American Girl Products [2008-10-05]
Thanks for all the help you can give me. It looks like this is going to be a project to bring the collection in under budget by Christmas but I just can't afford to buy new and Santa won't be able to help out this year.

This happened to MY GIRL in 2nd grade . . . sm [2008-10-01]
actually, the girl threatened to stab her with her pencil. My daughter went to the teacher who was an old burned out substitute that day and the teacher told her to sit down and get to work, would not even listen to her. Needless to say I went ballistic. Of course, the girl who was threatening to stab my daugther was a problem child (they always are, who else would do this?). My daughter was moved away from this child and never sat next to her again, because I saw to it that it happened that way. And btw, I personally believe calling the mother would only frustrate you more. Why do you think this child acts this way? You would be only arguring against ignorance and there is no point to frutstrate yourself further. Tell your child to stay away from this child and insist upon their separation in the classroom.

if MTStars wasn't an MTSO 'feedback' (i.e. 'spy') vehicle for ADHI and the like. Still possible, I suppose, but to be able to be a bit nasty & sarcastic (when it's deserved) is truly cathartic. Then we can get back to work with at least a small bit of relief from the annoyance lots of us feel at this profession
My little girl is never getting out of the house!...sm [2008-09-11]
I have a 13 yr daughter, 14 and 16 yr boys. I Already she goes to the movies with girlfriends and skating and things but I For 2 reasons. The main reason is that I remember myself at 16 and in no way, shape or form do I want her doing ANYTHING I did then! I I know she The number 2 reason is because of all the freaks that are out there these days. Yeah they were there when I was growing up but now a days you can
On the other hand, I have some relief because her older brother is very protective and he watches her like a hawk. It Boys are afraid to go out with her because of him! lol. survey on sixteen year old girl curfews - sm [2008-09-10]
Just taking a survey from all you parents of 16 yo girls out there...what is your curfew for your teen? Do you let her go out during the school week? If so, how often and what time does she need to be back? What about Friday and Saturday nights? Thanks for participating.

melanine in wheat gluten meant for pet food, wouldn't have any problem at all, I'm sure, falsifying age documents if it means getting a gold medal, especially in THEIR OWN COUNTRY. The ambition to look good in the eyes of the world and their own country, not to mention the fact that how EASY would it be to get away with it in their own country as opposed to another country, and I'd be very, very surprised if all of those girls aren't underage.
Of course, I applaud them on their excellent performances - they kicked our butts yesterday. But if that government truly does yank the kids out of school at 3 to be forced to be gymnasts, then it's possible the girls themselves don't even know their true ages. Might have been lied to about their ages as soon as they showed Olympic potential.

And please, no one comment on how THEIR daughter is so good and would never do anything wrong, how you have to trust kids and give them their space, or state that this is a different time than when we were young. 90% of 16 year olds are ridiculously immature. Oh, and even good girls get pregnant, drink and take drugs, even if they are on the honor roll, have a part time job and help around the house. Be a good mother and say no...you don't have to justify your decision..you are the mother.

I can't blame you about the bill. That was unconscionable to be so petty about the money. They're lucky their dog wasn't put down and they should know it.
About your daughter - I wouldn't dismiss out of hand getting her a dog. Not right away, of course, but after some time has passed. Let me explain.
I saw my sister attacked by a dog when I was five, and although I wasnmagic cure for your daughter's fear as she finds out that most dogs are friendly and loveable.
This also worked for our son, who was nine when we got our first puppy. He was so scared that he actually spent the afternoon in the garage rather than come into the house with Sam (who incidentally was a three month old golden retriever!). Now he owns his own dog and is considering going into veterinary medicine.
Good luck to you and your family. And I pray the owners of the dog that attacked your daughter have an attack of conscience and do the right thing by your family.

Andy & Jenna [2008-11-15]
no, they are not the same breed. I got Andy (laughing boy) at a shelter when he was about 8 months old. No idea what breed he is. Have had people guess retriever, greyhound, ridgeback. He has some spots on his tongue so I figure some Chow but I'm not really seeing it. He is a wildman, a real play-maniac & my arm was falling off from throwing the Kong, so I figured he needed a playmate. I got Jenna (serious girl on the left) at a different shelter. They told me she was part collie & part lab. That pic was taken right after she came home with us. She has gotten much more playful & interactive & has her own sweet smile. When I first got her she wanted to hide all the time & was afraid of everything. She & Andy get along great. They still have some shelter baggage but they get both happier & happier every day, even Andy, who looks in the picture like it's not possible to get any happier. But it is. :D

my first two believed in santa and my last girl did to till she was about 6. I really regreted telling her about santa because she was SO MAD that we LIED to her. She was really really upset with us, not that there wasnt a santa but that we lied to her. So, after that was over with we still celebrate christmas focused on Jesus. They are still just as excited about christmas, they just know the truth. she has to be careful though around her friends who believe!

Do you know if it is a boy or a girl?
A little off topic, but [2008-11-13]
I was out to lunch one day with my DH and on my way home I came upon a crash that had just happened at an intersection...one of the drivers was a young girl (she happened to go to the same HS as my DD). The other driver was a 30-something mother of 2 or 3. The young girl had run a red light and T-boned the other car. The mother was instantly killed in the crash, with 2 of her children in the car with her. When the teen girl got out of her car...yep, she was on the phone...! And obviously she was not calling 911! So sad...my DD said this girl went off the wall after this accident.
Been there done that [2008-11-13]
If you haven't already, read books about Adult Children of Alcoholics. My dad was a serious alcoholic who managed to hold down 2 full time jobs. He was either coming home drunk in the middle of the night and waking up everyone fighting with my mother, or when he would have a day off, he was an awesome fun Dad. He never drank at home or in front of us. So it was very confusing.
Fast forward many years, at 63 he was diagnosed with cirrhosis and bleeding ulcers and had an emergency subtotal gastrectomy because he almost died. From there on, he stopped drinking because he had to, not because he wanted too. He died less than 3 years later.
He lived with me for the last 2 years and I took care of him, and we became very close. It didn't erase all the bad stuff, but I was at peace when he died.
I would try to make amends with your Dad now and let go of the past, because to put it bluntly you are a big girl now and you can't be angry about your childhood forever. It is not healthy.
jss: Do you remember seeing an [2008-11-13]
old reenactment about a girl who went upstairs to bed with her Siamese cat? A man broke in and the cat attacked him when he was coming up the stairs. It was too funny; that cat latched on and stayed on him down the road, drawing blood every step of the way!
My most memorable Christmas - [2008-11-12]
Well, actually I have two -
When I was younger (back during the last recession in the 80s), we had moved to Texas for my dad to find work in construction. My family was really homesick and wanted to come back where we were from and decided to move right around Christmas time. Therefore, we were told there would be no Christmas at your house that year. However, on Christmas morning we got up and all had a present that we had really wanted - mind you it was only 1 present, but that was the best present!!!
The next one was when I had first married and my husband was a soldier and we moved away from our family the first week of December. At Christmas, there was no money for presents (not even cards), barely any food to eat, and we had a daughter who was 1. Well, on Christmas morning, the neighbor we had never even spoken to, came over and invited us to dinner with her family and she had bought us a present. I will never forget it. She got us a salt and pepper shaker set and had bought a doll for my baby girl.
Cute! [2008-11-12]

"It's the thought that counts" - sm [2008-11-11]
Anyone who thinks enough of you to give you anything at all, deserves a heart-felt 'thank you'. All it means in the end is that they gave you something to let you know you mean something to them.
When I was a kid, a girl I knew had about 30 friends she wanted to give a holiday card to, and only had 15 cards. And no money to buy more.
So, she tore each card in half, and gave each half to all 30 of her friends. Sure, you got a printed message that either said,
'Merry Chr-
an-
Happy Ne-',
or else you got one that said,
'-istmas
-d a
-w Year'.
But each half had a personal, handwritten holiday message to the recipient on it, and we all treasured our half-cards as much as if they'd been whole, because of the person that gave them to us.
So, it really is the though that counts!
You all have made me feel better already [2008-11-10]
I have cried off an on since last night. Not just a whimpy cry...I mean a REAL cry. One minute I feel like I am in control, the next, I feel like a 13 year old girl whose friends all went out and didn't invite her...kinda childish, huh?
i dont care [2008-11-10]
I hate that now in GA it is state law that they have to have it at age 13. You know statistically girls have already had sex by that age, which is VERY SAD. First they said only girls that have not been sexually active and now it is for any girl who wants it. Very confusing. I am just so sick about the government stepping in on this. If my daughters and I feel that they need to have it, then it should be up to us, not some fat guy sitting in an office saying it is better for us. I think more studies should have been done before they made ita law. That is all. Other then that I feel that it is like any other shot... some people dont get flu shots every year... are flu shots bad? Can they make you sick, yes sometimes, but people should not be forced into a flu shot!

unstable? LOL [2008-11-08]
Hey just to let you know I go to this girl's house when I get the chance to & her pitbull is a very grounded, well-behaved dog. As far as ownership, I believe she is one of the best owners I have ever seen as far as pitbulls go. When she got her pitbull realizing all of the controversy that surrounds the breed she really did her homework & researched the breed thoroughly to get a good understanding of every aspect. She introduces her pitbull to strangers in a way that she knows he is comfortable to meet them & he is fine after that. It is all in knowing your dog's personality and what he/she likes/dislikes. I would just like to say that her dog couldn't ask for a better owner & she couldn't ask for a better dog.

My sons are 18 and 20. [2008-11-04]
One lives at college and the other is living at home while attending college. When they were both at home and under 18 I had the same rules as you, basically. During the week, except for their activity obligations of school, sports, scouts, they didnhang out time. It did help that their high school was in the next county, and most of their school friends lived some distance away. When girlfriends came along, life was a little different. My oldest dated a girl who lived down the street. My youngest dated a girl who lived a good 30-minute drive away. Lucky for me, their parents had the same rules for hanging out. It was pretty much weekends only. My boys accepted it all in stride. But I have to say that I've been pretty strict about their attitude all of their lives. Since they first began to speak, they learned not to give attitude to their parents. In return, we always treated them with respect. The few times that they did raise their voices as teenagers, our conversation came to an end, and their requests were denied with no chance for a reversal of that decision. Worked nicely. But, again, I have to say we were very lucky in that most of their friends weren't right in our neighborhood and their girlfriends had the same rules.
The payoff is that now as responsible young adults, they've developed a good work ethic. Even my son living at college does well managing his free time, and will be an RA in his dorm next year, partly because he's shown maturity and isn't goofing off at college. (And I'm glad not to have to pay all of the room and board! Hooray!)
Thank you! [2008-11-04]
Thank you for your thoughts and ideas. I agree with you. Unfortunately, I think the school adminstrater is part of the problem. She has gotten kicked out of several schools and let boys beat up a girl on the playground not too long ago. She sits by and does nothing or covers it up!
Still more... [2008-11-03]
Why do new socks come in a ziploc package??? *someone mentioned that a while back but I just noticed it today
Why did the waittress come by and ask us this morning if we were going to want more to drink when our drinks were nearly empty and we were just half way through the our plate of food??? ...well duh!!
...and then why did she ask dh a few minutes later if he was going to be needing his fork when he had finished his first plate of food, laid it on his napkin and was getting up to go get some fruit at the food bar??? *guess they didn't want us to eat more than one plate. LOL
....and why tonight after church when we stopped at Dairy Queen and I order a chicken strip basket and asked for some Sweet and Sour sauce did the girl ask me if I didn't want my gravy??? What does that have to do with sweet and sour sauce. LOL
paint [2008-11-02]
How come that she spilled this paint on the floor?
Was there no cover on the can?
The mother of the girl is not responsible for what happens in your house.
Also not that she dragged all the paint into your house.
If you have children as guests in your house, you are responsible for what happens and you have to supervise them.
Where were you? Where were you wandering around?
If something happened to the child, it could have been your responsibility.
You should have secured this can of paint before the children arrive.
I just did a very quick google search and...sm [2008-11-02]
several people said scrubbing nail polish remover worked for them (not for others). Unfortunately, you seem to have quite a mess to deal with. IF it does work, maybe you could get the girl to come back and help clean it up? A good chance to teach the girl that inappropriate behaviors bring consequences, a lesson she does not seem to be learning from her parents. Good luck with that carpet.
Caroling sm [2008-11-02]
I haven't caroled since my Girl Scout days and that was many moons ago, but I just remember being given hot chocolate at a few houses, no money. It's just a charitable thing, I wouldn't worry about it. Perhaps you could have some candy treats on hand to give them should they come back this year, just a little something to show your appreciation - not money. I could be wrong, think money would be insulting. Perhaps some home baked cookies in baggies - as if you have time!!
Good idea! [2008-10-31]
Next time I will take photos. The kindergarten teacher tried to get this kid the appropriate help but the school administration stood in the way. It's horrible. All the kindergarten parents were upset -- we even went to the papers. Nothing worked. This bully hit a girl on the head last year with a chair. He didn't get punished. I'm wondering what happened to the Zero Tolerance policy?
Any advice for lice? - sm [2008-10-30]
My kids came home with this almost 2 months ago, got rid of them (I think---all 4 of us had them and 3 of us are clean now), but 2 weeks ago my older daughter had a new outbreak.I have treated 3-4 x with Rid and Nix (Nix the second time around per doctor), olive oil, and listerine/vinegar. Called the doctor again last night begging for the prescription (they don My daugher Now the doctor wants me to try 50:50 of mineral oil and vinegar.Icould not do it lastnight as I had already had her wash her hair after I found the 2 lice (did Nix again last night).I am so sick of these things. I have washed, and washed, and washed, vacuumed, etc. until I never want to wash or vacuum another thing in my life. My kids stuffed animals, etc. have been bagged up in the garage now for 8 weeks.....never undid them luckily....so at least I had a little less to do this time. ----the other thing that tics me off is the girl next to my daugher on the bus has them too, probably from mine but who knows, and the policy is that the child has to contain their hair for a week or two until the nurse declares her clean. This girl is not pulling her hair back in a ponytail because she does not like them. I complained to the nurse once, and am doing so again today. So that probably is not going to change soI had the bus driver move my daughter today from that seat....they sit 3 to a seat and they are mashed together, hence easy transfer of a bug crawling from one head to another. My daughter was not happy about it, but this other girls mother is convince they are cured asshe put listerine on her daughter If one time fixed it then lice would notbe such a problem. I really think this lady is in LA la land considering the trouble I am having, and I have combed, and combed too, so I am not doing the half-assssseeedddd either. So does anyone have anything that they swear by? I know I could make my kid go to bed with mayo on her head for 10 days straight and that would in theory eradicate them, or any smothering agent, and it may come to that, but if anyone has anything else, please feel freeto tell!
