As in your state senator or congressman, etc., to complain about something. What did you complain about and did you get a response?
My husband I have, many times. Gas gouging, oil, immigration, Iraq. sm [2008-09-17]
he calls about anything he feels they should know about. You would be amazed at how easily you can get through to talk to them. If they are not there, their aide will take a message and you either get a phone call back or a letter.
In Michigan we have Carl Levin, Debby Stabenow, and Vern Ehlers. Their aides and my husband are on a first name basis. Literally. The aides are the front line of the reps and sens etc. They DO make note and you DO get a letter in the mail about your phone call. It doesn't really change anything, but at least the elected officials are aware of what the temprament of the voting public is.
I have contacted gov't reps many times, as well. [2008-09-17]
Since the anthrax attacks years ago, if you contact them in writing, email is preferred. I usually email or call, and I always get a response. It's not like they're going to change everything based on my one call, but it does help them to know what constituents are thinking.

If you look in the government pages of your local phone book, you will find numbers for their DC office and their local offices if they have one. You can also call the White House. That number you have to call information for. You could even get the numbers online. THe area code for Washington, DC is 202.
I've done it so many times -- most exciting thing [2008-08-29]
Wow, where do I start? I left MI when I was 23, having heard San Diego was nice. I loaded up the Chevy and headed West. One of many, many adventures I I Atlanta, Chicago, LA, San Diego. I I have a CB radio to keep in touch with the truckers and they would always help me when I would break down, overheat, or need any sortof help. There is nothing like seeing this great country of ours one slow mile ata time. Colorado and Utah are by farthe most beautiful, but treacherousbecause of the Rocky Mountains.
As far as moving to a city you donthe Chamber of Commerce for any particular city for all sorts of information about their town --- also part of the adventure. I always loved being a stranger in a strange land.
And fear, oh yes, but more bravery than anything. I If you're young and courageous, I say totally go for it!!
I've done it too a couple of times. [2008-08-29]
I moved from OH to FL when I was 19. I wanted to get away from the snow! I had the best time and wouldn't trade the experience for the world.
I lived in Atlanta for 5 years, moved from there 5 years ago. The area was way too congested for my liking. Just to go to the grocery store was bumper to bumper traffic. As a matter of fact, there was traffic any time of the day or night. Even when you leave Atlanta and go 1 hour in any direction, you are STILL in traffic! It was ridiculous.
The other thing about Atlanta that we did not like is that because of the rapid growth, we had trouble hiring anybody to do anything. We would get estimates for work on our house. They would want the money up front and then say we. It was awful. We ended up always hiring illegals (which there is also an abundance of in Atlanta and surrounding area) who always did a good job and always showed up! It even took 6 weeks to get a phone line put in.
I could rant and rave for a long time about Atlanta but you get the picture. I really cannot recommend it.
On the other hand, I am feeling a little jealous of your freedom. Do it while you can! Good luck.

It is not a crock - we got ours on time, according to the schedule!

Maybe it's the personal preference of the local priest? [2008-03-11]
We used to do it through a screen. Once, when I was in about 6th grade, we went to a different church, and it was awkward. The priest practically yelled at me that I was supposed to say the Act of Contrition. I knew the prayer, but our other priest hadn't expected us to say it.
So I guess it's run the way the priest wants to.

Friends of ours still say things to me to do this day, one person will say things directly to him, which helps because then HE also knows that its not just me, which can be so difficult.
If you decide to stick this out I have some great books that really helped me get through our difficult times. I re-read them from time to time too. There is also a good support website online for stepmoms. Google smoms and you'll find it.
I wish you all the best in whatever decision you make. Just make the decision for yourself and not them.
Oh, and not sure if it will help at this point or not but another piece of advice - When I felt like the 3rd wheel or not included I woudl do as another poster suggested and leave the situation. It really sucked to feel like I was leaving my own house some times but it felt really good to not tell anyone where I was going, not answer cell phones, and just go get a pedicure, go shopping, or go to a family members house for the weekend (and no my family didn't know anything because I often visited them at other times).

Finding MT work with no experience [2008-10-08]
Hi,
I am a stay at home mom ready to re-enter the workforce. I am taking classes at a local college, Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology, Medical Terminology, Medical Transcription, etc. I have previous secretarial experience, lots of data entry, transcription, etc. My question is, am I going to be able to find any work as a medical Transcriptionist without experience, and how do I get experience if no one will hire me?
Thanks in advance.

she was a good owner. The only thing I disagree with the former pitbull owner is personally I won't take my dogs out in public loose. On a ranch wherever. They stated they had the dog at a ranch with them where the dog went frequently with no leash. I understand they had no reason to leash it because they didn't see it as dangerous but mine has never been dangerous eitehr. But see with me I wouldn't even let my dog run loose in my front yard and I live in the country. There is too much potential for accidents. What if he runs to the road and gets run over? What if someone pulls up and he doesn't know them? How would he react to a stranger? As the owner I have to make sure he doesn't get harmed or harm anyone else. They have to be on a leash if I take them anywhere. That isn't just my pitbull but beagle also. My pitbull is kept either in my backyard in a fenced in area he can't get out of or in the house. My pitbull has not given me reason to isolate him but I just have a rule that he stays in my control at all times. Some people do allow their pets to go in public without leashes or to go to friends houses or where they work and not leash them and that is okay for them but that is also how accidents happen. My dogs are not mean. But they never have that opportunity to bite or anything. If someone comes over my pit doesn't know he is put in the backyard and then maybe brought in and introduced to the new person and he is usually fine. I am a responsible owner. QVC is having an American Girl show on Oct 25. They had a couple of collections on their website for less than what would you would pay retail in the catalogue. I beleive they took them off the website again though, maybe until the show airs again...
I have also had luck in local tag sale forums affiliated with my local newspaper, and yes on Craigslist also , just do a search in the for sale/wanted forum. Also Target has the knock-off 18 dolls and nice furniture/accessories to go with them and much cheaper, and they do look like American girl too! I have also found outfits and accessories at AC Moore of all places!
Both of my sons are in college now. [2008-10-06]
It's very easy to become overwhelmed quickly during the search. My husband and I approached the process a little differently. We didn't do anything like the other parents and high school juniors/seniors were doing. We did pretty much... well nothing. We let our kids lead in the process. We didn't even look at the applications unless our sons asked us to. We felt that our job was to guide them and to keep them from getting caught up in the college search mania that seems to grip everyone during those last two years in high school.
My husband and I went to the same, very large university (Temple U). Back all those years ago, it just seemed that there wasncollege experience for us was living at home and going to school. College was more of a practical work-and-study experience for us. And we received very good educations.
Fast forward to our own children. We told both of our sons that they should think of their college experience as the preliminary work for their careers. They didnexperience.
Our oldest son was not quite sure what he wanted to do, so he wisely chose to spend a year at the local community college. We were thrilled! It cost us less than his high school tuition! He checked out different options and settled on a meteorology major. With that decided, he discovered that there was only one school that we could afford and that had a great program. He applied, was accepted, and his community college credits transferred. He is now a junior.
Our younger son wants to be an engineer, though heoptions and fits.
Why such a long post that seems a bit off-topic? Well, because I see so many people stress over this decision. It really isn't the end of the world. It's four short years of a person's life. They're important years, to be sure. But they don't have to be make or break years. Most college students will change majors at some point, many will transfer to other schools. These decisions can be re-made later on. You are in the market for a product, just as if you were shopping for a car or other big ticket item. Try to keep calm about it so that your student doesn't pick up on the stress. It is stressful, but if you keep it all in perspective, the stress doesn't have to feel so overwhelming.
And for the short answer: We liked visiting the schools at open house to get a general feel for the place. At that point you can usually tell if the school is a viable option or not. If not, no reason to revisit. If yes, then visit again and make an appointment for a personal tour and/or interview.
Don't worry! You'll survive!

Something is amiss with husband [2008-10-06]
Been married over 10 years. Over the past year he has changed. He is in his mid 40s, active, excellent health. In the past year I would say that about 90% of the time he just does not listen to me. I end up repeating thoughts/sentences up to 3 times within about a 4 minute time span and then I say I I Then he gets angry and is already quite aggressive and bullying at his baseline. Other women laugh and say, well, that But this is quite serious as sometimes it has major consequences like he doesn He is disrespectful in other ways too. My question is, WHAT can I possibly do to make him start listening. I have thought of just not talking at all for about 3 days but that is impossible in a busy household. I have tried saying from now on I am only to tell you things once and that Doesn Please help -- any suggestions?
do you speak with your hands - and I don't mean [2008-10-06]
My husband does not listen to me either. He looks like he's paying attention but he misses half of what I say. Couple thought I have is. Awhile ago we were watching a TV special it said that people listen and remember what you say when you talk with your hands (the study was done on school children). Well I don't talk with my hands. Never have and don't know how and when it do it just looks odd. I told him maybe I should start talking with my hands because then he would remember what I tell him.
Iwhat he. He's been out of work for about 5 years now and he doesn't know what he wants to do with his life (he's 50 years old). We will talk and talk and talk and then the next day it's back to square one like I never said anything.
Sometimes what I will do that helps is I take scratch pieces of paper and I write notes on them and them leave them all over the place. Like I keep a running list of errands we have to do and keep it on the corner of the table and a couple times through the week I will say we need to to this or we need to do that, and then I ask him when he would like to go do them (usually ityour not interested in what I

I suppose. You'd choose your local area. You could even make a post that you are interested in buying AG products. You'd be able to set up a special private e-mail address rather than giving somebody your actual e-mail, yet it still comes to your e-mail box. I don't get how it works, but it wasn't hard to use.
I agree with you [2008-10-03]
I do believe how a person raises a pet is the number one factor of how an animal behaves. Not all dogs are cujo dogs. One time my DH and I were taking a walk and some guy was out walking his pit bull. I didn't think anything of it, went over and bent down to pet it just like I would have any other dog, and he was so adorable and loveble, licking my hand and loving the attention he received. I never even once gave a thought that the dog would have attacked me for no reason.
I didnyeah, go ahead and try it, your fingers look tasty, you don. HA HA, but to everyone else in the family he was adorable and wanted to be pet and held. I had an aunt who had a poodle that was mean as anything. So all dogs are different.
I think its horrible that bad people have trained dogs to do bad things, but nobody should judge a dog by its cover. Me particularly, I am a cat person, but everyone in my family has a dog or two.
I too would find it upsetting for people to judge one breed of dog who you find loveable and adorable just because of somethings that have happened with other owners. I remember awhile back Rottweilers were getting a bad name.
I'm glad there are people like you out there who will give a pet the love and attention they need. Thank you.
Aging parents [2008-10-02]
Well, ya know, you just do what you need to do during these times. I helped care for both my folks and they each died in their mid 60s of cancer. I did a lot of praying to find the strength and really kept remembering I only had one mom and one dad and after all they had given up to give us kids a good life growing up, it was the absolutely least I could do. My brothers and sister were just great too and we got to the point we took shifts, even when they were hospitalized. Looking back, we had some really very nice moments. I can actually say Ihaveno regrets and feel no guilt about perhaps what I should have done later. If you do have siblings, ask for help. Take care of yourselves as you really are not as capable of caring for your parents otherwise.

I find I am going into a depression each day as time goes on. The root cause is home sickness. I live far away from my family where the only way to see them is to fly. This happens maybe once every 3 or 4 years (which is how often I go back). I want to go back to see my family so badly my heart just aches, sowas thinking maybe betweenThanksgiving andChristmas time frame (we donthat way it would give things time to settle, but I just haven Also, with the crisis and election coming up there is a lot of uncertainty too, and I can't throw too much at him (he can't handle it). - Believe me in this household the impending gloom and doom are an every day part of our lives and our talks what we'd do if certain things were to happen.

Of course I may just be thinking too much of this, but at this point not sure and I get more and more depressed the more I think about it. As for traveling, just do it. Flying is statistically safer than driving anyway. I fly 2-3 times per year and, while I don't like it much, I figure if it's my time to go, I'm gonna go - flying, driving, hit by a bus or whatever! You can't live your life waiting for crap to happen or you'll never leave your house!
I agree [2008-09-30]
It is that indeed. There are times where he says he won't listen cos there is nothing he can do, but then it goes around and around.
I actually do not mind traveling at all. I think I realized that the last time I flew when I realized I didn't care if I lived or if I went down. At least I'd be with my family on the other side. Once I adopted that attitude I had no fear of flying anymore. I do agree whenever my time is up, that's when it will happen and it could happen anywhere any time.
Really can't blame the govt on this one - sm [2008-09-29]
We all take responsibility for ourselves.
Let's talk about the decisions we make and advertising.
Some people see an ad for some kind of miracle weight loss drug. We know it isn't going to work the way the ad says it will but... still, some people buy it, the company makes big money.
Same thing with some of these shady lenders. They may be sitting on a lot of foreclosures at a time but they will STILL make a lot of money off of the rest of the people.
Now lets talk credit cards.
Same thing here. I have a Discover card that I had paid off about 2 years ago. I still had a sizable balance on another card but my plan was to close the Discover and keep the other and pay it off too.
When I called Discover to close my account after I had paid it off, they wanted to keep me of course so they offered me a fixed rate of 3.99% for three years on any balance transfers, no transfer fees, etc.
Okay. I kept the Discover, transferred the balance and closed the other card. I am now 2 months from having it paid off again but....... even though I have requested numerous times that they NOT raise my available credit, they keep doing it. My available credit is now up to $14,000.00.
Excuse me but I am NOT that stupid as to charge that much on a credit card, no matter what the interest rate is but..... Some people do it and end up in big trouble.
The trick of it is that people need to be smarter than that. It's OUR money, OUR risk. Card companies don't give a rip if they over extend credit to people. They will find a way to squeeze the money out of them.

Burlington, Vt. - This morning, PETA dispatched a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of ice cream icon Ben Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace the cow's milk in their products with human breast milk. PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves. PETA points out to Cohen and Greenfield that such a move on their part would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health at the same time.
The fact that human adults consume huge quantities of dairy products made from milk that was meant for a baby cow just doesn says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. Everyone knows that JerryFor more information, please visit PETA's Web site Blog.PETA.org or click here.
PETA Jerry's Homemade Inc.Dear Mr. Cohen and Mr. Greenfield,
On behalf of PETA and our more than 2 million members and supporters, I'd like to bring your attention to an innovative new idea from Switzerland that would bring a unique twist to Ben and Jerry's. Storchen restaurant is set to unveil a menu that includes soups, stews, and sauces made with at least 75 percent breast milk procured from human donors who are paid in exchange for their milk. If Ben and Jerry's replaced the cow's milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers--and cows--would reap the benefits.
Using cow's milk for your ice cream is a hazard to your customer's health. Dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer. The late Dr. Benjamin Spock, America's leading authority on child care, spoke out against feeding cow's milk to children, saying it may play a role in anemia, allergies, and juvenile diabetes and in the long term, will set kids up for obesity and heart disease--America's number one cause of death.
Animals will also benefit from the switch to breast milk. Like all mammals, cows only produce milk during and after pregnancy, so to be able to constantly milk them, cows are forcefully impregnated every nine months. After several years of living in filthy conditions and being forced to produce 10 times more milk than they would naturally, their exhausted bodies are turned into hamburgers or ground up for soup.
And of course, the veal industry could not survive without the dairy industry. Because male calves can't produce milk, dairy farmers take them from their mothers immediately after birth and sell them to veal farms, where they endure 14 to17 weeks of torment chained inside a crate so small that they can't even turn around.
The breast is best! Won't you give cows and their babies a break and our health a boost by switching from cow's milk to breast milk in Ben and Jerry's ice cream? Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,Tracy ReimanExecutive Vice Presidenthttp://www.peta.org/mc/NewsItem.asp?id=11993

Newman was nominated for Academy Awards 10 times, winning a regular Oscar in 1987 for The Color of Money and two honorary ones. He was equally at home in comedies such as The Sting and dramas such as Hud.
So sad. What a handsome man he was.
Paul Newman [2008-09-27]
I feel Paul Newman was/is a man with much integrity and has done so many positive things in his life. I can relate to the blessing of having a long-time marriage (I am half his age but have been married over 20 years to a wonderful guy). I must have seen Cool Hand Luke dozens of times in my life. Paul never had to push himself towards others to leave a provoking and lasting impression on the positive side. I am glad he is no longer suffering. Now, heaven is able to enjoy those wonderful, full-of-life blue eyes.
Some one please enlighten me.... [2008-09-27]
why do people think because you are single, you are not happy or are incapable of having a best friend in friends? Does that ONLY come with marriage? Sorry but I have the same thing with friends - I just don't sleep with them. I love my friends, they support me, and put up with my bad days, etc., as I do for them.
For all you married people who think only certain emotions come with marriage -you are wrong. You can have the same exact relationships with friends but as I said, no sex is involved.
So what am I missing out on by not being married? I have love, respect, support, good times, bad times, everything that married people have. I feel the only thing I am missing out on is the drama, fighting, asking for permission to go out, etc., all that good stuff. I have been on both sides of the coin and I choose being single as you choose being married. Just please do not speculate that my life is not the same as yours because I am not married. I don't even have to miss out on sex as I can sleep with whoever I choose.
I thought this was 2008 and not the 1950's!! I'm surprised there are still closed minded people about this.
Yeah they do need posters over there [2008-09-27]
I've already got in trouble for posting that it was boring over there and got an e-mail that was rather defensive because I even said it and I did say it nicely.
There are no job ads; same ole Diskriter, Focus...
Same posters all the time... blah, blah
I This board is much more exciting and informative.
How about that temporary filling stuff? [2008-09-27]
I remember getting it back a few years ago OTC at a local pharmacy when I lost a filling and had EXTREME pain. I want to say DentTemp or something like that. It It had a little bit of that clove oil stuff mixed in to help numb any pain as well. Huge lifesaver since my dentist couldnfit me in for what seemed like an eternity.Good luck!
