Get it checked [2008-06-22]
To help you not worry. I had a lump once in the groin and it was because of a urinary tract infection. Although it sounds like yours is related to the bug bite. Better safe than sorry, I would just have the doc look at it.

You'd better get checked out. [2008-06-10]

have you checked how damp your houseplants are? Before you laugh..see msg. LOL [2008-06-09]
Where I work we had a problem with gnats. Somebody thought to Google gnats. Evidently if your houseplants are too wet, they live in the dirt. Or something like that...anyway..they went out and bought 100 pounds of sand and everybody with plants got some and put it over the top of the dirt in the plants. Worked like a charm. Hope this helps.

As an IC, I don't think they are allowed to have you on a set schedule. Other companies have [2007-11-16]

He declared he had taken care of that. He knew the child support was not coming out and he Just don't trust him at all-- Good point about being independent. Just so hard to do it all on her own. Schedule with kids [2007-10-13]
I was in the same position. After a lot of years I figured out what works pretty good for me, and my company allows it, so does the hospital. I put my son to bed. I often nap then until about 1 or 2 a.m. Then, I work until 6:30 or 7 a.m. (already got 5 hours in!). I take him to school, and in the morning if I am not tired, I will run errands, work on the house, do something fun. I usually take a nap around noon and then I will work after he is done with his homework from 4:30 to 6:30 (my hubby makes dinner).. that is 7 hours plus 1 hour off for lunch. I also then work on the weekend a few hours to get 40 when I need it, but that is usually in the early morning, so I can spend some time with my husband. Plus I get to spend time with him anway, and after he falls asleep, then I work. It sounds very complicated but it really isn't. And you actually get time for yourself at least to relax for a time, instead of working 8 hours straight and then chores and kids, etc. Good luck! Remember it is tough to be a woman who does too much :).

Of course, this is after you have her checked out by your vet - nm [2007-10-12]

Unbelievable sm [2008-07-02]
$87 was all they planned to give us. Her medical bills totalled $800, $87 was our portion. The other portion we figured for pain and suffering. We always wanted to getpain and suffering for our daughter. This was no surprise to the owner. Read the thread. I don My daughter was standing on the sidewalk in front ofthe ownerhouse when the dog attacked her. Again, if you will read the thread you Her dog has been loose on more than one occasion since the attack without a leash. The police were called, and there is a police report, along with ER and doctor notes. It is unbelievable how uncaring people are here on this board. Even though my daughter didn This is an 8-year-old child. The owners should be penalized because they are allowing their dog to be loose without a leash on a street filled with young children. I don't have any sympathy for them. It amazes me how people on this board show much more compassion for the dog that attacked my daughter than for my daughter. No one seems to care that this dog has been loose since the attack or that there were no penalties for this owner. The dog has never been impounded. A friend of mine lives next door to a dog that bit someone, and that dog was never impounded either. I think I I have been coming here for years, but for people to be so cruel here to my daughter especially is just unimaginable to me. I will do whatever I have to do to make my daughter feel safe in her own neighborhood. I have consulted with an attorney and will probably proceed in small claims court unless this owner wants to try to settle this with us. I pray that nothing like this ever happens to any of your children or family members. It It I'm done here.

Again, what will you accomplish by [2008-07-01]
That If it wasn If you were that upset about the dog being loose again, you would be concentrating your efforts on getting the dog impounded rather than seeing a lawyer and finding out how to settle with their homeowner It Your daughter is reliving this incident because you are playing it over and over again for her. I This reminds me of when I used to work in an office. We actually had a mother bring in a disability form for her 13-year-old, who had tinnitus or some other benign disorder, and wanted it filled out so she could start getting benefits for him. People are always looking for a way to get rich quick - it's the American way.

We just bought a Prius and I will NEVER own anything but hybrid now! [2008-06-30]
We took our Prius from Philadelphia to Yellowstone Nat'l Park. Two weeks of driving, 5300+ miles on 10 fill ups of about 10 gallons each time. In fact, I filled up in Pittsburgh and am still driving around here at home on that tank of gas. Pretty much all of that trip was on interstate highways across the plains and up into the high mountains, and we still got close to or over 50 mpg. Our town mileage is even higher! It husband and 6 son are very comfortable driving this car. It's quiet, handles very well, and has lots of nifty gadgets for the base model, which is what we bought. The downside is that there is an 8-month wait for one in our area, and they just recently upped the price a few hundred dollars. But we love it, and found it to be great on the highway AND in town.

Just some pros and cons of private college [2008-06-24]
Pros Academic excellence. At the private university learning is the emphasis more than the curriculum itself. The curriculum is rigorous and the course-work is unending, but learning is the central focus at such schools. If you plan on working during school, it is very difficult to balance a full-time schedule at a private university with a work schedule. The time commitment required to succeed in a given class is high, and this will ultimately interfere with your ability to work. Close-knit community. The student community is an integral part of most private colleges. This can be difficult for more independent students who prefer a less hands on approach. The students communicate closely with professors both in and out of class and the students themselves attempt to involve everyone in campus activities. Involvement in the student community is one of the keys to enjoying your college experience at a private college. Involved students. The classroom dynamic is much different at a private university than at a public school. Most students are entirely committed to their academic success. They participate actively in classroom discussions, complete coursework, and are fully engaged in the classroom culture. Top-notch professors. Like the professors at state universities, the instructors at private universities have track records that attest to their personal academic achievements. While most are reputable, professors at private colleges tend to be more loyal to the college they work for and more interested in the achievements of their students. Merit scholarships. The listed tuition is the highest at private colleges; however, what students actually pay for tuition is usually lower. When a student is interested in a private university and the school is interested in the student, both parties begin negotiating tuition by way of grants, merit scholarships, and other financial incentives. Thus, students with a good G.P.A. and knock out test scores should consider applying to any private institutions that they are interested in. Class size. Even at larger private colleges the class size is contained. There are still lecture halls, but typically, fewer teaching assistants and more professors. At small private colleges classes can be as small as 10 or 12 students. Cons Homogeneous population. If you are looking for a more diverse student body that recruits kids from all walks of life, you aren’t likely to find it at a private college. If you are interested in a particular university, check it out first. It’s definitely a good idea to get a feel for what type of students they attract and their current student body is a good indicator. Demanding schedule. The heavy workload makes it difficult to balance extracurricular activities, a job, and a social life at a private college. It’s a good idea to identify your priorities before setting out to attend a school that cost $30 thousand a year. Your parents will appreciate your consideration and you will avoid unnecessary conflicts. Cost of tuition. Tuition is high, even for a good education. If money is no object—go private. If finances are a primary concern, consider all of your alternatives before committing yourself to a decade of debt. Transferring credits. Private universities each have different crediting methods. If the university that you choose doesn’t work for you it may be difficult to transfer and retain all the credits you have earned.

First... I don't claim him. I think he's a tyrant to put it nicely and I think he is a warmonging hillbilly (and that's sad for the hillbillies because they are decent folk he gives a bad name). I told everyone not to vote for him last time... I tried to warn them. I didn't want him and he hasn't done anything to help me our my friends and family in the slightest, except make us look ridiculous on the international stage (which I can say because I live in Europe at the moment and I know how foolish they think us right now). Second, good for you. Maybe you should vote for McCain so that the pain (errr I mean pleasure) never ends. I bet the people that he's been against and not fought for (i.e., Katrina victims, Iowa flood victims, homosexuals, people with diseases that stem cell reasearch could help, innocent people in far off lands that lost family members and friends who were innocent victims) I bet they all share your same sentiments.. right? You can have him.. I bet right about now he's half price on the discount rack anyways! Third... you should be grateful she put creatrue. Its probably how Bush spells and says it, so its a true representation. Fourth... I think the last time I checked it was a free country with free speech and allowed for people to have their own opinions. I have better names to call him than childish ones... but I won't use them since your so easily offended... are you his personal emotional filter? I doubt he cares what the American people call him... he's certainly proven he doesn't care what they think or how they feel... so why should we care about him? Thanks back atcha. I can have whatever opinion I want of the president and I can tell you, I am more the majority than you are.

My lab mix was pee trained in one day at about 6 weeks old, only a few poo accidents- sm [2008-06-20]
As soon as I got Walter home, the very second we got out of the car I put him down in the yard where I wanted his potty place to be and he peed immediately. Then I put him on a schedule where I religously put him in the potty place as soon as he woke up from a nap, about 15-20 minutes after eating, and before we went to bed. I also kept an eagle eye on him almost consistently for the first week or so (not hard because he was so cute)... he stayed on a dog bed in my office when I was working and the instant he started sniffing at anything I picked him up and took him to the potty place... a couple times I was running with him and he started to dribble before I got there. Sniffing means he is looking for a place to go! Make no bones about it, he is not doing anything else! As far as pooing, puppies go pretty consistently about a half hour after eating. They have really tiny bladders so you can count on this. No matter what I was doing we went outside at that time. Whever I heard a tiny whine I take him to potty place. I figured he had a belly ache just like a baby might and usually he would go number two. The few times he did poo in the house was my fault. I ignored the whining or was not paying attention. I swear to you... Walter has never ever ever peed in my house. But to be honest, when he was a puppy whenever I brought him to visit another house he almost instantly peed out of nerves. So embarrassing. When I realized he did that I had him meet my friends outside of their homes! He would wiggle in delight but pee. But for the first few weeks, I never left this dog alone at all and my big priority was to get him housebroken asap. You may not have that option if you have to leave for work or something. Walter went with me on errands and whenever I let him out of the car he would pee. So he also loves riding in the truck because he did it so much. When I got Walter he was a little under 6 weeks old... pretty young. So I think I became his mom pretty quick and he was pretty moldable. I have made plenty of mistake, though, like letting him sleep on my bed and now he is 120 pounds and still does that. I don Good luck!

Thanks! [2008-06-20]
Only 1 accident today and that was first thing this morning. I

OK all you animal lovers... [2008-06-19]
We have a Basset hound puppy, around 7-8 weeks old; we We are trying to crate train her, but she just can We take her out on a regular schedule, feed her on a regular schedule, and make sure she poopies and pees before she comes back in, but it never fails that she will, at least once a day, poopie in her crate...SO DISGUSTING! I'm at my wit's end and ready to give her up, but she's sooo adorable, I really don't want to. Of note, I am not a huge animal person, can take them or leave them, but she stole my heart and I love her! I seriously am looking for some answers here.

Wait a minute. She's only 7-8 weeks old...sm [2008-06-19]
You've only had her a week, and you expect her to be housetrained already? And you're already thinking about giving her up because she isn't? WOW! Boy are you in for a surprise - if you keep her, that is, which at this point I'm not sure is the best thing for her, unless you're willing to adjust your expectations and do a bit of a 'crash course' in puppies/dogs. And please be honest with yourself, because if you don't keep her, it's much easier to find her a home while she's still young. First of all, it's totally unrealistic to expect no 'accidents' from such a young puppy. She is *very* young. In fact, it sounds like she's doing remarkably well for being so young! It isn't *physiologically* possible for a puppy to be 100% pottytrained until about... 4 months of age, if I remember correctly. They don't have the muscle control to hold it more than... 4 hours, I think it is? (I'm going by memory, so I'll have to look that up.) So, my next question is, how long does she have to stay in the crate w/o a potty break? Because it is extremely unusual for dogs to soil their living area - unless they either have no choice and can't physically hold it anymore, (or if they came from a puppy mill/pet store where they had no other choice but to go in their cage and so get in that habit), OR if her crate is so large that she can go in one section and then go off to another section and be away from it. (If that's the case, you can use a crate divider.) But as young as she is, she probably just can't hold it for more than a couple hours at a time. I had a great site for potty training stuff. Let me find it and post again later. It does s/l you're doing everything else right as far as keeping her on a regular schedule. For now, I'd suggest that she commes out of the crate for a potty break at least every 2 hours, or immediately if you see her start to sniff around in her crate or otherwise act like she's going to go in her crate. BTW, she should have stayed with her mother and littermates until *at least* 8 weeks of age, which tells me you didnleave them hanging so to speak, because it's the puppy that suffers. Okay, enough of my ranting.

Thinning of hair [2008-06-14]
I have had my thyroid checked and it is perfectly okay, and as for the drying problem, we live in Florida where our water is very, very harsh and if you don't have a water softener attached to your system your hair dries out quickly, which is why I use conditioner. My hairdresser said that was why my hair was thinning out too. I keep my hair now semi-long and love it that way. Since I have taken better care of my hair and use better products my hair does not appear thin or dry.

You'd better get checked out. [2008-06-10]

People like you are why I have a problem with religous nut cases. The last time I knew God = love. God loves all his children no matter what. You are just filled with judgement and self-righteousness. I believe that if someone is being physically abused of course remove them. If they are living the ways their religion believes and it is not hurting anyone leave them alone. So what if they wear funny clothes and their hair looks funny to outsiders. What gives one religion the right to dictate how another lives. Yes I know polygamy is illegal, children marrying and having sex with adults is disgusting in my opinion, but we should try and understand each other. I heard a quote one time that said Don. We are not The Creator and we should not be judging people. Let the courts handle it when they've got something legitimate and solid to work with.

UTIs....... [2008-05-28]
Our old male cat started doing this. We took him to the vet and they kept him to get a urine sample and sure nuf, he did have a UTI. Vet says males are extremely vulnerable for this and if they get clogged up in the ureter, the kidneys shut down. Now, this did happen to our yonger male, seemed perfectly healthy one day, disappeared for two days, came back meowing loudly and wouldn't stop. He looked like he had lost tons of weight in just 2 days. The vet checked his BUN and creatinine and said if he had been human, he would be in a coma....he didn't know how the cat was still alive. He had little crystals on his backside, a telltale sign of problems. They flushed him to clear out the crystals which had clogged him up and by the next morning, he was better but the vet couldn't believe he was still alive. He was in complete kidney failure in a very short period of time, so it would probably be a good idea to take him to the vet ASAP and get him checked, as these infections can take him downhill fast. He may very well have an infection, as cats do weird things when they are sick. They just can't tell us and react strangelyi.e., peeing in inappropriate places and will often pee on their owner's things. In the meantime, you could try OdoBan. WalMart or Sams should carry this. If you don't get the urine crystals/salts that are left behind, the cat will always smell this, even if you don't. I have used it with good results. Good luck!!

I tried smaller companies and larger. Gotta tell you there are a lot of companies (big and small) out there looking to take advantage of a new MT. I came across several myself. One wanted me to start working immediately, that day, right now, with no hiring agreement or anything. All they knew was my first name, had a cut and paste partial resume, phone interview, and a test which I don't even think was a test but free work. It is sad what the jobs are like out there right now for MTs. I am fortunate to have a husband with a good job, not much financial overhead, and more in need of flexibility. For my foot in the door so to speak and a foot out of the 24/7 schedule of inhouse hospital transcription it was the price I had to pay.
