My daughter mentioned True Blood before [2008-11-18]
but I told her no way. She's only 14. I heard about the series, but I haven't had a chance to watch it. If I had a moment to read, I'd like to read the Twilight books myself, but I just can't seem to find a minute to do any reading. My daughter is going on Friday with her Twilight school group and then again on Saturday.

you mentioned innate understanding.... sm [2008-10-17]
I do believe that God instills in each of us a connection to him. I believe that this is why so many people who are constantly searching and seeking fulfillment in anything but God and his holy word are having a problem finding that peace and fulfillment that they so desparately crave.

When you mentioned the Goldman family that [2008-10-06]
really brought back memories when I sat in front of my TV on my break and heard the verdict. As long as I live I will not forget the loud cries of Kim Goldman as her dad held her in the courtroom when they read an innocent verdict. I was literally sick. I will hush now, too, but we had to sit by all these years and look at that joke of a man having lap dances, etc. I almost lost my dinner over that one. Have a good day. I am smiling with you. I was only a matter of time for someone like him with his anger, abusive natureand need to control.

So maybe it wasn't [2008-09-03]
LOL Glad I asked. Something about putting dandruff shampoo on the face didn't seem right. I am almost 30 and have had it since about 14. I took accutane and had great skin for about 10 years, now its slowly creeping. I'm preggers so not sure if its the hormones contributing or not but I don't want to take accutane again. I have tried proactive and just about everything out there and nothing helped except the accutane. I'll give this a shot. I have seen the Apricot Scrub in wal-mart but have never tried it. Oh, if you have one or two problem spots that you want to get rid of quickly, Clean and Clear Persa Gel works great. If I know I have a special event coming up I will use that daily for the week or 2 prior and it helps a lot. It clears up any problem within 2 days but within the first day the redness is completely gone.

It wasn't so much that you disagree with giving adult gifts....sm [2008-08-23]
It is more the way you approached the subject, which was in my estimation very rude and hateful. That said, I do agree that a lot of people go frantic trying to buy gifts for other people who may or may not appreciate them. However, there are ways of giving that won't bust the budget. I know that I give, not so that I will receive a gift in exchage, but rather as an expression of my love for those close to me. To me, that is part of the spirit of Christmas and is representative of the first Christmas so long ago.

I hate spam [2008-11-17]
I was at a friend's house once. Her son was whining because he wasn't allowed to have dessert because he didn't eat his dinner. I asked him what they had for dinner. He said Spam, and I said I didn't blame him, I wouldn't eat it either. His mom got mad at me!

Not sure about that, but I grew up on scrapple [2008-11-15]
Scrapple contains basically what you mentioned and it's pretty darn good. It's all good meat, but it's basically scraps, hence the name. I don't mind Spam either, at least when it's fried. My son won't even try Spam, but not because of Monty Python. He won't eat it because of the movie Waterworld where they were throwing it out to the masses of people on the boat and the cans were marked Smeat! LOL!

I am so fustrated I am in tears...sm [2008-11-15]
Ok here goes...My husband has hunting beagles. He has about 5 of them. I love dogs and I love beagles. Well he drives an 18-wheeler and is gone a majority of the time. I take care of the dogs daily, i.e. feed them, clean their kennels, and put fresh water. It is a chore, but I love the dogs so I do it. It is for my husband anyway, and we are supposed to help each other. When he is home it is his chore. Well he has a buddy down the road who lives about 10 minutes away. They take their beagles out together and let them run rabbits. Well his buddy is bad about leaving his beagles over here and not coming to get them in a timely manner, and I have to take care of 5 more dogs. Food isn Well you have to make him come get them. A couple of weeks ago his buddy went on a hunting trip in Tennessee and needed someone to care for his beagles. Well I didn I was fustrated to learn though he brought them and left them in the kennels and left no food for them. I had to feed these dogs of his out of our food and there was 5 of them. I mentioned to my husband that I thought that was rude. I was nice enough to care for his beagles while he went away. He should have brought food for them. I felt taken advantage of. Well he came over last weekend and I thought good he has come for his dogs. Well he leaves without them. I said oh here we go again. I had forgotten to mention anything to my husband because I got busy working among other things. Well today when I went to feed the beagles I got really fustrated because he STILL has not come and got his dogs. So got downrightticked and called my husband. I said you call your buddy and tell him I am not in the kennel business. He can come get his dogs. I said first of all he is back in town and has been a week. Why hasn I said you should have made him before now. I said I was not asked do you mind taking care of these dogs for weeks. I said you should not allow your friend to take advantage of my niceness. He said well I just figure that if you are taking care of our beagles then why can What difference does it make? You are already taking care of these so what is so hard about putting a little more food out. I said I will tell you. It is twice the dogs to feed. I said he did not bring any food. It is twice thesh** to clean out the kennels, which is done, by the way, by spraying it off the concrete floors with a hose with a spray nozel. I feel like I am being taken advantage of and I think my DH should stick up for me to his friend.

Explaining a couple of things sm [2008-11-14]
I studied IQ as part of my Masterget you because your sense of humor is probably well off the beaten track. You probably lack social skills from an early age. Your peers would play childhood games while you preferred to try to improve upon the toys they played with. In school, you didn't have to work very hard in most areas. It all came very easily. You didn't learn how to learn, which is a very valuable skill. You probably have a low frustration level and when something doesn't come very easily, you are prone to giving up. Because you see the world in completely different terms than people of more average intelligence, those same average people call you crazy or mentally ill and tell you that you should be locked up. You don't fit in and despite the higher intelligence, you are remiss to know how to accomplish the feat of being more ordinary. I alluded to this in my previous post. I have the unusual combination of being very artistic, creatively gifted AND being rather intellectually gifted. Yes, I did fall at the 99.6% percentile on the Wechsler. I know what it means and I have a firm understanding that indeed, that score suggests that I possess more intelligence than 99.6% of the people who have taken that test, and only 0.4% are smarter than I am. It has been a life-long struggle to fit in. I am too cerebral for artistic people, and too artistic for intellectuals. I literally have no one I fit in with. I have learned to tone myself down to make it work. I didn't say dumb down, I said tone down. That means I don't intentionally talk over the heads of others and I won't cram what I know down anyone's throat. I have had those people in my life who have been jealous of me. I learn quickly if it is artistic, musical, creative, the written word, history and philosophy. I struggle with math. I took piano lessons 10 years ago. I had 40 of them and had never played the piano before. In 40, 1-hour lessons I could play the Moonlight Sonata in piano solo (not a dumbed down easy version). Most people cannot do that. There many other things I have done in a similar fashion, but this is an example for you. You ask why I am an MT if I am so smart. I make very good money as an MT and I enjoy the challenge. My photographic memory comes in very handy too. I often stop and read up on a disease process I am transcribing about, so that I know what it means. Show me a word once and I'll know it forever. It makes my job easier for me to accomplish. This all sounds like I am blowing my own horn, but I am merely trying to explain. Being highly intelligent wonreally smart is not only not helpful, I think it is the root of the housecleaning issues in my life. In short, it is just great to have a good ol' high number and in the end it makes absolutely difference...if you don't count the fact that people with IQs over 150 are 3 times more likely to be depressed and commit suicide than the average population. People who are 125 to 140 are the most fortunate. They succeed in greater numbers in school, in a job, in life. They are very bright, and likely have learned how to learn. They are more likely to persevere in the face of frustration and challenge. It really isn't all you think it is.

Actually .... [2008-11-13]
You should always call for an accident report whether you think you or your vehicle is hurt or not. You could have neck pain the next day, or discover the car damage was much worse than you originally thought, and you'd need the accident report to file with your insurance. So, she had no right to get mad at you anyway. Plus she was a twit, so you were in the right again! lol ... And if Daddy is going to kill her, it probably wasn't her first time being caught at it.

That explains it somehow, but still weird..sm [2008-11-13]
What is a puzzle to me is how this man/woman got pregnant? This is only possible if he/she has still the female organs and he/she is artificially inseminated. They mentioned only 1 operation, the removal of her breasts. It is also weird to me that Barbara Walters is so interested and fascinated by this story. I used to admire her a lot, but lately not so much. But for being over 70 she looks really still great, lately not so much, though. The whole story is 'mocking' God, I do not like it at all. They will tell the child: 'Your father had you! The poor child.

depression? [2008-11-13]
Okay so they say, finally, that we are in a recession. I am thinking that we may be going into another Great Depression. Call me doom and gloom but come on now, look at life. So, my question is to those of you who stock up on stuff. What do you stock up on and how do u do it? I mean, do you go out one day when you grocery shop and just spend a fortune on extra stuff or do you spread it out. Also, those of you that mentioned being stocked up, obvious it limits grocery trips and probably saves some money here and there but if we face a depression, do you think that there will be a huge shortage of food in our grocery stores?

I know this dog...sm [2008-11-13]
From the time they rescued him. With him being a pit and being scared and in a new place you would think he would have growled or showed fear or uneasiness of me. He never did. When I talked to him he would wag his tail and was so friendly. He has never barked at me when I pull up at their house. He has his own fenced off area of their yard so he wasn't just loose or anything. But when I pull up I park kind of like by his yard and he never even barks at me. I will say hey Chevy and he wags that tail. He is such a friendly dog. I love him. I just know a lot of people are prejudiced about pits and I wanted to say what a sweet friendly dog Chevy is.

One thing I forgot to add was that - sm [2008-11-11]
a big part of the problem is owners who don't neuter their male dogs. Most of the attacks on the news in my area seem to involve un-altered males. The dog that had me cornered was also an un-altered male. There was a really horrible attack in San Francisco a couple years ago... a 12-year-old boy was killed in his own home by the family's pet pitbulls. (Un-altered males). Apparently there was already a problem with them, and the mother knew the dogs couldn't be trusted with her son (who was afraid of them) home alone. A female she had was in heat at the time, too. The boy was home alone, and the mother had locked the dogs in another room. Somehow, they got out, and tore the poor boy to shreds. Imagine being the mom and coming home to that! When animal control picked up the dogs, they had the boy's blood all over them. I actually recognized one of them - had seen someone walking it through the park one day. So the problem was... even though the mother knew the dogs might be dangerous, and she tried to do the right thing by locking them up, on that particular day, that wasn't enough. Granted, they don't all act like that. Plus just about any breed can revert to a predatory pack mentality under the right conditions. But again, irresponsible breeding has changed the breed in large part for the worse (they're bigger and more aggressive). Unresponsible owners who don't properly socialize the dogs (or who fight them, or encourage them to be aggressive for 'protection') are the worst offenders. And those who are backyard breeders. Now there are 'way too many of them, and 'way too many with the bad bloodlines, too. And you won't believe THIS: Remember the story about the huge Presa Canario dogs that killed a woman in a San Francisco apartment hallway? (Earning their owners some well-deserved jail-time). Well, some people are actually crossing pits and Presas! Saw some for sale the other day on Craigslist. Talk about breeding 'biting machines'! Those things will grow up to be 150-lb. pitbulls-on-steroids.

Thank you for answering me. I [2008-11-11]
had just read an article in the August Reader's Digest about a man being treated for throat cancer, stage IV. The name is The Farther Shore by Stephen Reynolds, in his 40's. There is an insert in the article that might interest you. HPV and You While few people with HPV get oral cancer, the number is likely to keep rising, says Maura Gillison, M.D., of Johns Hopkins. 20 million Americans are infected, with 6.2 million new cases each year. So far, there is no cure and just one test and only to detect HPV in a woman's cervix. Only a biopsy can tell whether an oral cancer is linked to HPV, but a test to spot high-risk oral infection in men and women and a vaccine for men are both in the works. What you need to know: Most people with HPV infections don't have any symptoms. At least half of sexually active men and women may become infected in their lifetimes. About 23% of women ages 14 to 65 have high-risk HPV, including 35% of 14 to 19 year old girls. Gardasil protects against up to 70% of the HPV types that cause cervical cancer, but it is unknown if the vaccine protects against oral infection in men or women. While most infections clear up on their own without patients ever knowing they were exposed, the consequences can still be severe. For instance, one type of HPV raises the risk of oral cancer of 3,200 percent. The virus speads through any form of sexual activity, and condoms can't fully protect against it. Having more than 5 oral sex partners boosts the risks of HPV linked oral cancer by 340 percent. Sorry this was so long, but this is the most info I have seen on this and the numbers are, I think, staggering. I notice it does not address the vaccine in Australia you mentioned.

I'm a dog lover, and most dogs love me. - sm [2008-11-10]
I can be walking down the street, simply make eye contact with one and smile without saying a word, and the dog will usually rush up to me, wagging his tail like crazy and acting all silly and lovey-dovey. In the past, some of the absolute sweetest dogs I'd ever known were pits & rotties. But that was in the ྌs, before the big 'gangsta-dog' thing became popular. Then people started breeding these dogs more for a surly attitude than for good temperament, and it seems to be a dominant trait that's getting passed forward, even when unintended. So fast-forard to 2 weeks ago. I was out walking in my neighborhood, and was coming up a long flight of sidewalk stairs that go up the steep hill I live on. Halfway up, I saw a big brown pit bull standing there looking at me. I had seen him running loose on my street earlier in the day, and wondered whose he was, but then forgot about him. He had an aggressive body-language that I didn't like. But I'm not afraid of dogs, and continuned on up the steps, and talked to him nicely as I reached the top. But then the dog totally went off, and began barking, growling, and making charges at me. I knew to stand my ground, and first tried sweet-talking him. Didn't work. If I tried to slowly move away from him in any direction, he'd come around and try to come in at me from behind. There wasn't a soul around. I tried scaring him off, but that only exacerbated the problem, so I decided to just stand there and let him do his thing. 20 minutes later, he was just as aggressive as ever, maybe worse, because his charges were coming closer and closer. The only 'weapon' in my possession was a single can of cat food in a plastic bag, that I'd walked down the hill to the market to buy. Considered whacking him with it, but didn't want to be in that close to him. Turns out the owners were in an apartment right across the street. A couple finally came out and called off the dog, stating Oh, we didn (I doubt that - the dog had been out all afternoon.) Anyway, I told them I'd call the sheriff and/or animal control if I ever saw him out again. When I got home, I called animal control anyway, and filed a formal complaint, so that if he bit anyone in the future, there would already be a complaint against him, and he likely would not be released from the shelter. Animal control said they'd follow up with the owner, which hopefully they did. In the meantime, I did 2 things: I programmed the sheriff's phone numberinto my cellphone, which I now slip into my pocket whenever I go out for a walk. Good thing to do, anyway. The other thing is I went to Army-Navy Surplus, and bought a cannister of professional-grade pepper spray. Not the wimpy, .02% 'dog-repellent'. I doubt that would stop a pitbull. I got the 15% stuff that will bring a 200-pound, raging crack-addict to his knees and keep him there for more than an hour. That goes into my pocket, as well. Now I can walk & bike with peace of mind. Meanwhile, those pitbull owners should consider themselves very lucky that their dog went after someone who knows dogs, is not afraid, and didn't RUN. If a timid woman, or worse, a child, had come up those steps that afternoon, the resulting attack might have made the 6 o'clock news that night. There are probably still some gentle pits left out there, but I think their numbers are declining because of the current fashion statement of being a 'big bad gangsta, with my big, bad gansta-dog'. They want their dogs to intimidate people, and then they wonder why they can't rent an apartment or get homeowners insurance to cover dog bites. In some cities you have to post a $30,000 bond in order to keep one. It's little wonder that unwanted pits and pit-mixes are clogging up our animal shelters. I feel sorry for the animals, but if I were adopting, I wouldn't want the financial liability of owning one.

Uh-oh! [2008-11-10]
I wasn't even brilliant on the easy test - hmmm.. I think I will stop taking them!

LOL My son is about this age [2008-11-10]
and I dread this day. lol I would run down to the nearest best buy and see what they offer as far as packages with updates. I know they have such things. Haven't bought one myself but know of people who have. Then, I would sit down with him and let him know that it's normal for a boy to be curious but that he needs to give things a little time. I would also discuss the dangers of the internet. i.e. purchasing things you don't want to purchase, crazy weird people, etc. 9 is very young in my opinion but kids are exposed to so much these days it doesn't really surprise me. He will be learning about these things in school very soon, not the way he wants to lol, or maybe suggest that you can get some videos for him to watch if he is interested. Usually the school will allow you to check them out and sometimes they are available through your library. I know this because our son's school mentioned it if the parent's wanted to view the same video as the kids or wanted additional resources for kids with questions. Around that same age my son started asking a LOT of questions just because of commercials and things he picked up on television. We had the talk and told him that he could talk to us any time, write a letter, make an appointment with a counselor or his pediatrician, or whatever he wants if he is embarrassed, etc. Since he has continued to ask questions openly. I think most of it is that the parent's don't make it weird.

Are you saying this couldn't have ...sm [2008-11-09]
happened with a Great Dane or a Great Pyranees or Lab, etc.? Are you saying these dogs aren't capable of killing or mauling? I don't think the old man was their master. I think the pits belonged to the daughter and her boyfriend. Unfortunately this happened and it shouldn't have. These dogs for some reason chose to attack. I don't know or you why. I would like to know but we will never know. I just don't believe that dogs attack for no reason. It don't make it right for them to attack but I think there is always a reason. Something provokes them. I guess the daughter and boyfriend thought the dogs would not hurt the man but something happened there that day and a dog should never kill a person. But something happened. These dogs were not quite as stable as thought to be or either the man wasn't stable enough to be staying in the house with the dogs. You are right you never know what the dogs will find to be threatening and something must have made these dogs feel threatened. I take every precaution I can with my pit bull. He is not mean or vicious but he has that protective instinct for his family and that is what I have to protect others from. But so do German Shepards, Dobermans, etc. My dog also looks for me to tell him when it is okay. When someone is okay. When we introduce him to people we tell him it is okay CJ. He/she is nice. And we let him sniff them and then he will go have a seat and just chill. He don't want to hurt anyone he just wants to make sure nobody hurts his family. As soon as he knows we are fine he is fine and goes on about his business. But that is only if a visitor wants to meet CJ and then we will let them but otherwise he will stay in his fenced in back yard. I try to be as responsible as possible.

Pit bull or not he is a loving dog ...sm [2008-11-09]
who has never attacked and I honestly with all my heart know he would never hurt me. I believe in all honesty he would die to protect me to make sure I wasn't harmed if that is what it took. I know some pits have attacked owners and I believe these were either unstable dogs or abused or provoked. My dog has a respect for me also. He knows I am the boss and when I take a firm tone and let him know I am not happy with him he just bows his head and lays down. I didn't set out to own a pit bull he kind of fell into my lap you could say and I fell in love with him and he with me. I rocked him as a baby and nurtured him and he loves me with everything in him and I love him the same. My ownership of him just happened unexpectedly and I am so grateful it did. When I am sad he licks my tears and is so loving. I know other breeds are capable of this but CJ just happens to be a pitbull. I dont care. His breed is not important. It is the love in his heart. What is inside him. I don't judge a dog for what they are but who they are.

You say pits were bred to attack...sm [2008-11-09]
They were. But they were bred to attack dogs not humans. One thing the unscrupulous people who bred these dogs did right was breed them to not be human aggresssive. Because when they were in the ring with the dogs they couldn't be worried about the dogs attacking them. So they wanted a dog that wasn't aggressive towards humans. I have done research and read this to be true. That doesn't mean all pits are not human aggressive. There may be some that are but it wasn't bred into them.

I went through this with my mom. [2008-11-09]
She had a series of small strokes that became progressively more debilitating. My kids and I took care of her at home during the last 2 years of her life, but a couple of times she had to be taken to the hospital and then transferred to a nursing home for several months afterwards. One of the facilities was great, but the second one wasn't. I advise anyone contemplating placing their parent in one to research each facility thoroughly. Sometimes this is really the best choice for everyone involved, and the bottom line is that you want your mother to be safe. Good luck to you.

Pitbull Attack!?!? [2008-11-09]
This is a newspaper clipping from an attack that happened locally. When you read it you think to yourself Oh my gosh! another pitbull attack and it sounds like it is the dogoh another vicious pitbull.

Fluoride [2008-11-08]
use extra fluoride! in some states you can find a fluoride paste at the small, independently owned pharmacies. i can find it in the state where i am originally from but not where i live now. my ortho had mentioned it and all while using that i never had a cavity. this from a kid who had numerous cavities, not from lack of brushing or care. if you can't find that, ACT mouthwash has added fluoride too. you just want to make sure it is the last thing you use before bed so that it has a chance to sit on your teeth/in your mouth and be absorbed. my son uses the ACT and hasn't had a cavity since braces and starting this daily use. there is also special threading floss available for braces. my son's ortho didn't tell us about it but i knew from my past. its thin on one and and fluffy through the middle. when you pull it the fluffy part becomes tight like regular floss. its much easier to fee through the wires and the fluffy part can double as a small toothbrush in the tight areas around the brackets and such.

I'm sorry [2008-11-08]
I didn't mean to make you feel like your opinion wasn't wanted or valid. Like you said, I believe the OP wanted both sides, just discussing an alternate view point and really looking for more info on your point of view. It's good to have info from people that have different ideas. Something like dosing is not something I have thought about and it completely makes sense. I believe as part of the vote it stated that growing it yourself, for medical reasons, would also be legal - unless I am remembering incorrectly and someone please feel free to correct me. That would bring a valid point of dosing and if you have family members whose to say they aren't going to take a little here and there without medical necessity. Overall I am basically just speaking from experience of watching a family member die of cancer and take all the meds possible without relief and often wondered if this would have been a viable option for their comfort. Had I known where to get it, I probably would have gotten it for them illegally - but I would have had no clue where to begin with such a search. Yes, that's a lot of emotion going in to a big decision but I think emotion is a big part of medical treatment too.

Soooo let's talk casinos and gambling [2008-11-07]
I had lunch today with my women's golf group at a buffet inside one of the local casinos. I was astounded to see how many people were in there, gambling away, mid-day, mid-week. I must admit, I've never been in a casino before this afternoon, so I am totally in the dark as to what the appeal is. Any of you here enjoy the games, the gambling, the atmosphere (at least it wasn't smoky!)? What's the draw, cuz I sure don't get it?

Trust me ... at the end of the day s/m [2008-11-07]
no one will be looking at the state of your house. But definitely getting everyone in the household involved and sharing responsibility will give them alla satisfied feeling of being able to contribute. If you are doing all the cooking, lots of things can be done days in advance, a little at a time. It will get done -- trynot to sweat it too much. Believe me, your guests will be so grateful that is wasn't them having to do it, they will look at you as the hero!

FURTHERMORE (I should NOT have started . . .) [2008-11-04]
The cardiologists and hospitalists that took care of my mother quite appreciated that I knew her baseline EF, that she had chf, and could give a very detailed medical history to them and knew what they were talking about when my mother could not give them that info last summer . . . AND when I mentioned to my doc one time that I thought I had restless leg syndrome (which yea, I did) during my pregnancy he said, how So it just depends on who ya talk to.

Grey's Anatomy fans...did you see? [2008-11-04]
The character of Erica Hahn was dismissed and this week will be her last episode. I think the rumblings were that maybe ABC wasn't happy with the Erica/Callie relationship.

Still more... [2008-11-03]
Why do new socks come in a ziploc package??? *someone mentioned that a while back but I just noticed it today Why did the waittress come by and ask us this morning if we were going to want more to drink when our drinks were nearly empty and we were just half way through the our plate of food??? ...well duh!! ...and then why did she ask dh a few minutes later if he was going to be needing his fork when he had finished his first plate of food, laid it on his napkin and was getting up to go get some fruit at the food bar??? *guess they didn't want us to eat more than one plate. LOL ....and why tonight after church when we stopped at Dairy Queen and I order a chicken strip basket and asked for some Sweet and Sour sauce did the girl ask me if I didn't want my gravy??? What does that have to do with sweet and sour sauce. LOL
