have a lump on my thyroid . . .sm [2008-08-11]
anyone ever have a nodule or diagnosed with thyroid cancer? My twin sister had thyroidectomy 1-1/2 years ago for thyroid cancer. I am feeling a little scared right now . . . I go for ultrasound tomorrow.
groin lump [2008-06-24]
My sister told me a couple of weeks ago that she had one. Her doctor asked her if she had any sores in her nose.Oddly, she did. The infection in her nose was what caused the infected lump in the groin area.Strange, buttrue, and very often misdiagnosed.
have a question about groin lump sm [2008-06-22]
last weekend i woke up to a sore groin, and a little bit of my very upper thigh. i felt around and found about a lima bean sized lump. it was very sore to the touch. over the course of the week, the lump decreased in size and there is no tenderness. i still feel a lump. i figured it is probably a lymph node. probably about three to four inches away from this lump i had a bite, not sure what kind but i i never did see a tick there, but the sore it left and how long i i haven
lump on eyelid [2008-03-06]

Slightly hypothyroid, about 6 months ago I found a lump [2007-10-30]
in my neck, had the whole workup including thyroid blood work and US guided biopsy which was benign. They put me on Synthroid, which has greatly helped my fatigue, etc. I thought I was just getting old and tired, etc. However, the mass is still there, not any smaller, so they will probably want to remove part of my thyroid sooner or later. If it enlarges they will definitely want to remove it. I would think by having thyroid removed you would actually gain weight unless your thyroid medication is adjusted appropriately?
I've been paying a lump sum for my taxes [2007-01-07]
and was starting to get scared that Iare not my thing!
Yes. [2008-11-02]
I think this is a reasonable explanation for the lump. About 3 weeks ago my son bent one of his fingers backward while playing and his finger became swollen and bruised. He kept ice on it and it went away. When we went to the pediatrician the next day they felt he had hyperextended the joint and to let them know if it did not continue to improve. It did improve after a few days.
As far as the behavior, I think a lot depends on the age of the child. No one wants to think of their child as a liar but I think all children go through phases of telling stories just because they can and to see how it plays out. No they don't always make sense as to why the child would say that. It's just something they do...from my experience tends to be 1st to 3rd grade age, give or take.
With that being said, I would not assume my child was lying. If the pieces of the puzzle do not fit, which it sounds like these don't, I would investigate further. I would make an appointment for a meeting with the principal. They can cover up all they want but I would want it my complaint documented in my child's file with the school (maybe write a letter to take with you to the meeting) and I would make it clear that if ANYTHING even remotely happens between these 2 children again that you will be filing a complaint with the superintendent's office and you WILL pursue it as far as necessary. After that, I would let this circumstance go.
Thankfully, your daughter seems fine and hopefully the teacher and office have learned their lesson (or will have after you speak to them) and they will keep a better eye on (or get an aide) for this student. I wouldn't involve the other parents. Who knows what kind of parents he has that they don't have him under a special behavioral plan if he has had recurring problems.
Ideas . . . thoughts on this? [2008-10-31]
Good afternoon,
I am hopeful someone here can answer my question. Does anyone here type for a pediatrician? I was wondering . . . if a child bent all four fingers in a backwards position, would this action cause a lump to form on the back of the hand? Why do I ask? Well my daughter (in first grade) came home from school with a lump on the back of her tiny hand. At first she did not tell me what happened, but it has since come out that the bully in the class bent her fingers backwards. I I had planned to take her to our doctor to have it checked out, but today the lump is gone. I wrote a note to the school teacher asking that this child (the bully) be kept away from my daughter—now there seems to be this big coverup. This little boy was always in trouble in kindergarten and he was known to throw chairs etc.. .. you name it. As a matter of fact the kindergarten teacher couldn My daughter told me that when this finger bending/spitting occurred that her music teacher sent the boy to the office for punishment . . . now the school claims he was never sent to the office, like this never occurred. And no, I wasn Also, I should mention other parents found out there were coverups over bad behavior when this boy was in kindergarten. What should I do? Would a lump result from this type of bending of the hand? I guess I have to wire my daughter to find out what is going on in the classroom. Any suggestions or answers?
I'm pro-choice. Abortion is not murder. SM [2008-09-18]
Abortions are performed very early on in pregnancy. I'm afraid to say this, but basically, it is a lump of tissue. Women have to right to form their own opinion, but the idea a person is aborting a roly-poly fully formed baby is a crock. This is propaganda devised by right-winged fundamentalists, many of whom happen to be men.
I do believe in practicing safe sex, so abortion will not be needed. That is the ideal, but we are all only human.
No, I never had an abortion. I had my daughter at age 25, after being married 5 years. My daughter was married at 30 and had her first child at 31. We are both Pro Choice.
Left arm "lump"...?overuse? [2008-09-18]
I have a long (2-3 inches) somewhat flattened lump on my left arm about an inch above my wrist. I first noticed it a couple of years ago and went to a surgeon, who did an MRI that only showed a very small ganglion on the wrist. He clearly did not think anything was there at all and did not want to be bothered with me...the whole experience was very frustrating. At least 3 other doctors have looked at it, can see it, and say it is not consistent with a ganglion. They suggest I see another surgeon. I may do this as it is starting to hurt occasionally, must be sitting on a nerve.
What is weird is that I seem to have an identical problem just starting on my right arm, mirror image, but still very small. I am wondering if this might be muscle or tendon inflammation from all of the typing. Has anyone else had anything similar to this? I looked on the web, didn Thanks.
Credit Card Debt Counseling [2008-08-21]
http://www.cccsatl.org/index.asp?_method=viewsc=43cn=486md=debtmanagement
Here It is called Consumer Credit Counseling Services. They are legit. Now back when hubs and I did it about 15 years ago, there were no computers, per se, so we went on site to an office. I don
We did it, completed it, and it was great. However, they cut your credit cards up in front of you and put them in a huge jar (at least they did back then). Once you join, there are no more credit cards. What CCCS does is works with your creditors to reduce interest rates, payment size, etc. because they are networked. You then make one lump payment to CCCS and they disburse the money. They also take into consideration your income. I think that Also, this is what tells them how long it will take to pay off the debt. Just beware though that if you are behind on payments, sometimes certain creditors do not accept CCCS, so they may hassle you still and some just plain won
Believe me, even though we are not late on payments, we had in the past 3 years so much personal stuff go on (sickness, death, etc.) that we have racked up some debt ourselves and may try CCCS again, as one card we have raised the rate to 33% interest because we have a high balance. We make regular payments.
All in all, itbad mark but yet a good mark on your credit report for using CCCS. Check with them about that though, as I do not know the specifics. It is way better than bankruptcy...
Hope you find some relief soon! My thoughts are with you... I
?hernia or more serious [2008-07-13]
When standing at end of day have a huge bulge in the right lower groin area (more toward suprapubic area than in the groin itself) This occurs mostly in the evening and can be felt when standing but not when lying flat. Made a PCP appt. early one morning and bulge was not felt, so told to see a surgeon and just worried if it could be something other than a hernia, i.e., vascular, etc. Have pain as well when I have walked or bent such as gardening during the day. Hazard of this profession - frightened to death of surgery (allergic to some types of anesthesia). Anyone else had this problem? TIA - just a little worried,

Get it checked [2008-06-22]
To help you not worry. I had a lump once in the groin and it was because of a urinary tract infection. Although it sounds like yours is related to the bug bite. Better safe than sorry, I would just have the doc look at it.
Very moving - see comment [2008-04-06]
Very moving, touching, sad, proud, thankful, greatful. There are not enough words to thank all the soldiers fighting for us. I was in the miliary some years ago and this brings back so many memories of why I joined. I can't thank enough these people who fight for our freedom and for freedom for others. I still have a lump in my throat from watching this video. What a wonderful tribute to the soldiers this 15-year-old did in making this.
thank YOU for your service! [2008-04-06]
No matter what branch, age, sex, etc., the entire military has my utmost respect. I only hope they know how many of us get a lump in our throats whenever we thank them on the street OR watching something as moving as this. I know I
Thyroid Nodule - Questions/Info?? [2008-03-27]
Two weeks ago I had a physical and my doc felt a lump on my thyroid. She sent me for an ultrasound one week ago to check it out. Yesterday, the nurse called and said that I have a 2 cm solid mass on my thyroid and my doc wants me to see an endocrinologist. Does anyone have experience with this? I don't have any health problems. Always get my thyroid checked every year and it's always fine. I'm not overweight or underweight, so not sure what this means. The nurse made a couple of comments that worried me a little though. She mentioned that the endocrinologist doesn't have a very good bedside manner, but he's an excellent doc?? Also, he was able to get me in on Tuesday, which seems very quick for a specialist appt. I don't have any experience with endocrinology, so maybe this is normal for them to see patients faster?? Surely though they wouldn't really be able to tell much from an ultrasound right? I would need to get a biopsy before they knew if it was more than a nodule? I know I'm probably just freaking myself out a bit, but if anyone has any personal or professional experience with thyroid nodules and/or endocrinology, it would be great to hear from you! Thanks!
Thyroid nodules - I have two [2008-03-27]
Try not to stress. When I started working for ahospital as an MT about 13 years ago, they required a physical and the doc felt a lump on my thyroid and I was referred to an endocrinologist. They did an ultrasound, didn Then they had me do a thyroid uptake (take a radioactive medication and then they scan your thyroid to see how much the thyroid gland takes up). It turns out I had a hot nodule. My thyroid levels have been checked regularly since then and have been in the normal range, though do vary a bit, except during pregnancy. So I have just been watching the nodule for years. About 3 years ago when I visited the endo he felt a second nodule close to the first one, so now I have two. Until the nodules start messing with my thyroid levels, they are just monitoring them. If it starts messing with my levels, then I
Ihot or cold. The hot nodules are active, which is what mine is, meaning that the nodule in my thyroid is conducting the majority of the activity while suppressing my thyroid gland, but as long asit makes the proper amount of thyroid hormone and doesnI am okay. I
A cold nodule is inactive and has a higher chance of being cancerous. That is probably one reason they referred you quickly, just to get the ball rolling to check it and make sure it Don So it will probably turn out to be just fine, but you should definitely have it checked out to know exactly what you are dealing with and make sure it isn Hope that helps!
lump on eyelid [2008-03-06]

My cat was just diagnosed with lymphoma last night. [2008-02-07]
She is 10 years old. I noticed that her back hind leg looked very swollen last Friday. When I felt it, it was a huge lump. She has not been eating and not drinking any water at all.I think it has been there a long time and just did not notice it until lastFriday. I was given the option of amputating her leg, which I cannot do. Give her prednisone and start chemotherapy, but how much time will that give her? Shelooks so sad and sleeps all day and it not using the litter box, about once a day.
I had to make a very hard decision this morning, and I am having her put to sleep. It makes me so very sad, but I do not want her to suffer. I am going to bring her home todayand place her to rest in my garden undera park bench I have out back.I could not think to just leave her there. I am going to miss her greatly.
Just needed to talk as I have been crying all morning and trying to work. I am not going to get much done.
That is good advice, but may I also add... [2008-01-05]
There is a government-sponsored (I think) credit counseling system that will help you for free. I am not sure what it is called, but I am sure you could Google it. It is legit. I had a family friend who was way behind and used a company that he paid. As the other poster said, they just paid all his bills as a lump sum and they kept paying them late as a lump sum or not paying them at all. So, I suggest the free one...worth a try anyway.
Good luck!
It hasn't been long [2008-01-03]
No, I gained the weight during the time I was in pain and my uterus was swelling out of control (hormones), so most of the 3rd year post ablation. I had a lap supracervical hysterectomy with left oophorectomy (ruptured large complex cyst) on a Monday- up shopping in Walmart on Wednesday, taking care of my kid at home, too.
Since the surgery (which was only a few months ago), I have been able to change my diet and have lost 1 dress size, but haven't added exercise. If I did that, I know I could get the rest of the weight off. I'm moving next month to a place with walking trails built into the community and I hope to take advantage of that.
I do honestly believe the ablation accelerated my hormones, but like I said, everything about my body is extreme, so I'm the 1 patient in a million you hear about. When my doc first offered me the ablation, she told me that in my case, I would end up needing the hysterectomy anyway, but because I was so young the ablation would buy some time. She even said it probably would only give me 3 years before needing the hysterectomy, and her timing was exactly right.
Oh, and I have not had a need for HRT although I do have 3 hairs on my chin now (groin).
They should have at least given you more information . - (sm) [2007-12-18]
My sister was treated in this way once, and it scared her to the point of tears as she sat on the exam table waiting to hear the worst. Turns out, sometimes one type of film doesn't get the right view of what they want to see, and they'll try an ultrasound or an MRI.
As it turns out, there was no problem at all, but the WAY THEY HAD ACTED in that office had scared her half to death.
And if you need a biopsy, all is not lost. I've had a couple friends get biopsies or just get the lump taken out, and it was benign.
I had a suspicious pea-sized lump arise in my mid to late 30's, and it stuck around for years. They mammo'ed it sometimes every 6 months, sometimes once a year sometimes less. The other breast has always been normal. Most of the time I had other stuff to do and not the time to think about it much.
Amazingly, the last mammo (whenever that was... I don't keep very good track!) showed that the lump was gone. Even the speck of calcification in it which had made them all suspicious of it was gone.
I typed xray and mammograms for many years, and one thing I learned is that everyone is different, every lump and xray finding is a little different, and the various imaging types yield different results. Very, very few of the people who did have tumors had breast pain associated with it. That's pretty rare. So until they tell you otherwise, I would be optimistic.
Even it the news should not be so good, I can say that my cousin had DCIS and did the mastectomy and chemo, and she's been FINE for 10+ years. (Her hair grew in GORGEOUS, too! Thicker, and curly/wavy!) So even then, there was an upside to the whole thing.
Good luck, and don't worry needlessly... wait until you actually know there is something to be concerned about, and get out there and enjoy the holidays! :)
I am 37 and went through this the summer before [2007-12-18]
I have lumpy or fibrotic breasts too. A lump was found on the right side. I also had tender breasts with some pain once a while. The lump I had was excised and completely benign. I We got through it together and it turned out benign. I had three opinions all stating it needed to be biopsied. The images are to try to delineate the mass. You The surgeon I see now states that lots of women have lumps and that if they excised every lump from every breast they It is better to be safe than sorry, but I wouldn However, if God forbid it is, then you have found it early. Take care and God Bless. Feel free to e-mail me if you have other questions.
Having the pain is usually no big deal, [2007-12-18]
lots of women have this and something excellent to take for this is Vitamin E- learned from a nurse, works almost immediately. I have suffered from that myself for years. I had breast biopsy (I located a big lump really right below the axilla, turned out benign). Of course it is usually scary but most of the biopsies, etc. turn out to be negative.
Daughter has MRSA? sm [2007-12-06]
About10 months ago my daughter had what looked like a swollen lymph node in her groin area on the right side(right in the crease where her panties rub it). Took her to a PA and she felt like it was exactly that, a swollen lympyh node and put her on antibiotics. That afternoon I typed a dictation where the patient had the same thing and they determined it was cat scratch fever. At the time my daughter had a huge cat scratch across her stomach. I called the PA back and she changed her medication and within a short time she was fine. About 6 months later the same thing again, took her to the same PA and this time after closer examination she said it was a cyst and I looked and also saw the pore in the center. Once again antibiotics, she said it might eventually have to be ID She found another one on Tuesday but this time on the left but in the same area. The PA has left the area and my daughter only wanted to see a female so I took her back to her pediatrician....she is about 40 minutes away and usually the wait is a couple of hours, the only reason we switched to the PA. She took one look and said MRSA. Gave her antibiotics and wants to see her back in a week. She says it is probably from a cut fromshaving and wants her to throw her razor away and told my to clorox certain areas in the house. If it busts she wants me to take her to the hospital to have a culture. Now I don I know how serious MRSA can be, but I also know it is treatable. Believe me, I am not freaked out about this, but want to make sure we are handling this properly. Any opinions?
Onion odor - eeewwww! [2007-10-09]
I did a really dumb thing. On Sunday I cut open a big purple onion and used a couple of slices in a dish. Then, wanting to be frugal and not throw the rest away, I wrapped the rest of the onion in plastic wrap and stuck it in my fridge, on a plastic shelf in the door, face-down. Okay, I I only bought a big one because they were out of the little pearl onions. Now, two days later, my fridge smells to high heaven! I washed out the little shelf I had put the onion on with soap and water and it didn So far, all I Any ideas?
OMG! Hope he was able to change his flight-plan - [2007-10-01]
in mid-air and you didn't end up with a FLAT CAT!
I had a former cat that used to sleep under the covers during the day, and one time I was going to take a nap and almost launched myself into bed. Then stopped and thought, Where Then saw a barely-noticeable lump under the comforter. Turned out to be the kitty. Flat-cat syndrome successfully avoided! ;D
Breast biopsy [2007-09-13]
What is the normal length of time time to wait on the results of a biospy for a lump in the breast.I was given a very vague answer today about when? Thanks!
I haven't, but mom has. She is doing great. Please sm [2007-08-29]
don't worry too much about it. I know she just had to have a hysterectomy and then gets checked every 6 months. So far so good.
Right now I am sort of in a scare too. They found a lump in my left breast. Next step is biopsy since ultrasound and mammo were inconclusive. I have been reading everything I possibly can about breast cancer - and I'm worried, too!
Keep us informed. I know you are going to be just fine!
