Vista versus XP [2008-09-25]
Hi, I am an MT looking to purchase a new computer, and it seems like unless you special order all the computers have Vista on them. How is Vista compared to XP? The companies I work for do support Vista, but I have heard more negative comments about Vista as opposed to good from people I know who use Vista who are not MTs. I am hoping that this will be a smooth transition for me as I am not that computer savvy. Thanks!

I have Vista on my home computer, XP on 2 others. [2008-09-25]
I cannot stand Vista. I now only use that computer basically to print things or run a simple Word document. I never had problems with it before having Vista installed. I tried to load my transcription programs to that computer and never was successful. My other 2 with XP, never have problems with anything. I bought a used laptop for remote use simply because I could get it ith XP and not pay more since all the new ones start with Vista.

I don't like that everything is black instead of blue. I could not find anything i was looking for when i have tried to help her fix her computer. Her printer will not work now and I cannot figure out how to uninstall it. I am having her bring it over tomorrow to see if I can install it on my PC to see if it's the printer or her PC. if you like change you may like Vista but it will be a very sad day indeed when I am forced to buy a PC with Vista. Luckily I just had this one built in December and they still had copies of XP to install on it!!!

Blue Screen for Vista [2008-08-17]
1 - First Check for the Vista updates. 2 - See your power settings, like auto turn off hard drives, monitor, hibernate, sleep etc. 3 - Run Spyware & anti-virus. 4 - There are few reports that Adobe Reader causes the Blue Screens in Vista, you should better uninstall it. If not solved, then it's hardware issue, consult your vendor. HTH, Sara.

Does anyone else have Vista? My new computer has it and I keep getting that blue screen and lose everything if im in the middle of a report. Need a new printer for Vista OS...Any suggestions for a good cheap one?? sm [2008-06-19]
I need a new printer compatible with Windows Vista OS. I would like an All In One, but at this point, I am not picky...I just need to print! Thanks in advance for all suggestions!

Vista [2008-06-04]
If I wasnshopped a bit, but as it was I had to buy what was on the shelf so that I could continue working nearly uninterrupted. I know when it first came out it was horrid. I am hoping that with the updates and such that it will continue to work well. I did love having XP, but it wasn't on the shelf at the time and I didn't have time to do any building of my own. Still hoping that it continues to do well for me! Good luck to you when it comes time.

VISTA OS [2008-06-03]
Has anyone an opinion regarding Vista OS?

Vista [2008-06-03]
My computer crashed about 1.5 months ago. I was in need of a computer and quickly... ended up with a HP that has Vista. So far (knock on wood) I have not had any problems. all of the programs that I use work just fine. The only thing that I did differently was uninstall the Antivirus that came with it and installed a different antivirus and a different spyware. I did find the new Microsoft Word that I installed to work just fine, but it was really different than the old version that I was using.. some good, some bad! I am not much help I suppose, but I haven't had any trouble with mine and I pray that I don't either!

Anyone using Vista how do you like it. It seems [2008-04-18]
as though XP is being discontinued very shortly so not sure how that will affect all of us with companies that arent compatible if we need a new computer.

Vista is garbage [2008-04-18]
My husband is in IT and he installed Vista when it first came out. He very quickly uninstalled it. It has so many problems, causes so many problems and he pointed out that there are security issues with Vista. I don I wouldn't bother wasting your money.

My experience....... [2008-09-25]
Vista requires a lot of memory (RAM)to run, so I wouldn't have anything less than 4 GB of ram, in order to make sure it doesn't freeze up all the time, which is a big complaint. My daughter has a new Dell with Vista, 4 gb ram, and says it works great, really fast. Otherwise, you can order online and get a computer with XP on it, with an upgrade to Vista later. Newegg.com, Tigerdirect.com, Dell..... all these have XP on their computers/laptops.

I have a new Dell with Vista and my old computer with XP sitting side by side. I really do not see much difference, except of course my new computer is way faster. All the accounts I work on support Vista also and I've not had a problem.

Thank you [2008-06-04]
I had been told by the computer guru who built my computer that XP was out the door and that Vista with 2007 office was in. Since mycustom computer is only 2 years old, and XP was extremely expensive, with the 2003 office package, I was just not that ready to abandon ship and jump into a life raft with holes, ya So, since I am 6 months to a year from building a new computer, I was looking for opinions from professionals in regards to how the new system worked with old programs. The company I am looking to hire with is also a computer guru/programmer and he suggested that if it comes to putting Vista in my current computer, not to bother. If it comes to building a new one, then go ahead, but postpone it a spell, because they (Microsoft) is still working some of the bugs out. Thank you, again, for your feedback.

This just in from my future contractor [2008-06-04]
You friend is correct, but may be jumping the gun a little bit. As I said before, I would avoid purchasing a NEW PC with XP. This does not make sense, especially if your current PC is working for you. Extended support for Windows XP systems will continue through 2014 at least and probably longer. So the timeframe for upgrading is quite long… I would not upgrade a current PC (more than 2 years old) to Vista under any circumstances. With anything less than 2 Gig of RAM, the Vista OS slows to a crawl and many hardware vendors have not upgraded their drivers. As far as a new machine goes, I would wait until the Vista SP1 (Service Pack 1) has had time to “soak” for a while before making any decision. It’s also MUCH better to change machines than trying to attempt an upgrade later (to Vista SPn for example). Again, the other thing to consider is that not all vendors are currently ready to support Vista and the “compatibility mode” of Vista has been shown to be problematic. So to summarize, here’s what I am suggesting to my clients and friends … 1. Let 2008 pass without upgrading. 2. Revisit the stability of Vista and the depth of vendor support in late 2008 to be ready for a planned migration from XP to Vista in 1Q 2009 at the earliest (and possibly later). 3. When considering the upgrade to Vista, plan a complete hardware upgrade as well. If you would like to talk about this on the phone, feel free to contact me anytime. See this link http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsVista/sp1.mspx for more information about Vista SP1.

I don't think it's garbage... [2008-04-18]
Just like every other platform, it has a few bugs that still need to be worked out but for the most part I like it. Iadministrator issues and were easily solved. Vista has some pretty cool features too, so it's not all bad.

don't like it... [2008-04-18]
I have Vista on my home pc and do not like it at all. I have been in the market for a new computer and seems as though that is the program that comes by default with the new ones. I am seriously considering trying it on a brand new pc (for lack of other option at startup) but am keeping my options open for purchasing XP to load later down the road if I have the same problems as with my current pc running on Vista.

Apparently MS hasn't seen the Mac [2008-04-18]
commercial making fun of Vista.

My computer also [2008-02-24]
I am going to be buying a new one and have this one as back up and give my old back up away. But mine is 6 years now. But it is starting to grind and make noises. My neighbor that works on it says it is still okay but I think it is time to get a new one. He wants me to get an HP that has nothing on it and he will download Windows 2003 and take off the Vista. Will also help me transfer everything over. Needless to say, I have started backing up more lately. I am on my computer between work and play 12 to 15 hours a day and so to me it has paid for itself over these six years.

I have a Lenovo (IBM), got it at Best Buy... [2007-11-29]
through their business section for a fabulous price. Got it with XP instead of Vista, 3 year warranty that covers everything, including spills, for under $1200. Just spent 3 weeks in Phoenix and Vegas working with it, no problems whatsoever. Has all the bells and whistles I need. Hubby has an HP that works great, niece has a Toshiba that she loves. They are all pretty much made by the same manufacturer and just get differnt company names slapped on them.

I always go here... [2007-11-28]
Tiger Direct. I build my own, which is a whole lot cheaper and you get waaaay better quality, but here are their assembled systems. Note that you can sort by price or what have you, and links to the left for different things. If they come with Vista, scroll down in the links on left to software where you'll find XP Pro for $139. One piece of advise is do NOT by Visionman if you want something reliable. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=2630&

Universal is more for teens really..... [2006-11-02]
MGM is great for 3 and 7 year olds, as is the Magic Kingdom. Epcot is more for teens and adults. Haven't been to Animal Kingdom but it's for 3 and 7 year olds as well as adults and teens. Someone I know just went back up to Universal and said much is closed inside - it's not doing as well as it did back in the early 90s. I loved Universal when I went, that was in 1997, and I'm adult (many times over *LOL*). They'll have fun NO MATTER WHAT - this I can promise you!!! Buena Vista is a very nice area to stay in and very close to all parks. The Disney parks have escalated in price and went up TWICE this past year....may be better to buy 3 (if they still offer 3), 4 or 5-day passes - unlimited visits and cheaper in the long run. HAVE FUN!!!
