Well, I refuse to think that way, my small town roots and work ethic runs to deep. I refuse to let somebody take care of me while I am willing and able to take care of myself. I will continue to meet and know my neighbors and help them out when they need it. I will continue to work hard to take care of my needs and by doing so, my wants will take care of themselves. I will continue to volunteer for things and give to charities of my choice regardless of what the government wants to take away from me and give to the undeserving.
My hope is to change the thinking back to the way it was. The sun will rise again tomorrow, I’ll keep doing what I do, and this country can be great again….at least in my little corner of it…
I've been there [2008-11-20]
I have been in your shoes. Last year my husband died unexpectedly at age 56, I literally woke up one morning and he was dead in our bed next to me (aneurysm). That started a downhill spiral . . . . since then I I canhow depressed III am working now and starting to pull myself up out of the dark hole I've been in.
The poster above is right. You need to see a doctor. I found out that most major health systems have programs for those of us with no insurance and no money. Call their financial offices and just tell them point blank you need to be seen and you have no insurance. They will not refuse you. I found a clinic near my house that is part of a largehospital. I was able to see a doctor for a physicalandget my annual Pap and mammogram done at no charge. They gave me samples of my medications (I have asthma) for a few months until I had insurance again. They prescribed an antidepressant which worked wonders and they gave me that as samples each month.

It's just DH, 18 year-old son, and I. We live in the Philadelphia area. We generally eat far less meat than most American families, but we aren't vegetarian. My son commutes to a nearby university and works there, as well. He provides his own lunches, and probably only eats breakfast at home half of the time.
Now, if you want to factor in what we pay for the meal plan for our son who lives away at college, well then... that's a whole other story! KA-CHING!

had just read an article in the August Reader's Digest about a man being treated for throat cancer, stage IV. The name is The Farther Shore by Stephen Reynolds, in his 40's. There is an insert in the article that might interest you.
HPV and You
While few people with HPV get oral cancer, the number is likely to keep rising, says Maura Gillison, M.D., of Johns Hopkins. 20 million Americans are infected, with 6.2 million new cases each year. So far, there is no cure and just one test and only to detect HPV in a woman's cervix. Only a biopsy can tell whether an oral cancer is linked to HPV, but a test to spot high-risk oral infection in men and women and a vaccine for men are both in the works. What you need to know:
Most people with HPV infections don't have any symptoms. At least half of sexually active men and women may become infected in their lifetimes. About 23% of women ages 14 to 65 have high-risk HPV, including 35% of 14 to 19 year old girls.
Gardasil protects against up to 70% of the HPV types that cause cervical cancer, but it is unknown if the vaccine protects against oral infection in men or women.
While most infections clear up on their own without patients ever knowing they were exposed, the consequences can still be severe. For instance, one type of HPV raises the risk of oral cancer of 3,200 percent.
The virus speads through any form of sexual activity, and condoms can't fully protect against it. Having more than 5 oral sex partners boosts the risks of HPV linked oral cancer by 340 percent.
Sorry this was so long, but this is the most info I have seen on this and the numbers are, I think, staggering. I notice it does not address the vaccine in Australia you mentioned.
People love my bread stuffing sm [2008-11-11]
I use Pepperidge Farm seasoned bread stuffing, donare out there, this is put out by a bread company. Theninstead of water, use orange juice. I once tried chicken broth but too greasy. I add freshly chopped onions, celery and sometimes raisins and small amt. of chopped cranberries. I never stuff the turkey but bake it separately in a casserole. If it looks too dry, I may add a teaspoon or moreof the final turkey drippings just over the top. This is one time I use butter. I have tried rubbing the bird with mayonnaise and that works well. Like to experiment but always the turkey comes out just fine at 20 minutes per lb. and use a thermometer. They always ask for more stuffing.
