No washer/dryer at my apt. building, and laundromat [2008-05-12]
it's far away & I'd have to burn valuable gasoline to drive there. Thank goodness I work at home and can wear clothing for several days before washing. I wash them in the bathtub and hang them on the fence to dry.
Building a house [2008-02-18]
Hey everyone, I am planning on buliding a house soon and I have been debating stick versus modular (not to be confused with manufactured/mobile). I have talked tomany people about both and it seems like a Chevy versus Ford issue around here. I am just looking for some facts. Are modulars really as badas some people say they are? are they as good? If anybody has had any experiences and opinions with either, please share. Thanks a bunch!
You don't want your lining building up (sm) [2007-09-15]
without shedding. That puts a woman at higher risk for cancer, nevermind the heartbreak of not being able to conceive again.
I've gone longer than a year without a period because of PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) in my early 20s. It's not normal and it's not good.
I'm not sure how your post was helpful to her. She has suffered miscarriages--to tell her not to worry about her irregular cycles is not going to particularly help when she really wants a healthy baby, and for that she needs some cycles, and she will worry until that time comes. (Then she will be worrying about her baby during pregnancy.)

After years of owning only American cars, I now own a Prius. [2008-11-17]
I'm getting 50 mpg even on the PA turnpike. I'm extremely happy with it and would buy another in a heartbeat. Earlier in the year, Toyota announced that they will be building Prius in the U.S., too.
Crying all morning.....sm [2008-11-02]
I have been married 15 years....this morning my husband came in and said, Eric said your storage building is ready! You might think I would be happy. He thought I would be. The problem is that in 15 years of marriage I have been able to pick out nothing. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I would like an outside storage building. I mentioned a couple I had seen. My husband did not discuss it with me at all but went to the neighbor and had him build a storage building. I have no idea what it will look like, no idea what size, what color, anything. It wouldn
11 years ago I had just had a baby and my husband picked out our house while I was home recovering from a c-section. He told me this was where we were going to live. He had refused to even look at any of the houses I had liked during my pregnancy. He told me we would remodel this house any way I wanted, get any furniture I wanted. I was so anxious to get out of the rundown noisy apartment building we were in that I agreed to move here. Then of course, no remodeling, no new furniture.
Three years ago I really needed a new car. My husband said he would start looking for one. HE would start looking for one for me. A year later HE had still not found one. I found a used, reasonably priced car and told him I wanted to buy it. He said no. I told him I really needed a vehicle. It was less than $10,000. He finally agreed but was mad at me for a year over it and told his parents that I had gone out and bought myself a new car. It was actually 4 years old. A year ago he bough a boat for $10,000 that I had never even seen and brought it home and announced we had a new boat. Six months ago he bought a $30,000 truck and took me to see it at the dealership after he had already bought it.
So now I am a b*tch for not being happy about the new storage building. woohoo
smoking [2008-11-02]
That's a difficult situation. Legally you can do nothing against her, that's bad. I hope the smoke detectors are well maintained? You can try to talk some sense into her, but I doubt it will help.
The only solution would be that you move into a building where the owner forbids smoking. There are some sensible landlords out there who want to keep their houses smokefree.
But, as you said, that's difficult for you.
Try to convince her to stop smoking or cut down by telling her how bad it is for her health.
There should be 'houses for smokers', stinkers, and 'houses for nonsmokers', nonstinkers.
I have the same problem. I am a nonsmoker and live on the 1st floor, under and on above me both are smokers and I tell you, it stinks!
Yes, I stuck to it and lost 30 pounds in 3 months (sm) [2008-10-28]
You may have increased your salt intake this week and be retaining water? (lots of Weight Watchers dishes are high in sodium)or could you have PMS retention? Also if you started exercising a lot and are building some muscle, you could have lost fat and replaced the fat weight with muscle weight - which is great since muscle is much more compact and burns more calories. A great free website that you might like is 3fatchicks on a diet...not sure of the exact web address but it is very popular and if you Google it you should be able to find it. Don't give up!! I need to go back on it actually!! I have been off the wagon (or is it on the wagon? lol) for a while now. Good luck!!
free credit checks. [2008-10-26]
Is there a way to obtain your credit report for free? I have never checked it. I have always been afraid to, but now I would like to check it now matter how bad and figure on a way to make it better. I have looked on line and found several sites offering free credit checks, but then pay a monthly fee for something. I don I have too many straws in my bank account. I was wondering if my bank would do it or maybe an 800. If I ask, wouldI get laughed out of the building imaging something for free?TIA.
Most definitely -- [2008-10-22]
I have 3 kids. The one thing they want most is a trampoline. We It should run about $400 to $500. In addition, they'll each get a few small gifts for about $100 to $150 each.
We do a name exchange every year with my siblings, normally spending $60 to $80 per gift, but this year we cut that back to $30 per gift. For the parents -- cash or gift cards -- save money on gas to return unwanted gifts. My hubs and I agreed on only 1 small gift for each other. We're building a house and want to spend the cash on new furnishings.
In case this sounds like a lot, we normally spendabout $3000 on Christmas and this year we

Yes, he is neutered buthe mostly enjoys the hunt for mice and voles--he leaves intact evidence. I was so lucky with my last cat. Seriously, he never went away from the backyard andhe wasnever taught to do that. If only I had paid more attention to what we were doing right, I could have written that book! I tried a harness and leash with this new guy but, the dog (a big Lab mix) likes to followthe cat around and that freakshim out. I might try building a good-sized chicken wire enclosure. Sorry for the rambling, just thinking out loud.
Totally agree and I've always wondered...sm [2008-10-17]
HOW the H**L do they get away with it when they obviously are NOT the majority?!!?? I don And if they have rights to have things their way, what about OUR rights to have it OUR way??? I Especially the whole Christmas thing. It seems to me, that if 99% of the people WANT Christmas parties or Halloween parties or whatever then they should have them. It would then be the parents right to keep their child home from school on the days of the parties they do not believe in. The same goes with the Pledge of Allegiance. If you don Don I also don They have to know they are the minority, yet they took away our rights, not to mention in some cases, many, many, many years worth of history! I
Can you imagine if we did our presidential elections the same way? And WHY the H*ll are WE, the majority, not putting up the same fight the p*sshead, friggin crybabies did to get these things back??? Instead we sit back and p*ss and moan and cry about it. (and go off on boards like I am right now, lol)

I cant believe it has been on here this long! I am quite sure that it is going to go fast. By the way, look up the EU, European Union. Go to Google and Images and check out the building. In front of it is a statue of a woman riding a beast. Also, their seats for the congress/senate or whatever they are called are numbered, going up to 800 or something. all filled up with the persons name, except number 666 is empty.
what? [2008-10-16]
That is a lame way of parenting in my humble opinion. Teaching your child right from wrong and what God requires of us is not sheltering them. It is building character, a functional person that can add something to society, a God-fearing member of this world. Your attitude is exactly one of the reasons why our youth is the way they are today. I guess just anything goes these days.
Okay then.....sm [2008-10-16]
That bright shiny new car in my neighbor's driveway would make me happy. I think I will just go hotwire it and drive away in it. After all, if God wants me to be happy, then it's okay, right?
Or maybe that married guy down at the auto part store just really makes my motor run. I think I will just seduce him and have an affair with him and cause his marriage to break up. God said he wants me to be happy, right?
My neighbor is building an addition to his house....and he is doing all the work in the middle of the night and I can't sleep for the hammering and sawing. I think I will just go over and kill him and then I will be happy that I can finally sleep. God wants me to be happy, right?
WRONG!!!
Can you see the flaw in this line of reasoning? God gave us laws by which to live and wants us to follow these laws. If everyone did follow these laws, then everyone would be happy. However, thiefs, adulterers, murderers, and yes, even gays, choose not to follow the laws. Christians sometimes do not follow the laws either, in case you were about to point that out. Until this world/nation gets back to the Bible, no one will truly be happy, and I am sorry to say that I don't see that happening anytime soon.
First, avoid credit cards, charging.... [2008-10-15]
Try not to use plastic if you possibly can because you better yet, don't go there at all, stay home! Just my humble opinion, less is more, family is all that counts, don't scare the kids! Leave your 401 alone, it WILL come back, don't despair, it will repair.
At the hospital where I worked there were [2008-09-29]
pampered chef, anything you wanted to buy, you could purchase all on company time. There were also people that would sell dinner plates through their church.
This daylighting is nothing new. I myself on breaks would deliver typed reports to an internal office. I stayed in the building, but I was on my break (not paid) or on lunch (not paid). So, what's the difference?
Tell me this isn anyone who has worked on-site knows it happens every day.
My sister's (now ex)husband kicked her - sm [2008-09-29]
pregnant golden retriever in the stomach repeatedly because he'd had an argument with my sister. Then he went off to work, as usual.
My sister didn't waste a single minute. As soon as he left, she called in sick to work, drove to the city, hired an attorney, and filed for divorce. She also put a lien on a bunch of building materials he was about to receive, because she knew how much $ all that was worth. Then she went to the hardware store.
By the time he came home that evening, the dog was safely inside a house whose locks had all been changed, his other truck in the driveway had been towed away to an undisclosed location, and all of his personal belongings were sitting out at the curb.
Oh. And since he had also hit HER, she had filed a restraining order against him.
She got half the house, which the judge forced him to sell, even though he built it with his own hands, and was on a PRIME piece of property. She made sure EVERYBODY IN TOWN knew what had happened, and people stopped hiring him to do construction work. He finally had to move out of state.
Just goes to show, you shouldn't kick your wife's dog.
This may be to personal for some of you but... [2008-09-25]
How is the economy crisis effecting you? Your budget, your retirement, your family, your FRIENDS families.
How is it effecting the circle you run with? Do you discuss this with family or friends?
It is effecting my family. The gas thing alone is cutting our budget! My youngest started college and is driving back and forth. I've called my aunt who lives close to the school and asked if he could stay with her a few nights a week to save gas money. The drive for him one way is 1 hour. It has already saved us $$$. The fact that he can't find a job isn't helping either. There are no jobs for young people. Even in fast food!
Food prices have effected what we eat! Have you priced CHEESE lately? A 2 cup packages of shredded cheese cost more than a gallon of milk! Food has gotten outrageous.
We have our primary home and we have a small cabin that we go to on weekends. Our primary home is paid for and has been but we do have a mortgage on our cabin. LUCKILY and by the grace of God, we are in a fixed rate situation but it's still difficult. Did we spread ourselves to thin? Sometimes it is tough but we budget and try to be careful with what we spend. Our payment is nowhere near the $1500 per month mortgages people are talking about - and at that price point with an adjustable RATE - I don't know how people are living.
Also lucky that we do not have credit card debt. I've read where the CC companys are raising limits to increase spending while increasing the payment interest as well? I see more and more credit cards being used at the grocery store.
It's all just very scarey for me.
We have some friends who are building their dream home. They have worked and saved for 15 years. The economy is blessing them in some ways since there are a lot of people looking for work but hurt them in others as the price of materials skyrockets!
Congrats to both of you new homeowners [2008-09-17]
What fun it is to decoratea new home for the holidays (and expensive). Maybe you could talk one of your friends/family into throwing you a housewarming party -- make the theme Christmas decorations.
We I can hardly wait. It Good luck -- hope all goes well!
I totally understand your frustration sm [2008-09-11]
but 900 parents in a timely fashion? I used to sub in a small elementary school (average #of students 200) and it was still a huge headache when there was a problem (schools closing early due to flooding). Most parents of course knew about the flooding because they lived in the area but it was still total chaos. In our area the TV runs a crawl across the bottom of the screen announcing when a school is closing early. I know that we as parents are not responsible for watching TV for in case info, but I think in the case of a fire I am not sure I would want people staying in the building to look at paperwork.
I would also call the superintendent's office or send a letter. [2008-09-11]
I'm sure you will not be the only one to file a complaint. It has not happened yet, but our school says they will call. That's part of the PTO room parent's job is to break down that list and help call. The list isn't necessarily only in the building.
I'm serious [2008-08-20]
It's been 12 years (and a lot of growth) since first marriage.
Looking for pleasant ideas (rather than church or civil building) but not a big deal. Not even sure if having any type of reception but want it to be special.
Thanks for any clever/creative ideas.
Kids, animals and ghosts (sm) [2008-08-06]
When we first moved into our home, our then 2 year-old dog had a habit of chasing us and playfully biting our heels, shifting from heel to heel. One day he did that when there was no one there, chasing his invisible friend all the way to the wall. I used to feel the presence of someone here all the time. In the middle of the night, every night, for years, I would suddenly feel something hit the mattress at the foot of the bed, like someone would walk by and just pat the mattress hard or jump on it (though they couldnwho is that white guy who comes in here at night? This house was built in 1959, the man who built it died in the yard next door, building his daughter His wife lived here for many years after that and passed away in the hospital about a year before we moved in.
I never felt there was any malicious spirit here but it still disturbed me some. One day I walked around he entire house, step by step, carrying aBiblesaying, this house belongs to God in Jesus I also felt the presence of something in the hall and I told it to leave this house, felt it stayed, and said in a very firm voice, NOW! I never felt anything hit the bed again, haven I spent my whole childhood being afraid of ghosts....glad they don't have to feel that way.
I'm tempted to try [2008-07-18]
Turbo Jam. You get a vigorous workout in a short time (20 mins or so). I really can't afford to spend the money right now though.
Sometimes I will watch those infomercials, pick up what I can, and just do it without the video.
Finding a big hill or a building with lots of stairs works really well too. :)
Anyone out there own a HAIER portable washer? - see questions [2008-07-16]
I just bought a Haier portable clothes washer (8.8 pound, top-load model), and a portable dryer too, with my economic stimulus check. Since I've always used laundrymat machines, I'm a little confused about a couple of things not mentioned in the owner's manual.
1 - Dumb question #1: Are you supposed to turn on the water supply at the sink first, and then the poweron button to start the machine, or do you first start the power, and then start the machine?
2 - Okay, here Where do you put the liquid laundry detergent? Theredetergent, but I Also, there is a little thing above that that says detergent dispenser on it. This is confusing, detergent on it, so I don (And although not a domestic goddess, I am quite mechanically-minded and had no trouble assembling the parts and hooking it up.)
I also don or if you first add the detergent, then power it up.
I REALLY don I donkill the poor thing its first day on the job!

Everyone concentrates on the problems weurn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags />Florida ...Not me. I concentrate on solutions for the problems. ItThink about this one: 1. Cows 2..The Constitution 3. The Ten Commandments C O W S Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow. T H E C O N S T I T U T I O N They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq .... Why don C O M M A N D M E N T S The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal,' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians...It creates a hostile work environment.
We're getting new flooring, too [2008-07-10]
Actually, we We We My favorite is berber carpeting and ceramic tile.
First of all, we have 3 kids - so stains are a problem, as well as scratches on a hardwood floor. The house we There are dust bunnies everywhere! I guess you don I sweep 2-3 times a day my entire downstairs. Also, my boys love to play with matchbox cars and I
But some areas of the house require noncarpet flooring, and for those areas, I prefer ceramic tile. Linoleum can tear, especially if moving appliances to clean. Ceramic tile can get expensive, though, and our solution to this was the Durastone tile by Congoleum (I It It comes in tiles and is very durable. We had it in our bathrooms and just loved it. Pricewise, it
As for carpeting, I love, love, love Berber. We The light shows every stain and the dark shows all the white lint/fuzzies, can Because of the texture as well as the color shades, it Depending on the color you get (we Berber is great! Just make sure you get the better quality of padding to go under it, otherwise it'll feel like you're walking on concrete.
Okay, sorry If you can Hope all goes well with your new flooring. Let us know what you decide.

After a few weeks of them coming to our house and pretending to want to play with the boys, we soon realized they were freeloaders -- wanted to eat everything in my fridge (without even asking first) and then wanted to play our computers or video games (without my kids). I put the klinks on that real fast. After that, they started treating my kids like crap. I told my boys as long as they didn Their mom even had the balls to come looking for them 1 night after they didn It was 9 o I couldn
