I was diagnosed 11 years ago and that along with SM [2008-07-04]
other physical conditions is why I cannot do a full day. I support myself and still have to do it without benefits, etc. I have tried different things for pain, but they either upset my stomach or were even taken off the market. I know exactly what you are going through. Sometimes I feel so bad I can't even put it into words. Good luck to you.

Senator Kennedy diagnosed with malignant brain tumor. [2008-05-20]
He has to have radiation and chemotherapy. Hopefully he can recover from this.
Have any of you been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder? [2008-05-20]
I have within the last week or so. Just wondering what meds your doc put you in and if it is helping and how long it helped all of your symptoms. I guess I was expecting a feel-good feeling, too, but not really. The anxiety is definitely better. Had gone to the ER 3 times in less than a week, thinking it was my heart, but not.
Any help would be appreciated.
No advice about meds, but... [2008-05-20]
if you are consuming caffeine, try cutting back. It helped me significantly. Even 1 cup of coffee was aggravating my anxiety.
I was on three meds before finding the right one (sm) [2008-05-20]
Zoloft made me too sleepy, Effexor didn't do much but gave me strange buzzing sensations when stopping it. Prozac, low dose (10 mg a day) has helped a lot. I take it in the a.m. so it doesn't keep me up at night. But by the end of the day it helps me sleep. (I also take melatonin for sleep). At first you may have some palpitations when your body is getting used to the Prozac, not sure about the other meds with that symptom. I definitely think Prozac is the best.
I was diagnosed with GAD in 2005. I think everybody's different as far as meds go. SM [2008-05-20]
I am on Effexor XR 150 mg a day and it works wonderfully for me, although when I forget to take my pill, I do get that strange dizzy, buzzy feeling that someone below described. I also have Klonopin if I need it. It's not as strong as Xanax, but it takes the edge off and helps with sleep.
I I have always been a worrier ever since I can remember. I bite my nails, but it was always manageable worrying. Then in the fall of 2005, I had a full blown panic attack. It was the worst experience of my life and I hope that I never have to go through it again. I had a gallbladder attack. I new it was my gallblader. I knew I wasn I started feeling lightheaded, dizzy, and like I was in a tunnel. I was at work and someone told me I should go to the employee health nurse. I did and my BP was through the roof, my pulse was 130, and the nurse just ripped that BP cuff off my arm and said you need to be seen in ER and made sit in a wheelchair and wheeled me down there!
The irony is the more urgent she acted, the worse my panic got. Finally, it was established that I was not having a heart attack, but still my body was freaking out. I could not calm down. Then I started crying and cried for two weeks straight. I couldn I didn I didn I just basically sat in my house, on my couch for two weeks straight crying and fretting. My doctor tried me on several different medicines including Lexapro and Zoloft, both did nothing for me but make feel nauseous. Then he wanted to prescribe an antipsychotic which made me freak out even more. Being a medical Transcriptionist and knowing about drugs, side effects, etc. was NOT conducive to my anxiety disorder!
Finally, I found a female nurse practitioner who was wonderful. She new exactly what I was feeling. Told me her daughter had the same issues and started me on Effexor. I have been panic attack free going on three years. I get what I call mini panic attacks where I can feel myself starting to freak out, but I've taught myself relaxation and breath techniques that calm me down.
Idisorder as me, ya know. When I They were afraid of me, really. My mom kept saying you need to snap out of it. Yeah, ma. If only it were that easy!

My cat was just diagnosed with lymphoma last night. [2008-02-07]
She is 10 years old. I noticed that her back hind leg looked very swollen last Friday. When I felt it, it was a huge lump. She has not been eating and not drinking any water at all.I think it has been there a long time and just did not notice it until lastFriday. I was given the option of amputating her leg, which I cannot do. Give her prednisone and start chemotherapy, but how much time will that give her? Shelooks so sad and sleeps all day and it not using the litter box, about once a day.
I had to make a very hard decision this morning, and I am having her put to sleep. It makes me so very sad, but I do not want her to suffer. I am going to bring her home todayand place her to rest in my garden undera park bench I have out back.I could not think to just leave her there. I am going to miss her greatly.
Just needed to talk as I have been crying all morning and trying to work. I am not going to get much done.
In his defense, on any of these meds, it's easy to forget if you've taken one yet that morning [2008-02-06]

Diagnosed with this since the late 80s, [2008-02-05]
in fact I went in and told the doctor what to check for, had the classic symptoms, intense itching (waking me at night with urge to scratch), terrible coldness all the time, having to sit under blankets. Mine now has turned into Hashimoto's thyroiditis, I was told just a few months ago, thyroid totally gone. Now with the Synthroid, I told my physician did not want to take any more, loss of hair really bad, heard Synthroid noted for that. I asked and now on Armour thyroid and seems like loss is not as bad but still some. People on here have posted against Synthroid.

Hope you aren't diagnosed with fibro [2008-01-23]
because no one believes you anyway. I had heard about before, did not know really much about, if I typed on it paid no attention, diagnosed in 2004 and not having fun yet. This is so far uncontrollable for me-mine might have been better controlled if diagnosed with rheumatism- I would suppose rheumatism feels a lot better than being over the entire body.
I had a "slow Mohs" in 12/00 after being diagnosed sm [2008-01-15]
with melanoma in situ on my left cheek near my eye. I had about 8 shots and I didn't feel a thing. I guess it was called a slow Mohs' because the procedure was about 4 hours long. The wound was open for 1 week until results came back that he got it all out. So for a week I was doped up, as I had a hole in my face that I could put my finger in. I barely have a scar there, he did an excellent job. And so far, no return of the cancer.

she's been diagnosed as bipolar [2008-01-04]
of course, that's according to the press.
My dad is bipolar and has s/a and alcohol problem. I know how heart breaking that can be. It's like people who overeat. We all feel sorry for fat people but if you chose drugs then you are such a bad person but it's the same thing, really. A compulsion is a compulsion, no matter what you are taking into your body.

My dad has been diagnosed with [2007-12-10]
a bacterial infection that is very rare. The word sounds like Narcartia but I am not able to find anything on this bacterial infection so I Does any one have any suggestions or know where I can go to get this info?
He became very sick, had a couple of episodes of losing his sight. When I found out about it (a week later) and he went to the ER, the initial diagnosis was spinal meningitis. This diagnosis eventually evaporated for the lack of a better word. CT scan revealed a lesion on the brain. This was not able to be identified. Brain surgery ensued and this biopsy was sent across the nation to multiple labs. One lab finally made an association with agriculture, ground, farming. About six weeks ago, my dad had spread chicken manure on his garden. What complicates the matter is that he has arthritis and is on Remicade with a depleted immune system. This is probably why this affected him. They are treating him with an antibiotic IV every six hours around the clock. There is only one antibiotic that will treat this bacterial infection. This is making him very sick. The antibiotic does contain sulfa and I don
One other note to help in getting info on this. This must be something that is sometimes seen in AIDS patients because of the depleted immune system. I have tried to Google it in conjunction with AIDS and still cannot come up with info.
That's the story and any info that anyone can help me with would be appreciated!
Adult ADD? Never diagnosed but wondering (sm) [2007-11-21]
So all my life I have been disorganized, first it was papers hanging out everywhere from my notebook, now it is everything in the world stuffed in my purse. My mind wanders all the time. I do transcription but flip back and fourth between here and my work and my e-mail and other things on the net that interest me. And i have to have background noise while I do all this. My house gets very cluttered and than I have to work like a maniac to get it cleaned up but still things are kind of in haphazard places, not really organized. I justalways feel overly busy, overly tired, and behind on everything. So....could I have ADD? Or am I just too busy, bored with sitting in front of the computer, and disorganized??
First off, don't be so quick to get meds. You just sound like a sm [2007-11-21]
disorganized person who finds it hard to concentrate. Itcrazy, which is worse than someone saying ADD. I don't think I'm crazy.
Prayer and church is the one thing that helped me tremendously having never been to church growing up. Ifinding God. Hecraziness, disorganization, beating myself up for wandering when I should be working.
I think the meds suppress the actual symptoms. I've had to deal with much deeper issues and insecurities in my life - always chasing things I shouldn't be chasing after.
Anyways, the kids need me so I better run! I just don't like people telling you that you need meds. I've NEVER taken a medication for anything mental-related. Never. And I have never been happier and more accepting of my life - disorganized or not! The freedom it gives you to accept yourself the way you are is priceless!! it really is.
I know, I also feel so sorry for the nurse who administered the meds (nm) [2007-11-20]

Is your car foreign or American? [2008-11-17]
I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx. My last car is a 93 Buick Century wagon. I sold it to my nephew and he's still driving it. My car before that was a 2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx.
Both Maxxes have 3.5 motors. I'm squeezing out an average of 24 mpg. I do mostly city driving. On a road trip last month the average was 38.6 mpg. The Buick wagon has a 3.3. The car is bigger so the mileage was lower but around 18 mpg.
I have not owned a foreign car since 1996.

My old 1991 Dodge pickup has 450,000 miles on it and I bet it will see half a million. It is a 3/4 ton pickup and still averages about 23 miles to the gallon. Can't beat that. Also have a 2005 Ford F250 and a 2008 Dodge Charger that I am in love with.
This Is So True [2008-11-15]
When I took an IQ test and scored 166, I thought it was a huge mistake.I struggled in school, which I believe is because I was bored. I am very good with technical things (computers and such), but I learn by doing not by reading. ThereI have had depression my whole adult life, but Iwrote about those with higher IQsare just like me. I always thought I was dumb because I did not get As or Bs in school and could not retainmost of whatI read. Of course, like I said, ADD plays a big role in that.
Thanks for your post. Made me realize some things that I hadn Only my husband knows my IQ score...I don't want my friends or other family members to know (I don't think they would believe it).
Does anyone on here have interstitial cystitis?...sm [2008-11-14]
I was just wondering. I was diagnosed with this in September after having problems for a while with my bladder. It is a painful and fustrating illness. I was just looking for someone else who knows how I feel. It comes and goes. I mean I am not in pain all the time but sometimes.
Been there done that [2008-11-13]
If you haven't already, read books about Adult Children of Alcoholics. My dad was a serious alcoholic who managed to hold down 2 full time jobs. He was either coming home drunk in the middle of the night and waking up everyone fighting with my mother, or when he would have a day off, he was an awesome fun Dad. He never drank at home or in front of us. So it was very confusing.
Fast forward many years, at 63 he was diagnosed with cirrhosis and bleeding ulcers and had an emergency subtotal gastrectomy because he almost died. From there on, he stopped drinking because he had to, not because he wanted too. He died less than 3 years later.
He lived with me for the last 2 years and I took care of him, and we became very close. It didn't erase all the bad stuff, but I was at peace when he died.
I would try to make amends with your Dad now and let go of the past, because to put it bluntly you are a big girl now and you can't be angry about your childhood forever. It is not healthy.
One more link from CDC.... [2008-11-12]
Here I clicked on Gardasil Vaccine Reports on the CDC website.
http://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/vaers/FDA_and_CDC_Statement.htm
Information from FDA and CDCon Gardasil and its Safety
July 22, 2008
Gardasil was tested in over 11,000 women in the United States and around the world, and found to be safe and effective in preventing serious HPV-related diseases. These studies showed that in women who have never been infected by HPV types 6, 11, 16 or 18, the vaccine is highly effective, both in preventing precancerous lesions that often develop into cancer of the cervix, vagina, and vulva, and in preventing genital warts often caused by these HPV types.
This vaccine is an important cervical cancer prevention tool that will potentially benefit the health of millions of women. Every year, about 12,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and almost 4,000 die from this disease in the United States. Worldwide, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women, causing an estimated 470,000 new cases and 233,000 deaths per year.
Summary
Based on the review of available information by FDA and CDC, Gardasil continues to be safe and effective, and its benefits continue to outweigh its risks.
CDC has not changed its recommendations for use of Gardasil. FDA has not made any changes to the prescribing information for how the vaccine is used or to the vaccine’s Precautions. In addition, FDA routinely reviews manufacturing information, and has not identified any issues affecting the safety, purity and potency of Gardasil.
I don't think it is a requirement in Georgia - [2008-11-11]
However, my concern is that this is an effective preventative measure and people are not getting it for their daughters. You do not have to be promiscious to get it and believe me it causes lots of problems later.
I only had sex with one man - my husband - before being diagnosed with HPV - and he had only had sex with one other person.
I now have constant female problems and the doctor says it is because of the HPV. My paps come back bad and I have to have the LEEP procedures done routinely, or have biopsies done, I have to have paps every 3 months instead of yearly. I have constant bacterial infections and vaginitis.
Goodness knows, I wish I had had the option of having a vaccine to prevent this stuff before I became sexually active with my husband.
Same here [2008-11-09]
Andy had to go to the vet this morning. He licked & licked his anus until it was totally red & raw, by the time I noticed he wouldn't let me near it to check his anal sacs. Went to the vet: rectal exam, express anal sacs, IM pain meds, 3 days of prednisone and a week of antibiotics: $158.
Zing. Poor little guy. He can hardly sit down.
Also about the teeth being sore... [2008-11-08]
Our orthodontists both told us that if OTC meds do not help your pain, they are too tight and you should call for a 2nd adjustment. Your teeth should not be so sore that you can't eat a regular diet. Who knows, yours might have a different policy or idea, but don't suffer through the pain without asking. I did and they finally told me that I shouldn't be and they don't know that unless the patient tells them.
I'm sorry [2008-11-08]
I didn't mean to make you feel like your opinion wasn't wanted or valid. Like you said, I believe the OP wanted both sides, just discussing an alternate view point and really looking for more info on your point of view. It's good to have info from people that have different ideas. Something like dosing is not something I have thought about and it completely makes sense.
I believe as part of the vote it stated that growing it yourself, for medical reasons, would also be legal - unless I am remembering incorrectly and someone please feel free to correct me. That would bring a valid point of dosing and if you have family members whose to say they aren't going to take a little here and there without medical necessity.
Overall I am basically just speaking from experience of watching a family member die of cancer and take all the meds possible without relief and often wondered if this would have been a viable option for their comfort. Had I known where to get it, I probably would have gotten it for them illegally - but I would have had no clue where to begin with such a search. Yes, that's a lot of emotion going in to a big decision but I think emotion is a big part of medical treatment too.
Asthma info [2008-11-08]
So I haven Something I have just been thinking about recently and thought this might be a good place to start. Who knows, maybe someone here has looked into this topic before and can give me some good info. or starting place. :)
I have had asthma since early childhood. My mother was recently diagnosed with it for the first time in her late 50s. I am wondering if there is a genetic/hereditary link (or possibility of) and it is something that I should keep in mind with my children. I had always thought it was more due to environmental with me but now I wonder if there could be more to it with my mom being diagnosed. I also have pretty severe allergies and my niece was diagnosed with the same, both of us at the age of 3.
Hi; Oh DEFINITELY familial/genetic components to allergies/asthma....sm [2008-11-08]
Allergies run very strongly on my mom there are four of us, my brother had severe hay fever/sinus problems all his life, my sisters have the same, my sister Bev has had asthma which she outgrew, lucky thing, and I started out with just generic allergies that turned into allergic diathesis, which makes me allergic to SO MANY foods, animals, plants, trees, environment substances, chemicals, meds, molds, dust mites, etc., severe asthma, and now my docs want me to consider sinus surgery for polyps and a deviated septum. Also, allergies stem from the immune system, and I also have Sjogren If you go on some of the national information sites for allergy and asthma, they have some very indepth articles on the familial/genetic link to allergies. But please do not despair regarding children, etc. Sometimes one sibling will be mildly allergic, but another will miss it entirely, it is not a dominant disorder. I have three kids, and they are hardly affected at all, just a bit of pollen sensitivity in the Spring. Hope you are doing well!
Thanks everyone so far.. [2008-11-07]

Who would be the best to ask [2008-11-03]
advice about money.I just received my credit score and it is less than 700. However, I paid $6 and received 1 credit score and read at another place I should have 3 after I did this. It did tell me why my score was so low, one was that I don I just paid off my mortgage and I thought that was a good thing. According that that, it is not. I thought maybe I should take out another mortgage against my house. I have a 10K cc bill that is at 28% and thought if I barrowed against my house, I would probably get a lower % and maybe that would help?? but.......another reason it saidwas that I had too many recent inquiries about my credit report. Well, if I borrowed against my house, thenanothercreditor would probably have to look up my report. Another one was that I was 30 days late paying on something too recently and that I had opened and closed an account in too short of a period of time in 2005.
Anyway, my 401K guy is always full of good advice and so is HNeither menever seem to want payment for their good advice as of yet anyway. I just wondered if these are the people I should ask OR is there something better out there. Another problem we are faceing is that our checking account seems to always go under at least 1 a month. Everything is such a mess, I am trying to get it all straightened out. I don

But for a mother to come out and say to her sonI always thought that **** was the most intelligent out of any of the kids. My husband looked at her and just said Fine, he Then she gets mad at my husband because he questioned her. They certainly need some serious meds. Is being an elitist a disease? On Sunday, November 2 (the first Sunday in November) at 2 a.m., Daylight Saving Time ends in the United States. This is the second year that Daylight Saving Time is four weeks longer due to the passage of the Energy Policy Act in 2005. The Act, which extends Daylight Saving Time by four weeks from the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November, is expected to save 10,000 barrels of oil each day through reduced use of power by businesses during daylight hours.
Does your Dad have PVD? [2008-10-21]
Lots of men and women in their 60s and 70s usually start having PAD, and this causes terrible cramps in the legs and sometimes arms. My husband was just diagnosed with this, and he awoke at night with the same problem. I asked him if he was getting enough potassium, but his blood work showed his potassium was fine. He started not being able to walk very far until his muscles began to ache and felt weak. Sure enough, he had some studies done and it showed he had bad circulation in his legs. But, it is also a fact, as told by my MD, that lack of potassium also causes cramps in the legs.
How long has this been going on? [2008-10-21]
How long has your mother had this type of behavior. It sounds like these symptoms; inappropriate behavior, saying things without thinking about them first, might be a signal she has some sort of neurologic problem or the onset of a form of dementia going on. You might notice if your mother has been forgetting things lately, seems detached. If this is not her regular personality, and this is something new for her, then I would gently talk with her and ask her if she is worried, under pressure, or sees anything wrong with how she acts. She might have to see her doctor. My mother exhibited these signs and symptoms around age 60, and then later was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. However, if her memory is good, she is coping with daily life and is able to handle things on her own, she needs a wakeup call. Her behavior in front of your daughter is inappropriate.
when you say yucky [2008-10-15]
Can you describe that? Is it by chance feeling like you are going to get sick but it just never develops? Do you have any general body aches, weird symptoms like getting up in the morning with sore feet?
I ask because I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis about a year ago, and feeling yucky and having hot hands was a symptom I had. Not saying you have it but hot hands are not something that you necessarily think to mention to your doctor, at least I didn Heck, who would think sore feet in the morning would be a symptom, but it is.
Good luck to you.

Nope [2008-10-02]
Look at this way, if the patient is terminal and the meds might help, you could spend the time you have left chasing the dream of a cure. I would rather spend the time with my family rather than chasing something that might help me.
PS: ? Ask to Rx one dose? sm [2008-10-02]
I just read the post about the adverse reaction and I would highly recommend asking that one dose or one pill be prescribed at a time. I know of a case where the patient picked up one pill every day. I think this can be done but am not sure. I can identify with this as my younger sister had a violent reaction to a pill to treat lung cancer and she ended up on a respirator. Before she went on, the pulmonologist asked her permission to writethis adverse reactionup in a medical journal and she said, Yes, please do. The oncologist threw a fit and disagreed. I doubt it was ever published. Good decision or stock in the company, who knows?? Sometimes itready and it was sad. Think out all options, the hardest thing in the world to do! Let's weigh all the pro's and con's and pray if so inclined.
YES! [2008-09-18]
I ended up being diagnosed with Haglund I was laid up, totally non-weightbearing for 16 weeks. My podiatrist said that it was from repetitive use of that foot. I have orthotics now, but Istill am constantly barefooted, which I know is not good. I am going to try the crocks! Thanks for the suggestion.
11 year old boys [2008-09-17]
I am in the same boat. My son does all the things yours is doing right now. Right down to the shower. I am not sure if your son is, but my son has OCD (obsessive complusive disorder)this is worse when he is stressed. He was diagnosed at the age of 3, no he is not on meds and I have used behavior modification for him. Yes the modification works just as well without the harmful side effects of a drug.
I can pass on a few things I have found that work. Only make an issue out of things that can hurt himself or others. Like the hair, yep in the eyes is a pain, but it will not hurt him or anyone and he has control of that. Clothes are the same way, again this is something that at 11 he has control of. I think that is what he is frustrated about. Everything seems out of his control to him. So he is 11 and is stressed and crying is his way right now of letting things out. By allowing him to have control over the smaller things, maybe that will put things into perspective for him again.
Good luck I hope I have helped you in some way.
