It doesn't sound dumb... [2008-11-16]
...at all. I miss my Noni girl every single day. She was the light of my life, my soulmate who happened to be a different species. I have gotten 2 new dogs, but my heart will never feel the same.

Okay, this is going to sound like a dumb question - [2008-09-19]
but what are Crocs? I just started having this heel pain about a week ago. It's been hard to bear weight, and I'm limping badly after doing the grocery shopping. Same thing - my pedal foot. I even had it on an ice pack while I was working a few days ago! I've been transcribing for nineteen years, and it just started. Are crocs and orthosis?

The lyrics to a song by Nashville's Cornbread Mafia. I do not like country music, but they are right on the money.
http://www.burtonharvey.com/cornbreadmafia/
He acts real dumb but the act isn't fooling me
He gets things done to destroy our sovereignty
He's a servant of the globalists from foreign lands
Our leader is a traitor with blood on his hands
Traitor...Dare call it treason
Traitor...Dare call it treason
Some see a failure; I see a big success
Using our terror to undermine the whole U.S.
When the towers came down, and everybody froze
Bush and Giuliani came up smelling like a rose
Traitor...Dare call it treason
Traitor...Dare call it treason
It's election time again, and everybody's ready to vote
If both candidates are owned, brother tell me where is the hope?
Hillary and Huckabee are waiting there in line
I guess we'll get a Democrat traitor this time
Traitor...Dare call it treason
Traitor...Dare call it treason
They want a fascist planet with the superwealthy ruling it all
Since we're too independent, America must be led to fall
When our credit's been exhausted to subdue the Middle East,
They'll install our debtor nation in the body of The Beast
Traitor...Dare call it treason
Traitor...Dare call it treason
This song is almost over, but I have one thing further to say
I'll ask you for a favor when the agents come to take me away
Disseminate this anthem over cyberspace,
And shout this accusation in every bought-off leader's face:
Traitor...Dare call it treason
Traitor...Dare call it treason

I have what probably is a dumb question (sm) [2007-04-29]
We live in a not so great house on a piece of land on the water that has been going up in value. The appraisal value of the house is $65,000, market value $250,000 with the land. People are always looking to buy property out here. My question is, when we do decide to sell, what would we probably get? Or even ask for? Chances are they would tear the house down anyway and build a new one.

But, this has been a recurrent problem lately. That's why he specifically asked her about it. We were invited to dinner a couple weeks ago and she bought 2 medium pizzas for 9 people, 3 of which are teenagers. I am not a big eater by any means but I came home and made dinner. This Is So True [2008-11-15]
When I took an IQ test and scored 166, I thought it was a huge mistake.I struggled in school, which I believe is because I was bored. I am very good with technical things (computers and such), but I learn by doing not by reading. ThereI have had depression my whole adult life, but Iwrote about those with higher IQsare just like me. I always thought I was dumb because I did not get As or Bs in school and could not retainmost of whatI read. Of course, like I said, ADD plays a big role in that.
Thanks for your post. Made me realize some things that I hadn Only my husband knows my IQ score...I don't want my friends or other family members to know (I don't think they would believe it).
Blondie, have read your posts before sm.. [2008-11-15]
You sound like a very good person, very caring. I was in the same situation once with a neighbor's dog. He would go to Canada hunting and just leave his dog tied to a dog house in mid-winter in New England and I would take her into my home, feed her, keep her warm and all. This neighbor today I can say with full confidence was borderline-retarded without a doubt. I am so glad I did this. I even at one time went to the dog pound and claimed this dog who had gotten loose and said it was my own. I could not let this poor dog suffer because of its owner. All I can say is do what is in your heart, it may cost you a few dollars more but think of it is abandoned children and you are there for them. Take a good look at this guy and truly ask yourself is he is capable of the love and caring you have in your heart. I know times are tough, but perhaps you are the one who is meant to save these poor animals. Sounds like this guy is either not the sharpest tool in the shed or something else wrong with him. Does he have enough money for beer or etc., and not his dogs? Then he doesn't deserve them! Think hard about the dogs and what would happen to them if it were not for you. You are a very nice person. I hope you find an answer. As for your husband, only you can answer that question. I think he should at least stick up for you and address his dumb friend as to what his responsibility is in the situation. Good luck, Blondie, you are a sweetheart to put up with all this, and I am sure the dogs are in a better place with you. Do you have an SPCA or someone who could help with the food? Perhaps online you can find a way to make your own food suitable for dogs at a reasonable price. May God be with you. Perhaps you are meant to care for dogs in some way that would be beneficial to you in other ways. God bless you for caring.
Explaining a couple of things sm [2008-11-14]
I studied IQ as part of my Masterget you because your sense of humor is probably well off the beaten track. You probably lack social skills from an early age. Your peers would play childhood games while you preferred to try to improve upon the toys they played with. In school, you didn't have to work very hard in most areas. It all came very easily. You didn't learn how to learn, which is a very valuable skill. You probably have a low frustration level and when something doesn't come very easily, you are prone to giving up. Because you see the world in completely different terms than people of more average intelligence, those same average people call you crazy or mentally ill and tell you that you should be locked up. You don't fit in and despite the higher intelligence, you are remiss to know how to accomplish the feat of being more ordinary.
I alluded to this in my previous post. I have the unusual combination of being very artistic, creatively gifted AND being rather intellectually gifted. Yes, I did fall at the 99.6% percentile on the Wechsler. I know what it means and I have a firm understanding that indeed, that score suggests that I possess more intelligence than 99.6% of the people who have taken that test, and only 0.4% are smarter than I am. It has been a life-long struggle to fit in. I am too cerebral for artistic people, and too artistic for intellectuals. I literally have no one I fit in with. I have learned to tone myself down to make it work. I didn't say dumb down, I said tone down. That means I don't intentionally talk over the heads of others and I won't cram what I know down anyone's throat.
I have had those people in my life who have been jealous of me. I learn quickly if it is artistic, musical, creative, the written word, history and philosophy. I struggle with math. I took piano lessons 10 years ago. I had 40 of them and had never played the piano before. In 40, 1-hour lessons I could play the Moonlight Sonata in piano solo (not a dumbed down easy version). Most people cannot do that. There many other things I have done in a similar fashion, but this is an example for you.
You ask why I am an MT if I am so smart. I make very good money as an MT and I enjoy the challenge. My photographic memory comes in very handy too. I often stop and read up on a disease process I am transcribing about, so that I know what it means. Show me a word once and I'll know it forever. It makes my job easier for me to accomplish.
This all sounds like I am blowing my own horn, but I am merely trying to explain. Being highly intelligent wonreally smart is not only not helpful, I think it is the root of the housecleaning issues in my life.
In short, it is just great to have a good ol' high number and in the end it makes absolutely difference...if you don't count the fact that people with IQs over 150 are 3 times more likely to be depressed and commit suicide than the average population. People who are 125 to 140 are the most fortunate. They succeed in greater numbers in school, in a job, in life. They are very bright, and likely have learned how to learn. They are more likely to persevere in the face of frustration and challenge.
It really isn't all you think it is.

It sounds to me that maybe his brother feels inferior to your DH.
2. When told he should be prepared if he gets drafted he said oh no they wouldnThere is no draft anymore. Nobody is automaticaly an officer just because they work for a prestigious company. (Another way the brother sounds quite inferior to your husband).

I think you husband's family is just jealous of you guys and what you've accomplished in your lives and his brother is trying to get your husband down to his level.
Who needs them [2008-10-28]
Yesterday I was saddened beyond words. Who needs enemies with family like this. DH was talking to his half brother (15 years younger than DH) and these are some of the statements brother made to him. First let mesayhis brother is from a second marriage. MIL hates to acknowledge her3 kids from her first marrage. She has always felt they are inferior to her youngest. They live in a different state so we don So here is what his little punk half brother said to him. Even though it is brought on by political talk, this is more of a family issue post so didncomments (whichwere spoken with fake southern accent).
1. I'm not dumb, I went to a University (husband went to state colleges).
2. When told he should be prepared if he gets drafted he said oh no they wouldn't draft me, I work for a prestigious company and I went to a University and if I was drafted I would automatically be an officer, I wouldn't have to do all the other stuff the uneducated ones do.
3. Why do you live in that state you do? Only bumpkins live there.
4. Why do you keep moving? Have you done something illegal and are trying to hide? (Weve been at the same address for 2 years.
5. You should be happy is O gets in, you When DH said what in the world makes you think I donyou do? (I think it's odd that he didn't even ask DH what he does).
6. You know your just stup!d because you voted for GW. When DH said to him what makes you think we voted for him? He just said you didn We all thought you voted for him. DH said, no I didn
7. He made a comment about there might be a bloody war coming in the middle east and then said Oh I. DH said well no, why would you say that. Then the little *(% changes the subject.
In the past we have been told that only the stup!d uneducated people go into the military (we were both in the military - me for 3 years and DH for 12 years. Husband also has an IQ of around 129, but he has always been told he is inferior (not in those exact words) because he didnUniversity. DH told him I wanted to go to this place or that and if mommy daddy could pay the way for me too I would have been able to go(not in those exact terms) and then his brother got upset and was trying to say DH was saying he was stup!d. Then his mom got in on it and told DH he's picking on him and jealous, etc.
I just canhis own brother could say such hurtful things. I could understand if its someone you donItthat he He said their true colors really came out. And if you want to talk about intelligence DH will bring up subjects like what All he wants to talk about is sports (which DH hates sports) or who the Survivor or American Idol winner is.
It is just really sad to be treated like your nothing by your own family. We have decided we will not be answering the phone from now on if he calls and just not talking to him for a long long time and let him think about what he did. Me particularly, I don Just very very sad.

Something is amiss with husband [2008-10-06]
Been married over 10 years. Over the past year he has changed. He is in his mid 40s, active, excellent health. In the past year I would say that about 90% of the time he just does not listen to me. I end up repeating thoughts/sentences up to 3 times within about a 4 minute time span and then I say I I Then he gets angry and is already quite aggressive and bullying at his baseline. Other women laugh and say, well, that But this is quite serious as sometimes it has major consequences like he doesn He is disrespectful in other ways too. My question is, WHAT can I possibly do to make him start listening. I have thought of just not talking at all for about 3 days but that is impossible in a busy household. I have tried saying from now on I am only to tell you things once and that Doesn Please help -- any suggestions?

While forgiveness is divine, forgetting is just plain dumb. I would not let this incident go by without discussing it with the mother of the daughter as well as the teacher and the school principal. Personal space or not, that girl had no right to put her hands on your son. She was not defending herself. She was not in harms If she gets away with this now, it will only continue. In public school, this kind of thing would be handled by suspension of the girl. Boy or girl, big or small, every child has the right to feel safe in school. That See to it that this private school enforces it. Only you can make them accountable.
I realize how angry you must be right now, but hopefully by posting this and sleeping on it tonight, you
Cheating spouse/boyfriend, etc. [2008-09-18]
Many years ago I was married to a cheating spouse. I was pregnant with our second child when he took it upon himself to cheat with an underage girl in the back of our brand new station wagon. Well, I learned about this when a paternity suit came up with his name on it. Apparently he was so dumb that he did not know the girl had a boyfriend and being the sucker that he was he did not know that they would pin the paternity on him, and get money from him. Too bad it wasn't in this day and time because he would have been in jail because she was only 17, and he was in his 30s. This was only 1 in a string of women that I found out after the fact, and even contracted an STD when I was pregnant!! I also suffered spousal abuse, and have the scars to prove it. After 5 years of this I got out,and the only reason I stayed was for the children, but that was a huge mistake on my part. Now, whenever, I hear or see this on a program it makes me furious that these men think this behavior is okay. It is never okay and leaves many people, including children, to suffer much heartache.
stay vs go [2008-09-11]
First, I am so sorry for your situation...that being said, the kids will definitely pick up on the negative vibes between you and your husband. As far as your question goes, I think only you and your husband can know the answer to that one. Just be very aware of your kids and behavior changes, emotional lability, etc. Trust me when I say, they are not dumb...they will pick up on what's going on, no matter how hard you try to hide it (yes, I'm speaking from experience...). Good luck!
How the heck [2008-09-03]
Call me dumb but I have to ask before I try this. You put the dandruff shampoo on your face? and is this a 3-step process, rinsing between, or you put it all on together? How often do you do this once a week, a month?
Before the post gets buried below regarding credit - very long message sm [2008-08-24]
I just wanted to share with the posters who were considering bankruptcy.
Unless you are on the verge of losing your home, I would strongly encourage you to consider another option. Bankruptcy does not just go away after a few years. It Even if you rebuild your credit afterwards, it A friend and my in-laws also filed bankruptcy in the past.
My in-laws filed over 20 years ago and have recovered financially but it
My husband is a credit card spender. I would only spend when I had the cash and did not depend on credit. It didn Our spending habits combined nearly led to our financial demise a few years back too.
This is what I did and I hope you give it a try and it works for you too.
I started with a complete inventory of all of our bills, separating them into three categories.
Home (mortgage and utilities)
Credit cards - (lowest balance to highest balance regardless of the APR)
Miscellaneous bills (entertainment, clothing, food, gas, fast food, etc.)
Since the Home category is pretty consistent every month, I set up a budget for that first. I went back through our utility bill for the year prior and chose the highest month bill of the year and added that amount to our mortgage amount.
Next, I reviewed our telephone, internet, and television (satellite) bills. On average, I was paying about 230.00 per month for them all combined. Way too much in my opinion. I started shopping around and found a bundle package with Verizon. Now I pay 153.00 per month for unlimited long distance telephone, satellite TV, and DSL service. Saved $77.00 per month, just doing that.
Then I added this amount to the mortgage and utilities. This totalled amount is what I know I absolutely have to pay every month and I better make sure it's in the account.
Next, I did the Miscellaneous. I I started going over what was spent where and learned that we spent a lot more than we really needed to. I set up a weekly grocery budget and a fun budget. If there was anything extra at the end of the week, it was divided evenly between the two and added to the next week. I do this every week until the end of the month. If there is anything left over, that amount is divided in half again and half is divided again and added to the following week's budget (grocery and fun), the other half is locked away in the savings account.
The money for monthly gas was a little trickier when the gas prices skyrocketed. I first had a set limit for gas each week but did have to adjust that. I did manage to adjust it a little bit upwards and still be able to pay the cards down (see below.)
Also, every time I spend cash, no matter if the amount is $5.01 and all I need is a penny, I don Instead, I will give them $6.00 and get 0.99 change to put in my giant size espresso cup of change. When the cup gets full, the change is rolled and turned in to the bank as a deposit into the savings account. My cup last gave me $281.00 change to put in the savings account. That was in March. It Nobody touches the cup! They might lose a finger or even a hand!
That being said, and having two set amounts for each budget, I then subtracted that amount, plus the Household amount from our combined monthly income.
Lastly came the dreaded credit cards. To be honest, I was floored when I learned just how much credit card debt we had. My husband had wracked up over $40,000.00 in credit card debt alone. Since he paid his own credit card bills each month, I had no idea. Even worse than that, he is very inconsistent about paying his bills on time so he had late charges and the interest rates were way the heck up there. It was terrible.
I took each of his cards most current statements and started from the lowest to highest balance. The lowest one was about 1200.00 but the interest rate on it by that time was 22%. This is where I started.
I had him call the company and basically gave him a script to go by (my name wasn He requested a decrease in his APR on each and every card. Two of the five card companies agreed on the first call. The 22% card was reduced to 11% so they cut it in half. Not as low as I would like but it was a start. Another card was up to 31% and they reduced that to 20%. The other three didn't budge the first time.
This is where I made two The first one was MS Money software. I highly recommend it. You can set up your checking, savings accounts, print your checks, balance your checkbook in about 5 minutes, pretty much a no brainer software that really keeps you in line with your bills and spending as long as you remember to faithfully enter any debit card purchase in your check register provided with the software. It will also link to many banks to update your balances online. You can also set it up to remind you for upcoming bills. (Maybe if the husband had used this earlier, we would not have been in this situation?)
The second purchase was about $8.00. An accordion file folder for the monthly statements. Husband always threw his away and I cana dumb idea that is. KEEP them. Organize the tabs for each bill and put your statement in when you pay each bill. I also write the date and the amount when I make a payment somewhere on the statement, then keep them in chronological order.
The actual payments came next. The smallest balance card was paid off first. All of other cards only got the minimum payment PLUS $1 more. I started doing this just for my own peace of mind I guess but I learned later that this actually helped us a bit when negotiating the lower APRs on the three more stubborn cards. It may have only been $1 extra but it was EXTRA payment and, believe it or not, they do look at that.
Excluding the card to be paid off first, I added up the minimum payments of the remaining four cards (plus the extra dollar to each of those) and decided on an amount to pay the lowest balance card to get that balance moving toward 0 as fast as I could.
In this case, I decided on 200.00. This left me with a little over 200.00 extra (I call it mad money but it really goes into savings anyway -planning ahead for birthdays, auto insurance, Christmas, and emergencies.)
I had that card paid off relatively quickly in a few months. When it was paid off, the card was cancelled and that 200.00 was added to the minimum payment (plus $1) on the next lowest balance card. After the first month of this, once again, had the husband call his credit card company and ask for a reduction in his APR. This time it was granted. Should also mention that this card was one of the three that refused the request the first time.
The first six months or so of this wasa mildly painful transition. He was used to whipping out a credit card, I was used to having cash on hand for whatever I wanted. It wasn't going to happen anymore.
Finally, I wasdown to the last remaining card (754.00 per month payment by this time, having applied the payments for each card to the next as they were paid off.)
When I got to this point, I started shopping around for cards with rewards programs and started comparing those cards. The last card I was paying on also had a rewards program but not quite what I wanted. I wanted to know if the terms were negotiable. It was! How about that!
So, instead of losing a valuable customer the card company decided to keep me.
Now I get 3% back on purchases of most things as long as I pay the balance in full every month (which I do). Any kind of air or rail travel purchased with the card is a 6% reward.
I no longer use a debit card. The husband is not allowed to get a credit card again but instead, takes a certain amount of cash every week. Say what you want but he got us into this mess pretty much so he has to live with it now.
It I find that I average about 400.00 per month AFTER the rewards bonuses kick in so essentially I am able to bank another $354.00 per month in savings. It adds up quicker than you might think.
Should also mention that we have two teens still at home and they can really be expensive. They were made a part of the plan and do their part to help out too. Their contribution is mostly the avoidance of fast food all the time. They can come home and have a meal or eat before they leave. Things like that.
Sorry for the lengthy post but hopefully I can help anyone else get out of a potentially bad financial situation like we faced.
Regardless it all comes out and I still -sm [2008-08-24]
have the same problem. Believe me I have thought of leaving, I am not dumb. I doubt I could get a restraining order if I tried, I have no proof. I have no where to go either, family would not take me in, though I think they would help financially, they would have to in the event of a divorce, I would never give up my kids w/o one heck of a fight. He has never lifted a hand to me, just verbal abuse and not often, 1-2 a year, and I mainly let it roll off my back and luckily (or not) he is smart enough not to do it in front of the kids. With all this ridiculous craziness surrounding Tropic Thunder, I was curious if any of you were planning on not seeing it because of all the protests. I saw it at the advance screening in my area, and it makes me really sad that so many groups are up in arms over it, because itdumb humor even than it looks in the trailers, and I thought even -that- was funny.
And Tom Cruise's cameo is just spectacularly funny. I'm so glad I didn't miss this one.
Anyone else seeing it this weekend?
Huge animal lover here but I agree [2008-08-01]
I once had the most beautiful cat named dumb cat cause that was exactly what he was, but he knew he was loved and well cared for.
BTW, I live right out of the city limits but if I did live in the city limits I would not be allowed to shoot a gun.
Anyone out there own a HAIER portable washer? - see questions [2008-07-16]
I just bought a Haier portable clothes washer (8.8 pound, top-load model), and a portable dryer too, with my economic stimulus check. Since I've always used laundrymat machines, I'm a little confused about a couple of things not mentioned in the owner's manual.
1 - Dumb question #1: Are you supposed to turn on the water supply at the sink first, and then the poweron button to start the machine, or do you first start the power, and then start the machine?
2 - Okay, here Where do you put the liquid laundry detergent? Theredetergent, but I Also, there is a little thing above that that says detergent dispenser on it. This is confusing, detergent on it, so I don (And although not a domestic goddess, I am quite mechanically-minded and had no trouble assembling the parts and hooking it up.)
I also don or if you first add the detergent, then power it up.
I REALLY don I donkill the poor thing its first day on the job!
We had a dog go deaf and blind - sm [2008-07-12]
I would get her attention by pounding on the floor, but being blind did not help matters. She would walk off the deck sometimes, about a 2 foot drop, funny to see, though not really, luckily she never hurt herself. I would always try to carry her up and down the steps into the house so she would not get hurt. Dog was dumb as a stick as it was so it got comical sometimes. Sweetest dog in the world though, but a yapper (Schipperke). We eventually put her to sleep at about 15/16 years old when she was really losing it. Good dog though.
Anyone do anything really "dumb" before [2008-07-10]
Am I the only one out there??? Have you ever seen the commercial for the paper towel where the kid turns on a blender and all the liquid inside goes all over the kitchen. - Yeppers, that was me today. I just bought a new blender and I was making a bluberry/strawberry smoothie (yes, that I took the cover off, thought I was lifting it off the base and my finger hit the frappe button. All over the place (white walls, white fridge, white counter tops, etc). Luckily it cleaned up with the help of Comet (minus my shirt I was wearing but no big deal on that (was old). Talk about feeling like a real dum-dum. Anyone else ever done anything so dumb so that I will not feel alone.
Is this inconsiderate or what? [2008-07-03]
My son-in-law stopped by our house on the way to work this morning. My hubby was pulling out of the driveway and I saw him give a bag to my husband and he left. My hubby brought the bag to me and said I was told to give this to you until tonight. He said my SIL was going to have a surprise for our daughter this evening after work at a local restaurant but didn I opened the bag and there was ice cream and pickles inside (?). Well, the first thing we thought of was pregnant and needless to say, our first grandchild, the look on our face was shock, disappointment, and happiness at the same time. We just stood there staring at each other, wondering what the **** was going on. My hubby went on to work and called a few minutes later, saying my SIL had text messaged him and said for me nor my husband to call OUR daughter or him today. I have sat in tears most of the day. That jerk (and he is a jerk) just told us our daughter is expecting our grandchild but not to talk to her today. What is the surprise about? He already knows, SHE already knows, we already know. So I guess you have to know my SIL to know he is a controlling person.....my daughter just hasn My husband has been so upset all day about this. Shouldn We are told by him to keep this inside all day. They are going to see his parents tomorrow at their lakehouse and I suppose tell them together, even though I have a feeling he This is a day my husband and I should be so gloriously happy and we feel sad too. We don I have just seen my daughter and she said nothing and I can This is my baby having a baby and we don Our son was here and saw what we saw and he was so happy to be an uncle, grinning from ear to ear, but can I have to say I am so angry with him right now. You have to know how controlling he has been. My daughter wouldn Are you kidding? What sick pleasure does he get from spoiling all this for us by it not coming from her, the pregnant one, standing there. Our child.
We still don After all, they already know, we already know, so why haven I have to say my husband is so upset by this right now, he has called from work several times today and could not even focus on an important meeting this morning. To be honest, I am not at all sure how I will react once we are together this evening. Is this just a dumb way of doing this or has anyone else had this happen like this? We are just dumbfounded about it all and think this is avery cruel way of doing this.
I did listen when I was a kid either. [2008-06-28]
My parents were just a bunch of dumb hard azes that all they wanted to do was prevent me from having any fun. Well, the older I got, the smarter they got.
I am now going through it with my kids and I sometimes wonder how they ever kept sane. LOL. I have a smart-alecky mom that likes to say payback time.
I think it's unbelievably [2008-06-23]
dangerous. People lose control on those machines all the time ... and kids get crushed to DEATH or lose a limb. People are so dumb these days that we have to have things like child-proof safety caps, but there is no way to keep adults from riding little kids on powerful and dangerous machines like lawnmowers and 4-wheelers. Or they buy them their own motorized vehicles - DUH. How about letting kids use kid power so they won't get fat.
The world has gone all upside down.
