Unbelievable sm [2008-07-02]
$87 was all they planned to give us. Her medical bills totalled $800, $87 was our portion. The other portion we figured for pain and suffering. We always wanted to getpain and suffering for our daughter. This was no surprise to the owner.
Read the thread. I don My daughter was standing on the sidewalk in front ofthe ownerhouse when the dog attacked her.
Again, if you will read the thread you Her dog has been loose on more than one occasion since the attack without a leash.
The police were called, and there is a police report, along with ER and doctor notes.
It is unbelievable how uncaring people are here on this board. Even though my daughter didn This is an 8-year-old child.
The owners should be penalized because they are allowing their dog to be loose without a leash on a street filled with young children. I don't have any sympathy for them.
It amazes me how people on this board show much more compassion for the dog that attacked my daughter than for my daughter. No one seems to care that this dog has been loose since the attack or that there were no penalties for this owner. The dog has never been impounded. A friend of mine lives next door to a dog that bit someone, and that dog was never impounded either.
I think I I have been coming here for years, but for people to be so cruel here to my daughter especially is just unimaginable to me.
I will do whatever I have to do to make my daughter feel safe in her own neighborhood. I have consulted with an attorney and will probably proceed in small claims court unless this owner wants to try to settle this with us.
I pray that nothing like this ever happens to any of your children or family members. It It

Unbelievable. You sound like a grinch to me. Who said anything about not [2007-12-14]
being grateful? Of course we are grateful! You have NO idea what my husband goes through and how he is up before the sun rises and then doesn't come home until the sun goes down and works his tail OFF for this amazing company. They are REWARDING him for his dedication and hard work and the fact that he hasn't called in sick in 3 years so he also gets a bonus for that too.
My gripe was that why is it the govt's business to tax that at 39%?
You go through what my family goes through each and every year and you'll see things my way.
Some people just shouldn't even speak sometimes.
Some of these posts unbelievable! [2007-12-10]
I will say I do believe a 14-year-old is too old for a whipping but having said that, the issue about her writing a report is really silly! I posted below when my son was made to write, I think, 200 times a sentence I shall not (whatever) and when he finisehd, wanted to know could he do that again! Some children actually love to do that- you have to find what they dislike most and that is their punishment. If they love to go to the mall, take it away, if they love their cell, take it away, television, away, movies, away. Frankly I would do an overall taking away everything, leaving them in a blank room for days! Not even writing material, books, etc. This crap about her having trust issues- I was whipped a lot as a child and I am in a wonderful, marvelous marriage. That is pure bunk!!
Truly unbelievable! Keep us posted. [2007-07-11]

that really is. she should have explained the difference between types of massages. i would guess that she never called to followup because she was expecting a call from your lawyer!! OMG. I sure hope you let the masseuse that really is unprofessional and, IMO, shows a total lack of knowledge on their part. i would have demanded a refund at the VERY least.
Unbelievable! [2006-11-15]
My sister denied she pulled my hair and pushed me and has hired a lawyer. She really is sicker than I thought. Unbelievable!
This all comes down to the parents [2008-11-25]
I think those women are making a big mistake. I love my sister and nephew, don But he is like that 7 yo and it drives me crazy. BUT my sister and BIL are to blame, I feel. He gets a toy every time they He gets a new toy if he My sister feels guilty if he likes something and she doesn They buy him major video games just because, instead of reserving these things for birthdays or Christmas. They will go out and buy him a $200 item in the middle of the week and when I ask what the occasion is? Nothing, we just thought he'd like it!
He is well behaved and they don Yes, it Growing up when we would talk, my sister had definite opinions about what she would and would not do when she had children, and this is not how she felt back then.
But he doesn In my opinion, they Just my opinion.
Before you push the panic button sm [2008-11-14]
This is a recession, quite possibly the mother of all recessions. It may turn into a depression, but it will run a very distant second to the Great Depression, IF it does.
Pre the GP (Great Depression) you several things going on that are NOT true today. We had come out of WWI not that long before. It had been a very bloody war, the first war with mechanized destruction. What the Doughboys witnessed was for them what we saw on 09/11...unimaginable death and destruction. It changed how they viewed America.
When these boys came home from the war, they came back to the farm, by and large. We were an agrarian country and with the exception of east coast, there were hardly any factory jobs and most people worked the land. Plenty of places all over the country people worked on shares and they were not all in the deep south and they were not all black. There was not nearly the land/home ownership that there is today. Most of these dirt farmers lived in poverty and barely scraped by enough to eat twice a day. When the great Dust Bowl came through Oklahoma, it took the enormous clouds of dust eastward and dumped it into the Atlantic Ocean. This was a man-made disaster and the story of the Joads in the Grapes of Wrath centers on the Dust Bowl and the farming habits of families, like the Joads caused them problems. It was their fault that the top soil blew across FDR's desk in the Oval Office.
There was no infrastructure to speak of, in those days. There were roadways, but not the spider web of paved roads there are today. Goods were carried on the rails, not over the roads. You didnin town and the Sears-Roebuck catalog. If you couldn't find it there or could not afford it you either cobbled something together or did without. You can look the Coal Miner's Daughter about being so low-down dirt poor it is unbelievable. That movie is quite cleaned up and Hollywood presentable. You could look at the sparse surroundings of the ranch house in Broke Back Mountain where Ennis goes after Jack dies, and while the time frame is more modern, the very plain, only the very basics of life appear in that ranch house. They are both a bit sanitized, but reasonably realistic.
Today, Americans live extraordinarily different lives than we did 80 years ago. Most people have a vehicle. Most people have more than a dirt floor shack to live in. We, have thanks to the Great Depression and FDR's recovery plan, electricity, roads, water, sewage and other sanitation. We take these things for granted, but we should not. The GP did bring some food shortages, not because of the depression, but because of the lack of infrastructure combined with people on the move to find work to subsist. The food shortages you are thinking of came with WWII and rationing...another problem secondary to lack of infrastructure and subsistence farming where there was not enough food produced to meet the need.
If you are going to stock up on food, let be for more common sense reasons. If you put your money in the bank, you will make 2% or 3% return on $500. If you put that same amount into nonperishable food (think canned goods), you make a better return on an investment. You don't earn 2% or 3%, but you can end up leveraging against future price increases that will meet and exceed what interest you make from a bank, which is nothing right now. You will need food whether you buy it now or buy it later. Squirreling away extra under the bed or whatever place you can find room, is a wise investment...financially and in peace of mind.
Here's an addition to your question about layout - sm [2008-11-03]
that was unbelievable. I was at a Walmart one day to buy jeans. In the unlikely event I find the 'perfect' pair, I usually buy 2 of the same size, 'cause who knows when you'll ever find a perfect pair again, right?
So I'm in the dressing room trying them on, find the perfect pair, and go out to grab another identical pair before heading to the register. Only......
While I was in the dressing room (maybe 10 minutes, tops?), they had completely reconfigured the entire jeans section, and the whole display that had the jeans I wanted was GONE! I spent another half-hour looking for them, and never did find them, even when I asked an employee, who was of course clueless.
So, I guess Walmart is kind of like the weather in the mountains. If you don't like what you see, wait 10 minutes and it'll change!
No wonder it's so hard to get through - and why [2008-10-24]
And yet US hospitals are trusting confidential data to the people who built that tangled mess. Unbelievable.
My best way to save -- my mom and I share [2008-10-21]
the club card for our local grocery store (we only have 1 in our little town). We accumulate the points together and usually qualify for the higher percentage off when it Then we pick a day we can go together and ring our order up together. Of course we use our coupons, too. We just went 2 weeks ago and qualified for 15% off our total bill. Before coupons/discounts, our total grocery bill was $550 but after our discounts, it was only $283. We saved almost $200 ---- unbelievable but true.
Before dining out, I check the website of the restaurant we They usually offer a free appetizer and that helps to fill us up so we can order smaller meals. We have 3 kids and my 2 younger kids share a kids I also like to order water -- that always cuts about $5 off the bill.
Remember -- if you donate clothes to Good Will/Salvation Army, it's a deductible dontation, so keep track.
I had only heard negative about pit bulls [2008-10-06]
until I heard Rachael Ray talk about hers. With a personality like hers how can she have a bad dog? I do have a new respect for them now, but I agree that I would want to do some research on their family. I personally prefer tiny little dogs that don't shed. Do pit bulls shed? I posted below that we had a boxer and the shedding was unbelievable but that is not the reason we no longer have her.
Speaking of pictures..... [2008-08-23]
My husband never knew his maternal GF, but was named after him. His maternal GF died long before he was born. Well, by the time my husband was in his 20s, he was the spitting image of his GF, right down to the mustache. My children used to look at the picture of their great GF and think it was daddy. They could have been twins. So, to have his mom name him after her father and then he turn out to be his spitting image, that is unbelievable! She had four other sons and none of them look like their GF.
its suckers like you [2008-08-17]
who make these places put out tip jars on the counter when you go and pick up your food. I was a waitress for 13 years, so I know what it is like to live on tips, but why would you tip someone who is already being paid to do their job and you had to pick it up, unbelievable. Andy Rooney did a segment on these so called tip jars, and basically said they were made for suckas.
barking [2008-07-31]
Our inconsiderate neighbors let their two loud labs bark constantly. Visited them and asked nicely if they would bring them in within a reasonable amount of time or at least yell 'shut up' out the window. Things would improve temporarily, then back to the noise. Animal control was not very helpful -- said they would have to drive by and catch the dogs in the act, but then wouldnt even come out. What finally helped was calling and Emailing both the mayor's office and several city council members--Two councilmen contacted these rude inconsiderate neighbors and kept following up and putting pressure on them until it finally dawned on them that their dogs were their responsibility and their unfortunate neighbors have a right to enjoy their house in peace. Unbelievable how inconsiderate and irresponsible people can be.
Hoping for some words of encouragement on 16 YO daughter. sm [2008-07-22]
Hello everyone. The saga continues. We have had her grounded since Friday and I saw her Psy.D. yesterday who gave me some advice. She said the best thing to do is to try to be nice and try to work with her in a positive manner, but in small steps. She said that if she decides to leave, there's nothing we can do about it, which I already knew. She said to voice that to her and let her be the one to make that decision, but supposedly that would take the power away from her. She also said that it was useless to try to keep her away from her friends, as she would do whatever it took to be with them. So I came home and told her that I loved her, did not want her to go, but the ultimate decision was hers. I gave her the cell phone back and told her that for her to be able to keep it, she needed to be civil so we can keep a civil atmosphere in the home and no more call me names and cursing at me. She agreed. That was yesterday. I told her that we would take things slow and she would have to earn back her privileges. Well, that's just not good enough for her. She wants it all right away, her way and when she wants. Wants to go out as many nights as she chooses and since it is summertime it is not fair that we don't let her go out. Unbelievable. I told her that we were unwilling to do that and the grounding stood through to the end. After that we would see how it went and start with one night out a week. She can't seem to grasp the concept that at 16 she cannot make these decisions.
Bottom line, I think it will be inevitible that she will at some point leave. I made her an appointment to see this Psy.D. on Friday, but we'll see if I can keep her here long enough for that and whether she will be willing to go.
I am at my wits end. The counselor said I needed to be patient and to continue to be nice. I think that would be easy to do if I saw that my daughter was willing to do her part, which she is obviously not keen on. I almost feel like I am wasting my time and I am so discouraged by her lack of wanting to participate in this.
I guess I have to prepare myself for the worst. This is so hard.
Thanks for listening.

The end of a friendship [2008-07-01]
My girlfriend came over one day and was chatting with me on the sofa. I had just gotten home from the hospital from having a hysterectomy and she came to pick me up to go see another friend of hers who was in the hospital having just been diagnosed with ovarian cancer (I couldn't drive yet).
My 2 dogs started scuffling over a bone and my friend got an extremely tiny, a little larger than a pin prick mark on the back of her ankle (either from one of the dog's teeth or a sharp end of the bone, hard to tell). I gave her antiseptic wash, a bandage, said I was sorry and thought that was the end of it. We went to visit our friend.
Awhile later, I answered the door to be served with a summons. We were being sued by my friend. I want you to know that this bite did not even bleed.
She had a tattoo right in the area and when she took pictures of the bite for her attorney, it was very, very hard to see a mark at all.
So, anyway, by the time it went to court (and here is a very ironic thing, the day my husband and I got up and ready to go to court, my sweet Barney, my Schnauzer, died).
Well, between pictures of the injury and her poor performance on the stand (oh God it was unbelievable the way she tried to beef up the whole story), the jury came back with a guilty plea for us. They had to, because our dog or the bone did bite her.
They awarded her the amount her insurance did not cover and I believe 1 or 2 missed days from work. It came to about $1,500. We saw her in the parking lot when we left, she was crying. She was expecting the big payday and it didn't happen.
However, the 10 year friendship did end. We were Girl Scout leaders together for most of those years, our daughters were best friends, but I could never want to be friends with someone who would do such a thing and consider it well, after all, the insurance will pay.
So be careful what you are expecting. Expect the whole thing to take a long time to get to court and the results to be perhaps less than you expect. Now, maybe your daughter is significantly scarred by the dog bite. I don't know and don't want to offend you with my story. Also, hopefully you have pictures that you took right away when it happened. You will probably need them. Plus you will have to be able to find a lawyer who will take it to court for you. My ex-friend's lawyer was about as inept as could be. I almost felt sorry for her.
Tide is great [2008-05-15]
I have wanted to try Tide because my stains just won't come out no matter how much bleach I put in with the detergent, usually store brand or one of the cheaper brands. I have 7 dogs, all white and they shed. I've been hanging my clothes out since my dryer broke and there is always hair on them from the dogs. I tried Tide mainly because of the stains to see if it really worked like it said. After washing a normal load that would have had dog hair on it, lots, as I was hanging up each piece I noticed no hair on anything. This is unbelievable to me. I only used 1 scoop for the whole load, a little bleach and I was shocked. This was not even why I bought it, but I am sold and will buy it from now on. I got is on sale 4.99 for 40 load size. It was well worth it and the clothes looked much brighter.
Happy Bikrthday to me, happy birthday [2008-03-22]
Unbelievable, I have reached the age of 65- where did the years go?? I would retire but gosh, darn just love this work so much, want to keep on working. Hubs had me a delicious huge chocolate cake this morning and daughter coming over for pizza tonight, oh forgot working today also but like I said, hard to give this terrific life up,thatis a life in between my working!
Up to 2 last night watching about tornado that hit Atlanta [2008-03-15]
I live really close to there and so much destruction, unbelievable that it went right downtown. Today we are having tornados over Georgia and I get scared just hearing about them. They are in the upper northern part as I type this. Pray for everyone to be safe.
Apparently not. [2008-03-13]
Looks like mod fixed it anyway:) Unbelievable that they have that much time on their hands....must be really boring over there:)
I am in total agreement with you. [2008-02-23]
I have been working today and just thinking about not ever having to do any business with anyone who talks like the ones I have done today. I laughed the other day when 1 on here asked when did she go from Transcriptionist to interpreter. You may not know this, but years ago we got a difficulty factor, just for dictators like we have to do day after day now, unbelievable, isn't it? None of those dictators could even approach what we hear now. It is irritating. Some days I have taken off a little early when I know I am having 1 after the other, can make up that time another day- just too irritating and getting on my nerves to continue.
Oh yes, they should have given her album too [2008-02-11]
because she is just such an excellent role model. Not. My thoughts were oh great now she can afford even more heroin and crack. LOL. Unbelievable :(
This is just want I mentioned [2008-01-09]
in a previous e-mail - unbelievable! A few posts above I spoke of a story I just read about a wife whose husband was diagnosed with Asperber's at age 60 after leading a full functioning life.
Just had three friends return from Peru...sm [2008-01-09]
I've only been able to talk with one of them so far, but she said it was the most terrific trip she had ever been on and wouldn't hestiate a second to go again.
She said Machu Pichu (sp?) was unbelievable and she could have stayed there forever.
This gal has been many places and is almost 70 years old, so when she says this was one of the most exciting trips she's ever taken, I would think it would be well worth it.
She did mention she was surprised by how much poverty there was in the country, but they stayed in some very nice haciendas (sp?) and were treated very well by everyone... it was a small tour group situation.
Good luck in your travels wherever you go... and Happy Anniversary. Just celebrated our 25th 1-1/2 years ago...only had a small gathering with some friends as we are home-bodies and can't leave our critters long enough to go anywhere anyway... but it was still fun sharing it with kids and family and friends.
It's her 16 y/o sister who is pregnant, not her. [2007-12-19]
Unbelievable.
dysfunctional [2007-12-10]
You So much jealousy, sister has to out do everyone else, mom plays favorites (my kids are the favorites - totally unfair to nieces), kids are grown now. Sister NEVER likes or uses anything given to her by any of us. Such a nightmare. My favorite time is Christmas morning with my husband. Thank heaven we still love each other and can sit by the fire with coffee and Kolachy and have a peaceful time with our gifts - carefully chosen and never expensive. I also have a core group of friends, The Board and enjoy time with them. Sometimes family can be a terrible trial during holidays.
I just said yuck to the cranberry dressing [2007-12-05]
Don't understand why you read more into yuck! Unbelievable!
You misread my post. I was saying the usual dressing (since that is what they sm [2007-12-04]
call it down here) with added cranberries. I have never made it like that. I was saying that sounded yummy. I can't believe you got offended at this post. Unbelievable.
My daughter came home from school with yet another letter...sm [2007-11-30]
saying that a classmate has lice. This is the same little girl over and over. She had lice the entire year last year in kindergarten and has now had it all of this year so far. Why should she be allowed to come to school and infest everyone? I understand if this is a random thing and it is taken care of, but when it is a constant problem she should not be allowed to attend school. Last year she infested most of her kindergarten class and when I treated my daughter with the shampoo she ended up with an allergic reaction and a flaming red scalp!!! People have even take free products and left them on their porch so mom could use them. She is just to darn lazy to do it. Why should lice be treated any different than when a child has chickenpox?? I am having a meeting with the principal today and then if nothing is done I am going to the school board of education. These kids are crammed 24 in a room and are expected to share computer headphones. I know some people are going to say jeez its only lice, but ya know what it is nasty little bugs and we shouldnt have to get them or suffer with flaming heads because people cannot be clean and get rid of them. I say this kind of infestation should require the child to stay at home and no school. She has so many bugs you can actually stand by her and see all of them crawling!!!! Sorry to be so angry, but this is so frustrating. I have three daughters all with long hair and I have thick, long hair also. Last year it cost me a fortune and took forever to get everything out of everyones hair. It is just nasty and disgusting. The nurse even said they called the health department and got no help on this. Unbelievable!!!
