Asthma info [2008-11-08]
So I haven Something I have just been thinking about recently and thought this might be a good place to start. Who knows, maybe someone here has looked into this topic before and can give me some good info. or starting place. :) I have had asthma since early childhood. My mother was recently diagnosed with it for the first time in her late 50s. I am wondering if there is a genetic/hereditary link (or possibility of) and it is something that I should keep in mind with my children. I had always thought it was more due to environmental with me but now I wonder if there could be more to it with my mom being diagnosed. I also have pretty severe allergies and my niece was diagnosed with the same, both of us at the age of 3.

I recently received info [2008-10-31]
on ViaCord from registering at Babys R Us. I have heard of them before but not participated in such a thing myself. I'm sure they have information online or you could drop by any store and pick up a brochure. I have received it from other places too and this is the only one that I receive.

Very interesting. thanks so much for that info!! [2008-10-27]

Thanks. I got info from 2 [2008-10-26]
credit companies but I must have answered wrong on another as it told me it was goingto mail me something. My take was that it did not believe I was who I was. Anyway, I have 3 negs. Unfortunately the oldest won Seems like a lifetime away. Also, 2003, when it happened seems like a lifetime ago. LOL. I have never had any foreclosures, repos, bankrupsies, just payments over 30 days late. I kind of worry now if I would ever be able to buy a car or house with that. I don I don

Thanks for the info. [2008-10-21]
I heard the unplug thing on the radio, several times. It wasn't just a talk show but like a public service announcement format so I thought it was legit. They didn't say anything about lights on the appliance but that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

Where do you go for this info? [2008-08-24]
I have been doing research and I found my grandfather's family that I had been told we all deceased, but I have a really hard time finding information. WOuld you mind sharing what resources you use to find things? I would really like to research more but I end up frustrated that I can't find anything. They always tell me there's stuff but then they want more and more money and I don't know how to research without spending a pretty nickel.

Need fibromyalgia info. [2008-08-09]
I know a lady who was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia. She has been suffering for well over a year and now almost two years. She has yet to break the pain cycle and feels that nothing will help her. She currently spends most of her time in bed. I just wanted to know if there were any tips or treatments that have worked for people with fibromyalgia that might help her too. So any information, books, etc. that you are willing to share would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

First, her name is Dixie Lucille...she's precious! Second, I am in no way expecting her to be fully potty trained by now, my thing is she poops in her kennel, then gets it all over herself. She goes out at least every hour on the hour. She eats at 7, 12, and 5 every day, then goes out to potty, walk, etc. We did not get her from a *breeder* per se, a neighbor had pups so we got one from her. She was kept outside when she was with her family. We do the whole praise and treat thing when she goes outside. We play with her, we walk her regularly...I am a bit impatient by nature, guess that's something I need to work on. Anyway, thanks for all the advice. I My DH always wanted a Basset, so held out until he found one. She I'll keep y'all posted on her (and my) progress!

Can anyone help me with info regading setting up a service? [2008-06-10]
I am at a point in my life/marriage, where I need to start my own service rather than working as an IC. I need info/guidance on getting my own FTP site, whether I need to provide a system for docs to dictate to (handhelds?) etc. If anyone would be willing to help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Info on stimulus payment... [2008-05-09]
I looked on irs.gov and looked under where is my stimulus payment. It said if you did not send you taxes off until April 15 or close to April 15 you taxes weren't late but the taxes weren't processed by April 15. So you will not get your payment on that date on the schedule. It can be up to 6 weeks later. I mailed mine on April 15 so that is why I didn't get it today.

thanks for this info! nm [2008-05-04]

Odenton Maryland/Virginia Beach Va info needed. [2008-04-01]
Hey everyone. Hope you are all doing well. We are scheduled for a vacation here in the next few weeks (business trip for hubby that we are turning into a vacation), and are going to be in the Odenton, Maryland area and then the Virginia Beach area. If anyone is familiar with those areas, here is what I am curious about. - In Odenton - book stores, yarn shops, fabric shops, flea markets, etc. Obviously I have to do something to keep myself busy while he works for a couple of days, lol. - In VA beach, a nice spot to picnic on the beach/near the beach that also has nearby access to a decent public restroom. I know, sounds strange, but I have a health condition....anyhow. Thanks in advance for info and advice. HC

Thyroid Nodule - Questions/Info?? [2008-03-27]
Two weeks ago I had a physical and my doc felt a lump on my thyroid. She sent me for an ultrasound one week ago to check it out. Yesterday, the nurse called and said that I have a 2 cm solid mass on my thyroid and my doc wants me to see an endocrinologist. Does anyone have experience with this? I don't have any health problems. Always get my thyroid checked every year and it's always fine. I'm not overweight or underweight, so not sure what this means. The nurse made a couple of comments that worried me a little though. She mentioned that the endocrinologist doesn't have a very good bedside manner, but he's an excellent doc?? Also, he was able to get me in on Tuesday, which seems very quick for a specialist appt. I don't have any experience with endocrinology, so maybe this is normal for them to see patients faster?? Surely though they wouldn't really be able to tell much from an ultrasound right? I would need to get a biopsy before they knew if it was more than a nodule? I know I'm probably just freaking myself out a bit, but if anyone has any personal or professional experience with thyroid nodules and/or endocrinology, it would be great to hear from you! Thanks!

Thank you so much for the info..sm [2008-02-20]
This little one is just a sweetheart! She is an absolute doll. I just feel so bad for her when she cries and cries. When we first brought her home she was given an anxiety medication to help her calm down and to help her deal with the coughing. She would cough so much she would get out of breath and then couldnt get enough air in. At one point she was in ICU for respiratory distress. We have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and he just loves his basset sister! He is always trying to love her and make her feel beter and they sleep together all the time. My daughter made a sign over their pet bed that says King Monroe and Queen Zoey sleeps here! Anyway, thanks for the info. I appreciate it!!

Thanks for all the info cat, unfortunately [2008-02-20]
it is snowing here and the entire sky is gray. I doubt we will get to see anything but we are certainly going to try.

Thanls for the good info, Cat, I thought [2008-02-20]
it was last night, had my grandson out there, was real clear, then I got the right date....Duh Grandma tried, we will try it again tonight!

Google

They are doing an early Black Friday sale now online! [2008-11-25]
There is a website that shows all the Black Friday ads and also shows which ones are online now, or will be on Friday. Most stores are doing the same sales online now. Just Google black friday info

I'm a virgin, help a first timer out .. [2008-11-21]
BLACK FRIDAY Shopper's!!!! Ive NEVER in my life shopped on Black Friday, it used to be of no interest, then it got interesting for awhile, but DH hated the idea and I dont shop without him unless I absolutely have to and/or dying to get out, and now the interest is back with DH on my side! So I am excited, or should I be frightened, is it a true mad house? I need some tips and info. Do you have any tips for a 1st Timer?? What time do you get at the store? Do you have to get a coupon or something to be allowed IN? If so, where do you get these coupons? What time do stores typically open? What times do they take the sale prices down, is it usually an all day thing, or an end at lunch type of thing? And most important of all. I am a fan of the old fashioned way..... newspaper ads to see who has what deal. Where do you get this? Does it come out THIS Weekend or on Thanksgiving Day?? Thanks so much!!!!

I agree ... an idea [2008-11-14]
I think it might be better to just tell the story of the real St. Nicholas who was so generous (Google for specific info on him) and tell your child that in remembrance of his special generosity, you will give some presents in his name (and can still call him the evolved Santa name). That way, there is still some special mystery feeling involved but no lies! My 2nd child really got upset too and so did my nephews. It seems it can teach a child to not trust even his/her own parents when going the old route with the whole Santa thing.

CDC & Gardasil.....sm [2008-11-12]
I was reading the posts below about the vaccine as I had been considering it for my daughter. I looked it up on the CDC website. They deemed it safe and effective. And I do agree with one of the posters, it should be the parent/daughter Not the state It Here I did leave out a few small paragraphs so this post wouldn't be excessively long but if you'd like to go to the site here's the address: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/vaers/gardasil.htm Reports of Health Concerns Following HPV Vaccination HPV Vaccine Safety The safety of the HPV vaccine was studied in 7 clinical trials before it was licensed. There were over 21,000 girls and women ages 9 through 26 in these clinical trials. As of August 31, 2008, there have been 10,326 VAERS reports of adverse events following Gardasil vaccination in the United States. Of these reports, 94% were reports of events considered to be non-serious, and 6% were reports of events considered to be serious. Based on all of the information we have today, CDC and FDA have determined that Gardasil is safe to use and effective in preventing 4 types of HPV. As with all approved vaccines, CDC and FDA will continue to closely monitor the safety of Gardasil. Any problems detected with this vaccine will be reported to health officials, healthcare providers, and the public, and needed action will be taken to ensure the public's health and safety. Non-serious adverse event reports The vast majority (94%) of the adverse events reports following Gardasil have been non-serious. Reports of non-serious adverse events after Gardasil vaccination have included fainting, pain and swelling at the injection site (the arm), headache, nausea and fever. Fainting is common after injections and vaccinations, especially in adolescents. Falls after fainting may sometimes cause serious injuries, such as head injuries, which can be easily prevented by keeping the vaccinated person seated for up to 15 minutes after vaccination. Serious adverse event reports All serious reports (6%) for Gardasil have been carefully analyzed by medical experts. Experts have not found a common medical pattern to the reports of serious adverse events reported for Gardasil that would suggest that they were caused by the vaccine. The following is a summary of the serious adverse event reports that were submitted to VAERS between June 8, 2006 and August 31, 2008.

Thank you for answering me. I [2008-11-11]
had just read an article in the August Reader's Digest about a man being treated for throat cancer, stage IV. The name is The Farther Shore by Stephen Reynolds, in his 40's. There is an insert in the article that might interest you. HPV and You While few people with HPV get oral cancer, the number is likely to keep rising, says Maura Gillison, M.D., of Johns Hopkins. 20 million Americans are infected, with 6.2 million new cases each year. So far, there is no cure and just one test and only to detect HPV in a woman's cervix. Only a biopsy can tell whether an oral cancer is linked to HPV, but a test to spot high-risk oral infection in men and women and a vaccine for men are both in the works. What you need to know: Most people with HPV infections don't have any symptoms. At least half of sexually active men and women may become infected in their lifetimes. About 23% of women ages 14 to 65 have high-risk HPV, including 35% of 14 to 19 year old girls. Gardasil protects against up to 70% of the HPV types that cause cervical cancer, but it is unknown if the vaccine protects against oral infection in men or women. While most infections clear up on their own without patients ever knowing they were exposed, the consequences can still be severe. For instance, one type of HPV raises the risk of oral cancer of 3,200 percent. The virus speads through any form of sexual activity, and condoms can't fully protect against it. Having more than 5 oral sex partners boosts the risks of HPV linked oral cancer by 340 percent. Sorry this was so long, but this is the most info I have seen on this and the numbers are, I think, staggering. I notice it does not address the vaccine in Australia you mentioned.

PitBull's are misunderstood... [2008-11-09]
Instead offocusing narrowly on only your dislike of PitBulls, why don't you look at the bigger picture as a whole... First of all, the statistics on fatal attacks...well it doesn But that still doesn't mean PitBulls are more likely to bite... The statistics that I have read regarding breed specific likelyhood of biting have shown that small dogs (and mixbreeds) are way more likely to be aggressive towards humans and other dogs. Specifically Dachshunds, Chihuahuas, and Jack Russell Terriers to name a few. PitBulls were more likely to show aggression to unfamiliar dogs. I_udi=B6T48-4SNGRDR-2_user=10_coverDate=06%2F03%2F2008_alid=765300851_rdoc=2_fmt=high_orig=search_cdi=4968_sort=d_docanchor=view=c_ct=27_acct=C000050221_version=1_urlVersion=0_userid=10md5=a9e7d67a2a45dc01019b232cbbfa3bf5 Here are some other good points from websites that are unbiased: To reduce the number of dog bite-related injuries, adults and children should be educated about bite prevention, and persons with canine pets should practice responsible pet ownership. (CDC website) “While at times informative, statistics on fatal dog attacks can also be misleading. For example, a number of cases where a Pit Bull, Rottweiler or German Shepherd Dog were counted as causing a human fatality, in reality the direct result was from gross human negligence or criminal intent”. (http://www.thedogpress.com/Columns/Jade/07_Dog.Bite.Stats_09.htm) A fatal dog attack is not just a dog bite by a big or aggressive dog. It is usually a perfect storm of bad human-canine interactions -- the wrong dog, the wrong background, the wrong history in the hands of the wrong person in the wrong environmental situation. (Malcolm Gladwell, Troublemakers - What pit bulls can teach us about profiling, The New Yorker, Feb. 6, 2006.) www.dogbitelaw.com/PAGES/breedlaws.html Our Country was not founded on the restriction and punishment of the masses based on the actions of a few. Focusing legislation on dogs that are vicious distracts attention from the real problem, which is irresponsible owners. These very breeds as a whole have proven their stability and good canine citizenry by becoming Rescue' dogs, Therapy dogs working inside hospitals, professional Herding dogs and family companions for years. Banning the so-called dangerous breed will merely hasten the upswing in popularity of some other breed that will be used for vicious attacks on people and other animals. There is no valid reason to deprive animal lovers of their well behaved pets. The reports and statistics are flawed. Among other things, a dog bite victim is usually unable to identify the breed of dog that bit him or her. Therefore, victims will name the type of dog that currently is on people's minds as being the dangerous dog. (From the Animal Farm Foundation.) One more thing, the best K-9 drug searching dog in America is a PitBull...his name is Popsicle because he was rescued from a man who tried to kill him by putting him in a freezer. -Cindy, owner of 1 PitBull (Zeus) and 2 Beagles (Max Osiris)...and yes they do get along!

I'm sorry [2008-11-08]
I didn't mean to make you feel like your opinion wasn't wanted or valid. Like you said, I believe the OP wanted both sides, just discussing an alternate view point and really looking for more info on your point of view. It's good to have info from people that have different ideas. Something like dosing is not something I have thought about and it completely makes sense. I believe as part of the vote it stated that growing it yourself, for medical reasons, would also be legal - unless I am remembering incorrectly and someone please feel free to correct me. That would bring a valid point of dosing and if you have family members whose to say they aren't going to take a little here and there without medical necessity. Overall I am basically just speaking from experience of watching a family member die of cancer and take all the meds possible without relief and often wondered if this would have been a viable option for their comfort. Had I known where to get it, I probably would have gotten it for them illegally - but I would have had no clue where to begin with such a search. Yes, that's a lot of emotion going in to a big decision but I think emotion is a big part of medical treatment too.

Thanks - see message [2008-11-05]
My kitchen smells wonderful right now - :-) I was thinking of using the crockpot but instead have a large kettle I'm simmering it in. After I posted the message I read the package and - ding! Low and behold it said simmer 2-1/2 to 3 hours, but like your message think its going to take 4, 5 or even 6 hours. Thanks for the info about how to tell if its done. That's something I didn't know. So tonight we may be snacking and tomorrow night it will be corned beef with steamed cabbage, carrots, and baby white potatos.

FURTHERMORE (I should NOT have started . . .) [2008-11-04]
The cardiologists and hospitalists that took care of my mother quite appreciated that I knew her baseline EF, that she had chf, and could give a very detailed medical history to them and knew what they were talking about when my mother could not give them that info last summer . . . AND when I mentioned to my doc one time that I thought I had restless leg syndrome (which yea, I did) during my pregnancy he said, how So it just depends on who ya talk to.

To whoever emailed me.... [2008-10-31]
I tried to email you, but the email came back as undeliverable. I don't know a whole lot about ferrets. We inherited this one, but there is a lot of info on the net. I do know that if you get one and let it out of the cage, put it on a harness or hold on to it, or you will have a heck of a time catching it. lol I know some people do not cage them and let them run loose in their house. That's not possible for us, but we do get her out of the cage and play with her.

berry or fruit juice for diets sm [2008-10-29]
Heard the free trial offer for the acai berry (sp) on line is a farce because once you give all the info and agree to the low shipping charge, you are locked into an automatic charge to your credit card of 80 plus dollars. If you try to contact them, the phone number provided is non-operational and you are stuck. Is this berry product available in retail stores? Also, anyone find any pomegrant (sp) juice helpful and who has the best price on it? Need to lose some winter weight and it's not even winter yet. Kind of hard when you sit all day - I know, I know - diet and exercise! Told by my cardiologist to walk but recuperating from surgery, so not that active. TIA

Thanks for your suggestions....I do need to get some (sm) [2008-10-24]
good info and some exercise. Also I know you are right that getting up and getting a shower first thing would help me tremendously. I always fit my shower in sometime during the day but when I worked outside my home and took one first thing it always made me feel better.

Help - some may not agree, but I think we should bring back the recipe board to help us through winter. Thanks so much for your input!!!

Does anyone make beaded jewelry? [2008-10-19]
I am interested in making beaded jewelry but not sure where to start. Do any of you make beaded jewelry? If so, where do you find the best prices for beads? Do you make jewelry to sell or just for fun? Thanks for the info.

I use checks, but have streamlined the process - sm [2008-10-11]
by filling out everything but the amount (date, signature, phone number) on the check, & entering all info. into my check register except the amount, before even leaving for the store. Check is torn out, and in my wallet where I can just pull it out, write in the total, hand it to the cashier, and take off as soon as she gives me the receipt. Nowadays their computer/cash machine setup takes only seconds to verify the check. I usually wait to fill in the amount in the check register until I get home. It's weird, but often I find it takes longer to pay with money than it does with a check. (Especially if I have a bunch of change and I'm trying to pay with the exact amount.) That seems to freak people out in line even more than using a check. Also, nowadays the checker ends up doing the bagging, too (seems the stores have cut WAY back on hiring baggers.) So as he or she finishes each bag, I put it in the cart from where I'm standing, so he or she doesn't have to walk around the counter to do it. And I grab things like milk jugs, big 12-pack soft-drink cartons, cat litter, and other big things that don't really need a bag. Anyway, I find doing just those few things seems to get me through the line pretty fast.

Anyone with anemia and hair loss? [2008-10-01]
The reason I ask is because I have been having hair loss and the doctor just told me I am slightly anemic. I now have to take iron and I am trying to get more info from anyone who has this? I also have a hiatal hernia, that probably needs to be fixed, and googling this stuff, it could be all related... Any info from anyone that has experience with this is appreciated!

Air Force question... [2008-09-24]
OK, my son has decided to join the AF...he's been through MEPS, all that, and is due to sign his contract today...however, last night we find out that the job he wants (security forces) gets deployed...not to war zones...all the time. They are on deployment an average of 180 days a year, so we have been told. I'm asking y'all if anyone here has had any firsthand experience with this and if so, is this what my son can expect? I've googled it, of course, but come up with conflicting information. I need firsthand info, if it's out there...I'd appreciate so much anyone sharing anything they know about this!!!

Had all 3 and Dish is my fav!!! [2008-09-20]
Cable in our area stinks. Direct was better than cable, but not near as good as Dish. The options available on Dish are so much better than Direct. Little things, like being able to check the guide while still watching a show and looking up the info on another program and how far ahead you can check the schedules. It They are by far the best.

No ideas but I like to [2008-09-19]
and when I hear about a nice place to visit I go online to try to find their city website or visitor's and convention bureau. Many of these will allow you to get on a mail list and send you tons of free info, brochures, MAPS, and COUPONS! I have family that lived in FL, but just moved back, and I had been collecting a lot of info for those areas in hopes of planning a trip to see them next spring so I know there is a ton of info for Florida. You just have to do some research and visit a lot of websites and give yourself time to get the info in the mail. Even did it for my local surrounding areas where I live and was amazed at what I found. Oh, and if you do think of camping go to the coleman website and those for other camping gear and many times they have checklists and such that you can download. Makes live MUCH easier, especially for first timers.

As I stated before, if you knew what [2008-09-18]
the emails said, you would think differently about the whole situation. I have told her to not contact me if she isn't getting the kind of response she thinks she deserves or wants. It is not my place to give her any info about her bio dad. If she found me, she can find him. I have no right to allow her to disrupt his life, just as she has no right to disrupt mine if I don't want her to. Again, so sorry if I don't come across as the loving, nurturing mommy type to you. Is your life unfulfilled, because if so, I'll give you her number!
