Pre-hypertension? [2008-02-11]
Okay, they can come up with a label for anything. I pulled out the blood pressure monitor and started taking some readings tonight, and lo and behold, my numbers were around 128/86 with a pulse of around 120. Did I mention the two kids driving me nuts? I normally run about 110/70, so this is a huge jump; could be why my face hurts and could explain all the other symptoms. I googled the numbers and I apparently fall right into that pre-hypertensive range and need to stay on top of this. BUT, would you believe, the minute I came out from putting the boys to bed, I checked my blood pressure again, and it was right back down to 111/78 (pulse was still 96). It's my kids, killing me slow and sure, dragging me to my grave one little crumb-covered finger at a time. Thanks for all the input. I am going to keep checking the BS & BP, writing it all down, and will take it to the DR as soon as I can get in. Y'all have been great supporters! Thanks again.

I have hypertension, but on occasion my bp gets too low...sm [2007-02-26]
from my meds. When my bp gets low, I usually feel very fatigued and have difficulty concentrating and/or staying awake. Mind you, it is not dangerously low. But for me, if Im 110/68 or less, I get feeling fatigued.

mine were related to hypertension [2007-01-01]
I've always had low BP readings, then I'm at a checkup as I had been having very severe abdominal pain for about 4 months. Seems the pain has given me a reactive elevated BP. I went from 110s/70s to 150s/100s in less than 4 months. Now that I'm on antihypertensives, the floaters have gone. We still have not gotten the pain under control, but now I can actually feel my heart rate rise when the pain starts escalating, so I know I need to keep a watch on my BP. My doctor does feel that once my pain is under control (undiagnosed so far - probably stress related), my BP will return to normal and I can come off the meds.

The Stink in Farts Controls Blood Pressure... [2008-10-30]
Amelia TomasLiveScience StaffLiveScience.com amelia Tomaslivescience Stafflivescience.com – Thu Oct 23, 3:21 pm ET A smelly rotten-egg gas in farts controls blood pressure in mice, a new study finds. The unpleasant aroma of the gas, called hydrogen sulfide (H2S), can be a little too familiar, as it is expelled by bacteria living in the human colon and eventually makes its way, well, out. The new research found that cells lining miceno doubt produced in cells lining human blood vessels too, the researchers said. Now that we know hydrogen sulfide said Johns Hopkins neuroscientist Solomon H. Snyder, M.D., a co-author of the study detailed in the Oct. 24th issue of the journal Science. Snyder and his colleagues compared normal mice to mice that were missing a gene for an enzyme known as CSE, long suspected as being responsible for making hydrogen sulfide. As they measured hydrogen sulfide levels taken from tissues of the CSE-deficient mice, the scientists found that the gas was depleted in the cardiovascular systems of the altered mice. By contrast, normal mice had higher levels of the gas, thereby showing that hydrogen sulfide is naturally made by mammalian tissues using CSE. Next, the mice were subjected to higher blood pressures comparable to serious hypertension in humans. Scientists had them respond to a chemical called methacholine that relaxes normal blood vessels. The blood vessels of the CSE-lacking mice hardly relaxed, indicating that hydrogen sulfide is a huge contender for regulating blood pressure. Hydrogen sulfide is the most recently discovered member of a family of gasotransmitters, small molecules inside our bodies with important physiological functions. This study is the first to reveal that the CSE enzyme that triggers hydrogen sulfide is activated itself in the same way as other enzymes when they trigger their respective gasotransmitter, such as a nitric oxide-forming enzyme that also regulates blood pressure, Dr. Snyder said. Because gasotransmitters are common in mammals all over the evolutionary tree, these findings on the importance of hydrogen sulfide are thought to have broad applications to human diseases, such as diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases. The research was supported by grants from the U.S. Public Health Service and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research as well as a Research Scientist Award.

Yes, it is amphetamine, (speed). sm [2008-08-08]
You will lose weight, your body will be jittery, just like you were speeding. You will talk very fast, can't sit still, dry mouth, sometimes pains in your stomach, and when it wears off you will be very very tired. You will lose weight fast, but it is difficult to maintain that loss. I lost 40 pounds in 2 months, and guess what, I gained it back very quickly, even while staying with my exercise routine. Phentermine is very addicting, also. If you have an addicting personality be careful. Personally, I would never take diet pills again. They have a tendancy to cause pulmonary hypertension also and make your teeth brown. Just like a speed freak. I have managed to eat right and exercise routinely, as well as drink at least 10 glasses of water daily, and lost weight and kept it off, years later, after trying phentermine. Every one is different. Maybe it will work well for you and you will not have any side-effects. For me, I was hyper as could be, cleaned my house every day from top to bottom. I didn't know what the heck to do with myself. It was very difficult to sit and get my MT work done. Good luck in whatever you decide. Have you tried that Wii Lu tea (or Wu Li tea) not sure how to spell it. I hear that is the new weight loss thing now.

If I see one more fat person at the store in a motorized shopping cart... [2008-07-30]
with the basket full of crap food....I agree that if you are unhealthy because of your diet, smoking or drinking to excess, you should pay more for your healthcare. Why should I pick up thebill for your high cholesterol, diabetes, hypertension, lung cancer, etc? Studies prove that a change in lifestyle can make a huge difference in the state of your health. Look at how many fat, unhealthy kids we see now tethered to the computer or playstation umbilical cord, eating crap, drinking pop all day and looking pasty because of the lack of sunlight!

Call someone now. [2008-07-17]
I went through the same situation with my father for 8 years (bedridden, dementia, strokes, etc.) and grandfather during those same 8 years and 1 year after that. I got help from my doctor, general practitioner. She is a good listener and knew exactly the direction to guide me for help. I was neglecting my health while taking care of others. I remember one time taking my grandfather to a doctor appointment and asked them to check my blood pressure. It was extremely high and they did not want to let me leave the office. I had to sign a waiver stating that I knew the risks but I also promised to see my physician, which I did immediately. I am now on medications for hypertension, hypothyroidism, depression, and cholesterol. Please take care of yourself now.

daughter [2008-07-16]
do you have younger children; how you handle this is a learning curve for them. Your first loyalty is to your husband, agree with all the other posters to tell him. don't let her wiggle herself between the two of you or hold you an emotional hostage. You may have to deal with her leaving so be prepared for that. and yes, I have gone through it. My daughter that I spent so much time with hid very successfully she had been drinking for 2 years before I found out and I lost that battle. At 30 she had untreated hypertension and developed a severe headache and walked into an ER. That was the last time she walked 3 years ago. MRI did not show the pontine infarct until too late to treat it. She is now a prisoner in her own body fully cognizant, in a nursing home. She who do swim, dive beautifully, ride and show horses, dance like a champ. your job as a parent is just as everyone else said, not to be her buddy, but teach her whatever hard lessons she needs to learn so that she will grow up to be a self-sufficient person who can take care of herself. I wish you all the luck in the world. It is far from easy.

By the new rules [2008-01-30]
thebp is a bit high. The diastolic isn't too bad, but the systolic is high and might need meds to control it. It's the top number that generally gets high if you're under stress. As for the migraine, who is to say it wasn't the body warning of impending hypertension?

P.S. - I'm not a doctor or anything remotely related. I have very [2008-01-29]
severe hypertension myself and have discussed all this extensively with my doctor.

I found out something about black licorce [2008-01-24]
My mother told to not eat because it could elevate her blood pressure and 1 time I typed on person in the hospital, hypertension. The attendants could not figure out why as he was on medications, etc. and come to find out his family bringing him licorce which he then was told to cut out. Strange, huh?

Oh No! [2008-01-24]
Bad news for me, I already have hypertension. Thanks for posting you might have saved me a lot of grief.

It IS NOT a disease. The use of it causes disease but [2007-12-17]
alcoholism in itself is not a disease. My husband was also predisposed to it by *genetics* (his mother and father were also alcoholics). He should have had better sense than to ever pick up the first drink, but he didn Now, for the rest of his life he will have to battle with the fact that he is an alcoholic (albeit, a recovering alcoholic). He CHOSE to drink. He CHOSE to take the chance and it caught up with him. It That If one is predisposed to something harmful, they need to take control of themselves and stay away from whatever causes the problems associated with it. Both of my parents are diabetics, so that predisposes me to diabetes. They are both hypertensive (as amI). Ihypertension to blossom into something much more serious. The predisposition to alcoholism has to be handled the same way. STAY AWAY FROM IT!!!!!

That seems to be debatable even in the medical field. Disease or not disease? [2007-12-17]
things that could lead to diabetes and hypertension are true, they are still diseases and could obviously occur with or without staying away from known causes. But for you to come here and say alcholism is NOT a disease is a little extreme and maybe should have been accompanied by IMO? That is my opinion anyway.

side effects [2007-12-03]
Does anyone know it the Hoodia causes any side effects or if it affects blood pressure? I have both diabetes and hypertension and have to be careful what I take. Should be extra diligent in what I eat, but if I was I wouldn Am really interested in learning about this. Need to lose a LOT of weight for health reasons, as well as clothes shopping. TIA

Thanks for all of the nice responses! [2007-11-24]
I have really no major medical problems with diabetes or hypertension. I am lucky in that sense. I just feel like I got started off on the wrong foot by being so heavy. I feel like I am doing something cruel to my baby. I have major issues with my weight and it is so hard right now, especially being pregnant. I guess I just need to try to work on it but it has been like this for years and I just don't see how I am going to change it overnight. But I really do appreciate all of the responses and I will keep everyone updated! Thank you all! It has meant a lot to me!

Would you consider this the same as above? [2006-12-03]
PAST MEDICAL HISTORY *Significant for* hypertension, congestive heart failure and diabetes. PAST SURGICAL HISTORY *Significant for* hysterectomy, appendectomy and hernia repair.

No, talking about when they are listed with numbers. [2006-12-03]
But I don't like this: PAST MEDICAL HISTORY: *Is* significant for hypertension.... LOL

question..... [2006-12-02]
Why do some MTs type stuff like this......... MEDICATIONS 1. *Include* Zocor. 2. Ambien. or MEDICATIONS *Include:* 1. Zocor. 2. Ambien. Or FAMILY HISTORY: *Is* unremarkable. And I don If MD said diagnoses are hypertension and CHF would you type: DIAGNOSES 1. Are hypertension. 2. Congestive heart failure. or DIAGNOSESAre: 1. Hypertension. 2. Congestive heart failure. Just wondering?

I would type [2006-12-02]
MEDICATIONS: Zocor and Ambien. OR MEDICATIONS 1. Zocor 2. Ambien And DIAGNOSES: Hypertension and chronic heart failure. OR DIAGNOSES 1. Hypertension. 2. Chronic heart failure. Depending on which looked better in relation to the rest of the report. But that's just me. :-)
