lol no kidding. [2008-11-11]
I think Paula Dean would love this recipe! :) She did something similar a short time ago but used egg noodles in place of the hashbrowns and added spinach and chicken. Not sure exactly the recipe but it sounds like basically the same thing. I remember it looked really yummy.

You have got to be kidding!...sm [2008-10-07]
How in the world do you fall in and not be able to get out. I mean couldn't you open it from the inside? I don't get it.

You must be kidding [2008-10-01]
Love tap?? Pain is pain and No means No, matter who is doing it. If the girl has already forgotten about it, then she is on her way to being a psychopath. I doubt very much the boy has forgotten, what with his throbbing arm. Forgiving the little girl as a Catholic (guilt-wielding psychobabble aside), is absolutely beside the point. This is a 6-year old who is obviously not yet acquainted with the concept of right versus wrong Second chance indeed. It would be absolutely irresponsible to give her a second chance without first making absolutely certain she knows what she did, knows why it was wrong, feels remorse, will never do it again, and expresses all of the above to everyone involved. Good grief. Enough of that Berkeley crapola.

Lipstick on a pig.........just kidding!!!! [2008-09-24]

we are closing on a house next month and mortgage [2008-09-17]
need to come up with some cheap ideas too!! I have several baskets that i have collected over the years and plan on going to the Dollar Tree and getting girlie stuff and filling them up for around $5-10 each, depending on size. My family knows this year is going to be hard on us, so that helps!

You have got to be kidding. [2008-08-18]
I would eat in my car in the parkinglot before paying to eat inside a fast food restaurant. Part of their appeal is that it is cheap and I donto go and then change your mind and eat inside.

Gotta admit -- I was a little worried [2008-08-15]
Not because I doubted their abilities, but because it seemed like in the first rotation or 2, they were showing some serious bias to the Chinese. Shawn Johnson Nastia I I do feel somewhat bad for the Chinese girl, though. I hope she doesn Of course as young as she is, I That Could that be because our girls have a few more hormones running through them, like any normal 16-year-old would? Hmmmm

You must not have any children at all. Quick to sue? It My only concern is my daughter. You don You weren't here when she woke up from nightmares. You're pathetic!

I'm not kidding you - this happened several months [2008-07-01]
you sent them the bill for $800, but obviously in that timeframe your insurance has paid it. What will you do with the $800? You are benefiting from it, not your daughter. You answer none of my questions, which leads me to think you If I were these people, I would have offered to pay the hospital directly for the bill. I would also want to make sure that your insurance company was aware that the bill was paid out-of-pocket, so as not to have double payment. What you are suggesting is insurance fraud. Your insurance pays the bill and then you ask someone else to pay the bill. If I were these people, I would be quite upset at your shadiness. Just call it for what it is. It's all about the money.

I agree. They also don't state how much their mortgage [2008-05-13]
if you don't live beyond your means you don't struggle.

Mortgage? You gotta be kidding. - sm [2008-05-13]
Dont know 'bout the rest of y'all, but I live in a very tiny apartment. My car is 13 years old, and is going to have to last me forever. It guzzles gas, but it's paid for. I never eat out, I eat 2 meals a day instead of 3, and I buy my clothes at the Goodwill. A vacation? Fuggetaboutit! A 'vacation' is when I occasionally allow myself the luxury of watching the evening news on TV.

No kidding. Some of these people sound like they live in a third world country. [2008-05-12]
I honestly can barely believe some of the stuff you people are posting. If you are struggling that much you should find a new job.

I gotta go with the American Pie movies [2008-05-05]
Especially American Wedding when Stiffler eats dog doo! These movies make me pee my pants -- speaking of which, my fav romantic movie is Pretty Woman - thatit was so good, I almost peed my pants. My best friend loves Grease, too. She knows every single line (which can get quite annoying).

you are KIDDING...my child is going to have a cell no matter what [2008-04-22]
that hit our high school. My son was only 8 at the time but by the time he is a teen, especially when he starts driving he WILL have a phone. I couldn't imaging a tragedy like Columbine or the tornado hitting our town and my child NOT having a phone to get in touch with us. I understand they don't want it ringing but it sounds like an invasion of privacy by cell phone nazis.

are you kidding!!!!! [2008-04-04]
It most certainly can help a whole lot. Do you know how many people have no idea where pet store puppies come from. A whole whole bunch. If the word and pictures of this abuse is put out there by a mass publicity machine such as Oprah, hopefully the demand will go down and the supply will also. Oprah herself said she will never ever get another dog unless it is from the shelter herself and how this report has changed her views, so apparently she had no idea of this horrible industry too.

I know. .. I gotta admit It got the best of me and I HAD to SM [2008-04-01]

Gotta a cat question... what is the consensus on declawing? SM [2008-03-11]
My cat likes to sharpen her claws on my leather office chair. I always immediately scold her when she does it and I make her stop, but my chair has got little puncture marks on it which is irritating. My sister had her cat declawed and he was in so much pain for like two weeks afterwards. I just don My vet offers declawing as a service, but she tells me it is akin to having all our fingernails and toelnails ripped off! YEOWCH! So I'm thinking no...

Never before Dec.10 but this year need uplifting sm [2008-11-17]
Perhaps I can ask hubby to drag out my nice blue spruce from the basement for Thanksgiving as where I live the recession is hitting big and we need some joy. I will never forget the kids discovering the tree was fake as it is pretty well made and looks real. It was a hilarious moment of shrieking, Hey, Guys, this tree is fake! Used tohave beautiful, country-themed tastefullydecorated trees and wreaths put up in mid-Dec.So, what the heck, Ireason why I went fake and a bad tree that got so bald by Christmas we had to take it down and had no tree at all that year. Just trying to be festive and lighten the mood. Maybe I will go early, depending on hubbyThat thing again! Oh well.Gotta loosen up a bit.

Just to lighten things up - this morning's news - sm [2008-11-15]
SPAM (the canned meat) is back, factory working overtime, two shifts. Only Christmas and Thanksgiving off. Remember Monty Pythom and Spamalot? One of the workers said he was glad to be working but doesn't think he could eat it. Before we knew what was in it, used to have Spam and eggs. I guess it's not that healthy but history repeating itself? Gotta keep it on the light side. A little humor helps sometimes.

Hubby said they throw lips and noses in there! [2008-11-15]
Don't know if he was kidding, but lost my appetite. Would love to see Spamalot, love Ben Gazzara, he was in it in NY. Bring out your Dead. But I Shut up, stop being a baby!! Something like that. Too funny. Crazy is good these days.

Be fair sm [2008-11-14]
I learned in journalism class that a reporter must be fair. So would you say the same for Pepsi? Just kidding - will have to look further into this. Water is very good for you. Donconsumption per day.Now if I could only drink the tea without sugar - that would be healthy. Try honey but kind of messy, usually give up on it, always in a hurry.

Hang in there and talk to others. [2008-11-13]
Donalcoholic, IGee, Dad I wish you wouldn Confronting sometimes depresses them into drinking. I was fortunate, my dad went to some retreats and quit cold turkey and my kids never knew it, in fact, they hate me to ever mention it, as they idolize him. So he died in my arms at 81, told him he was a good man and I am not sorry. My bros. hated him and I feel sorry for them. I feel peace. He has to think about it but dongot it, I think itGee, gotta go, Dad, gotta get these kiddos home. Perhaps he'll get the message, I hope so! Only he can save himself, not you.

Probably borrow from his parents - sm [2008-11-13]
they are loaded, though act poor (have a couple mil in the bank). Borrow enough to a pay off the house $40K if they would go for it, and I think they would, or sell the house (borrow from them until house is sold) and either rent for a while (we'd have about $140K after the sale of the house and mortgage paid off) or buy a much smaller house. We have land we can sell too so we would not be destitute though it would cause some problems.

Oh, well, it's just hair, you know? sm [2008-11-07]
I agree with her...you gotta pick your battles. That said, my son's hair is longish, but not to his shoulders.

Who would be the best to ask [2008-11-03]
advice about money.I just received my credit score and it is less than 700. However, I paid $6 and received 1 credit score and read at another place I should have 3 after I did this. It did tell me why my score was so low, one was that I don I just paid off my mortgage and I thought that was a good thing. According that that, it is not. I thought maybe I should take out another mortgage against my house. I have a 10K cc bill that is at 28% and thought if I barrowed against my house, I would probably get a lower % and maybe that would help?? but.......another reason it saidwas that I had too many recent inquiries about my credit report. Well, if I borrowed against my house, thenanothercreditor would probably have to look up my report. Another one was that I was 30 days late paying on something too recently and that I had opened and closed an account in too short of a period of time in 2005. Anyway, my 401K guy is always full of good advice and so is HNeither menever seem to want payment for their good advice as of yet anyway. I just wondered if these are the people I should ask OR is there something better out there. Another problem we are faceing is that our checking account seems to always go under at least 1 a month. Everything is such a mess, I am trying to get it all straightened out. I don

my family has quite a few ... [2008-10-30]
some others below posted a couple we do - peanut butter and banana ( which I have decided to save for when I'm toothless :D ) and peanut butter and dill pickles, but I prefer it on toast, lotsa crunch! My grandfather liked peanut butter with thick slices of walla walla sweet onions and put enough garlic powder on the peanut butter you couldn't see it's color. When I was little he told me one time it's why he never got sick, I said sure, nobody will get close enough to give you their germs! My mom loves to put ketchup on just about anything, especially scrambled eggs. She also used to buy the cans of Campbell's bean with bacon condensed soup and make a sandwich with it, with ketchup, of course! My brother was/is addicted to salt. We used to find the salt shaker hidden in his room where the top was all crusted over from licking it to eat the salt. :P gotta admit my family is weird to say the least! lol

What...??? [2008-10-17]
I think the religious right makes far more noise in this country than is appropriate. Toning it down a bit would go a long ways towards tolerance on both sides. Please tell me you however, swearing in on the BIBLE...no more IN GOD WE TRUST on our money...woohoo, bet the religious right just LOVES every one of these! The religious right is far to QUIET...that's why Christians get walked all over and our beliefs get thrown out the window. Come on, you gotta know this stuff....................This whole discussion makes me sad...

No we have to do it this way....he is using that -sm [2008-10-15]
to pay his, I am doing CCCS I guess. We do not want to do bankruptcy, plus we own some property, which he does not want to see, though neither do I, and they would go after that in a bankruptcy. We have done a loan before on the 401K, not a big deal, paid it back in 5 years. We will do the same thing again and still make our current contributions of about $10K a year to it. So we are not shortchanging ourselves too much. He is starting to get mad now though, shock is wearing off, wish it wasn't. But I made the mess and have to live with the consequences. He just wants all the loose ends tied up quickly. I have faith that we won't lose our house....he is now convinced we will....we have never been late with the mortgage and I don't intend to now....with his cards paid off it will free up about $500 (after the loan payback), and I know mine will be reduced so that will free up probably another $500, so we will be okay, actually in better financial shape than before in terms of cash flow, though in debt for 5 years.

I posted back in late August about cc debt - sm [2008-10-14]
in response to someone else giving advice on what to do. I told you about how I had a ton of debt my DH knew nothing about, how I was afraid of him, etc. and that I just did not know how to tell him.I consulted a lawyer and got some insight and advise in case things went really bad whenIdid tell him.Well I finally bit the bullet and told him on Monday. He was off from work, kids were in school, I wrote a 4 page letter laying it all out. I went out in the LR and I asked him if he loved me and was happy in our marriage, I got yes Then I handed him the note (bawling at this point) and said I was going out for a little while and we would talk when I came back. He called me 10 minutes later, upset yes, but not nuts as I expected. We ended up talking for 2 hours. He was quite good about it which really surprised me, he was in shock though. Later last night after he got drunk not horribly so but enough, though he did not turn nasty. I hadasked him not to drink but he ignored that, so as a result he broke down said a few things which I probably deserved, though he does not believe I was scared of him....denied ever threatening to kill me, said if he did he was kidding and it was his sick sense of humor. I told him I take all death threats seriously. But comes down to he does not want to divorce over it, for which I am happy and grateful, and I think this will ultimately help us. We are taking a 401K loan for the debt on his cards, and I will go to a credit consolidator for the debt on my cards......any recommendations on that front? My credit is in the dump so this is not going to make it much worse. In five years we will be free and clear, paid off debt and house at that point. I have a huge breach of trust to heal and don So he learned whata conniving wife he has and I learned that I had what I wanted all along, just didn We still have a lot to work out, and I am in for 5 or more years of snide backbiting remarks at times I am sure, but I think there is hope for us actually.

Sorry Skategirl, but I'm a neat freak...... [2008-10-08]
My desk is nice and neat though I can't take a picture to prove it. HA! HA! Thanks for the picture. If you clean your desk a little, you might be able to type faster. Just kidding!! Have a good day!

Are you serious LOL [2008-10-07]
Are you kidding me LOL! Like I said DOG aggression is not PEOPLE aggression. Look my husband is a certified & trained K9 officer so we know what we're talking about & we can stand behind every single one of our dogs. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

something else while on company time? http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/worklife/09/24/lw.working.on.the.job/index.html ~snippet~ Brian, a 30-something salesman from New York City, uses bathroom breaks to handle the demands of his second job. The bathroom stall becomes a secret cubicle for his other job as a mortgage broker. He sends e-mails, checks his voice mail and makes appointments. Many workers daylight in defiance of company policy, frustrating managers and human-resource executives. I have a certain lifestyle, and I need a certain amount of money coming in, he says. Brian isnCareer Wisdom: 101 Proven Strategies to Ensure Workplace Success, confirms that he has noticed an increase. Shoehorning a second career into the same shift as your primary job is tricky -- and ethically questionable. Some workers do it with the approval of their superiors. But many do it in defiance of company policy (the main reason most daylighters interviewed preferred to remain anonymous) frustrating managers and human-resource executives.

Well, the only debt we have is our house... [2008-09-28]
so I would put it towards the principal on our mortgage.

I agree [2008-09-27]
In college forty years ago I had a huge poster of him on the back side of my dorm room door. I loved all of his movies. He was such a character in Empire Falls. quote: I gotta pee. If you have not seen that TV movie, rent it.

People were talked into getting loans by their realtor and lender, BUT they would have to know that if they are bringing home $3000 a month that they canadjustable rate that it That When I bought my first home there was a formula the lender worked with (I think your house payment could be 30% of monthly net). I feel bad for these people but sometimes there is no one to blame but yourself. Things are getting very tight around here. We put a lot of thought into everything we want/need to buy and usually end up without it. Instead of taking a 2-week vacation this summer, we took a 2-day vacation (that sucked). We are very fortunate in that my husband and I have decent jobs that pay the bills. I have been working at home for 12 years so we have been saving on gas, lunches, clothes and wear and tear on the car. I think things will get a lot worse before they get better. I just continue to count my blessings because I know there are people worse off than I am.

It hasn't too much, except in the 401(k)... [2008-09-26]
We are debt free but the house, the payment only requires one of DH's paychecks (he gets paid twice a month and then on the off weeks he gets his overtime check) or my paycheck for the month when I can get my lines in, we have never taken out a second mortgage or touched the equity in our home. Our mortgage rate is low to mid 5%, cars paid off, CC paid in full, great credit score and we live below our means. We still take vacations, eat in restaurants, etc. Our circle of friends don't seem to have any problem with this economy, other than investments. We are in our late 40s, early 50s, kids grown and gone, we don't pay for college. DH drives 66 miles round trip to work, but has an economical commuter care. Our SUV gets about 20 to 24 mpg, which compares to some newer ones out there. My DH has worked for the same company for 25 years, however, layoffs are coming, and he is putting out his resume just in case. He will get a nice severance package, etc, if it happens, but weare planning in advance just in case. House is up for sale, a few very interested people, and if it sells we will make enough profit to buy a house free and clear. We have always lived below our wage and I think that has helped us tremendously. Do we want new cars, TVs, etc, sure, but why bother, we don't want the payments that come with them. We are happy with what we have, don't have a lot of the gimmes or wantitis that has a lot of Americans in debt up to their eyballs with no way out.

What are your favorite breeds of dog? I will name some of mine SM [2008-09-26]
Scottish Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Greyhound, Ibizan Hound, Scottish Deerhound, Irish Wolfhound, Chihuahua, Schipperke,Dandie Dinmont. . . WOW. I gotta stop, but I could literally go on and on!

This may be to personal for some of you but... [2008-09-25]
How is the economy crisis effecting you? Your budget, your retirement, your family, your FRIENDS families. How is it effecting the circle you run with? Do you discuss this with family or friends? It is effecting my family. The gas thing alone is cutting our budget! My youngest started college and is driving back and forth. I've called my aunt who lives close to the school and asked if he could stay with her a few nights a week to save gas money. The drive for him one way is 1 hour. It has already saved us $$$. The fact that he can't find a job isn't helping either. There are no jobs for young people. Even in fast food! Food prices have effected what we eat! Have you priced CHEESE lately? A 2 cup packages of shredded cheese cost more than a gallon of milk! Food has gotten outrageous. We have our primary home and we have a small cabin that we go to on weekends. Our primary home is paid for and has been but we do have a mortgage on our cabin. LUCKILY and by the grace of God, we are in a fixed rate situation but it's still difficult. Did we spread ourselves to thin? Sometimes it is tough but we budget and try to be careful with what we spend. Our payment is nowhere near the $1500 per month mortgages people are talking about - and at that price point with an adjustable RATE - I don't know how people are living. Also lucky that we do not have credit card debt. I've read where the CC companys are raising limits to increase spending while increasing the payment interest as well? I see more and more credit cards being used at the grocery store. It's all just very scarey for me. We have some friends who are building their dream home. They have worked and saved for 15 years. The economy is blessing them in some ways since there are a lot of people looking for work but hurt them in others as the price of materials skyrockets!

Some thoughts for all [2008-09-17]
Sometimes when someone is saying things that arenWhat it is you are saying? Or I (in a pleasant, sincere tone of course) the person has to stop and think of what they ARE actually saying, and they get a little mirror glimpse of how they are actually coming across (not making sense, not being fair/nice, or whatever.) The hubby who has not had a job in so long (if I understood properly) ... sounds like he is just kidding himself (or trying to distract you) with all his talk about what he is going to do next. It is not good for you OR him to be allowed to continue on that way. And to those who have to keep their mouth shut so not to be slammed. Not fair, and life is too short. Get some counseling for yourself and don't live that way. Connection is the most important thing for people (and all living creatures). You should not be deprived of a decent, loving connection. You can't make someone else behave differently, but you can learn to NOT tolerate it. They will either get help and make changes or you can move forward with a life that is better for you. People will often get away with what they can!

call that b*tch!! [2008-09-16]
just kidding! :) This is such normal behavior for teenagers, I always told my girls that I coached that college is completely different than high school and there would be MANY changes, no matter how in love they thought they were... It is a sad reality, and unfortunately I am not a mom yet but know that when I am I will be dealing with this. I think the only thing you can tell him is the old saying time heals all wounds although it doesnot SEEM like he will EVER get over it by the way he is feeling right now, promise him he will. there are better things out there and everything happens for a reason!!! And you said they havenbroken up yet... you know what's coming obviously... and this is in no way a way to treat someone you love. She is just trying to get out of it easy. good luck, heartbreak is hard. I'm 27 and still go through it :)

Know what you mean [2008-09-10]
I have a little guy in Kindergarten, too, and we have a 1st year teacher, at that. She is constantly sending home reminders to feed our children breakfast. No kidding. But when your kids eat breakfast at 7 a.m. and lunch is not until noon, that's a long time for anyone to go without a snack. In fact, I make sure there are granola bars in my kids backpacks because I got called alot when my daughter was in kindergarten too, that she was sick to her stomach, and it turns out she was just hungry. I would have a sit-down with the teacher. Let her know that you appreciate the effort, because dealing with 20 kids all day would be hard work, but also let her know that your child is fully capable of doing those things. It may not be perfectly done, but who is perfect and precise when they are 5? If you don't talk with her, it might be a LONG year!! Good luck!

it's about 2 miles from the beach [2008-08-29]
here on the West Coast of Michigan in Muskegon. Bought the house from a man who was a nut and who had bought it in foreclosure for 17K. Huge yard, 100 x 100 feet, all fenced. Two bedrooms, one bath, just over 800 square feet (pretty small). All new siding, all new triple-pane windows, new furnace, new fridge, new hot water heater, new stove (found the receipt, $1700 for the set), and a totally re-done kitchen. Itlittle house in the hood. Taxes are about $900 a year. The only repairs we needed to make were to the plumbing, of which there was none, and I mean none. So, my nephew and I spent just over $200 and learned how to plumb -- all connected and flowing, PVC is my new best friend. There I take my child to school of choice out of district, cuz I wanted him to go to school where I went; it Gotta love it, good enough for now.
