Not a charge per se........sm [2008-11-18]
Just be sure that you do it from your land line or online throught the Tracfone web site. If you use your Tracfone to activate or add air time, you could lose some of your air time. Overall, I think it is a great way to have a cell phone because you can control the costs (no surprise $400 phone bills) and there is no contract (therefore no fee for cancellation of your contract if you choose to end the service).

I'm glad you reminded me of Proactive. I'll never buy that again, either. [2008-05-07]
It did absolutely nothing for my son's acne. The only thing that actually did help was a very good dermatologist, and she had nothing nice to say about Proactiv. It's overpriced and just doesn't work for most people who use it.

Proactive [2008-05-06]
Doesn't work like they said on TV, not by a long shot. Not to mention I was dumb enough to buy it while out of town at a mall kiosk who SAID i could return after 30 days no questions asked even in my out of state residence...well when 30 days was up I found out you have to return it at the place you purchased it so $80 down the tubes. I bet I could have received a very nice facial/spa day for that price!

Why is a parent volunteer in charge of the ESL child?!? sm [2008-01-24]
I'm astounded that this task is being left to someone who is not even a teacher, let alone not a specialist. Is this a financially depressed area/school that has lack of funding for such programs? Or a school that normally doesn't have ESL kids and they just don't know what to do with him? Bless you for trying, I don't have any answers, just a dumbfounded look on my face.

Why do they need someone in charge of the guest book? [2007-08-14]
You leave it on the table by the placecards, and people sign it when they get their table assignments. I have never seen anyone in charge of a guest book before. Talk about micromanaging.

I feel if someone makes you feel appreciated and loved, then you should want to be your best for them. If you are doing you best, then he has the problem and needs to lighten up or get gone. If you really could try harder (being organized and being a healthy weight)and want to do that, then do it. (I am overweight, so this is not the advice of a person with a perfect body and I am also not organized!) You may be surprised how much better you feel about yourself and with all that new self-esteem, well just saying he better be on his toes and treat you good.

On the main board about this. If find that I get more help about equipment and IT issues over there. I would say find a used computer store. I've been there [2008-11-20]
I have been in your shoes. Last year my husband died unexpectedly at age 56, I literally woke up one morning and he was dead in our bed next to me (aneurysm). That started a downhill spiral . . . . since then I I canhow depressed III am working now and starting to pull myself up out of the dark hole I've been in. The poster above is right. You need to see a doctor. I found out that most major health systems have programs for those of us with no insurance and no money. Call their financial offices and just tell them point blank you need to be seen and you have no insurance. They will not refuse you. I found a clinic near my house that is part of a largehospital. I was able to see a doctor for a physicalandget my annual Pap and mammogram done at no charge. They gave me samples of my medications (I have asthma) for a few months until I had insurance again. They prescribed an antidepressant which worked wonders and they gave me that as samples each month. Move closer to your family. You My family has been supportive of all the decisions I Spend time with yourgrandchild, kids can make you feel so much better. If you I did. Good luck to you.

I would use coupons more if FL doubled them sm [2008-11-18]
As it is, I will use them if it is something I normally buy, but most of the stuff I get is not stuff they have coupons for, or it is for a different brand that I don't like. Florida doesn't charge sales tax on groceries and we don't have state income tax, but we pay higher grocery prices on a lot of things for that reason. And as much as people hate Wal-Mart, that is where I do my shopping because it is affordable and the prices don't change from week to week because of sales ads, which is mostly bumping up prices on stuff so that you really aren't getting that much of a deal anyway.

The only extended warranty I buy [2008-11-15]

Anyone ever use a debt settlement company - sm [2008-11-03]
like DebtAmerica or something like that, one that eliminates 30% or more of your balance owed, consolidates it and gets each cc to settle on an agreed amount, etc. I am thinking of going that route instead of CCCS company which is just a DMP (consolidates it but you still pay back every penny and interest). Either way you have a big black mark on your credit. I owe a substantial amount and this way I can probably be debt-free in 3-4 years instead of 8 years.I know they charge a fee, and you have to pay taxes on the settled amount but it will be a lot cheaper for me in the long run and I can afford it a lot better. So if anyone has gone this route, please give me your input and who you used and if you were happy with their service, etc. TIA!

Crazy quilt [2008-10-29]

Heard the free trial offer for the acai berry (sp) on line is a farce because once you give all the info and agree to the low shipping charge, you are locked into an automatic charge to your credit card of 80 plus dollars. If you try to contact them, the phone number provided is non-operational and you are stuck. Is this berry product available in retail stores? Also, anyone find any pomegrant (sp) juice helpful and who has the best price on it? Need to lose some winter weight and it's not even winter yet. Kind of hard when you sit all day - I know, I know - diet and exercise! Told by my cardiologist to walk but recuperating from surgery, so not that active. TIA

I actually used to be a book junkie, but since the economic times have gotten so...interesting, and they charge an arm and a leg just for a paperback these days, I have started checking stuff out from the library. I almost won Just is not worth it to pay those prices. Anyhow, off my soapbox. If you have a library nearby they should have most of the books. Charlaine Harris is the author, and she has several other series, as well. HC

No birth control sales, no candy sales, [2008-10-24]
CHANTILLY, Va. — A new drug store at a Virginia strip mall is putting its faith in an unconventional business plan: No candy. No sodas. And no birth control. Divine Mercy Care Pharmacy is among at least seven pharmacies across the nation that are refusing as a matter of faith to sell contraceptives of any kind, even if a person has a prescription. States across the country have been wrestling with the issue of pharmacists who refuse on religious grounds to dispense birth control or morning-after pills, and some have enacted laws requiring drug stores to fill the prescriptions. In Virginia, though, pharmacists can turn away any prescription for any reason. I am grateful to be able to practice, pharmacy manager Robert Semler said, where my conscience will never be violated and my faith does not have to be checked at the door each morning. Semler ran a similar pharmacy before opening the new store, which is not far from Dulles International Airport. The store only sells items that are health-related, including vitamins, skin care products and over-the-counter medications. On Tuesday, the pharmacy celebrated a blessing from Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde. While Divine Mercy Care is not affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church, it is guided by church teachings on sexuality, which forbid any form of artificial contraception, including morning-after pills, condoms and birth control pills, a common prescription used by millions of women in the U.S. This pharmacy is a vibrant example of our Holy Father said Loverde, who sprinkled holy water on the shelves stocked with painkillers and acne treatments. It will allow families to shop in an environment where their faith is not compromised. The drug store is the seventh in the country to be certified as not prescribing birth control by Pharmacists for Life International. The anti-abortion group estimates that perhaps hundreds of other pharmacies have similar policies, though they have not been certified. Earlier this year in Wisconsin, a state appeals court upheld sanctions against a pharmacist who refused to dispense birth control pills to a woman and wouldn't transfer her prescription elsewhere. Elsewhere, at least seven states require pharmacies or pharmacists to fill contraceptive prescriptions, according to the National Women's Law Center. Four states explicitly give pharmacists the right to turn away any prescriptions, the group said. The Virginia store's policy has drawn scorn from some abortion rights groups, who have already called for a boycott and collected more than 1,000 signatures protesting the pharmacy. If this emboldens other pharmacies in other parts of the state, it could really affect low-income and rural women in terms of access, said Tarina Keene, executive director of the Virginia chapter of the National Abortion Rights Action League. Robert Laird, executive director of Divine Mercy Care, believes many of the estimated 50,000 Catholics within a few miles of the store will support its mission and make up for the roughly 10 percent of business that contraceptives represent in a typical pharmacy. Whether Catholics will be drawn to the pharmacy is uncertain. According to a Gallup poll published last year for an extensive study of U.S. Catholicism called American Catholics Today, 75 percent of U.S. Catholics said you can still be a good Catholic even if you don't obey church teachings on birth control. Catherine Muskett said she plans to shop at the drug store even though she lives more than 20 miles away. Obviously it said Muskett, one of about 75 people who crowded into the tiny shop for Tuesday's ceremony.___On the Net:http://www.dmcpharm.comhttp://www.naralva.org/instate/pharmacy.shtml

We cut back on driving, and the demand dropped. [2008-10-21]
Goes to show there is no reason for it to be that high anyway. If they think they can charge that much and get it, they will.

well [2008-10-16]
First, just because some scientists in the medical community think that they have discovered that people are born gay, doesnt mean that is true. But lets say it is. Why would that matter? God created you and me and everyone and he created each and everyone of us to be born in sin. The minute that you are born, you are a sinner. That goes for every person ever ever ever. No one is above it. So should you say ....okay, since I am born a sinner, I should never strive to be better, I should never try to be good? I can just sin away because I was born a sinner. Then you have to figure the fact that actually, no matter how hard you try, you will always do things wrong/sin because you are human and made imperfect. So, that is where Jesus comes in and if you let him, he takes your sin on himself so that when you stand before God, you are perfect and sinless. If you are gay, you can be saved and become sinless to. But the thing is, once you get truly saved and truly believe in Jesus and what he did, you are now accountable to someone, God, and you cannot continue to live the way you used to. You have to work towards change and allow God to change you every day.

fanatic here [2008-10-16]
I guess I am a fanatic but that is fine with me. First, IF my child came to me and said they were gay, i would of course love them in spite of that. God loves us in spite of our sin. But I would tell them that I didnt agree with their choice, that it is a sin and I would show them in the Bible what God says about it. I would pray for them and leave the situation in my Lord Now, just because YOU say that the Bible is left for interpretation doesnt mean that is so. Just because you think you are right, doesnt make it the truth. I have my beliefs, you have yours. Some people are presented with the truth and just cannot or will not see it. There is nothing that I can do about that. God says that in the end many will call his name but he will not hear them, like they didnt hear his truth when he was trying to reach them. Right now, in this post, God is using people, Christians, here on this very board at this very moment to present the truth to you and you are shutting your heart to it.

my sin. here we go.. is there enough room? [2008-10-16]
I lie, I covet, I am jealous, I sometimes swear when I am alone, I have stolen when I was younger, I have anger and lash out, I am moody, I am materialistic, I feel hatred sometimes, I have used God I am a sinner. But thankfully for me, what separates me from my sin is Jesus and his death. Since I took his gift of salvation, I am free of my sin. I can be forgiven, it doesnt all stay on top of me. I will be sinless when I stand before God. So everyone sins and telling someone they have sinned is not being judgmental because you are also a sinner. Being judgmental would be pointing out someone As Christians we are supposed to tell others about God and what he expects, his love, his rules and all of that. You dont just preach a message of love and tolerance or you are only giving half the story. There is no accountability in that.

It will be okay [2008-10-15]
The worst part is over. Telling him the truth. I'm sure there was great stress of holding all of that from him as the debt mounted and now that he knows, you can work together. As far as debt consolidation companies, just be very very careful about which company you choose. There are some out there who will take you for a ride. You will make your payments and your debt goes nowhere. They will just pocket the money and not pay the bills. Then there are some out there that do not charge a fee at all. They will help you set up a payment plan, help you with contacting your creditors to arrange payoffs, even negotiate with them to lower the amount you owe. I'm sorry I can't give you names because I never really paid that much attention to those companies but I have heard of some through the local news in their consumer watch segments. Will see if I can find the names of some reputible companies and post back. Good luck to you. I

make sure they are legit... [2008-10-15]
I agree with the poster who said to be careful about the one you choose, because they are not all reputable, which is what I said in my previous post. I have heard good things about CCCS and they were listed on the Suze Orman website. They charge a minimal fee of $30 per month for their service and will help you with nonsecured debt. They will put you on a budget and make arrangements with your creditors for a reasonable payback schedule that you can afford, based on your income. They have me paying $300 a month for all of my credit card bills---on my own I was paying close to $500 a month and could not afford to. They will also attempt to lower your interest rates with your creditors. It is a good last resort, as long as you research and pick a reputable company. I always Google research before I sign on with anything.

QVC...depends [2008-10-06]
Well, the sets I saw are cheaper, but not the same set you find from American Girl directly. I.e. The Molly doll came with a cuople of outfits, a stand, a couple of books, and I think her pet, which not the exact same set. So it is more than just the doll and one book, but less expensive to get all of that stuff it comes with separately. The doll and book alone from american girl is less $$ but does not include the extra outfit, etc. I didn't watch when it was on in Sept., so maybe they have other accessories or furniture on the show too. I am guessing they sell out fast! Also, if you have not done this, check out the American Girl website for the sales and monthly specials. Over the summer, I got a $40 toboggan for $20 - of course you do have the shipping charge but still cheaper. So they do have some good deals there too, just that there may or may not be an item to go with the doll you have or are looking for...

Really can't blame the govt on this one - sm [2008-09-29]
We all take responsibility for ourselves. Let's talk about the decisions we make and advertising. Some people see an ad for some kind of miracle weight loss drug. We know it isn't going to work the way the ad says it will but... still, some people buy it, the company makes big money. Same thing with some of these shady lenders. They may be sitting on a lot of foreclosures at a time but they will STILL make a lot of money off of the rest of the people. Now lets talk credit cards. Same thing here. I have a Discover card that I had paid off about 2 years ago. I still had a sizable balance on another card but my plan was to close the Discover and keep the other and pay it off too. When I called Discover to close my account after I had paid it off, they wanted to keep me of course so they offered me a fixed rate of 3.99% for three years on any balance transfers, no transfer fees, etc. Okay. I kept the Discover, transferred the balance and closed the other card. I am now 2 months from having it paid off again but....... even though I have requested numerous times that they NOT raise my available credit, they keep doing it. My available credit is now up to $14,000.00. Excuse me but I am NOT that stupid as to charge that much on a credit card, no matter what the interest rate is but..... Some people do it and end up in big trouble. The trick of it is that people need to be smarter than that. It's OUR money, OUR risk. Card companies don't give a rip if they over extend credit to people. They will find a way to squeeze the money out of them.

Neglect [2008-09-21]
My son was no longer seeing this woman by the time my GS was born, but wealways tried to get him for visitation every other weekend. My son works many weekends, so half the time it is just mepicking him up. I live out of town, but still make the trip every other weekend. Mom also has 2 other children prior to my GS.When my GS was about 2 she met and married someone. My son and I are the only family that However, there are sometimes my son wants to spend time only with my GS. I agree the 8-YO should not be in charge, and I'm sure he does resent this. But from everything I've seen, Mom is not going to make the effort. These children need to fend for themselves for most everything. I I used to pick my GS and his brother up on Saturday at 10:00 and could see her just getting out of bed.So I switched and try picking up on Friday after work as often as I can, but is difficult with living out of town. I know the 8-YO needs attention, because he monopolizes the conversation when he's around. When he doesn't come along, my GS always takes something back for his brother. I am trying to teach him to be considerate of others. I worry about what happens that I don't know about. If it wouldn't have been our weekend to pick him up, then I probably never would have known about it. Question is, do I report this to DHS as sibling abuse, or is this considered normal behavior?

Well I see a couple of things here (sm) [2008-09-20]
You may not like all of my answer but take it from someone who knows from growing up in a blended family. The one who is not your grandson is obviously jealous of the attention you give his brother and is resentful at having to babysit his brother when he is only 8 years old. 8 year olds don't know how to babysit and discipline a 6 year old sibling - they don't even know how to take care of themselves! I have an 8-and-a-half year old. No way would she ever be in charge of another child or be left alone. I am assuming the dad of the 6-year-old is your son? WTH is wrong with him and his wife? I know if you say much to them about the way they are raising their children it may cause a problem but they need to be in charge of the household. It sounds like the 8-1/2 year old is expected to practically raise his half-brother. Doesn't sound very fair to me. I'd probably be ticked off too. Why don't you try getting there earlier on Sat if you know they are up and inviting both children to visit with you together? That might be a good place to start.

Thank you - can you tell me what the early (sm) [2008-09-17]
signs or symptoms were? I do let my son pretty much wear what he wants and have his hair how he wants. I have been asking him to get it out of his eyes and I don't want to let him wear old shirts with stains but I'm very lenient with him. When the clothes are in the laundry though, there is not much I can do. I guess I could put him in charge of making sure they are clean? As far as early symptoms, was it anything like this? My son would get very upset if I moved any pictures on the walls or rearranged any furniture and he had a fit if I got my hair cut enough that he could tell a difference, this was up until he was about 5 or so. But he is a very good child, never really gets in trouble, has friends though he is very selective about them so has just a handful.

Teeth whitening question [2008-09-16]
My daughter got her braces off and now wants to have her teeth whitened. I would have the orthodontist do it but they charge about $400.00. Yikes! Anyone use over-the-counter whiteners? If so, which ones give better results? Thanks

The $125 is just the sitting fee. However, I I It I guess it could alsodepend on the area you live in though.

LOL Glad I asked. Something about putting dandruff shampoo on the face didn't seem right. I am almost 30 and have had it since about 14. I took accutane and had great skin for about 10 years, now its slowly creeping. I'm preggers so not sure if its the hormones contributing or not but I don't want to take accutane again. I have tried proactive and just about everything out there and nothing helped except the accutane. I'll give this a shot. I have seen the Apricot Scrub in wal-mart but have never tried it. Oh, if you have one or two problem spots that you want to get rid of quickly, Clean and Clear Persa Gel works great. If I know I have a special event coming up I will use that daily for the week or 2 prior and it helps a lot. It clears up any problem within 2 days but within the first day the redness is completely gone.
