Just check all the ads in the newspapers. [2008-11-21]
Most stores have special coupons for early birds on Friday morning. Around here, stores open around 4 a.m. and last year we got there at 3 and stood in line in the cold just waiting to get in. Good luck. Don so unless you are first in line at those places you are usually out of luck. I know last year, people were in line at Best Buy at 2 a.m. waiting for it to open at 5.
Check eBay. I am a doll collector and restorer on the side sm [2008-11-17]
I am also into reborning, though I have yet to have any to ebay. I tend to do very personalized custom dolls. I also sew doll clothing, but I chose not to do that this year because I have not had the right kind of time.
Save my email address because I will start to have some doll clothing next year when I am no longer on hiatus. I had to take the time off because I am landscape painting this fall, now I feel badly I can't help you!
Did you check eBay? [2008-11-16]
That's the first place I check when I'm looking for something like that. I also just did a quick search on Amazon and they have American Girl things, too.
I feel that way a lot, too. My mom is ill and elderly [2008-11-11]
and the thought of losing her just makes me sick. It is so hard to see the decorations and hear the music now. I think of my mom. The financial aspect of it is difficult, too; especially now. When I feel this way I try to think of the real reason we recognize this holiday and that helps.
No when I originally wrote the check [2008-11-08]
The check was a voided check to Wal-Mart and the Loan company, CNH Capital, knew that and cashed it anyway. I thought it was illegalfor someonecash a check that did not belong to them.

elderly man/toddler any difference? [2008-11-08]

I wrote a $10 check to Wal-Mart and turned in to a $40 mistake so far. [2008-11-05]
Here is what happened. When you write a check at this Wal-Mart here, they have you sign something and give the check back. I stuck it back in my purse. They are supposed to void. I was cleaning at my purse that day and paying bills at the same time. I wrote a $250 to pay a loan. I really don A week later, i was looking at my acct online. I notice that that $10 I had written to Wal-Mart went through twice. I called the bank and asked why. They said, oh, it looks like Wal-Mart double dipped. so I was refunded the money. I don Anyway, I became concerned about why that 250 check didn They said $10 was credit to my acct. I did not connect the 2 at the time. I thought, 10, I don The man told me he would look into it incase there was a mistake. He called back the day later and said that was a $10 originally written to Wal-Mart and we cashed it. So I called the bank and told them. They then had me go to wal-mart because they said I owed them $10 back. I go to wal-mart and they say no it is the Telecheck, company they use for this service andthey thanked me for trying to clear it up and said Telecheck will be contacting me. So I get a letter in the mail saying I owe $40 plus I am not allowed to write checks anywhere that uses their service until I pay that $40 back.
Whatscares me is that that check said VOID on it and that other bunch wasstill able to cash it and get their money, which I think was dishonest of them...also my bank let it go through. Now what if I were to loosea bunch of those type checks and someone cashes itAGAIN. Man I would be out a lot.Do you think any of this is right? TIA.

Check your area for reclaimed grocery stores. [2008-10-11]
That's where you can get perfectly good groceries that regular stores have returned for various reasons. Expiration date may be soon, or packaging is out of date because a promotion is over, or maybe the product was discontinued. I saw a segment on the news, and people save around 40% to 50% on their food bills.

I suppose. You'd choose your local area. You could even make a post that you are interested in buying AG products. cut in half thanks to MQ. This will be the last year in an apt I love but cannot afford so will be downsizing. Thankfully, working at home cuts down on gas. My car is leased and I will be turning that in in April and will buy a used car. I go out to dinner once a month now, if that. I rarely order out and if I do, it is because I made a few extra dollars and want to treat myself. I went on a budget plan for gas and electric. I have basic cable now. I lowered my cell phone plan to $22 a month with 64 minutes per month. I am trying to quit smoking.
Being single, it is very hard as there is not another income to count on but I manage and am trying to come to terms that I can no longer live the type of lifestyle I had become accustomed to.
I think it has impacted all of us in some way and it helps to know I am not alone. We just have to do the best we can with what we have. I feel bad for those with children as that must be very hard making ends meet.

Make a list of budget/spending priorities for your self employment income [2008-08-24]
Dave Ramsey's book has a irregular income planning sheet. Basically you list your expenses with the cash flow sheet. With any steady income you allocate it. For irregular income, make a list from the cash flow sheet of what needs to be paid first. Keep a culmulative total.

I had the surgery, just a warning, if you are a grazer (like me) you can gain ALL the weight back, even with RNY.

Boy Scout sites. They usually have some favorite camp meals and recipes that are relatively easy and quick because most of the cooking is done by boys 11 to 18 years old. Here are a couple of my troop's favorites:
Foil Packet Dinner
Any kind of meat or fish
Any kind of vegetables but be sure to use some high-water content veggies such as onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, squash, etc.
A dash or two of soy sauce or Worchestershire sauce.
Aluminum foil
Camp fire
First, lay flat a large sheet of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Place choice of meat in the center of it. Salt and pepper or season to taste. Cover this with thin slices of a variety of veggies and then add a dash of sauce. Fold up butcher style making sure to seal all seams but leave enough room for the steam that will build up. Cook on hot coals (not directly in the fire) for 20 to 30 minutes depending on the meat until meat is done. Fish will take less time and hamburger meat will take longer.
Some possible combinations: Hamburger with salt and pepper or seasoned salt, bell pepper, onions, potatoes, carrots, and green beans with Worchestershire sauce. White fish with lemon pepper seasoning, onions, potatoes and green beans (probably would not need any kind of sauce as this is all high water content). Ham, canned or thinly sliced fresh sweet potatoes, pineapple slices and soy sauce (no salt needed for this one as the soy sauce and ham will be salty).
Dutch-Oven Peach Cobbler
1 box yellow cake mix
1 large can sliced peaches with juice
1 stick oleo or butter.
Aluminum foil.
Large dutch oven
Line Dutch oven with aluminum foil for easy clean up. Dump the peaches in the oven. Dump the cake mix on top of the peaches and distribute evenly. Slice oleo or butter up in small pieces and dot over the top of the cake mix. Cover and cook on Coleman stove or on VERY hot coals near the fire for about 45 minutes. Knock DH and kids away from the fire as they begin to inhale the wonderful aroma!
Hope this helps some.

moving out of state [2008-11-21]
Check your divorce laws in your states. Many states will not let you or your (ex) spouse move out of state without permission of the other. Some even have a mileage radius. I think it's to keep both parents close to the kids and not having one parent run far away so the other can't ever see the kids again. My kids were 5 and 1 when I was in the process of getting divorced, and I moved out of state before I realized this. Fortunately my ex realized and understood the need for me and the kids to be close to my family for support, so it was written in the papers that it was okay for me to move out of state and he signed it.

I have three grown kids (includes 1 in-law) and I have money taken out of my paycheck through the year and whatever the amount is when I get the check, I divide that by 3 and that is how much I spend on the kids. It I put back through the year from my OT and get my husband something nice and then I just pick up a few inexpensive things along the way for a couple of other people I like to give a little something to. I don't think anybody really cares how much I spend on them, but I do try my best to be equal in what I spend on the kids, even at their ages now!

As for the glasses, I just took my son for new glasses yesterday. The eye doctor said he needs a new prescription, but I asked if just the lenses could be replaced and the frames reused. He said absolutely. Our insurance covers new frames, lenses and the exam, but my son has a tendency to break things at the most inopportune time. We just bought him these glasses in June because he broke them and according to the insurance, it wasn Now that he is eligible for everything new, we asked for just the lenses. If he breaks his frames later in the year, we can just get new frames (covered by insurance) and pop the lenses in. The only problem there would be is they discontinue his frames because the new lenses probably wouldn So, something to consider here is, if your stepchild needs a new prescription and already has glasses, then I would check with your lawyer to see if you can just buy new lenses for the current frames. I need some help here -- [2008-11-20]
I am so depressed... I don
I just filed bankruptcy 2 years ago because of this job. My income changed so drastically that I lost everything. My car, my home, all of it.I just got things back on track earlier this year and now this crap has to start all over again. I do not foresee being able to make my rent payments on my new house that I just moved into, my cable will be turned off tonight at midnight for nonpayment, I have an old car now and everything keeps tearing up on it and I cannot afford to fix it, I just looked in my closet and I have no clothes to wear anymore, I have gained 50 pounds, I cry all the time, I am by myself all the time in this house, my family all live about 50 miles from me, so it is not affordable to drive there all the time, I have no friends, and as you can tell, I am seriously DEPRESSED!!!
I don I have done everything. I have no life outside of my home anymore. I never go out, I never take trips, my 5 year old grandson just this weekend asked me why I did not buy him a birthday present for his birthday last month (no money) and Christmas is coming up, which of course will be more of the same since there is no money...

check the theater website for coupons or a frequent visitor card. He probably wouldn't fill one out himself but you could fill it out and include it in with the gift card. Usually you can get free drinks, etc. and it will really stretch the gift card.
We did a movie pack for my brother-in-law and sister-in-law last year. I found a plastic popcorn bucket at the $1 store and wal-mart had candy in the boxes (like at the movies) for a $1. Turned out to be a very cute gift if I do say so myself. We through the giftcard in there instead of buying a $3 card to go along with the giftcard.
You are both so kind, and you are right [2008-11-19]
on the mark. Yes, the credit cards are his. He lived off credit cards for several years to support himself and his kids after he and his wife split up. His wife never paid child support and he paid for daycare and everything, so had to pay for extras outside of his salary on credit. Then when I came along I was doing real well as a hospital MT, but had to quit because I was here and he needed me to watch the kids. He did not understand I had a shift like a regular job. So, after several months of my back and forth work and being with the kids, the boss gave me an ultimatum daycare for the kids or I leave my job. I told my DH that my income which was very good at the time was important to me as I have supported myself my whole life including being a single mom. But he would not budge. So, I quit. It has been 3 years and most of our marriage my trying to balance kids (I love them don Next time you get money mommy, GO FOOD SHOPPING. He said that right in front of DH. So, when I see him and his son eat this way, I get grossed out and am not hungry at all. I am sorry to say all this here. I actually just came back from the doc who gives me nerve pills because of my situation and he says I am doing really well coping with the situation. Which he knows what is going on. He is sending me to see a good counselor who he says, will validate me and give me support and confidence. Last time I went to see a counselor she told me to leave. But, my son loves his step sister and brother and so I want to stay. Well, sorry for the soap opera. I think when I start making more money I will get food and tires for my car, etc. but I will hide some food and snacks and siphon it into the general population here. That way they don't get snorted up by certain people. LOL. (And yes, I am putting an emergency fund away. But this is why I wish there was more transcription out there!) Thanks for your kind words and support. Between you and the doc today, it makes me feel I am not alone! :)
I would use coupons more if FL doubled them sm [2008-11-18]
As it is, I will use them if it is something I normally buy, but most of the stuff I get is not stuff they have coupons for, or it is for a different brand that I don't like. Florida doesn't charge sales tax on groceries and we don't have state income tax, but we pay higher grocery prices on a lot of things for that reason. And as much as people hate Wal-Mart, that is where I do my shopping because it is affordable and the prices don't change from week to week because of sales ads, which is mostly bumping up prices on stuff so that you really aren't getting that much of a deal anyway.

The thing that struck me the most in your post is that you help a friend by listening to dictation. Is this during *your* work hours? If so, try not to answer the phone. I know, it sounds so simple, but if you have kids, this can betough. Anyhow, if the friend asks why you are not answering, tell her you need to focus on getting lines so you can pay your monthly bills (stress this!). Maybe she will get the hint. I had to do this when a coworker called me constantly. I As for the friends working when they were asked not to, well, unfortunately, it is a supervisors/managerHopefullys/he will take care of this. My Rottie did the same thing [2008-11-13]
He loves everybody. He will get up and see who is coming in, but if we tell him okay, he goes back and lays down. We had some repairs being done after a leaking roof. Painters and carpet installers in and out. Roofers on the house. All sorts of noise and men for a few days. The day after they finished the work, I was home by myself, andone of the carpet guys came back and knocked on the door. When I opened the doormy Rottie got between me and the screen door, growled a low serious growl, and his hair on his back came up. The guy wanted to come intocheck on the carpet job. I told himthe carpet was fine, I would call the store if there were any problems, and closed the door. A few weeks later the same guy raped a woman the day after he had been to her house installing carpet. Turns out he didn I trusted my dog Although I don't know what the guy was thinking that he could come in and hurt me without fighting off me and the dog, but you never know!

There are no jobs where I am sm [2008-11-13]
I had thought of working part-time in a mall to get the discount, do some Christmas shopping, get out to see people, only a few days here and there. Our newspaper used to have at least 3-4 full pages, 7-8 on the week-end, down to 1 column on weekdays, 2 on weekends. Most are heavy lifting jobs for men and/or must speak Spanish, especially if medical. So I buy extra at every sale, extra everything, use coupons, got 30% off from Kohlnice dress with atoy inside. The only thing is I am getting depressed from clutter, too much stuff all over but have to remind myself some have nothing. We do not go out to eat except perhaps soup in a sour bread bowl on special just every other week or at a Panera Bread just to say we went out, bought video movies for a dollar at church bazaars (all Disney) for grandkids, using our VCR which will be obsolete soon but can still watch movies on old TVCutting back in general, baking bread, baking cookies, really clipping and saving everything I can get my hands on. Walmart does not accept internet coupons, so check the newspaper. I do read labels on food from Walmart as some is from China.Joined a wholesale club but found it more expensive than most stores, so we can get our money back, refundin 3 months so they tell us. I really wish I had been more frugal when I made decent money at MT, I can now see I was wasteful and shame on me! I should know better, have been through recessions before. They do turn around and the only good thing is they give us a swift kick in the rear! Feel sorry for those who can barely make it, work is hard to come by in New England and a lot are losing their jobs, even teachers with over 20 years. No one knows when the next shoe will fall, even malls are failing. I am leaving all tags on gifts this year, usually cut them off, but with so many people returning things for the money, they said itand even though I get gift receipts, I want them to see where it came from so the store won't give them grief. Target is the worst for returns. So that's my story here in cold, sleeting today, NE.
Another thought. [2008-11-10]
If you were all traveling, they should have wondered and checked on you for safety Didn That would hurt my feelings. If you make plans with a friend and they don't show up, you should at least check to make sure they're okay.

and I dread this day. lol
I would run down to the nearest best buy and see what they offer as far as packages with updates. I know they have such things. Haven't bought one myself but know of people who have.
Then, I would sit down with him and let him know that it's normal for a boy to be curious but that he needs to give things a little time. I would also discuss the dangers of the internet. i.e. purchasing things you don't want to purchase, crazy weird people, etc. 9 is very young in my opinion but kids are exposed to so much these days it doesn't really surprise me. He will be learning about these things in school very soon, not the way he wants to lol, or maybe suggest that you can get some videos for him to watch if he is interested. Usually the school will allow you to check them out and sometimes they are available through your library. I know this because our son's school mentioned it if the parent's wanted to view the same video as the kids or wanted additional resources for kids with questions.
Around that same age my son started asking a LOT of questions just because of commercials and things he picked up on television. We had the talk and told him that he could talk to us any time, write a letter, make an appointment with a counselor or his pediatrician, or whatever he wants if he is embarrassed, etc. Since he has continued to ask questions openly. I think most of it is that the parent's don't make it weird.
No one is judging a dog. Dogs [2008-11-09]
don They are animals. The point that I continue to make is that IT DOES NOT MATTER what this elderly man did. The pets in the home attacked and killed him. NoPET should ever be capable by temperament of attacking and killing a human being.
For the sake of your argument, if the man reached out witha cane and rapped the dog on the head, in your mind would that justify the reactions of the dog to kill the person who struck him? How many other dog breeds would run behind the couch or under a table whenconfronted withabusivetreatment? How many other dog breeds wouldgrowl? Bark?Nip? Bite?No one is saying that an animalshould not defend itself, but a dog whose defense is to kill a human is a dog that should NOT be kept as a pet.A dog is an animal and does not think like a human, as you have pointed out, and that is precisely the thing that makes them unpredictable and makes the pitbull breed attacked unprovoked. It is all in what the dog perceives as a threat, whicha humancannot always predict, or more importantly, cannot always prevent.

I agree with you that they are responsible -- just as you would be responsible if your pit bull were to attack someone. And with a pit bull it is always possible. You may think you are taking every precaution against it, but you can never, ever be sure what your dog will find threatening, and thus when your dog will attack.
