She's right....... a little behind the scenes coaching [2008-06-05]
I gave my husband little bits he could use with our daughter when she was little, basically because his dad was not nice to his sisters at all and my husband loved his little girl but didnstuff. He might really be open to hearing some suggestion without EVER letting him know the diary business...he might inadvertantly let the cat out of the bag. Heideas about how to talk or things he can do with his daughter. My daughter adores her dad...she's now 25 years old. He was always a pushover for her and still is. His little girl!

Many movies on cable have scenes deleted SM [2008-04-13]
for one reason or another. I don't like it either. Look, I'm liberal, so I agree with PC of deleting scene, but also agree with your point about censorship. That movie was funny, as, ahem, heck.

I coach softball and my favorite gift was a sweatshift with photo of the team and all the kids signe [2008-10-13]
They signed it in some kind of indelible ink which is great because I actually wear it all the time. I also got a plaque that looks just like the shirt, which is nice to have because I'm sure I'll wear out the sweatshirt. I love them and feel proud when I wear the shirt. We were champs of the league and the district and for a couple months after the season we were all kind of local celebrities! I played at a high level myself traveling all over Italy and Japan, but coaching this group was the best experience of my athletic career.

Update [2008-06-01]
Some of you may recall a few weeks ago when I posted about getting into a verbal altercation with the mother of a child on the opposing team. I just wanted to give those of you who commented an update. We played that team again yesterday and the mother was there standing where I normally stand. I chose this time to stand on the opposite side of the field, even though my view was a little obstructed. I said nothing to her the entire game and didn I took your advice and kept my mouth shut. We lost the game, but that's okay because I had the chance firsthand to see the embarrassment a child suffers when parents get out of control Earlier this week, it was team picture night. The mother of the child on the opposing team was there, as was her husband who is one of the assistant coaches for their team. He made a nasty comment about the manager of his own team (using 4-letter words in front of the team) because the manager didnfired him from his assistant coaching position. So instead of just his mom standing in my usual spot, his dad was there, too. I can only imagine the embarrassment their child must have felt because his dad was not on the field. I know now that my actions could have caused me to be suspended from even watching a game or 2. I wouldn So thanks to all for your good advice. I have spent the last several weeks videotaping my kids rather than worrying about who

GOod for you! [2008-06-01]
Iscenes that you just could not believe, even with police being called in. It was disgusting behavior from the ADULTS!! Shame on them. There will always be bad calls, bad umps, bad refs, dirty players, both losses as well as wins but being part of a team and learning good sportsmanship and dealing with those things in a level headed way are what build character in your son, so I commend you!

and I promise you it is not all bad. Some of the things my kids come home and tell still shock me, even in this day and age, but I am fortunate that my kids are involved in many activities, have wonderful Christian friends, and we are a very close family. There was a girl (a senior) recently telling everyone she pregnant and was keeping the baby. She has a very prominent father. About a week later she said she made it all up. I do understand no matter what kind of family life she has (a good one) girls do unexpectedly find themselves pregnant, but I tend to wander if something was done about the pregnancy and she was told to tell everyone she made it up. I also canmajor mistakes. I know mistakes are going to happen, how else will they learn, but I can't help but wonder if I am fooling myself sometimes. Sorry so long. I still hope you call the school.

Kids and money for school things...sm [2008-01-30]
Here is it is.... January 30th and since January 1st I've been asked by my 16-year-old for: $90 for a graphing calculator for the calculus class $85 for school yearbook (and price goes up 2/1 by $15..she didn't tell me any of this until now) $30 for hoodie for yearbook club $15 for drama t-shirt for spring production... which she has exactly 2 lines in and will not be on the stage any other time. Total: $220. I bought the calculator as it was necessary and I know she I For the shirts I The drama team is also looking to possibly go to New York for a few days to take in showsin May and gosh only knows what that would cost... if it gets approved. She doesnsays if she gets a part-time job then she can't do the drama production as they practice 3 days a week until 8 p.m. .... well hello she has only 2 lines in it and isn't even in any other scenes. I told her to get a job or start offering to babysit for money. Ishe stepped on something at some point and messed herself up)and medical bills are coming in from my husband I'm not going to pay for her to go to New York either when that would probably take out entire family vacation money for the summer. Once those numbers come in we'll offer to pay a portion of the cost but that's it. She also insists she wants to go to college out of state, and her dad and I have also told her she has to figure out how to pay for that because we She doesn I told her that it

another take on this [2007-12-16]
Cars and plasma TVs are in demand, right? These people can sell them and have money, good money, right away. Maybe their extended family and friends can come up with the money for the taxfor the car. At least they have a car if they can find a way to pay that tax. Another reasonwhy they were given as gifts -- If he and Oprah handed out cash, everyone would want at least some. But if you get a material item like a car or TV we all know not everyone gets them, they are like a prize, and so thereI want one too! like there would be if these hosts were giving out cash. Also, there might be a good tax writeoff that would apply to material goods and not cash, etc. so it might have been done for legal reasons. Again, the hosts cannot build homes for everyone. Please don They have extremely smart lawyers on their staff. They know exactly what they are doing and I believe both of them have all but the best of intentions. And third and most important, a homeless person NEEDS a cell phone. I I No charge ever. But I needed the phone with me at all times because I was being stalked and I needed to be able to call the cops. When you You need to be able to stay in touch. Pay phones are NOT cheap when you have lost everything. I applaud him for giving cell phones especially. AND, this is what you saw on TV. Lots of stuff happens behind the scenes. Ithe famous person doesnwant to be inundated with requests and have to determine who is being truthful, etc.

I understand where you're coming from... [2007-11-30]
for people to be helpful in a positive way and not judgmental, after all it does and can affect anybody. But, I still think the best approach is through the school system, school nurse, other services, etc. I know at our school they were reluctant even admitting to me that there was a problem and had never sent out notes alerting parents before I talked to them because of privacy, and as I said, I don In fact, the teacher probably should not have told me who, specifically, had the recurrent problem. I think it might be okay to contact a parent if you know them personally as a friend, but just tocontact someone that you are not close to, no matter how good the intentions and tactfully presented, that you understand there all other kind of issues. Coming from a family with a dad as a school administrator, you wouldnits doors for I think a week or two, it was so rampant, so people could try and get control of it. I think it would be okay for the school nurse or administration to offer avenues for assistance and ask if the family would like help from others. It really can be a pesistant bugger to control if the parents don I am an MT, but wasn I think we Good luck in nursing school! From what I saw (almost switched to nursing when I was in college) itand physically drainingwork, but can be one of the most rewarding careers out there I think...I was a nurse aide in ICU/CCU on the graveyard shift in college and there were plenty of tears shed behind the scenes and also some great happy endings!

N/T this season [2007-11-02]
I'm not sure if Carly will be a regular or not. I would imagine she'll be on at least a few more episodes. I felt so bad when Christian did the lipstick thing. Still loving Christian, but I definitely didn't like the things he did last week. He's just jealous of Sean or at least that's the way I see it. I did love the scenes with he and Wilbur though, so cute.

How about a hope chest? [2007-10-05]
My sister-in-law had a fiance who was really into woodworking. He built and carved a beautiful hope chest/blanket box for her and even placed the engagement ring in it. As I recall, he carved some of her favorite flowers, and even carved in scenes from some of their favorite places, and of course, their intertwined initials. It was really lovely.

Strangest things? hmmm. Vintage Turkey Basters [2007-10-03]
Yup, sounds weird I know. It started with one of my grandmothers from the 1940s or 50's. They are glass with the rubber bulb on the end, but the reason why I like them is because of the interesting packaging tube they come in.. Vintage ads PYREX, etc. Usually with a picture of a big Juicy Turkey, etc. I like the coloring too, kind of primary colors but sort of faded with age. Got three of them right now displayed on top of my kitchen cabinets, along with a BUNCH of roosters (way too many), also collect antique crocks. I also have about 50 Vernon Kilnz (sp?) plates, the kind with scenes from different states, etc. They sort of tell a story about each place. Once had an idea I would do a bed and breakfast someday and use them, so they just sit in the cupboard, all lonely, etc. Yup, if I see any of these things at the flea market or antique shops, I pick'em up, it's like a compulsion or something... just can't help myself.

I love this show. [2007-08-14]
It is interesting to me how the views change regarding this show in respect to poligamist themselves. Just from different interviews about this show. Some say the heated scenes donwe are human too. Surely there has to be. Nicki cracks me up playing them all against each other. I think Chloe Sevigny is just a mess. This roll was made for her.

I think the main idea [2007-05-12]
was to provide a separate area so that they would not be using the sinks. Would you rather have that? And with the appalling handling of our taxpayers' money in Iraq not to mention pretty much everywhere else, are you really going to focus on footh baths? And how do you figure foot baths are at the expense of our country's safety??? And btw, people ARE allowed to put up nativity scenes at Christmas, as long as other faiths are represented too. I am wondering if it is just that this is a Muslim thing that is bugging you or is it all faiths? If this was something to do with the Christian faith I wonder if anyone would even notice it.

I thought Melinda Doolittle looked mah-vah-lus dah-ling but the song/singing was not up to her best. Loved what she had to say about giving Simon a chance to say something bad. Good to see her speaking up!! Also am tired of Haley And Sanjaya!!!! Thought he was really good, dawg (as Randy would say). He sure played the camera. I do think he has some extra coaching going on. All those young girls (and guys too) will be voting for him as fast as their fingers can fly. Phil But I love him because he is in the Navy and my husband and son are both Navy vets. I think Haley will be off tonight.

If that's what they're doing ... [2007-03-29]
it's fine with me. I thought it was interesting, but different that we suddenly focused on 2 characters I didn't remember. But there they were in scenes from the past that I did remember, LOL.

if the mgr. wouldnindoor voices, keep our napkin in our lap & our elbows off the table, and eat with the correct forks, etc. And in fancy restaurants, we were trained beforehand that we were NOT allowed to even ASK for a hamburger. That alone prevents many restaurant-meltdown scenes!

On a cold wintery night . . . [2006-12-23]
the night my mother was buried. My daughter and I came for her funeral. That night we slept in her bedroom, her bed. I closed my eyes and tried to sleep, but I kept seeing these images, like flashing, scenes of people and neighborhoods, going very quickly and changing. You know how people say their life flashed before their eyes, it was like that. My daughter said do you think Grandma is here. I immediately said yes. Turns out she was having the same experience. We started talking to my mom. We weren't scared, we felt that she was the one who was scared. Maybe she didn't know what to do or something. We told her what a great mom she was and she had to go to her next destination, that we were all okay. Then it was just over. It was nothing tangible, very subtle, but I'll never forget it. I've watched some of these shows but never heard of anyone experience anything like this or an explanation for it. It was almost like we were seeing her memories.

I just pulled mine out of private school - sm [2006-11-30]
It's not all that it is cracked up to be. Our one local one that is not affliated with a church is $6K a year per kid (we have 2), plus an extra $100 a month they squeeze out of you for all sorts of stuff. The other schools in town were half the price but all were church schools which we did not want. So that is an aspect you need to look into if you chose to go private. Also the quality of the teachers, are they all certified, etc. We had a headmaster that lied to the parents and the schoolboard on a regular basis, last year he raised tuition $400 a kid, and shortly after that about 7 teachers/aids quit for various reasons, and in all this I dug up a ton of dirt and things behind the scenes that totally stunk, hence kids now go to public school. Class size is the same for us (19) and the discipline is so much better at the public school. A girl in my one daughter's former class is the class bully and at least once a year tries to choke another classmate, has she ever been suspended? NO. Has she ever been expelled? NO. 2 reasons, they school wants the money no matter what, and the kid's mother is an alumni. So not all kids at private school are well behaved angels. They expect a lot from the kids, but I think this particular school is overpriced unfortunately. ------my other daughter is also in 1st grade. She is struggling terribly in reading, though I take blame for some of that as I am very guilty of not reading to her on a regular basis. I am trying to get better at this, and her teacher at school reads with the kids one-on-one to check on their status. My daughter is slowly improving through her and my efforts. On every other level she is average. She cannot add in her head as yet, but I think that is a little advanced for a 6-y/o. She can do simple math on paper and is doing fine with that. ---If you chose to keep her in the public school (and I would because they have lots of resources that most private schools do not have, our private school had no special services at all despite the high tuition), pick up the slack at home, work on whatever subject she is weak on every night for 15 minutes. I do this with my 8-y/o in 3rd grade math, which is her weak subject, and it has made a huge difference. I am also reading with my other daughter at least 3 x a week (need to do 5 though) and it has helped a lot now. Reading a simple 12 page book used to take 45 mintues, now we can do it in about 10-15. --- It is hard to fit this into my schedule but I know I have to do it so they will improve and eventually excel. You just need to figure out what you daughter needs to do, what you need to do to help her reach that goal, go slow though and don't set the bar so high that she will never reach it.
