That's why I posted [2008-11-10]
There are girls who are getting sick from this. All I would like is for everyone to research this thoroughly before doing it, and please don't only read the docs articles. Of course they are going to say everyone should have it. Guess who pays them bonuses. As for the lady who said in GA its required. I'd move out of that state before I let the government tell me what I should or should not have done medically. Please just don't buy into the hype of it and question, question, question before thinking about it.

I posted back in late August about cc debt - sm [2008-10-14]
in response to someone else giving advice on what to do. I told you about how I had a ton of debt my DH knew nothing about, how I was afraid of him, etc. and that I just did not know how to tell him.I consulted a lawyer and got some insight and advise in case things went really bad whenIdid tell him.Well I finally bit the bullet and told him on Monday. He was off from work, kids were in school, I wrote a 4 page letter laying it all out. I went out in the LR and I asked him if he loved me and was happy in our marriage, I got yes Then I handed him the note (bawling at this point) and said I was going out for a little while and we would talk when I came back. He called me 10 minutes later, upset yes, but not nuts as I expected. We ended up talking for 2 hours. He was quite good about it which really surprised me, he was in shock though. Later last night after he got drunk not horribly so but enough, though he did not turn nasty. I hadasked him not to drink but he ignored that, so as a result he broke down said a few things which I probably deserved, though he does not believe I was scared of him....denied ever threatening to kill me, said if he did he was kidding and it was his sick sense of humor. I told him I take all death threats seriously. But comes down to he does not want to divorce over it, for which I am happy and grateful, and I think this will ultimately help us. We are taking a 401K loan for the debt on his cards, and I will go to a credit consolidator for the debt on my cards......any recommendations on that front? My credit is in the dump so this is not going to make it much worse. In five years we will be free and clear, paid off debt and house at that point. I have a huge breach of trust to heal and don So he learned whata conniving wife he has and I learned that I had what I wanted all along, just didn We still have a lot to work out, and I am in for 5 or more years of snide backbiting remarks at times I am sure, but I think there is hope for us actually.

How I posted the pic ......... (sm) [2008-10-08]
I WANT to see 'Tornado Alley' desks! hahahahaha! I found posting a pic to be really easy. (The photo will work best if it's in jpg. format). (In order to get these instructions right, I've posted a photo I took in Santa Fe recently.) Assuming you've already taken a pic of your desk, and it's saved in a photo file on your computer, just: 1) After the 'Post Image' box below the subject box of your post on MT Stars, click on 'Click here to Upload Image!' 2) When the next window comes up, click on the 'Browse' button to bring up a list of your computer files. 3) Find your photo (for example, to find mine, I click on Documents, then My Pictures, and then the photo). 4) Click on the photo you've selected, the the name of it will appear in the 'Select Image' box. Click on 'Open'. 5) Click on 'Submit'. 6) The picture will appear, and then click on 'Continue', which should bring you back to the text of your post. Then go ahead and post as usual. Hope that helps. Show us that MESSY DESK! ;D

I posted that last year [2008-09-26]
it was a church party as well but it was my husband who wore that. I wore sweats and pinned sponges all over my clothes and went as self-absorbed.

Ahhh yes. I just posted in the thread below actually [2008-09-16]
about my experience freshman year of college. I went off to college, my boyfriend from the spring/summer went off to a different college (me to Illinois, him to USC!). Didn't take long before he bought a motorcycle, snuck back to Illinois on it, dropped out of USC, starting going to another school only an hour from me. One thing led to another, we kept traveling back and forth between our two schools and barely went to class, I had the experience I posted about below, and ended up leaving school. Twenty-eight years later, we have been married for 24 years but have big, big, big regrets about how we handled college. Boy, it would have been so much better to have not had that attachment when going off to school. This is the time to explore all opportunities, so I would say a broken heart right now is probably the better choice. It will heal, new opportunities will come along. If the relationship is meant to be, they will find their way back to one another down the road, but they both need to realize the importance of college and not let anything come in the way of that.

I think perhaps YOU posted in the wrong area [2008-09-11]
no one on here has posted anything about anyone's husband's health. The original post doesn't talk about anyone's husband.

I posted the same thing after I saw it! It is GREAT!!! [2008-08-19]

I posted this around the 4th of July...sm [2008-08-06]
I wrote this: >>> One of my dogs has a little bit of a problem with loud noises such as fireworks and thunderstorms. He doesn't get too terribly upset (likes to hide, refuses to go outside for awhile even after it's quieted down), but I happened to read an article about how using peppermint oil on the dog's paw pads helps to really calm them, so I'm going to give it a try this year. It has to be real peppermint oil (not the kind found in the grocery store in the baking section), so I went to a local health food store and bought a bottle. You put the oil on a cotton pad, then put some on each of the dog's paws. I did a Google search and found a lot of comments from people saying it worked for their dog. (Just type in 'thunderstorms peppermint oil.') >>> I can tell you, it worked! It lasted for about 3-4 hours. You might want to give it a try. You don't say how young your puppy is, but if he's really young, you might want to check w/your vet just to make sure it's safe to use on a puppy. There is also some sort of vest that is sold that wraps around the dog and makes them feel secure. I haven't tried that though. You also want to avoid unintentionally reinforcing the dog's fearful behavior by comforting/petting the dog too much when it's afraid. Just act like it's no big deal, and say positive things like 'You're okay, buddy!' and go on about your business. Also, I haven't looked at the links that the other poster gave you, but there is probably a lot of great info. there on Cesar Millan's (the Dog Whisperer) website. I love him!

Hey anon - I posted above but will just say a line here [2008-07-29]
Not calling Animal Control because they really are not cruel to their dog. Actually I think the dog should say and Animal Control should take them away. HA HA. Dogs not tied up and every once in awhile (every other day) it gets loose and they go running down the road yelling after it. Why they even have a dog I don't understand. Anyway...they are not cruel to it, they feed it, pay attention to it and it goes in their house at night to sleep. They are just fools that don't have any consideration for their neighbors and giving their neigbors some peace and quiet, but thanks for your post. Bout a year ago at a different location we had to call animal control. Neighbors at another place took off for 2 weeks and left their dog alone. We had to have PD come to see if something didn't happen to them inside the house. Come to find out those flaming imbilci!es went on a vacation and didn't make any arrangements for their dog. They had a freind look in but the friend showed up twice in two weeks. We offered them free pet sitting if they were planning to go away again.

I posted earlier today asking for some suggestions to relieve severe s/m [2008-06-10]
hot flashes. Tonight I am doing a search for cures and came acrossa site that swears by apple cider vinegar. There are many posts on this site stating this has been a miracle for not only hot flashes but many other conditions. Now my question. . . How do you drink vinegar in water every day? I am terrible about any liquid medicines, etc. with a bad taste. Anyone use ACV? I wish there was a better way to ingest it. Thanks!

Just now happened to me. I posted on the main board about it. [2008-04-28]
I have Norton AV and it called it a browser exploit and said the security risk was high. I have not had this happen before and I would like to know why it is happening now. It bothers me that this site is under new owners and all of sudden my AV software is detecing security risks when it never did before. This post will probably be deleted now, but I need to know what is going on. My PC just crashed a couple of weeks ago due to some corrupted files. My PC guy, was able to salvage some of my files, but I lost almost everything! I want to know if that has anything to do with this!

Yes, I posted in regards to this last week. sm [2008-04-28]
My post, however, got deleted. I did receive an email from administration saying it was fixed and it did appear fixed for a day or two, but is now back again. VERY FRUSTRATING!@

I don't know but after I posted this I went to Walmart [2008-04-17]
and got this supposedly comfortable panty that cinches waist and tucks tummy. Looks comfortable. Only 7 bucks. Still too chicken to try it. Now I bid on e bay that body shaper thing like the one on HSN so it makes me 10 pounds lighter. Looks uncomfortable but will try. Of course, I just gave up and am getting size 10/11 jeans now. Going to auction off my size 5 jeans. I am torn between being comfortable and me and looking good and uncomfortable. Don't you just love midlife crises? BTW: I look at vintage clothing from the 80s back to 50s. Nobody could ever fit in those 36-24-36 garments. They had to have worn girdles all the time at least in the 50s, or they had some amazing way to figure out how to distribute!

I won't even buy bird food (I have 2 birds) from a pet store. My son watched the show with me and did ask where can the pet stores get their dogs from. I honestly don't know. Can they go to private breeders? Sorry if I seem dumb, it truely is ignorance on my part, just like my ignorance about puppy mills until recently.

Here is Miss Bea, the dog I posted about yesterday SM [2008-04-01]
Hope you can see this picture and story. She was the dog featured on my letter from the ASPCA. Tuesday, February 19, 2008 Poor Poodle; Amazing Arrest Last Tuesday, ASPCA Special Agent Debbie Ryan arrested Diana Elias, 52, at her home on East 122nd Street, New York City, on misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty. Following up on an anonymous complaint, Agent Ryan discovered Elias’s six-year-old miniature poodle, Miss Bea, in a closet, encased in a solid cocoon of matted hair laden with urine, feces and filth. Long-term lack of grooming and exercise had rendered Miss Bea unable to stand or walk; she was also suffering from an ear infection and nails so overgrown that they curled around and pierced the skin on her paw pads. Vets at the ASPCA's Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital (BMAH) removed three pounds of knotted hair—one-third of the dog’s total body weight. “This was an extreme case of neglect, one that didn’t happen overnight,” says Dr. Robert Reisman, ASPCA Medical Coordinator of Animal Abuse Cases. “The muscles in Miss Bea's front legs had atrophied due to non-use, and her carpal joints—the equivalent of wrists in humans—became extended to compensate for her immobility. It took at least four months for her to reach this state.” While Elias, charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty, faces up to one year in jail and/or a $2,000 fine, Miss Bea is getting her second chance at life and love. After completing medical treatment at BMAH, including spay surgery and a thorough grooming, she was made available for adoption. On February 14, her new parents, Gabrielle and Giovanna Sorci, came all the way from Pennsylvania to adopt the little white dog and give her the love and nurturing she deserves—a true Valentine’s Day success story! **REPOST BY MODERATOR**

This is what thanksgiving is all about...a must read [2008-11-28]
At turkey time last year, Monique White was unemployed, living in a cramped motel room and pining for the Thanksgivings of her childhood, when dozens of people would gather for a holiday feast. Today a receptionist at a dentist's office, she has a townhouse in Littleton, Colo. And, thanks to an Internet posting, a list of Thanksgiving dinner guests — strangers all — who will help her eat nine turkeys, four hams, 16 boxes of stuffing and a dozen or so pies. How did this happen? White, 36, was feeling a bit lonesome a week ago; her two sons were planning to spend the holiday with their father. And though her longtime partner, Doug White, would be there for her on Thanksgiving, she longed to be surrounded by many more people. So she posted invitations on Craigslist, the Internet classifieds site. In part, one read: Maybe you are someone who is new in town and doesn She figured four folks, maybe five would answer. But then the replies poured in: People laid off from work. People with no family. People ashamed to bring their children to a Thanksgiving dinner at a soup kitchen. I thought: There White says. In all, 32 people are expected for dinner. When White's boss heard what she was doing, he offered to pay for the food. Then a local hotel offered to provide tables and chairs. Then a professional magician said he would like to perform for the kids. Certainly a far cry from Thanksgiving 2007, White says. Last year it was just us two. It was horrible. Doug White has been busy baking turkeys, putting one in the oven as soon as another comes out. People need to stop being so worried about me, me, me, my bills, my life, he says. You stop worrying, and look what happens?

To the person who posted to informed us of the free photo books at snapfish.com sponsored by Oprah, I just wanted to thank you! I ordered one and my mom ordered one for herself too! Did anybody else take advantage of this amazing offer?

Wow! Was a nerve hit??? [2008-11-24]
I didnLeave it to Beaver. That's just not the case. By the end of the 1960s and into the 1970s the pendulum had started to swing so far toward women having careers that we were often belittled for choosing to be home with the children. Remember Hillary Clinton's cookie baking comment during her husband's first campaign? In fact, stay-at-home moms were the norm for only one brief period in our history right after WW II in the post war boom times. There was a pretty awful recession in the 1970s, and I remember gas rationing and long lines at the pumps. My mother had to work two jobs, and my father, who was in construction, was often one of the first to feel economic ups and downs in his paycheck. But we had dinner together every night at the kitchen table. Before the stay-at-home mothers of 1950's t.v. fame, most mothers worked. They had to. Only the very privileged stayed home and waited for Ward Cleaver to come home from the office. My grandmother, who lived to be 94, God bless her soul, was born in 1908. Her mother died during the great Spanish flu epidemic in 1918. My grandmother was the eldest of four children, and at the age of 10 she became the woman of the house. She stopped going to school so that she could cook and clean and took care of her father and siblings. And no one thought that was wrong. It was expected because there really weren't any government social services -- no welfare, no foster care. Eventually, when her father's depression over the loss of his wife became so great that he couldn't manage to bring home an income, people in the neighborhood just took over. The two eldest children went to live with other families. The two youngest went to an orphanage. My grandmother's father just drifted away and his children never saw him again. My grandmother married at age 20 and had four children during the depression. Talk about having it hard. When I was a young mother trying to make ends meet and I'd cry to my grandmother, she brought me around to reality. She told me what it was like for her to raise children during that time. Many a night she cried over whether or not she could even feed her children or if they would have a roof over their heads. And she wasn't alone. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, was in the same boat. The Great Depression was enormous. She and my grandfather worked wherever and whenever they could. They brought home a dollar or two at a time and fed their children buttermilk and potatoes. They didn't sleep, they worried all the time. Today, my grandmother's washboard hangs in my kitchen on the wall next to my dishwasher. It reminds me that I have no right to ever say that things are harder on us today. They aren't. Generally speaking, most Americans have so many more advantages, choices and opportunities than those who came before us. Yet many in my generation and the one or two generations behind me are just whiners and crybabies who don't think about the big picture. They even dare to say they have a harder time as parents today. Please. Not even close! Every generation seems to believe that, but just a short trip through a history book proves otherwise. I'm not that very old. But I've raised my children and I raised them well. I know what it takes to do that. It takes self-discipline, sacrifice and consistency. And you know what? That's exhausting. Parents today are tired. So what? All parents are tired. Offer it up, as the old nuns used to say. The kids have homework an hour a night. So what? They should have homework, and parents should make sure that it gets done, because education is important. There are parent-teacher meetings to attend, coaches association meetings, scout meetings, dance lessons, school recitals, etc. etc. etc. So what? Balance it out, quit what can't be done, do what can. Work because you have to. The kids have to be fed. It's still easier than it was a generation ago, two generations ago, three and on and on. We're parents to young ones for only a short time. Which reminds me, let's not forget about birth control. Most of us have 2-point-whatever children these days. I'm the youngest of 7. Most of the families in my neighborhood when I was growing up had 4 or more children. Today women can choose to have as many or as few children as they want. That means that we parent for far fewer years than the generations before us. I'm done with day-to-day parenting after just 20 years, and in fact, it got much easier on my day-to-day schedule once my boys were in high school. But my mother had children at home for 34 years. Imagine the number of cloth diapers for 7 children for year after year after year. Yes. I had it far easier, and I know it. So when I was exhausted raising my two boys, I just sucked it up and kept at it. The OP, I think, probably didn't want to be as blunt as I'm willing to be. She IS helping by babysitting her grandchildren while her children work. I'm sure she loves her children and grandkids, but I'm willing to bet that if she dared to say to her children the things I've posted, her children would react just as you did and she'd end up cut off from her family. To the OP: I hope it helped to vent a little, and I want you to know that I understand.

My family is hurting :( [2008-11-19]
Some of you may remember the recent pet picture postings here. I posted a picture of my baby girl, Daisy, nursing her three babies who arenow nearly two years old. My husbandcame home about an hour and a half ago and went to let them inside, and the only boy (besides the dad), Chewy, did not come with the others. They all always come up on the deck when they hear his car, so he knew something was going on. He came into my office and asked if we had Chewy with us, and then went to see if he had gotten out of the fence. A few minutes later he came in and said that he found him still in the backyard, lying under the trees on a pile of leaves, and that he wasdead. We are all so sad . We do not know what happenedto our baby .. . he had been fine just a couple of hours before, when my son got home from school and went to see the dogs. He said that Chewy was acting no differently than usual and seemed fine. I am just beside myself not knowing what happened to this sweet little guy. He was the SWEETEST EVER and we will miss him dearly. WE LOVE YOU,CHEWY!!! May you rest in peace.

The brindle pit bull on the left there. My pit I posted the pic of on here. This one on the left is his daddy. He is where my pit inherited the short snout and not the somewhat longer ones some pits have. If you notice CJ's (my pit's name) mom on the right there. She has the typical longer snout. It isn't real long but just not short like CJ and his dads are. That is CJs mom and dad. I think they made a beautiful boy, my CJ.

Yes, it is expected that a dog would [2008-11-09]
defend itself by a growl, nip, bark, or retreat to a safer place. It is not expected that a pet would attack and kill a human in response to a perceived threat. These dogs do that very thing. I really hope you read the link I posted about pitbull owners.

abused pit bulls [2008-11-09]
Again I refer to the web site I have posted which gives statistics regarding pit bull ownership by criminals. I don Of course I am not suggesting that you orblondiearecriminals, but I would hope that you could at least admitthat a large percentage of pit bulls are owned by those involved in drugs and other crimes, with the purpose of attacking and/or intimidatingothers in their criminal circle. There are countless other breeds capable of providing the same companionship and loyalty and unconditional love as a pit bull, but without the strength and aggression to kill human beings. Did you read on the web site about the 24-year-old woman who was killed in her own bed by her 2 pit bulls she had raised since puppyhood? Nobody knows what happened, but these were her two babies, and yet then turned on her and killed her. It is believed that she could have had a seizure, as she was epileptic. Why would a dog perceive their master lying in bedhaving a seizure(if indeed that is what happened) as a threat, and why would they kill her? What set them off? Ask yourself THAT question. Ifpit bullswere the only loyal dog or the only loving dog available to own, I could maybe understand the risk all you owners are taking. But that is just not the case. There are so many other breeds with which you can form that same bond, without the terrible risks.

nursing home - hardest decision ever sm [2008-11-09]
I had also made those promises to my folks, Dad was kept home on hospice 14 months, he had suffered brain damage from not being found for hours and was awful to all of us but we managed with a hospital bed, hospice and nurses, however, my whole family fell apart, fighting, etc., until he fell so many times and was so sick, we called 911 one night for help and hospice literally threw us out of the program. You are supposed to call them (in my state anyway) and they will sit with you while you watch them take their last breaths. Could not go through with that. Then we had no choice but nursing home, they took every cent they could get their hands on without touching my momshow up to check on them. Sometimes theyassisted living scenario, and after they clean out the bank book, they put them in a nursing home anyway, so thatsandwich generation between what to do with the parent and if you have kids, what is best for them. Itshow up and if you don it's tough to walk that walk. Take care, hopefully you will make the right decision. In some states you can have her in a nursing home and if she qualifies, you can also have hospice go in there for special care such as you desire for her comfort. Good luck, know we are all thinking of you.

Heat Surge electric fire place [2008-11-09]
I posted a few weeks ago about an article I saw for a Heat Surge electric fireplace with a wooden mantle built by the Amish. Well I received it about 1.5 wks ago and I must say that it is absolutely beautiful! It is virtually noiseless, I seriously cannot hear it running at all. The brightness of the flame is adjustable and it has a low and a high heat setting. Best of all, it works! It does exactly what I had planned on and keeps the back of my house at a reasonable tempurature during the night so I do not have to worry about keeping the wood stove in the front going full blast all night. The kids turned it on one evening when they were playing pool and they actually ended up turning it off because it got to warm. So in my opinion, if you want something that is beautiful, well built, safe, and does provide more than enough heat for a room or two (mine is between the family room/kitchen which is all one long room) then it is absolutely worth the money.

You are absolutely right, he [2008-11-08]
could have done any of a number of things to causeA PIT BULL dog to attack and kill him. He could have yelled at the TV. He could have stepped on one of their feet. He could have fallen down. We donno pet should ever be capable of killing a human with whom it shares a home. Other breeds recognize their master and other humans in their living spaceand take their rightful place. Most good, smartcompanion dogs would have recognized this manThe instinct of these dogs to attack overcomes them and they can This breed should never be kept as pets. You should visit the web site I posted and click on the tab about pit bull owners. I find it very interesting that you have used the same phrases that most owners use to defend the breed. Can you name one desirable character trait that a pit bull has that you cannot find in any other dog?

So tonight we may be snacking and tomorrow night it will be corned beef with steamed cabbage, carrots, and baby white potatos.

my family has quite a few ... [2008-10-30]
some others below posted a couple we do - peanut butter and banana ( which I have decided to save for when I'm toothless :D ) and peanut butter and dill pickles, but I prefer it on toast, lotsa crunch! My grandfather liked peanut butter with thick slices of walla walla sweet onions and put enough garlic powder on the peanut butter you couldn't see it's color. When I was little he told me one time it's why he never got sick, I said sure, nobody will get close enough to give you their germs! My mom loves to put ketchup on just about anything, especially scrambled eggs. She also used to buy the cans of Campbell's bean with bacon condensed soup and make a sandwich with it, with ketchup, of course! My brother was/is addicted to salt. We used to find the salt shaker hidden in his room where the top was all crusted over from licking it to eat the salt. :P gotta admit my family is weird to say the least! lol

I'm not sure if this will work - but it might be worth [2008-10-24]
a try. Does your husband pay the bills or does he give you money to pay them? Make a household budget, including allowances for gas and groceries. Either add in a little extra for the allowances to cover incidentals that might come up or present him with the receipt after he pays. Another thing I would definitely do -- you might want to consult with a divorce attorney. Don Your attorney will tell you what you would be entitled to. Depending on what state you live in, you may even get spousal support for a short time. You should be entitled to have 1/2 of everything you The debt you have accrued will also be shared between him and you. When youboth of your debt regardlesswho charges it. As for your children, you can discuss that with your attorney as well. Let him know your child Only after you are informed by a good divorce attorney, can you decide what Don Find out first and then decide. Most consultations are free or relatively low cost. If you do pay for the consultation, make sure to pay by cash so as not to leave a paper trail. It would be better to make a cash withdrawal on your credit card, if youneed to. Get your ducks in a row before he has a chance to start picking them off. Good luck and keep us posted!

I have to disagree with some of these points [2008-10-22]
I do know that my natural gas bill, which is what I would be heating with, was WAY more than my electric bill. So I totally disagree with the statement that gas central heat is cheaper. My last heating bill 3 years ago (which only included gas) was $450 for one month. What you posted says it uses .12 cph, which would equal approx $90 for 30 days, I could put 5 of them in my home before I reached my last gas bill! Is this for everyone, no. Should it be used as a constant source of heat, probably not for most households (some single people might get away with it). Really the only thing I saw in the article you posted against this heater was the cost of the heater. I am willing to pay that because I happen to want something that looks nice. This has a 30-day money back guarantee and a one year warranty. Where I live anything that you can do to turn the thermostat down, if you use gas, will save you money. I need to heat my house 24/7 for about 7 months out of the year, if I had to pay for natural gas I don't know what I would do.

Too bad that you mom believes in sm [2008-10-21]

is there a reason you were in the fast lane? [2008-10-11]
haha since that was my pet peeve, i had to ask... i mean i may be the one riding your butt if #1) you are going BELOW the posted speed limit or #2) there is NO ONE in the other lanes you are passing!! and you know... you NEVER know why people are going fast. Sometimes they are just irresponsible, but sometimes they may be heading to somewhere that constitutes an emergency for them you know? not that they should put others in danger but i have learned to come to that conclusion...

people drive in the "fast lane" when they aren't passing anyone!!! [2008-10-10]
get over already!!! Didnslower traffic keep right!!! LOL my rant for the day :)

Thanks for the tips - sm [2008-10-08]
I know our daughter wants to be in a State school. She has lots to choose from in NY. And she wants to live at college. Over the past several days since I posted, she I liked that advice about going to the open houses and then if it looks like something she might want to then schedule a more private tour. So now it starts. I I never went to college, and I really hopes she gets everything she wants out of it!

Show us that MESSY DESK! ;D
