A few of us chip in, buy a lovely woven basket with gingham trim and buy tiny clothes pins at the dollar store. Then buy different size clothing because they outgrow so much. Buy a clothesline at the dollar store, remove wrapping from all, onesies, bibs, nightgowns, PJpull me sign, then when she tugs on the line all the items come out and brings lots of oohs and ah's. It works and it's fun. Use neutral colors if you don't know the baby's sex.

Not in the bathtub but - sm [2008-08-28]
When my son was little we always knew when he was on the potty doin the business. He would sing.
We used to just crack up. He would be sitting on the toilet quietly singing to himself and every now and then would get just a little louder. He's 21 now and STILL sings while on the toilet sometimes. heehee
kid in bathtub-is there any better sound in the world? [2008-08-27]
As I sit here and type, my little guy (who His whole life, he has always made these sweet sounds as he plays with his bath toys, just nonsensical, whimsical noises. I always thought that was the sweetest thing when he was a baby, but now, as a little man, he still does it. It When I point out to him how much I love it, he stops, so I Warms my heart, thought I'd share.
Gift basket sm [2008-02-20]
Google Dana Farber in Boston. They have a gift shop there. This may come in handy later when she starts chemo/radiation. For now, I would keep it light, perhaps a Womenif there is anything I can do stuff, just do it. Sounds like you are doing just that. God bless you for it!
I usually buy a bathtub or basket...sm [2008-02-04]
and fill it with baby advil, tylenol, anbesol, wipes, diapers, one of those things you put your bottles and cups in for the dishwasher, a couple of cheap teething toys, baby washcloths, spoons, pacifiers, socks. Sippy cups, bowls with lids. It is all pretty little stuff, but it is practical stuff they will use. Then I try to get a little candle or scented lotion for mommy. I like the idea of a restaurant giftcard or a walmart card so they can get what they need. Have fun with it!

Bathtub opinions needed please! [2007-11-30]
Hi ladies! We are building a new house and our contractor needs to know the dimensions of our new tub in the master bath so he can build the platform around it. My husband has now decided it would be easier to just put in one of those stand alone claw foot tubs. I do not like them, but we are selling the house in 2 years and building another one for our permanent home. So I need opinions. Do you like the looks/functionality of these types of tubs or would you prefer a normal soaking tub with a ceramic surround? Don't hold back, I need honest opinions. Thanks!
Bath and Body Works gift certificate or basket can't go wrong for a girl. sm [2007-11-28]
i made a basket for my brother one year. i had no clue either, but he seemed to really like it. i did a night at the movie theme. filled the basket with snack things since all men i know like to snack, lol. i put in there popcorn, pringles, candy bars, fudge, drinks, gift certificates to Blockbuster, etc. men also like games like checkers, chess, dominoes, poker, etc so maybe a nice poker set or something?
It is a Easter basket. She deserves one. [2007-04-08]

I am really glad the got her an Easter basket. sm [2007-04-08]
why in the world should she have to defer to her birthday? It is a totally different thing.
I got an Easter basket up to 16 or so, loved it - sm [2007-04-08]
yes, I know it was from my parents, but it was still fun every year. My mom knew Easter was my favorite holiday and didn the other one has none (7). --As for the competition that is hard to quash, my DH does it to me and we are married. He wants the kids to like him. It is a pain in the butt and I deal with it the best I can but I don't overly worry about it. I have good kids who listen to me and that is what counts.
We did something similar [2008-11-20]
but it was a local theater gift card instead of the netflix. I didn't know netflix did such a thing. That's a great idea.
A smore's kit is nice to make or homemade marshmellows (they are not that difficult to make as most people think) with homemade hot chocolate mix and some cute mugs.
Also made fleece throws for everyone for xmas one year. YOu can get the no-sew fleece and just cut a fringe around the edge to finish it.
Offer up a free baby sitting night to the parents, all you need is a card. Tuck it in the tree with their name on it.
If there is something special that you make that someone likes you can make up a basket with many of the ingredients and include the recipe card. If it is cookies or something nonperishable you can include a finished version in the basket.
tricky gifts [2008-11-19]
Whatever your specialty is in a nice bag or basket.
Coffee mix recipes with chocolate and cinnamon are good. I made chocolate dipped plastic spoons and those came out good too because you can use really nice chocolate.
There are a lot of ideas out there!
How about ideas for siblings and their families? Here's one [2008-11-19]
I have three siblings, with spouses and children. Not only is it expensive to buy for all of them, but it Last year I went to a craft store and bought cheap baskets on sale. I bought each of them a 2-month subscription to the movies that you get through the mail,NetFlix (can do Blockbuster if you want). I put the gift certificate in the basket along with the big boxes of candy that they sell at the show (.99 cents apiece at Walgreens), a few packets of microwave popcorn, and a 6-pack of their favorite soda. They loved it and everybody enjoyed the movies over the next couple of cold winter months. You can purchase the movie gift certificates on line at their website.
I used to be this way too! [2008-11-08]
It is very unnerving and no matter how much I would get done, I always found myself adding to the list of things to do! Below are my solutions to help me, some the same as other posters.
Make a list. Put EVERYTHING on the list. I find a sense of calm and accomplishment on crossing off even the smallest task from the list.
Use a calender. Break it out into 1 item (or 2 if they are small) per family member. Leave the general house cleaning (bathrooms, dusting, etc) until a few days before.
If anyone doesn't help or gives you problems, well cut out a task that you usually do for them. Make them do their own laundry, if you pick up after them just toss it in their bedroom or somewhere they will notice making it an inconvenience for them, not you. Or if necessary, skip making dinner a few nights. Do pizza 3 nights in a row and I guarantee someone will notice and ask why!
Before you start holiday decorating, eliminate as much other clutter/nick nacks as you can. I find that if I get rid of some of my day-to-day pictures and do-dads, coffee mugs, etc. hanging about that it makes cleaning much easier and really lets the special holiday items shine. Afterall, everyone has probably seen your normal daily stuff some time in the past anyway. After my decorating is done, I put these daily items in the holiday boxes so they are easily switched out again when the holiday is over.
If you have a mother-in-law or aunt or someone who is overly helpful, let them help! I didnthat that he will help me every time. lol He knows she)
If you have someone that you know likes to bake, ask them to bring something that you have had in the past. Tell them you or one of the kids just love it! and have a craving for it. It will be a compliment and they will look forward to bring it for you.
and most importantly, think of what it is like when you go to someone elseShe I'm sure you probably do and remember these people think the same thing. They really don't care what your house looks like and I'm sure being that they aren't having many visitors, their house isn't that clean for the holiday either.
I don't have a problem with long hair on boys [2008-11-07]
but I do have a problem with not keeping it nice. There are a lot of men and boys with long hair that looks good. His is all stringy and icky looking. My son has a longer hair style and thinking about going longer with it but we have had the talk about still looking nice and having some sort of style to it. The minute he doesn't, it goes. Kinda like wearing dirty clothes out of the laundry basket. Sure every kid wants to do it and you have to piok your battles but mine isn't going to walk out of the house looking like no one cares enough to make sure he is a clean, well taken care of, and well fed boy.
Still more... [2008-11-03]
Why do new socks come in a ziploc package??? *someone mentioned that a while back but I just noticed it today
Why did the waittress come by and ask us this morning if we were going to want more to drink when our drinks were nearly empty and we were just half way through the our plate of food??? ...well duh!!
...and then why did she ask dh a few minutes later if he was going to be needing his fork when he had finished his first plate of food, laid it on his napkin and was getting up to go get some fruit at the food bar??? *guess they didn't want us to eat more than one plate. LOL
....and why tonight after church when we stopped at Dairy Queen and I order a chicken strip basket and asked for some Sweet and Sour sauce did the girl ask me if I didn't want my gravy??? What does that have to do with sweet and sour sauce. LOL
She IS cute, but mine is even cuter! sm [2008-10-31]
You have to know, I am NOT a dog person, although dogs think I am. We never had them growing up. I have not been around them and when I have, I mostly can't stand them. They are either filthy and stink, have terrible behavior or terrible owner behavior towards them. It is always something. I would have told you I hate dogs, especially little poodles.
THEN, I downsized because the family grew up and moved out (well for now). I had not been here 3 months when I looked at my fenced yard and my loneliness, and started thinking about a dog. I thought I wanted a big dog because I have poor balance and I trip and fall all the time. A friend who used to breed poodles told me I wanted a poodle or a bichon. She said that poodles don't shed and that I probably needed a small dog. They often live longer with fewer problems and make better companions for quiet people who don't (in my case can't) take them out walking. Then, she got a poodle puppy for herself.
OMG I was IN LOVE. I said, find me a poodle! She said it could take a while, but she'd find me a red poodle. She called the next morning, my pup was on her way here. She was sold to me as red, but she is apricot with white trim. Yup, a 2-tone poodle. She was 8 weeks old, tiny and adorable. I was terrified of her, but I was determined I'd learn to love her and I'd take very gentle loving care of her, no matter how scared and stupid I felt. I'd take her out and play with her and hope I could manage to house break her when I had not a clue. We had many issues over finding a food she could tolerate without puking or scours, but we got there.
You know, she was house broken in under 3 weeks. I worked at teaching her to fetch a little ball and bring it back and she does it beautifully now (she is almost 2). She knows that I require she beg for a treat properly, so that I know what she is asking for and she knows she will get it. She knows how to tell me she needs to go out. When I got her, I said, that dog will N-E-V-E-R sleep in my bed. That lasted until she could jump up on my bed with me and I could not keep her off. She can sleep without me some, but I can't sleep without her at all. She has never chewed a shoe, never peed in something she should not, never chewed furniture or anything like that.
My daughter says she is spoiled. She has a basket of toys and she really does play with them. When she was in that chewy stage, I gave her tiny rawhide bones, which is why I have all my shoes intact. When I go out shopping, which is not often, I buy her a toy or a treat. She is so smart. I bring in the bags and she will go through each one to find what I got her, and never ever takes something that isn't hers.
Last year when my DD came home from college for a weekend and I had not had the dog too long, she kept telling me that my dog would love her better. Nuh uh! The dog loved on her only if I was not there to do it and then ignored my DD when I was!
We have the sort of relationship that every pet and every owner deserves to have. She is like an extra arm or leg, an extra heart with extra love. She is so much a part of me, and I know I am a big part of her too. I love this!!!! I still don't like other people's dogs for the most part, but I love this one to bits.

Not a dish but... [2008-10-09]
I have a box for chocolates and a basket on my computer tower under my desk with a bag of jelly beans in it. Everyone started raiding my chocolate so I had to get creative and hide it in another part of the house entirely. lol If anyone else has this problem, the bathroom is great! Its up on top of my tallest cabinet behind a stack of decorative towels. :)
Don't panic. [2008-10-01]
How is it invested? All 401K's have various investment options. Is some or all of it in stocks? In guaranteed income funds? In a money market? You should NOT take it out of the 401K. The 401K is just a basket that holds investments, and you are penalized heavily if you take it out of the 401K before retirement age. You can move around your investments within the 401K, though, which may or may not be a good idea. I would tend to hang tight for now.
Kindergarten teacher [2008-09-10]
My little one just started kindergarten this year, and already I am getting flak from the teacher. She called me to tell me that my daughter is having problems putting papers in her folder, and that it seems like her hands get flustered when shes trying to do tasks like this. She also tells me that I need to make her do things around the house, like clean up her toys, take her dinner plate to the sink, etc. (all of these things that she has been doing for a while now!), so of course I just say okay, not wanting to seem like a smarty pants by telling her she already does these things. After I got off the phone I gave my daughter papers and a folder and told her to put them inside. She did, without a problem at all. Well, I was dropping her off this morning and I was walking her downstairs to her class and I had her lunch box in my hand from when we got out of the car, and they have this basket that they put the lunches in that sits outside of the door. So as I am walking out I just put it in the basket and go to leave, and the teacher (who was heading towards the classroom) makes it a point to stop in front of me and tells me that I need to let her do these things on her own and not to do them for her. It took all I had not to explode in her face! If I happen to be carrying her lunch box and just put it in the basket myself, I see no problem with that. Its also the demeanor of this teacher that I dontries to be helpful and nice but is actually condescending and rude. I wanted to say, Lady, why don't you get your nose out of my business and go teach the class? UGH. She just drives me up one side of the wall and down the other!!
I believe too [2008-08-05]
I love your philosophy about kids. What a wonderful mother you must be.
I too am a believer. Always have been since I cangrandpa. They had not told him at this point that his grandfather had died. When she asked him how he knew it was grandpa he looked at her and rolled his eyes and said duh, mom.
About 4 years ago I went home to visit my mom who was dying of cancer. I was staying with my sis because there was no room for me at my momwhy, why, why do I have to spend the night, why canBecause your mother needs you. This voice was so loud and clear it sounded like someone was sitting in the passenger seat and scared me enough to make me swerve. I have a strong suspicion it was my grandfather. What he said (because your mother needs you) would not be something I would have thought of as I was only thinking of myself and was ashamed at myself afterwards. So if that was grandpa he put me in my place that day (which is exactly what he would have done if he were here in our realm).
If I see one more fat person at the store in a motorized shopping cart... [2008-07-30]
with the basket full of crap food....I agree that if you are unhealthy because of your diet, smoking or drinking to excess, you should pay more for your healthcare. Why should I pick up thebill for your high cholesterol, diabetes, hypertension, lung cancer, etc? Studies prove that a change in lifestyle can make a huge difference in the state of your health. Look at how many fat, unhealthy kids we see now tethered to the computer or playstation umbilical cord, eating crap, drinking pop all day and looking pasty because of the lack of sunlight!
No washer/dryer at my apt. building, and laundromat [2008-05-12]
it's far away & I'd have to burn valuable gasoline to drive there. Thank goodness I work at home and can wear clothing for several days before washing. I wash them in the bathtub and hang them on the fence to dry.
mothers day [2008-04-12]
how sweet. I have some of my kids friends, who send me gifts for mother's day and they are so sweet. They have given me pics framed of a special tie we spent together or they have given me certificates for Spa day, (my favorite one yet),and then I had one send me flower basket, I am sure whatever you decide it will be special
This holiday has gotten way more low-key and quiet for me. [2008-03-22]
My kids are 20, 18 and 17. The oldest lives at college and has to leave by 11:00 a.m. on Easter morning to make it back to school on Sunday night. We'll go to church on Saturday night to the vigil Mass. We don't buy new outfits, because we don't need them. No egg dyeing, because no one here likes to eat them. But, we will have a big breakfast early on Sunday morning, nibble out of the community candy basket, kiss the oldest one good-bye as he heads back to school, and then I'm going on a hike at the local environmental reserve where I'll sit down on a rock or log somewhere and enjoy the peace, think, and pray for a bit.
Quiet is nice.
I am more tired getting ready for a holiday than if I were to work are you? [2008-03-21]
I donEaster Bunny business. I have today off and there is not much work anyway, so I decided to get ready for Sunday (I have 3 little kids). All I did so far today was go get my daughter a dress, and my boy an outfit, got all the basket stuff together and put them together. Then, I worked on me, day of beauty stuff, hair, etc. I have not worked today, yet doing these things I am exhausted! And I still have to dust, vacuum, declutter office, and bake a cake. Not to mention clean my sons I am putting all that off until tomorrow. Does anyone else find that although transcribing can lead to fatigue at times that doing chores and getting ready for holidays is more tiring?
Ugggg, calgon take me away.... Happy Spring Holidays everyone!
I have my beagle baby back home!!!...sm [2008-02-26]
She was happy to see me and my other dog was very happy because just in the 24 hours she was gone he would not eat. He began to be destructive which he doesn't ever do when you are at home with him. He would go get magazines out of the magazine basket and shred them. He doesn't normally do that unless I leave him at home alone. But I was home so it had to be because his friend was gone and he wanted her back. She is sore but she will be fine. At least I don't have to worry about her coming in to heat anymore.
Anyone have experience with micturition syncope? [2008-02-25]
I found my husband in the middle of the bathroom floor today passed out. He did this once before and the doctor seemed to think it was micturition syncope (syncope during or immediately after urinating). Luckily, he fell in my extra full laundry basket and avoided a head injury. He doesn Before, the doctor seemed to brush this off as a minor incident and nothing to be worried about. He has an appointment tomorrow with his GP for his problem today. This seems to be more common in older men. My husband is 38. Any thoughts or like/same experiences?
I was feeling sad recently, when I took my 2 babies [2008-02-25]
to have them bathed (cats). One I had bathed before and he is the most outgoing. His brother (they are 2) is a very shy guy and runs and hides from most except me. The person at the shop picked him from the way his mother would carry him and he went without a whimper. They were there getting bathed from 8 until after 5. I am thinking of bathing them myself next time- I mostly took them because they have dry skin but still came home with dander. I can do it myself- those boys love the water and try to jump in the bathtub so I will run some in there for them. I always heard cats did not like water?
I need suggestions for someone having a mastectomy...sm [2008-02-19]
a friend is scheduled to have a mastectomy on Thursday as she has breast cancer. People in her church and neighbors have already signed up to take meals to her and her family for 2 weeks. Ilike to put some sort of gift basket together for my friend. What kind of suggestions would you have of things to put in this that would be special and would be meaningful as she recuperates?
I bathe my cat in three buckets. [2008-02-09]
One bucket is warm, soapy water,
and the next two are warm, clear water. I set everything up while she is in another room, then pick her up, bring her to the bathtub, and then dunk, dunk, dunk. I give her a rub down in the soapy water, but the other two buckets are just pretty quick dunk and swish. Head out of the water at all times, of course! I use 5-gallon buckets, so she fits in easily. She's a little girl, just under 8 pounds.
I saw this on a t.v. vet segment on a morning show once. It's quick, and she barely has time to be upset about it.
two people [2008-02-08]
if at all possible, but I don't have any help and rarely do I need to bathe them, only time has been when they had a brief flea outbreak. But if you have no help, just hold by the ruff of the back of the neck and since mine are adults, I let there back feet touch the ground so as not to hold them there by their full weight and do the best I can with washing them with one hand. I do it in the bathtub with a sprayer I have attached to my shower head.
Ohh - PRETTY!!!! Don't think the Easter bunny [2008-02-06]
will put one of those in my basket this year though! :(
