YEAH baby!! Me too. sm [2008-11-18]
About 10 years ago I bought a Honda HX with prototype gas-efficient trannie, light wheels, no frills. That puppy would still be with me if not for the prototype trannie pretty much fizzled on most of the HXs but I milked mine for as long as possible. Ex had a Prelude, same year (99). He loved the car and took great care of it. Gas was killing him though (uses it to drive and travels a bit). He wanted to keep it in the family so he sold it to me. I drive about 5000 miles a year, if that. Amost 300,000 miles on that one and what a dream it is!!! He bought a new Civic. Another SWEET car. My son has a 1990 Accord, bought it used with less than 100,000 miles about 3 years ago. We've put some money into it, mostly cosmetic and just catching stuff up, but it runs like new. My Civic was actually built in US, so I didn't feel too guilty, but how many years have US automakers had to see the writing on the wall? I'm sorry, but I like keeping a car forever. No car payments are great. Honda fits that mold.

My baby Cody [2008-11-13]
He's an English Bulldog, though about one of the sorriest-looking ones I've ever seen, but he's perfect in my heart. (I hope the image loads...we'll see...lol)

Has This Ever Happened To Any Of You Here? [2008-11-13]
This was unreal...I had made a trip to the store for cat food (before I became cat food LOL!) and while slowing down behind a car that was turning, I got hit in the back. No real damage, just a scruff on the bumper of my Subaru Forester, and a bit of a blow to my ego, but the dang kid who hit me was texting her boyfriend while driving and obviously not paying attention to the road. She was only 19 years old! Holy cow! I got out, she got out...still texting. She said, Wait a minute, and continued texting. I couldn't believe it. I have that hands-free voice-activated cellphone setup in my Forester that DH set up for me, so I got back in and called the police department. If she hadn't been so rude, I might have let it go, but when she pulled that, I decided to teach her a lesson. She was horrified to learn that I called the cops while she was texting. She actually yelled at me, saying, My Dad and on and on. I just stood there and looked at her. The cop got there, threw the book at her: failure to yield, following too closely, texting while driving (it's a law here now -- you can't do that) and she has a nasty fine and her insurance is definitely going to go up. She was horrified. Maybe she'll think twice before texting while driving again...before she causes real damage and people get hurt. So thatHang up and drive! Has this ever happened to any of you?

Baby? lol [2008-11-13]
He looks like a big baby! lol How cute, looks like he poses for pictures often. I would definitely have that one in a frame with that beautiful smile! :)

I really hate this happened to you...sm [2008-11-10]
It gives all pits a bad name. I am an immense dog lover myself. I love all dogs. There are some pits and Rotties, etc. bred from family pets and bred to be family pets. Unfortunately there are some drug dealers and gangstas who want this big bad dog to go with their gangsta facade. It is so wrong. It is unfortunate because these dogs are all given a bad name for the actions of a few. It makes people weary of them rightfully. My pit came from a mother and father who are big ole babies, inside kept family pets and the grandparents on both sides were family pets too so I do know mine was not intentionally bred to bring out bad traits such as aggressiveness. I knew where he came from and knew what kind of ancestors he had. This eased my mind. My pitbull CJ is a big ole baby. He is weary of a stranger BUT I would never allow him out of the fenced in yard which is in my backyard. He is not allowed even out in my yard in the part that is not fenced in. I am not taking a risk of him biting someone. He is pretty much okay with people even he don't know if they don't approach him. If they give him his space he will give them theirs. That is when I have friends over he doesn't know. But I don't allow him to just be free roaming around and I cannot express how irresponsible that is. The owners should have been paid a visit by the animal control or police and told you keep him in or on a leash or you won't keep him. I am firmly against letting any dog roam free even a poodle I wouldn't because also they can get ran over or anything. It is just flat out irresponsible.

It happened to me. (sm) [2008-11-09]
We had all sorts of vet bills from previous dogs, and then were hit with health bills of our own (both DH and I), and insurance that didn't turn out to be very good, and suddenly the reality was that we couldn't afford to care for our 2 dogs responsibly. We didn't have these dogs very long, but I'll be heartbroken if they aren't adopted.

This has happened before and ....sm [2008-11-08]
it is such a sad sad story. I am a pitbull owner. I will say these dogs are not for everyone. It takes a certain kind of owner to have these dogs and in the wrong hands they are dangerous. I am a dog lover. I love pits BUT there are mistakes people make such as having more than one pit of the same gender. I don't know the circumstances which led to this attack but I can say I do not believe the dogs attacked for no reason. Something can set them off. But a dog that is loved and is a stable well minded dog who loves the owner is not going to attack for no reason. Usually there are circumstances we don't know. The dogs could have got into a fight or simply a spat and he could have intervened and they might have attacked him in the heat of the moment. I would never have more than one at a time unless they were different genders. I will say again not a dog for everyone. Until we know the nature of the attack we can't judge.

Whatever happened to M. Jackson [2008-11-02]
Does anyone know what ever happened to Michael Jackson (I don I know most don He made some great hits. Every once in awhile I will pull up his Youtube videos (beat it, billie jean, thriller, etc). He was such a great entertainer and I often wonder what went wrong with him and when. Just am curious.

Baby shower gift or shower [2008-10-27]
Anyone have some creative or unique baby shower gift ideas or shower ideas? or what is something that you couldn I have heard of giving a book instead of a card and signing the book. Also heard of wrapping the present in a blanket or crib sheet instead of spending money on paper to throw away. I have heard of charging an admission fee of a package or diapers or 1 package of diapers buys a raffle ticket for a prize.

I'm so sorry to hear about your baby. sm [2008-10-24]
No words can help you get over your loss, but know that I feel your pain. I have three bassetts, they are older, and no matter how long you've had a baby, it's sad to lose any pet. You are in my thoughts. You did the right thing.

That's my baby's daddy!!...sm [2008-10-11]
This is my CJ's daddy everyone. He has the same face as my CJ. Awww!! If they were the same color they could be twins. CJ is tan and his dad as you can see is brindle. What a sweet picture! He looks like he is just posing for it!

Maybe you could rig that baby to [2008-10-02]

How old is your son? Something similar happened to mine in first grade and it escalated. sm [2008-10-01]
It was because he was a bigger, tough boy, and like yours I have taught him to only hurt others in self-defense. This girl ended up dragging him around the playground by the hood of his jacket and almost choking him to death before a teacher who happened to be looking out the window (not the ones who were gabbing on the playground unaware) noticed and ran out to help him. Even after that the teacher was just going to make the girl sit out for a little while because the girl has a little crush on your son. I made such a big deal that the teacher called a class discussion about safety and not touching others and how you can hurt people, etc.

This happened to MY GIRL in 2nd grade . . . sm [2008-10-01]
actually, the girl threatened to stab her with her pencil. My daughter went to the teacher who was an old burned out substitute that day and the teacher told her to sit down and get to work, would not even listen to her. Needless to say I went ballistic. Of course, the girl who was threatening to stab my daugther was a problem child (they always are, who else would do this?). My daughter was moved away from this child and never sat next to her again, because I saw to it that it happened that way. And btw, I personally believe calling the mother would only frustrate you more. Why do you think this child acts this way? You would be only arguring against ignorance and there is no point to frutstrate yourself further. Tell your child to stay away from this child and insist upon their separation in the classroom.

This actually happened in my family [2008-10-01]
My father had nonhodgkin's lymphoma with spinal mets. We had been told it was pretty much palliative care from then on. He had done all the chemo and radiation. There was this one drug they could try so he took the Rx. I dropped it off at Walgreen's and was told they had to order it, didn't have it on hand so come back in a couple of days. When I went to pick it up, it was $932 for 7 days (this was in 1990). My dad had only Medicare. But I picked it up for him (I had to put it on my Master Card 'cuz who runs around with that much money?) I later asked his doctor what he would have done if my dad could not have afforded the medication. (I was appalled by this answer.) He said he would not have even mentioned it if he thought my parents could not have paid for it. Okay, so there is a potentially life-enhancing med for someone that they don't tell you about if you don't have any money? I find that disgusting. As it turned out, my dad only took one pill. It made him so violently nauseous, worse than any of the chemo ever did, that he could not take it so we ended up throwing it away.

So instead of "stealing baby cows milk" [2008-09-28]
we are supposed to steal baby human's milk??? Hello?! If mommas in financial distress find out they can sell their breast milk rather than give it to their kid, they are going to do that! And like PETA said the breast is the best!

an 8 1/2 yo baby-sitting a 6 yo? [2008-09-20]
that seems really young, how long are they alone before the parents get home? Next summer I am considering letting my oldest who will be 14 baby-sit my youngest who will be 11 if i find a job outside the home, but even that makes me nervous. i'm sorry i don't have any good advice for you. if it were me, i would be tempted to take him to karate class or something so he could learn to open up a can on the brother if necessary

If she wants to choose whether or not a baby results from sex [2008-09-16]
then she better choose to block that sperm from reaching the egg, because if it does, well then, a baby may very well result from sex. I mean, I understand when it's very, very early, but come on, abortion has really been taken way, way too far, to the point of murder of a full-fledged baby, and some people think, hey, that's okay, it's the mother's decision.

What happened to all the other posts that were here earlier? Mod..can you help? nm [2008-09-12]

I had trouble breathing and swallowing and the left side of my thyroid had grown pretty big. I had the left thyroid taken out. The surgery was no big deal. I was not in much pain either. My left thyroid was about 3 times the size it should have been, but it was not cancer. Don't worry.

chicken soup [2008-11-18]
Good olJewish penicillin - chicken soup. Use leftover chicken or steamed chicken thighs or breasts if no leftovers are available. Use Swansons natural chicken broth (nosodium) but can use bullion, but it contains a lot of sodium. Use about a quart or moreof natural chicken broth. I like to usebaby carrots whole, but can certainly usesliced carrots. Season with lots ofminced garlic and a little dill weed (maybea teaspoon).I slice in a couple of things ofcelery or sliced celeryhearts with leaves. I sometimes add noodles, or rice, sometimes I use a package of frozen mixed vegetables which are really terrific, depending on what I have available and what type of soupmy family wants.Add some white pepper, not black pepper. Simmer until carrots and celeryare soft. If using pasta or rice, add that last, otherwise it soaks up too much broth and gets soggy. My family would eat this even if they were sick and nothing else appealed to them, that is why I call it Jewish penicillin. This is a Jewish mama Enjoy - it is so simple and so delicious not to mention nutritious and healthy. Note: Never let your chicken leftovers go to waste - make a pot of chicken soup!

(Pet Pulse Illustration by Tim Mattson) PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The wandering 65-pound Pit Bull mix might have seemed menacing to some passerby, but one woman will always remember him as her guardian angel. The dog, which authorities think is lost and not a stray, successfully thwarted a robbery attack on a mother and her 2-year-old son, who were held at knifepoint Monday afternoon. The Florida woman, who has been identified by authorities simply as Angela, was leaving a playground with her toddler son in Port Charlotte when a man approached her in the parking lot with a knife and told her not to make any noise or sudden movements. Angela didn't have to do either to protect herself and her child -- a dog mysteriously ran to the scene and charged the man, who quickly fled. I don Animal Control Lt. Brian Jones told Pet Pulse. I don The exceptional part of the story, Jones said, is that the dog had never met or even seen the people it quickly jumped to defend. You hear about family dogs protecting their owners, but this dog had nothing to do with this woman or her kid, Jones said. He was like her guardian angel. After the alleged thief ran away, Angela quickly placed her son, Jordan, in the car and tried to drive off. Before she could, though, the dog jumped into her backseat, waiting with her for the police and animal control officers to arrive at the scene. The dog was transported to a local shelter and if his owners donAngel. Animal control officers and shelter workers believe Angel is lost, and not a stray, because of his good health, sturdy weight and mild temperament. It Jones said of Angel's possible owners. For Angela, it doesn't matter where the dog came from, just that he was there when she needed him most. I don Angela told NBC2 News. For a small town with a population of 46,452, animal control officers were kept busy Monday afternoon. Jones says they department also responded to a report about a boa constrictor in a church parking lot. The snake found its way into a car engine and was able to be removed without being harmed. It took three people to move the massive, seemingly random placed snake. It he said of the Gulf Coast town. And we can go for four or five months without the media contacting us about a story. It Officers from the responding county sheriff's office canvased the area and were unable to locate the suspect described as being in his 20s, tall and dark haired. Need some advice on an old friendship -- [2008-11-16]
I got divorced 7 years ago. Started out as a friendly divorce and then I started dating a man that my ex did not like (because he is black) and we quit speaking at all. Then, one of my very good friends started backing off from the friendship andI thought it was because I was openly dating a black man. Well, 4 months later, I heard that she was dating my exhusband. I called her and asked her about it and of course she denied it, could not believe I accused her of that, she would never do that to me..... on and onand on. To make a long story short, of course 2 months later I found out it was true, they had bee seeing each other for about 6 or 7 months. Anyway, during that time period after I knew that they were together but before they broke up, I would call her occasionally if I needed information on my son (who lived with his dad and would not speak to me at that time becaue of brainwashing) and we stayed friendly on the phone, felt like old times, etc. Then they broke up and now occasionally I get the urge to call her or she will call me for something, and it is like nothing ever happened. We laugh and cut up and it I have some thoughts though about when it really started, before we were even divorcing or during the divorce, and then sometimes I get really mad because she lied to me in the first place and let me keep trying to have a friendship, and then sometimes I miss her and think it does not matter because we were divorced and he was free and I definitely did not want him back. My problem is what to do? Forgive her and forget her... forgive her and be friends again... ask her the questions I need answers to and then decide whether to be friends??? And the other big problem is my new husband gets very upset every time I even speak to her because she did thatto me when she was my friend and he says you never go behind friends to their love interests. Advice please....

I say forgive, of course, but forget, NO WAY......sm [2008-11-16]
To be a true friend and truly care for someone, you first have to respect them and honor their dignity....how can care for anyone, friend, lover, or whatever, if you cannot be TRUTHFUL? How can you say you respect someone whiile blatantly lying to them? As a Christian and hopefully good person, I belive we always have to forgive, but to forget as if nothing had happened, that is impossible, I would think. She betrayed you by lying, not by seeing your ex, that is HER problem if she wants a second-hand loser, but friendship is a sacred bond, I am sure you can forge some newer, better friendships, can you ever feel any confidence in this woman again? Just my firm opinion, I had this done to me many years ago when very young, and although we tried, the friendship was never the same, for obvious reasons. God bless in your decision!

It doesn't sound dumb... [2008-11-16]

Dried Beans [2008-11-15]
I always used to use those for bean soup for our family reunion. About 10 years ago, I made it and the beans were still crunchy!First time I had that problem. I had to throw it all out (20 quarts) and start all over again, yet only had 1 day until the reunion, ran out and bought canned beans.Worked.Now I use canned beans instead. Never knew what happened, but I'd rather use dried beans because of the cost and shelf life.

I'm so sorry for you pain... [2008-11-14]
My dad drank a lot too. I donan alcoholic though. My dad was a horrible father when all five of the kids were at home. He beat my oldest brother horrendously in front of all of us many, many times. He lined us all up by age when I was 5 (I There is a long list of other things that happened. Once we moved out of the house, he turned into a different man. He did apologize to us. He became the best father and friend I could ask for. He was always so thrilled when I stopped by and made me feel more loved than anyone ever has. Fourteen years ago yesterday, my dad was killed in an airplane crash. He had an experiemental airplane and was flying by himself. I have never forgotten my childhood because it has a lot to do with who I am today, but I am so thankful for the time I did have with him once things changed. Maybe you could tell your dad how you feel about him, explain how hard it is to be around him now and let him take the next step. It might beworth a shot. I I know it is really difficult to sort out all the emotions sometimes. I'll be thinking of you.

If you honestly love him like you say, then maybe it is time for some forgiveness in your heart, just forget what has happened and move on or sit him down one on one and tell him to get it off your chest. My mom and dad divorced when I was one. I am almost 40 now. I won Once he had more kids, I was in the way. He was never there for me even as an adult. His wife (married again when I was 3) only wants to be involved in my life when she can stir up drama. I made the decision to finally cut them out of my life because it was beginning to affect me on a daily basis. I did confront both of them to a certain extent, not all that I wanted to say. But since his wife was stirring up drama with my 4 kids, momma bear came out and enough was enough. I still love my dad, but don't understand how he can be so blind about his wife. Being that your parents are still together, I think you need to either sit him down without your mom and tell him how you feel and maybe he will then understand why you have been so hurt. If you feel you can Just my 2 cents worth...I wish you the best of luck

A little off topic, but [2008-11-13]
I was out to lunch one day with my DH and on my way home I came upon a crash that had just happened at an intersection...one of the drivers was a young girl (she happened to go to the same HS as my DD). The other driver was a 30-something mother of 2 or 3. The young girl had run a red light and T-boned the other car. The mother was instantly killed in the crash, with 2 of her children in the car with her. When the teen girl got out of her car...yep, she was on the phone...! And obviously she was not calling 911! So sad...my DD said this girl went off the wall after this accident.

Wow, Perfect example. [2008-11-13]
That should have never happened. It was malicious or intended but things happen through carelessness. I don't think teenagers or young adults really get that until they either experience something like this or close to it first hand or have children who depend on them. It puts life in a completely different perspective. What a shame.

This story is so weird to me, I can only wonder... [2008-11-13]
I watched 'The View' today. How did this man get pregnant? This is a puzzle to me. And how come that his wife, who had an hysterectomy is BREASTFEEDING the baby? How did her body produce milk? Isn't it that one must be pregnant before producing milk? t is all a hormone thing. This is all so weird to me, downright scary and I do not like it a bit.

yes, she said good bird, bad bird (after she has bitten one of us), I love youo and ibat' hanging upside down, being outside with us and even being on the tree outside the door -- wings are clipped so no danger of her flying away thank heavens.

Actually, she didn't have the surgery [2008-11-13]
She takes hormones to get facial hair and cut her boobs off but she does not have man parts - unless she did have the surgery right after she had the last baby. She is definitely still 100% woman - not a man by any defintion other than her own.

they smell chemical changes... [2008-11-13]
my friend had kept a retreiver that wandered up and when my friend got pregnant, Fancy would not part from her side until after the baby was born. My neighbor had trouble with her son and his friends. Somehow, the bull got loose and was kept for 2 to 3 days in the front yard (we he would not let any of the potheads in. Anybody doing drugs was greeted with earflapping and then a charge!

Always, always call the cops sm [2008-11-13]
My husband was nearly killed by a tractor trailer driver who changed his story a dozen times, themedics were called but unfortunately, the other driver went his merry way and was not cited until days later for following too close, reckless endangerment, speeding, mistake in log book, and a laundry list, first he said my husband going too slow. Reconstruction said no way, but while my husband was in hospital having his scalp sewn back on, this guy ran away. Had to hire a detective to find him, went on for years before we got our bills paid, he got off with heavy fines and warnings he would go to jail if it happened again. It had happened in another state previously but could not bring that up in court. My sorrow - I should have had him arrested right that moment but I was not there. He should have been tested for drugs, etc. He went from saying husband's fault to that he dropped his coffee and was picking it up off the floor and then changed it again to something else. He still drives and my husband is totally disabled. Please get the cops involved the minute something happens - don't wait. I had no choice, I had to travel to another state to the hospital. I wish my husband were conscious enough to have him arrested right there. You did the right thing calling the cops, everyone should do that. Believe me, she could have killed you or someone else later. I hope you scared the pants off her.

I was under the impression... [2008-11-13]
that she had done the surgery, but I really don't follow it all that closely because I don't find a woman having a baby all that spectacular. I have done it once and am about to again--although if I could get the money that she/he gets for appearances, I might tell some stupid story, too.

Breast feeding..... [2008-11-13]
I had a child via a surrogate and I breast fed her. Sometimes just suckling the baby will stimulate milk supply but it is a very long and time consuming process. Also, I used a system called Lact-Aid that uses a small bag that holds formula and has a thin tube that is near the nipple so the baby suckles both the tube for the formula and you for the stimulation to trick your body into producing milk. And yes, I did produce some although not enough for nourishment. I used the system for several weeks just for the bonding.

My most memorable Christmas - [2008-11-12]
Well, actually I have two - When I was younger (back during the last recession in the 80s), we had moved to Texas for my dad to find work in construction. My family was really homesick and wanted to come back where we were from and decided to move right around Christmas time. Therefore, we were told there would be no Christmas at your house that year. However, on Christmas morning we got up and all had a present that we had really wanted - mind you it was only 1 present, but that was the best present!!! The next one was when I had first married and my husband was a soldier and we moved away from our family the first week of December. At Christmas, there was no money for presents (not even cards), barely any food to eat, and we had a daughter who was 1. Well, on Christmas morning, the neighbor we had never even spoken to, came over and invited us to dinner with her family and she had bought us a present. I will never forget it. She got us a salt and pepper shaker set and had bought a doll for my baby girl.

Cute! [2008-11-12]

Mine is so sweet I haven't even nuetered him. But there have been some offers to breed him to females and because he is such a wonderful dog I would like to keep his bloodline going with other family pets who are inside family dogs. Now I can tell you if the dogs were bullying my child such as the ones in San Francisco they would no longer be inside and would probably be kept in some kind of kennel. I would not even trust them to stay in the yard. They would have been under lock and key. I know personally that you can't keep a pit bull locked in a room and expect that he won't get out. I tried that when I left my house because I didn't want him to be free roaming around the house because he is nosy and may get into something or chew something. Well he tore the door down and got out. I was so mad. But I learned that you can't keep them in a room and believe they can't get out. He was about a little less than a year then but now he is so good and don't get into things when I leave him. I guess the puppy in him made him do it. But I cannot express enough that mother should have never kept those pits in the house if there was the slightest problem with her son. Those must have been some mean pits. This irresponsible breeding makes me so mad. I don't want my dog to be some mean killing machine. I want a sweet baby. That is why I thought I would never own a pit but he was such a sweetheart as a pup. He was and still is real laid back.

Hash brown recipe simply scrumptious, I use crushed potato chips for the topping. I once used grated parmesan cheese (the kind you put on spaghetti) instead of grating it myself and it was absolutely delicious (expensive) but so easy. I also make a carrot cake with the crushed pineapple and use 2 jars of baby food carrots instead of shredding. (Lost that receipe someplace.) Just call me lazy, I guess. Gosh, now I have to go and stuff my face. You all make it sound so good, I can smell it cooking!
