Yes, I believe dreams have some type of meaning sm [2008-05-09]
especially when you remember them.
You know the snake is a sign of the evil one! Is there someone in your life who is acting evil? That one would scare me and I would probably pray a lot more, even though I am not the religious type.
Anyone believe dreams have meaning? [2008-05-08]
I normally brush off bad dreams but this one was strange. My 8 year old daughter dreamed that I had a big snake behind me, she told me to run but I didn The snake came up and started choking me and as I was choking I told her that I could taste apple.
Have you ever thought that your child had a dream with a message for you? I have an idea of what it might be about but I am wondering if I am making too much of it.

Need some ideas about insomnia. Don But, recently changed to day because I found if I got a good night Lucky to get day because it takes a lot of years usually to get it. No. It's a personality type to try to fix [2008-02-04]
things. A fixer (a male trait that some women have) doesn't realize it when a person is just asking for sympathy, not actual help. They think that by coming up with a practical solution, in this case, an honest way for you to make some cash and everybody to enjoy a little pampering for a small price, she has helped solve your problem. She has no idea this would be offensive and hurtful to you. If you complain she will be shocked because she honestly thought you were asking for help.
I had to figure this out because I have this trait and it's really hard for me to tell if somebody wants help or just a pity party.

This is not anything new to him. This is how he survives. Chances are that he does have another cash cow so to speak in the wings. Iso we could be together. Second time, I basically paid someone to be their friend for 3 years. I did everything in the world for him, mostly financial. I thought every time I helped him he would see what a great person I was and fall magically in love with me. How much is too much? [2008-08-20]
I like to have a glass of wine (sometimes two) or a bottle of the smirnoff ice (okay, so Ithose things (meaning the packs of smirnoffs or wine bottles) really fast. I don't think have 1-2 drinks every evening is a lot, but maybe it is!
Do you guys often have alcohol after work/with dinner, and if so, how much? My roommate tends to get really judgy (she makes faces at me like I should be watching more carefully, if I ever bring home chocolate or chips or junk food! Like I can't spoil myself now and then ) about some things, and alcohol is definitely one of them, but it doesn't seem excessive to me at all. Just made me curious what everyone else here does!

Need some advice about possible animal abuse sm (this is long) [2008-08-19]
my son rode school bus home with afriend to the friendhouse last friday (i had never been to their house, but his friend has been here once and i these people some like really nice people, very religious. i went to pick up my son friday evening and was a little shocked. had a weird vibe about the dad right off the bat. i dontheir house was ok, but i felt dirty when i left. he has a couple of dogs, one he says he doesn seems very lovable) and another dog that has puppies and he bragged listened to him very well. when i was getting ready to leave, this momma dog comes around to the front and seemed extremely scared, especially when he was by her. he was trying to show me how good his dog listened to him. but she was putting her head down, slouching down like he it made me feel so uncomfortable. i so the next day my son goes back for a b-day party. on the way to their house, my son tells me that the dad kicked the momma dog because she was eating the cat (the cat is really skinny too). when i got to the house i was able to get a better look at this dog because it was daylight and the poor thing looks so unhappy and her rear end area looks like her hair is coming off, i don i just felt so helpless for this dog.
i called my vet office and asked them who can i call if i suspect animal abuse (we don i but the look on the dog oh, another thing, when i was leaving there friday evening i said something about keeping the kittens (yes, they have kittens too) away so i don
so my question is do i get a hold of the police and tell them this???? i just want the dogs taken away. i want to be anonymous. i don the dad told me that this is the third litter of puppies for this momma dog since last november, and if he finds out who the daddy is ........ well i thought to myself, why don i was furious! i thought about writing a letter to the police station. what do you all think?
thanks
Good luck is all I can say...... [2008-08-19]
We don otherwise, they don't do their job. My mother has watched neighbors get one dog after the other, the puppies are leashed and literally die before her eyes of parvo. She repeatedly calls animal control, which are the police, and they don't do a thing. The dogs eventually die a miserable death and nothing is done to the owners at all. My brother finally flat out told one of her neighbors he would take a little mommy dog who had already had puppies after puppies and was starving to death. In 110 degree heat she doesn't even get water except from him who sneaks her some. They handed her over but she was already ate up with heartworms and died shortly thereafter. Our animal control is a joke...they won't even go into the yard to check out the animals. They say they can't.....so what the heck are they there for?
I just hope yours runs things better than ours...find out the laws in your state and be prepared to push those laws if you see nothing is being done.
Good luck!!!!!
bleeding [2008-08-17]
A quick way to help stop bleeding from a torn nail is to take some regular flour (whatever type you have on hand) and apply it. Such as put about a teaspoon full in the palm of your hand and stick the claw into it. Flour works just about as well as the Quick-stop the professionals use.
A couple ideas. [2008-08-16]
Here's a couple ideas...
First, if you have a hobby where you make things that can be fun. Imoney making part. I've made lots of table runners, bags, lap quilts, and other little things here and there for family and freinds. They all say I should go into business but I don't feel I'm that good yet, plus the expense to buy the supplies to make the projects would cut into any profit made. Another way to go which my mom (she got me into quilting) told me about is to purchase a quilting machine. They cost about $6K, but people charge $25/hour to have the quilts quilted (this is for large quilts like queen and king size and anything too big for your sewing machine). One of my freinds did a king size quilt for me and it took her 4 hours.
Second idea and this could really pay off is this. If you have a digital camera or scanner there are tons of ideas, most of which I have entertained and am still looking at this (just get caught up MTget into it). Anyway...with the digital camera you can take photos of people possesions for insurance purposes. I read on a website quite awhile ago that some people were looking for someone to take pics of their possesions so they would have a record of them for insurance purposes. Or another idea is if you love to take pics of anything and everything we have been looking at stock photography. If people like the pic and want to buy it you would get royalties. Another idea which I have started doing (not to make money though), but if people have slides or photos they want scanned in for whatever reason. I also have photoshop and have been restoring old worn out photos. I've also been scanning in slides that my DH's grandfather took of my DH and his siblings when they were growing up, and then more slides when they came to Germany to visit us. There are literally over 1000 slides for me to scan. Also they didn't take real good care so am using photoshop to get rid of a lot of spots, lighten/darken, fix colors and the results are fantastic. My husband says I really have a nack for this and has been encouraging me to take some more advanced photoshop classes to look for work using photoshop. I understand they pay quite well depending on the job. It's been a blast seeing my DH's childhood and I'm having a lot of fun organizing the pics. Once they are all scanned in, then I will be creating CD's to give to his siblings (he has 3 siblings), plus his mother.
Another idea I was thinking about, which my DH told me I should do is offer services to people to help put their photos and family history into albums for them to pass on to their children. There are lots of grandparents out there who have tons of intersting stories to tell, and am sure lots of wonderful photographs. I thought about putting together some kind of busness where I could record their stories and type it up and somehow match photos with stories. I'm doing that myself. I've been doing genealogy research now for the past 20+ years and am having a blast creating a family history album with stories and photos for myself (even though I don't have any children to pass it on to), but I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who just don't know where to begin. I don't know how much time that would take or what anyone would charge for it, but I think it would be fun.
Hope that helps a bit. Sometimes all one needs is a fresh idea (or two).
MTing can get tiring. Especially when the hands start cramping up. Everyone keeps saying you have to take frequent breaks, but if I take frequent breaks I don't get my work done and I don't get paid.

The application requires the applicant to fill in compensation desired (be specific). I was receiving 6.5 cents per line. The lines were not character driven but rather carriage return determined.I know I would make a lot less at this rate with a character driven line so I would want to ask higher than that, and I do know there is usually a different rate for editing. Can you tell me what the going rates are for each type of transcription, and what I should realistically put here. Any guidelines would be appreciated.

I wrote this:
>>> One of my dogs has a little bit of a problem with loud noises such as fireworks and thunderstorms. He doesn't get too terribly upset (likes to hide, refuses to go outside for awhile even after it's quieted down), but I happened to read an article about how using peppermint oil on the dog's paw pads helps to really calm them, so I'm going to give it a try this year.
It has to be real peppermint oil (not the kind found in the grocery store in the baking section), so I went to a local health food store and bought a bottle. You put the oil on a cotton pad, then put some on each of the dog's paws. I did a Google search and found a lot of comments from people saying it worked for their dog. (Just type in 'thunderstorms peppermint oil.') >>>
I can tell you, it worked! It lasted for about 3-4 hours. You might want to give it a try. You don't say how young your puppy is, but if he's really young, you might want to check w/your vet just to make sure it's safe to use on a puppy.
There is also some sort of vest that is sold that wraps around the dog and makes them feel secure. I haven't tried that though.
You also want to avoid unintentionally reinforcing the dog's fearful behavior by comforting/petting the dog too much when it's afraid. Just act like it's no big deal, and say positive things like 'You're okay, buddy!' and go on about your business. Also, I haven't looked at the links that the other poster gave you, but there is probably a lot of great info. there on Cesar Millan's (the Dog Whisperer) website. I love him!
Between a rock and a hard place - HELP! [2008-08-06]
Okay, back towards the end of last school year some mothers decided to have a coo at the elementary school and take over the PTO for this coming year from the ones that had been running it. Shortly after that, the now ex-pres moved in next to us. The neighbor across the street is now on the new PTO. Somehow, they didnoh you. Well, I let the principal know that I would and now am regretting it. I have a full-time job plus type part-time at night (switching to just weekends when school starts). My husband is gone during the week so that leaves me to take care of kids, homework, games and practices, etc. I get calls and emails all day long regarding PTO. I thought about just sticking it out for the school year (I do have the flexibility to be off or leave early, come in late from my full time job) because I really want to be more involved in the school since my child is going into the second grade. Well, the final straw was a few nights ago when a bunch of us parents were sitting in our driveways watching the kids playing. It wasn My husband went ballistic! We came in the house and he said that was uncalled for, we need to move, and that he SO, what do I do now? How doI gracefully back out but not get shunned from being up at the school and helping out with some activities?
The other story with that neighbor across the street that has bugged me this week - everything my child gets (we are not frivilous by any means), she makes sure her kids get the same things, even down to the exact same pair and color or tennis shoes for school, clothes, bicycles and now, the yard ornaments that we have had in our yard, i see she has bought some and are now in her yard also. I cringe now when I see her but I hate to keep my child from playing in the front yard just because her kids are out there (same age). Any ideas on this too???
What a crappy week!!!

ask lots of questions and listen. Personally i have seen such things. I have had dreams that gave me information in a supernatural way. but what he is saying could be as he says it is, or it could arise out of fear or some other emotion. so again, let him talk and listen. I would not make it into more than it is, or minimize it either.
no i wasn't offended :) sm [2008-08-04]
i feel like to each their own. my kids didn they slept in their own rooms and actually they fell asleep on their own very well. my second boy would sometimes spit up big time while sleeping, so i kept him close to me anytime he was sleeping, in his bassinet (gosh don't know how to spell that!!).
i see my hubby and his family and although they all love each other, there is no communication whatsoever in his family and they aren i want my boys to grow up knowing they can talk to me about anything and that i my hubby is the type that keeps EVERYTHING to himself. i i blame his family for not having open communication, and my hubby suffers from anxiety to a certain extent. his family situation is a whole nother chapter!

stress reduction [2008-07-29]
My ex-hub wrote some papers while he was doing his PhD in psychology on stress reduction. I typed his papers both before and after we were divorced. It made sense to me. One of the things he said that you work all week to make a paycheck to pay your bills. He said you have to consider yourself a bill out of your paycheck that needs to be paid just like any other bill that you owe. You need to pay a bill owed to yourself for hard work in the form of whatever you can afford out of each paycheck no matter what the amount that you may deem to afford meaning a new outfit, pedicure, meal out, movie, whatever makes you relaxed and feel happy. Set an amount aside even if it is just $20-$25. It gives you something to looks forward to. We have been divorced for 15 years, but I still remember this and still do this. It makes me feel good because I know I have to pay this bill to myself and it makes me feel good.

Question regarding mental retardation and other issues [2008-07-25]
My sister adopted a boy back in 1989 when he was just about a year old (from Paraguay). He She said he He was diagnosed before he ever went into grade school with mental retardation. Through the years my mom and sister were always defensive about it telling people thatspecial. Anyway....here it is 19 years later and he is getting worse and worse. Sis just called me from Maine on her last day of vacation and said he She said he has mood swings, happy one second miserable another. He won Whenever there is a thunder or lightening storm (which on the east coast is a monthly occurrence) he goes absolutely nuts...meaning, he runs around their house screaming at the top of his lungs make it stop, make it stop tell God I, then he runs around banging his head against the wall (btw - it rained every day they were on vacation). I went back 2 years ago and one night it started raining. Actually it hadn I was woken up early early that morning (bout 4 am) to the sound of screaming. My bedroom was on the first floor and they all were upstairs (they live in a 2 story colonial home). Anyway...I kept hearing screaming and screaming and I thought something happened to one of them so I yelled up to make sure they were all okay. Sis yells down that there are some dark clouds in the distance and she Hemake it stop, I can. I fell back asleep only to be woken by my nephew standing at the side of my bed saying I can It and his hands were clenched in fists. Then he started hittingpunching himself in the head. I could hear my sis and her husband talking upstairs so knew they were okay, but all I could picture was him standing over them with a knife after hethen stand there like that saying I couldn He Anyway...to make a long story short years ago they brought someone to the house to try and find out what I kept telling her he may need to be on medication, but they had no health insurance so never did anything about it. This morning she called me and said she is going to have some counselers from her church (she She said they charge but not as much as regular ones (outside their church - they charge according to what you can afford). Anyway...she said he is horrible horrible horrible, and she called him a little pri*k. She said even her husband said to her you and Dan don. She said he won They were giving him $50 a day allowance while on vacation this past week and he would demand it every morning before they had a chance to get out of bed. She said they would hide their wallets after he fell asleep because he just goes in and steels money from them. I asked her if I heard that right. I said $50 a day? I said if she held back his allowance for 3 days that would have paid for an hour of counseling. She said to me I dongoing to do it they tell me he I said would you rather have him diagnosed and on medication or know that he has something he needs medication for and he I said itand for her and her husbands sanity she Sis turned 50 this year and her husband is 64. I said this is not what they need at this time of their lives. Also, last October they adopted a little girl from China (she She would get a happy meal at McD At one time this week they asked him if he was upset because they adopted the girl and he said no. They asked what the problem was and he said nothing, leave me alone. My BIL seems to think that maybe Dan realizes that he I just told her either way, she has got to get some help for him because he could get worse and worse. Once I told her that I was worried about the safety of she and her husband if they didn
Anyway...I don Sis has talked about some day comeing out for a visit and hanging out at our place, but there is no way in you know where my DH would allow that. I am very intolerable of my nephew. When I go back to visit her he gets on my nerves something really bad. The thing is he does things on purpose to urk them and then he But I get him back because I tattle on him to his parents. HA HA - Okay, I But after being around him for about 15 minutes is enough for me. There is nothing that is nice about that kid. I I love them dearly and they are the nicest kids (sometimes better well behaved than kids without disabilities). Anyway...because I know I can Nephew also has a bowel problem and goes to the bathroom in his pants often, so that woudn
Anyway...don Always afraid of saying the wrong thing to her. Anyway...just had to vent about that. I do hope they get him some help but not sure if they will (it's been 16 years since they should have first gotten him help.
His book was really good [2008-07-25]
He has nice quick little stories constituting his book with words of wisdom thrown in. His book has really changed some of my outlook on things--I have three kids nearly the same ages as his children and a husband who is 2 years older than Randy Pausch. (I'm quite a bit younger.) One (or both) of us possibly could be in a situation like his--you just never know, so live your childhood dreams and leave something for your kids to be proud of...
Anyway, I wholeheartedly recommend his book. I haven't been picking up books too much (except to study), but I was drawn to his book sitting there in the new section of my library's shelf. I'm glad I took the couple of hours to read it. It's a quick and interesting read.
Above all, I hope his death was peaceful and as painless as possible and that his wife and children have wonderful memories of him.
Your observations are right on [2008-07-25]
I think she has not fully researched getting help for people with disabilities. I guess I kept saying retarded because is shorter than writing out mental retardation. Thatspecial or slow, but to me itmental retardation. Forget exactly what percentage capacity they diagnosed him at but that was what it was.
As for why they would bring a 2 year old or any other child into this situation is beyond my comprehension, and beyond my father's, my aunt's, my cousin's, my friends's, her friends, my in-laws, etc. I never said anything to her before they adopted because my aunt and a lot of her friends would give her their opinions about how they didn't think it's a good idea when they are always having trouble (sometimes financially but most of the time with the nephew), but sis would call me in tears after they would openly tell her what their viewpoints were and she would be crying because its all she's ever wanted was to have another child, and how all her freinds at church have at least 4 and 5 kids, etc, etc). I would tell her that I cannot advise her because I am not in her situation financially or dealing with the nephew, but told her that with me being 49 years old I would not do it. I just told her for me I am too old and couldn't take having a kid around me all the time. I think sis has some emotional problems herself. She feels that having a young kid around will keep her and her husband young. They love doing things all the time (I don't think they could stand to be home in their house for a whole day without going out). They always have to be out doing something (I'm 100% opposite - I never want to leave my house). Anyway...there's a lot they can't afford and they should have never adopted in the first place but that is my opinion. I only told my dad that once and he agreed with me totally but said you can't tell her anything and she gets defensive. So to answer the last part - they weren't thinking. My aunt has called me several times and always says that. Mom died 4 years ago. I think if she was alive she would have talked to sis and given her some feedback.
Well right now I'm seeing if I can find any type of centers back there that help people with nephews problems and his condition. If it was me I would say ditch the nephew and keep the niece. HA HA. Nephew keeps saying how he wants to live on his own, but sis says he has also said that is so he can walk around naked all day, watch cartoons, eat and play with his power rangers without anyone telling him to do anything.
All I say is I'm glad I'm not in their shoes. I like my peaceful environment and I know what my limits are both with people and financial. They just go on a day by day whatever happens happens way of life.

My mother is eldery and I know she does not have much time. She has chronic renal failure and much more. She hangs on, but is constantly losing weight, and now not eating much of anything for the past weeks. She drinks Ensure twice a day and has juice for breakfast, and tries very hard to eat some dinner in the evening.
I am not handling things and have been severely depressed and have gained 25 pounds and simply don I want to seek some type of help or counseling for myself to pull out of this and to be able to handle what is coming. Withjob problems, my own health issues and my motherCan someone recommend a good place to start? A friend suggesed contacting Hospice to help me deal with this. Any help you can give will be very appreciated. I have tried every antidepressant available and I cannot tolerate any of them. Thanks.
SUCCESS !!! :D - (sm) [2008-07-16]
Thanks again for your help. You were right: first turn on water, then power. I just ran my first load, and have just my first load of clean clothes in the dryer (which also works well), all without flooding the apartment, incinerating the clothes or the washer motor, electrocuting myself, or knocking out the power to the entire town. Because of my inherently distrustful nature, though, I WAS prepared for disaster. I had the drain tube weighted down in the sink with a heavy pot, so that it wouldn't jump out of the sink and flood the floor. I kept the slack in the electrical cord up off the floor, just in case. I created a 'floor dam' out of big towels around it, just in case the tub leaked. Finally, I put a wooden stool in front of the washer, so I could stand on it just in case the floor flooded, all he*l broke loose, and I had to somehow get to the cord to disconnect it from the power source without getting myself toasted. Fortunately, none of that extra preparation was needed. I also got online and did my homework about detergents. Good thing I did! Turns out these little mini-guys take only liquid detergent of the 'HE' (high-efficiency), low sudsing type. (I'm SO glad I didn't mistakenly put my regular-sudsing powder into it!) Not only that, but according to my online gurus, the washer only needs one TEASPOON of detergent per load. One teaspoon! Imagine that! One bottle of Wisk or Tide will probably last half a year, at that rate!
So HURRAH! No more trips to that filthy, noisy, total RIP-OFF laundrymat! No more wasted time & gasoline! (Except for when I have to wash heavy things like comforters or blankets, that is, but at least that doesn't have to be done that often, especially with those wonderful, lightweight, sheet-like duvet covers!) I can wash sheets, towels & duvet covers in the washer.
Now, if I could just learn how to fold fitted sheets! (I always try, then finally give up, and wad them up into a corner somewhere.

He sat for the exam within 1 semester of graduating with Bachelor of Accounting. sm [2008-07-11]
He did not have to have any type of approval, other than of course to pay the money to take the exam and schedule it for the next date it was available.
Okay - I'm not complaining now [2008-07-10]
Sounds like you got it worse than me, so no complaints here. Just canoh barkley I can. My DH and I gave each other the high five (is that bad or what), but then we heard the kid say to his parents Barkly busted the pool. I don. We felt so bad for the dog and thought about how we could innocently talk to them and say something about too bad your bratty unruly kid was egging the dog on having him jump in and out of the pool. :-) We just stay out of it.
Anyway...I'll bet you can't wait to move back to your place in the country. Your neighorhood kids sound like they need to be in juvee hall, so I won't be complaining about the brat next door anymore. Hopefully you'll get to move soon.
