Just wondering - those of you who have 16/17 year old children, what are your rules on going out during the week, other than sports or work. I let my teen go out socially on Friday and Saturday night. During the week I feel should be dedicated to school and her part-time job and I'm okay with maybe going for coffee in the afternoon if there is time, or maybe even dinner, but not all the time and don't feel she should be out at night. Especially now that days are shorter and we're headed towards winter. Just wondering how everyone else does it with their teens.

I usually make a diaper wreath to hang on the door for the shower, gift for parents, and can also be used on the hospital door. Very easy and some will use the diapers off of it, some will keep as a keepsake. For my niece, I got one of those big moses baskets, put in the personalized blanket and pillow I made, and filled it with lots of little goodies also. Have you seen the gifts on the clothes lines? That one is always funny. I saw in Rachael Ray magazine that they used clear baby bottles for vases and put flowers in them for decorations. You could also give mom a gift of a photo session for belly art. Some of those are awesome if you get someone who knows what they are doing. Is he being picked on in school? Sounds like there is more going on. Especially the part about him saying he is fat and then not liking stuff the week after you bought it, makes me wonder if somebody has made fun of the clothing/shoes and now he doesn't want to wear them. Kids are ruthless and mean. I would try to dig deeper. My heart breaks for him. I hope he feels better about himself!

Let's see........ Jewerly for girls - name bracelets and necklaces. Name poems and frames (still get updated requests for these and will be on my list this year). Those kind that say J is for so and so, etc. Rice socks one year. Candles and lotions. I bought the kits to do this with at Hobby Lobby and let my kids help make them. Keepsake boxes. I got the copy paper boxes that are very sturdy, wrapped in material, and decorated the box and top. Makes really good keepsake boxes and you could also do several sized boxes too. Photo albums - also bought plain and decorated with material, ribbons, buttons, etc. Picture frames could be done the same way. One year we made stones for the grandparents. Bought the kits at Hobby Lobby and decorated with stones and engraved sayings on them. You could do hand prints or just about anything. For my mom, we made memory stones of my sister, my grandmother, and my grandfather. We just put one that said in loving memory of and the other's with their names on them. She put them in her rose garden.

I wish everyone would protest the marketing of Christmas. I think itmaking money off of Jesus. Especially when they make as much money if they put out decorations the day after Thanksgiving like its been done for years and years. I can't tell you how infuriated I get and my blood pressure rises thinking about this. I'm not a Christian (and I'm not an Athiest), but all I can think of is - Is this what Jesus would want, people to make money off of me? Growing up we celebrated Christmas. Got all the fun gifts like slinkies, easy bake oven, Lite Brite, barbie dolls, etc, but nothing like I-pods, computers, XBox (you know all the $300 a pop gifts) and we considered ourselves very very lucky. For us we celebrated Christmas mostly for the spiritual reasons (not marketing). My sister and I were in girl scouts and we did a lot to help the less fortunate, and I remember on at least 3 occasions (maybe more, but I remember 3) we went through all our toys and clothes and all the stuff we didn't play with anymore that were still in good condition were rounded up and given to a home that a lot of kids lived at (it might have been an orphanage but I don't remember) - I just remember wrapping up our toys and giving them to the kids and they were so thankful and happy. I really wish more people would walk out of a store without buying anything at the stores that decide to start marketing Jesus before Thanksgiving.

Hi, I am responding to this post because I am a product of divorce. My parents divorced when I was 7 and then completely ended their relationship when I was 9...into the arms of two other people. The best thing is I gained new siblings out of everything that I loved very much, step and half. My brother was also a product of divorce whose marriage was failing last year..now, sad to say, I lost my brother to suicide. Who does it really hurt in the long run? Fighting hurts the children, and so does a divorce. My advice to you would be to seek the marriage counseling first, and then if you just cannot make it work, then seek out divorce. Just my opinion, but I hope it helps.

If the cat is going to be totally an inside cat, I think it is okay. . I don't think their should be too much pain associated with it - certainly not for 2 weeks. . But if the cat will be outside at all, it would not be a good idea, as it would have no way to protect itself or climb a tree to get away from dogs, etc. .

Food stamps are a safety net we all pay for, all forms of public assistance are things we have been paying for all along. TAKE the help you need! Do move closer to family if you possibly can. I have been in your shoes myself. I lost my home to foreclosure 4 years ago because of having a near-fatal drug interaction and losing my job of nearly 7 years. I made a couple of moves and finally ended up in a small town out of state from where I had lived for 30 years. I lived with a close friend for about 9 months and had the opportunity to buy a mobile home for $3000. The people I bought it from said I could make payments and I was able to pay it off in 5 months. It needed a lot of work and it has gotten it, most of which I have done myself. This project really helped me to regain parts of myself I had lost. It gave me a reason to get up and get going on my days off. I turned this ugly old thing into a lovely, comfortable home I cherish. I have lost about 50-60 lbs since living here and I have brought the idea of vastly cutting expenses in line with making more money. The end result is that I am very well off financially, better than in my entire life. DO get medication to help you if you can. I didn't have medication to help because I am allergic to every psychotropic in existence. I did this by pulling myself up by the boot straps, but if I could have had help, I would have. There IS a brighter future out there. You CAN have that brighter future because you DESERVE IT. That said, no one expects you to get there alone!!! Don't be embarrassed to ask and receive help. You will be able to help others later. Years ago, when my kids were young, I was a single parent, no support and it was Christmas time. My kids didn't even have adequate clothing or food. A neighbor I hardly knew handed me a Christmas card. Inside was a $100 gift card to K-Mart. She said that many years before that, she had been in my shoes and someone had given her $100 one Christmas, she was now paying this forward to me. The only provision was that I return this favor when I could, and that I bought something for myself too because I deserve nice things for my hard work. It was a turning point for me. I have been more of a giver since. Although I could have paid this back last year, I didn't know anyone who would appropriately benefit. This year, I do and I had to tell her that I was going to do this and why. She cried and felt embarrassed because, she said, she was usually in the position to give and it hurt a little to receive. I reminded her that she was GIVING me the gift of giving with pleasure. Others are going to give to you with pleasure, love, friendship and concern for your well being. TAKE IT. One day you'll post back here about how good things are and I'll want to hear it.

You need to move closer to family and see a doctor. You can also find the local social services department and they will provide free medications for 6 months. you will have to see one of their doctors but and fill out some paperwork but that's the only catch. Depression is higher around the holidays. The weather, finances, family, on top of every day stresses can be overwhelming. Being in this antisocial job doesn't help either. I have often thought of getting something a few days a week just to get out of the house. I think it would do anyone good. Know that things could always be worse and they will get better. Your grandson is young, he doesnwhere as this is a common occurrence in kids. I thought it was only my child but since have found many others are the same. Keep your head up and do what you can. It's ok to cry and vent to others. Don't keep it all bottled up inside. You will be surprised to find who your true friends and family are when you open up and really need them.

They all always come up on the deck when they hear his car, so he knew something was going on. He came into my office and asked if we had Chewy with us, and then went to see if he had gotten out of the fence. A few minutes later he came in and said that he found him still in the backyard, lying under the trees on a pile of leaves, and that he wasdead. We are all so sad . We do not know what happenedto our baby .. . he had been fine just a couple of hours before, when my son got home from school and went to see the dogs. He said that Chewy was acting no differently than usual and seemed fine. I am just beside myself not knowing what happened to this sweet little guy. He was the SWEETEST EVER and we will miss him dearly. WE LOVE YOU,CHEWY!!! May you rest in peace.

It's roomier on the inside than you might expect. We bought the basic version, and it still has plenty of features. When gas was over $4.00 a gallon, my DH, who drives 50 miles round-trip to work each day, was saving $200 a month. Gas is lower now, but we still are saving money. Plus you never have to replace brakes on a Prius, and here in PA, I don't need to pay for emissions inspection since it burns so clean. We get our emissions sticker for free. There are a couple of other little perks like that with a Prius. And, of course, I just think it's fun. :)

My thirst is Sjogren's disease! sm [2008-11-15]
I am always, always and forever chronically thirsty, but I don't have the polyuria to go with it. I have dry eyes, dry nose (to a point where it is usually pretty full of scabs), dry mouth with caries at the gumline. I have gastroparesis and proctalgia fugax which often go with Sjogren's just like the rest of it. Dry skin and feeling like you are drying out from the inside out is part of it. I even get a nasty, clay-like sludgy feeling in my mouth and throat from my stomach being too dry to digest. It is misery and even better than a gallon of water a day doesn't fix the dry feeling, but it keeps my kidneys from shutting down from being dry. Lovely huh?

I had thought of working part-time in a mall to get the discount, do some Christmas shopping, get out to see people, only a few days here and there. Our newspaper used to have at least 3-4 full pages, 7-8 on the week-end, down to 1 column on weekdays, 2 on weekends. Most are heavy lifting jobs for men and/or must speak Spanish, especially if medical. So I buy extra at every sale, extra everything, use coupons, got 30% off from Kohlnice dress with atoy inside.The only thing is I am getting depressed from clutter, too much stuff all over but have to remind myself some have nothing. We do not go out to eat except perhaps soup in a sour bread bowl on special just every other week or at a Panera Bread just to say we went out, bought video movies for a dollar at church bazaars (all Disney) for grandkids, using our VCR which will be obsolete soon but can still watch movies on old TVCutting back in general, baking bread, baking cookies, really clipping and saving everything I can get my hands on. Walmart does not accept internet coupons, so check the newspaper. I do read labels on food from Walmart as some is from China.Joined a wholesale club but found it more expensive than most stores, so we can get our money back, refundin 3 months so they tell us. I really wish I had been more frugal when I made decent money at MT, I can now see I was wasteful and shame on me! I should know better, have been through recessions before. They do turn around and the only good thing is they give us a swift kick in the rear! Feel sorry for those who can barely make it, work is hard to come by in New England and a lot are losing their jobs, even teachers with over 20 years. No one knows when the next shoe will fall, even malls are failing. I am leaving all tags on gifts this year, usually cut them off, but with so many people returning things for the money, they said itand even though I get gift receipts, I want them to see where it came from so the store won't give them grief. Target is the worst for returns. So that's my story here in cold, sleeting today, NE.

My favorite food is pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving and Buche DE Noel on Christmas -- had to be desserts, right? I absolutely love Black Friday. I generally don Last year, a lady (about 50s) was standing inside the cart to reach the electronic items that were on special. She was handing them to her hubs (?) and got yelled at by one of the clerks for standing in the cart. It was hilarious. They made her give back the thing she was buying and go to the back of the line. I don After the early-morning Walmart drop, my best friend and I head off to Lancaster, PA for a weekend shopping trip. Just girls, shopping, food and a hot tub. Favorite holiday memories -- 1. My first boyfriend coming over to spend Christmas with my family. I was so embarrassed by everything then. 2. My (now) husband coming over to spend Christmas with my family. I was so NOT embarrassed by anything. For me, it It It always seems so magical to me. I hope my kids remember it that way some day.

Mine is so sweet I haven't even nuetered him. But there have been some offers to breed him to females and because he is such a wonderful dog I would like to keep his bloodline going with other family pets who are inside family dogs. Now I can tell you if the dogs were bullying my child such as the ones in San Francisco they would no longer be inside and would probably be kept in some kind of kennel. I would not even trust them to stay in the yard. They would have been under lock and key. I know personally that you can't keep a pit bull locked in a room and expect that he won't get out. I tried that when I left my house because I didn't want him to be free roaming around the house because he is nosy and may get into something or chew something. Well he tore the door down and got out. I was so mad. But I learned that you can't keep them in a room and believe they can't get out. He was about a little less than a year then but now he is so good and don't get into things when I leave him. I guess the puppy in him made him do it. But I cannot express enough that mother should have never kept those pits in the house if there was the slightest problem with her son. Those must have been some mean pits. This irresponsible breeding makes me so mad. I don't want my dog to be some mean killing machine. I want a sweet baby. That is why I thought I would never own a pit but he was such a sweetheart as a pup. He was and still is real laid back.

I don't know why these dogs attacked. I don't know if these dogs were provoked or what. It is hard for me to imagine a dog just attacking for no reason. I can't imagine my dog ever doing that. I know other people who have pits as pets and they have never had a problem with attacks. I think every good owner should know their dog inside and out and know their little quirks. Now I could see a pit bull attacking an owner who was sometimes mean to them or mistreated them in some way. I could see them getting enough and attacking. A lot of times I think that is really behind attacks and we don't know that. Still a dog never should kill a human. When you own a pit you have to have the utmost respect for the fact they could kill an animal or human if they wanted. They are physically capable but most are not emotionally capable. My dad had a couple different pits and I have learned my great grandfather had pits for many years. He would only have one at a time. He took his pit hunting hogs and the pit would hold the hog and my great grandfather would put a rag over the dogs nostrils to cause him to have to let go of the hog and he would do whatever it was he then did with the hog. I didn't ask details. But what I am saying here is this was an man who was in close interaction with a pit and was right there when they attacked hogs and he intervened and had to pull them away from the hog by cutting off breathing from the dog so he would let go. He was never attacked or bitten. My dad said that was never an issue. The dogs knew he was the master and they never got out of line. If these were as unstable as some are made out to be and some may be but if they were really that unstable they could have attacked and killed this man. But he never had to worry about this. All of his pits loved and respected him as their owner. Now one deciding factor could be he never mistreated his dog. Never ever. He always treated them good. I think this may be why his dogs never showed him anything but kindness. Again there are some dogs (pits and others) who are unstable. They are just flat out mean and would do anything. But not all dogs are like this. My husband often says when people say aren't you worried CJ could hurt you one day. He says no I KNOW in my heart with everything in me this dog would die before he would hurt one of us. This pit is the most loving affectionate dog I have had the joy to own. Don't ask me how I know.. You would have to know CJ.

It gives all pits a bad name. I am an immense dog lover myself. I love all dogs. There are some pits and Rotties, etc. bred from family pets and bred to be family pets. Unfortunately there are some drug dealers and gangstas who want this big bad dog to go with their gangsta facade. It is so wrong. It is unfortunate because these dogs are all given a bad name for the actions of a few. It makes people weary of them rightfully. My pit came from a mother and father who are big ole babies, inside kept family pets and the grandparents on both sides were family pets too so I do know mine was not intentionally bred to bring out bad traits such as aggressiveness. I knew where he came from and knew what kind of ancestors he had. This eased my mind. My pitbull CJ is a big ole baby. He is weary of a stranger BUT I would never allow him out of the fenced in yard which is in my backyard. He is not allowed even out in my yard in the part that is not fenced in. I am not taking a risk of him biting someone. He is pretty much okay with people even he don't know if they don't approach him. If they give him his space he will give them theirs. That is when I have friends over he doesn't know. But I don't allow him to just be free roaming around and I cannot express how irresponsible that is. The owners should have been paid a visit by the animal control or police and told you keep him in or on a leash or you won't keep him. I am firmly against letting any dog roam free even a poodle I wouldn't because also they can get ran over or anything. It is just flat out irresponsible.

who has never attacked and I honestly with all my heart know he would never hurt me. I believe in all honesty he would die to protect me to make sure I wasn't harmed if that is what it took. I know some pits have attacked owners and I believe these were either unstable dogs or abused or provoked. My dog has a respect for me also. He knows I am the boss and when I take a firm tone and let him know I am not happy with him he just bows his head and lays down. I didn't set out to own a pit bull he kind of fell into my lap you could say and I fell in love with him and he with me. I rocked him as a baby and nurtured him and he loves me with everything in him and I love him the same. My ownership of him just happened unexpectedly and I am so grateful it did. When I am sad he licks my tears and is so loving. I know other breeds are capable of this but CJ just happens to be a pitbull. I dont care. His breed is not important. It is the love in his heart. What is inside him. I don't judge a dog for what they are but who they are.

Instead offocusing narrowly on only your dislike of PitBulls, why don't you look at the bigger picture as a whole... First of all, the statistics on fatal attacks...well it doesn But that still doesn't mean PitBulls are more likely to bite... The statistics that I have read regarding breed specific likelyhood of biting have shown that small dogs (and mixbreeds) are way more likely to be aggressive towards humans and other dogs. Specifically Dachshunds, Chihuahuas, and Jack Russell Terriers to name a few. PitBulls were more likely to show aggression to unfamiliar dogs. I had lunch today with my women's golf group at a buffet inside one of the local casinos. I was astounded to see how many people were in there, gambling away, mid-day, mid-week. I must admit, I've never been in a casino before this afternoon, so I am totally in the dark as to what the appeal is. Any of you here enjoy the games, the gambling, the atmosphere (at least it wasn't smoky!)? What's the draw, cuz I sure don't get it?

and just got out of them about 2 years ago. He looks fabulous! The only trouble he had was at first, his mouth was sore for several days, liquid/smooth diet, but after that everything went great. His were on for about 2.5 years and we could see the change after only 3 or 4 months. He is fastidious about his teeth (really always has been) always wears his retainer at night (a very small one inside the mouth at night only). Make sure you wear the retainer after they are off (assuming they give you one). You will be so happy with your results and the time will fly by. My DH was the ortho's oldest patient he had ever had!

I have some stay cats, mama and 2 babies at the door. I have been feeding them milk, dog food, whatever they will eat. Any, one is a little kitten that managed to get inside and I did not know it. I look in the kitchen and she has a piece of raw chicken. I had boneless chicken breasts out to thaw. Is she going to get sick?Should I give it back to her.

Have had professional painters do the inside of my homes at different times. They all said NOTHING gets paint out of carpet. I would call the kid's mom and tell her. It probably won't do any good as far as the carpet goes, but I would be sure and tell her that her child was not welcome in your home anymore.

in the apartment below me must smoke 4 packs a day. She never leaves the house and she just closets herself inside smoking all day long until about2 a.m. and then sleeps late. I can SMELL the minute she wakes up. I KNOW this is second hand smoke and I have been hospitalized three times in the last two years with bronchitis. I really cant afford to move. I have complained to the apartment manager about it and she basically said there is nothing she can do. I have canvassed the apartment and have blocked up every hole I can that this might be seeping through. Now that the colder weather is here, the windows are closed and it is even worse. I need bigger balls to deal with this and the DH is no help at all because it doesn but I feel that because my asthma is so bad and I am living with this in my home that he should step up with me on this issue. I have lived above this lady for 3 years and I am through.This lady knows my problem, I have THREE hepa filters running in my house and have given her a $500.00 ionic breeze quadra professional unit for her living room.Any good words?

The unpleasant aroma of the gas, called hydrogen sulfide (H2S), can be a little too familiar, as it is expelled by bacteria living in the human colon and eventually makes its way, well, out. The new research found that cells lining miceno doubt produced in cells lining human blood vessels too, the researchers said. Now that we know hydrogen sulfide said Johns Hopkins neuroscientist Solomon H. Snyder, M.D., a co-author of the study detailed in the Oct. 24th issue of the journal Science. Snyder and his colleagues compared normal mice to mice that were missing a gene for an enzyme known as CSE, long suspected as being responsible for making hydrogen sulfide. As they measured hydrogen sulfide levels taken from tissues of the CSE-deficient mice, the scientists found that the gas was depleted in the cardiovascular systems of the altered mice. By contrast, normal mice had higher levels of the gas, thereby showing that hydrogen sulfide is naturally made by mammalian tissues using CSE. Next, the mice were subjected to higher blood pressures comparable to serious hypertension in humans. Scientists had them respond to a chemical called methacholine that relaxes normal blood vessels. The blood vessels of the CSE-lacking mice hardly relaxed, indicating that hydrogen sulfide is a huge contender for regulating blood pressure. Hydrogen sulfide is the most recently discovered member of a family of gasotransmitters, small molecules inside our bodies with important physiological functions. This study is the first to reveal that the CSE enzyme that triggers hydrogen sulfide is activated itself in the same way as other enzymes when they trigger their respective gasotransmitter, such as a nitric oxide-forming enzyme that also regulates blood pressure, Dr. Snyder said. Because gasotransmitters are common in mammals all over the evolutionary tree, these findings on the importance of hydrogen sulfide are thought to have broad applications to human diseases, such as diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases. The research was supported by grants from the U.S. Public Health Service and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research as well as a Research Scientist Award.

I think my sister's reaction to that freaked me out even more than the movie did! If you watch it on TV now, you can tell it was a rubber shark (named 'Bruce'!) But Steven Spielberg was so good at creating the FEAR, long before you ever saw what it was you were supposed to be afraid of, that by the time you finally saw Bruce, you TOTALLY believed he was real.
