Beauty is as beauty does.
yes I like the peaches too but forget the veggies [2008-05-08]
you CAN add them to your kid's food for added vitamins. I might just start buying carrots and adding them to my kid's Chef Boyardee!
We can our veggies every year...sm [2008-04-26]
We go out to the countrysideto U-Pick veggie fields. Last year picked lots of tomatoes for 20 cents a pound. Also picked or bought eggplant, peppers, pears, apples, peaches. We canned the tomatoes andfruits; froze the peppers, and ate the eggplant (not sure how to preserve those yet). We also freeze snap peas from the garden and some other stuff. Whoa, I sound like a little country Cathy, don Anyway, hopefully this helps support the farms/farmers and keeps their land away from developers. Off my soap box now.

ocean and might get eaten by a shark someday or live an area that sees a lot of hurricanes/tornados/blizzards. I think the whole state of Florida should pay more because they have more sun exposure than the north and run a higher risk of skin cancer.
And definitely charge more for the sex-crazed teenagers that might contract an STD and how about all the tots in daycare bringing home who knows what. Shall we go on?
I have always grown veggies - sm [2008-04-18]
And this year it looks like doing so will really pay off! I mean, for a few dollars I can get enough plants to cover my 100 sq feet of raised beds and really make a dent in the cost of produce, which we eat a lot of. Happy gardening!

Don't forget to fill out FAFSA [2008-01-20]
Web site:
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
The info you fill out is used by the school, your state, and the US government to award financial aid in the form of grants, gov't loans (which would be in your daughter's name), and scholarships.
Filling out the FAFSA is how I'm spending my day today, once I stop procrastinating. It's a PITA but worth it.

BirdsEye mixed veggies too. Scoop about 1/2 cup out of the package and pop in the microwave while the chicken is grilling.
I buy the big bag of mixed veggies and a bag of boneless chicken tenders. I grill up a bunch of the chicken, then cut it into bite size pieces when it has cooled. I use freezer containers (I think Rubbermade) and mix the veggies and chicken together, then fill the containers, pop it in the freezer for when I want a single serving, like for lunch. When I want to use them, I add about 1 tsp of water, put the lid back on loosely and zap it for about 1.5 minutes. Easy Peasy

I looked on Google and got totally carried away reading about the lovebirds. One thing, if your birds are hand-fed they will be much better pets, will allow you to handle them when they are grown. If you have no dogs or cats, you might even let them have a birdie playground on top of the cage, but that's for somebody who has really worked with the little guys since Day One of life. Have Fun!

Oh God how could I forget when my husband and I first met sm [2007-11-21]
I was invited to the in-laws for Thanksgiving. I was SOO in love with my husband back then and wanted to impress his family so much! A few weeks before Thanksgiving I had found this yeast roll recipe TO DIE FOR! I would roll the bread, let it rise, bake them, and they would rise about 5 times it's size with a delicious, light, fluffy flavor. So, I told my soon-to-be mother-in-law I would do the rolls (to feed 25+ people).
Well, I prepared the night before but we had had a bad frost and the house was COLD! I woke up the next morning and the bread had risen just a little bit, but I thought I'd bring them anyway and bake them there. All 60 or so pieces! I got to their house (good thing they had a double oven) and began baking the rolls thinking they would rise with the heat from the oven. They never did! They ended up being as heavy as a hockey puck (I swear), gooey, chewy, and just plain bad. The only person that ate them was my soon-to-be father-in-law (whom I adore to this day!). This was in a pretty small town so the only thing open was the Git-N-Go gas station. I knew they didn't carry any bread.
Can you imagine how mortified I was???? The one thing I was asked to bring and BOMBED it. So, we all went without bread that year. Needless to say, they've never asked me to bring the rolls ever again. Come to think of it, they haven't asked me to bring anything since! I swear! haha

Recently I babysat a very young baby and had to really think about what to do with her! Over time we do forget these things.
I think we expect that kids won't like veggies, and .... [2007-11-16]
I think that generally, in this country we do a very bad job of cooking vegetables. And, I think that we just generally expect that kids don't like vegetables. I grew up eating a Mediterranean diet. My grandparents and most of my neighbors were Italian immigrants. We lived in a part of NJ where you could grow just about anything. We had lots of fresh vegetables, lots of fish, and my grandmother made all of her pasta by hand with a combination of white flour and semolina. I don't think any vegetable was cooked longer than a minute or two, and there were always piles of vegetables at every meal. It was just part of the diet.
I have a Korean foster son, and he enjoys things like smoked squid legs and seaweed. It's just the normal diet for his culture. Kids in other countries eat all sorts of things that Americans consider ghastly. So, really, I think it's more just our culture. Americans tend to give kids more bland, smooth foods for a longer time, and then later, the fast food, high-sugar, high-fat culture kicks in. It's just so bad for all of us. I remember thinking that roasted peppers were the best thing in the world, and I clearly remember eating them for lunch when I was too young to go to school. I don't think you'd find too many American parents who'd consider roasted peppers toddler food! LOL
That's my theory, anyway.

A very small town in West Texas [2008-07-03]
I live in an 890 sq foot rock house. I am guessing at the sq foot actually. It is close to 900 but not quite there. It ihas 2 bedrooms, 1 bath. Metal roof. I live close to the schools. I live 2 blocks from the local hospital. I just applied for a job there in fact. I worked 8 years for a big 300-bed multispeciality hospital that was 35 miles away. I left because of the climbing gas prices and I thought I needed a break from the office politics. I started working for an on-line transcription company and for some reason just cannot seem to produce the lines or make half the money I was making at the hospital. I have been here 6 months already. I applied to another company to try my luck there and they offered me a job but I read in the paper yetserday this little hospital here is hiring. They do light transcription, filing, I forget what else it said. The best part is I will have benes. As I was applying a nurse recognized me and was telling me about them and they have improved since I worked there 10 years ago. I hope the pay has as welland I hope they still like me. LOL.
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved pet [2008-07-02]
That was so sad to hear your story. The worse part of it was that your beloved pet died and I feel such sympathy for you and what you must be going through.
What has this country become when so many people are sue happy. DH and I have talked about wanting to start a business growing veggies and raising talapia fish to sell but I said in today's day and age there is no way I will sell anything anyone eats as there are too many people out there waiting to creat a law suit. Makes me ashamed to live in a country with so many scam artists out there trying to make a quick buck. You know what, whether your dog bit her or a bone scratched her, there were no marks or anything. If her foot was mangled or something I could understand but please - give me a break. I'm glad for you it wasn't any worse (money wise), but am deeply saddened you lost such a wonderful pet. I still grieve for my cats (and they died 8 years ago). I hope things get better for you and hope that person will get her comeuppance.

who is pathetic. This person is simply expressing an opinion and you are being extremely rude. that no respect for another opinion. And I agree with them. what good will money do to alleviate your daughter's fears? Perhaps a more calm and reasoned approach would be more effective instead of aggravating the situation by engaging in battle. By law, hospitals have to report animal bites and the animal has to be impounded for a period of time. If none of this has happened, i find it hard to believe there was any significant injury. Chill out. Help your child and forget the legal battles. Do not be a part of the problems of this sue crazy society.

When I was 34. I donspecial for my b-day. Oh yea, the last time he took me out to eat specially for my b-day was 1989, but dinner was a disaster so after that I just said forget it. Usually we have pizza delivered. So I'm now 48 and I'd give anything to turn the clocks back about 28 years. So much I would do differently and so many things I wouldn't do.
This works! [2008-06-27]
I did the same. It only took one summer (last year) of doing this and then we slowly tapered off the chore chart. I would forget to print it off the computer from time to time. Since then I no longer have to ask but when I do it is already done, just had to get in the habit of doing it without question, I think. My child is like OPs that he really is a great kid but for some reason brushing teeth was a nightmare twice a day every day. The only difference in our allowance chart was that for each item completed (without being asked or questioned) my child would get 25 cents - totaled at the end of the week. He still had to do everything, it was just a matter of initiative and no arguments on his part. I think max would be $5 a week or something like that. I had it calculated out so I new there was a limit. Truth be told, he asked for more than $5 of stuff every time we went to the store (and that was another fight) so this did double-duty in that if we went to the store he had to use his own money. Amazing how picky kids get when its their money.

I don't need pills or booze, but I am not surprised that you do. Child abuse is not okay. I have contacted a moderator to request that they track down this nut job and report her to the authorities in whatever state she lives in. She sounds unbalanced and dangerous, and in my opinion this poor child needs to be protected. They also need to make the child's father aware of the venom this woman is directing at his child.
It sounds to me like this child is simply responding to her bratty behavior and she is the one who needs to be reigned in.
Unlike you, I do not believe that child abuse is acceptable --- most people do not take pills or alcohol to forget that fact, obviously it helps you, though.
breast reduction [2008-06-05]
I keep mulling over the same thing, but I am 50. I have huge grooves in my shoulders, and have had cervical disk problems, fusion and all. I wonder if that is why I have neck problems because I never had an accident or anything. I am a 36G or H if I can find it. Forget about breast-feeding my kids, I felt like I would fall over from the weight of them and couldn't wait until they went back to normal (for me anyway :) I am only 5Ɖ, slightly overweight. I think being so huge on top makes you look heavier anyway. I still think about having it done. I am sure my ins would pay for it, just so afraid of the pain and scars, but now you have me thinking again!
Fo Done: Is it right to leave a husband... [2008-05-27]
My answer to your question, in your case, is: No.
Maybe now you reject your husband so much because of this letter he wrote you, but I am sure that he regrets it and he wrote it in a state 'when he was out of his mind'. He apologized!
It is very seldom that men apologize.
Give him some t i m e to prove (oh my, I really think in this case it is prove, because it can be replaced by 'showing', but if the majority says it's proof, ok, then it's proof, I am confused now) that he wants to treat you better, give him another chance.
Don't forget, but forgive.
I am the only one who advises you to stay; I cannot believe this. All others give you their own 'horror stories', much worse than yours. Is this giving advice? Counseling?
Keep in mind, you can often give it a try, make it a little better, day by day, it takes only o n c e to leave and this is it, it's final.
Maybe if you stay, down the road, you will thank me for telling you to stay.
But......if he starts to physically abuse you, leave immediatley.
Now I am already expecting comments like....
'emotional abuse is even worse than physical abuse....etc....'
It depends on the grade of verbal abuse; some people regard even criticism as emotional and verbal abuse.
You are such an important and beautiful person [2008-05-25]
It sounds like you have done a lot to try to keep this marriage together, but it seems obvious your husband is not interested in that. You need to take care of yourself. Forget about him. If he is not interested in having a relationship with you I would move on. I know it has to be heartbreaking when you love someone so much but they don't return the feelings. If it was me in your shoes I would start making preparation to move closer to family or friends and start a new life for myself. You sound so down on yourself and you need to realize you have done nothing to deserve this. Again, if it was me, I would take some classes that would help feel good about yourself like some cooking, dancing, art or whatever you like to do. I think your closest friends will be your best people to talk to. You said you just want to go home to your mom, dad and brother and be happy again and that is definitely what I would do. I think you know in your heart it will not work out and I am truly sorry you are going through this. I'd say pack up what is yours, and move on back home. Your family can be your greatest ally and strength. They will help you with whatever you are going through. Also remember, there are hundreds of men out there who would be happy to share a wonderful relationship with you. First though I would take care of yourself, learn about yourself, who you are as a person, what your needs and goals are in life and then go for it! You are a beautiful person and you deserve more happiness than what you are going through with him.
If my two teens ever talked to me like that.......sm [2008-05-25]
I would probably punch them in the mouth and knock their teeth out! But, then again, I do not talk to them that way either.
My son is 6, 280 lbs, college football player, and I would have no problem knocking him out if he talked like that to me......ever!!!
Teens do try to get away with things, and sometimes forget who they are actually speaking to their parents and not their friends on the street - no excuse ever. With that type of behavior, they might find their bags out on the curb.
Would never tolerate it!!!
Teens recycling biz [2008-05-22]
Here I have two teens and we live in a fairly rural area where job opportunities are limited enough as an adult, forget about being a teen looking for a job.
The kids came to me last night and have come up with a business idea for the two of them. Recycling.
Neither are quite old enough to drive yet. The eldest will be driving in about 8 months so any driving will have to be done by dear ol' mom of course.
My question is for anyone who regularly recycles. Is collecting for money even worth it? We already recycle but it is packaged separately and picked up with our other trash and WE pay them to pick it up.
Anyone?
Thanks
Effexor works wonders for me...sm [2008-05-21]
I I have chronic depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, and social anxiety disorder.Effexor pretty much cures all of these things for me. It was only prescribed to me for itplus. It hasnor lose weight, so no problem there.
Now, Effexor was not the 1st antidepressant I tried. There were others that seemed to workedfor me but the side effects (constant headache, stomache ache, drowsiness, insomnia or what have you) were too much to deal with. After trying many over the years, Effexor is the one that works the best for me.
I have heard that Effexoris awful to stop though, and I believe it. I take it at night because it makes me drowsy and if I ever forget to take it - woo boy! I wake up feeling practically like I have a hangover (very dizzy and groggy) and I have to take it right away.Ido worry about the long-term effects of it, but it helps me so much I don

So, everyone is different. It can be very long, tough process of trial and error finding the med. that works best for you, but it can make a big, positivedifference in your life if you can find one that works well for you, whether you just take it for a little while or (like me) long-term.
I was diagnosed with GAD in 2005. I think everybody's different as far as meds go. SM [2008-05-20]
I am on Effexor XR 150 mg a day and it works wonderfully for me, although when I forget to take my pill, I do get that strange dizzy, buzzy feeling that someone below described. I also have Klonopin if I need it. It's not as strong as Xanax, but it takes the edge off and helps with sleep.
I I have always been a worrier ever since I can remember. I bite my nails, but it was always manageable worrying. Then in the fall of 2005, I had a full blown panic attack. It was the worst experience of my life and I hope that I never have to go through it again. I had a gallbladder attack. I new it was my gallblader. I knew I wasn I started feeling lightheaded, dizzy, and like I was in a tunnel. I was at work and someone told me I should go to the employee health nurse. I did and my BP was through the roof, my pulse was 130, and the nurse just ripped that BP cuff off my arm and said you need to be seen in ER and made sit in a wheelchair and wheeled me down there!
The irony is the more urgent she acted, the worse my panic got. Finally, it was established that I was not having a heart attack, but still my body was freaking out. I could not calm down. Then I started crying and cried for two weeks straight. I couldn I didn I didn I just basically sat in my house, on my couch for two weeks straight crying and fretting. My doctor tried me on several different medicines including Lexapro and Zoloft, both did nothing for me but make feel nauseous. Then he wanted to prescribe an antipsychotic which made me freak out even more. Being a medical Transcriptionist and knowing about drugs, side effects, etc. was NOT conducive to my anxiety disorder!
Finally, I found a female nurse practitioner who was wonderful. She new exactly what I was feeling. Told me her daughter had the same issues and started me on Effexor. I have been panic attack free going on three years. I get what I call mini panic attacks where I can feel myself starting to freak out, but I've taught myself relaxation and breath techniques that calm me down.
Idisorder as me, ya know. When I They were afraid of me, really. My mom kept saying you need to snap out of it. Yeah, ma. If only it were that easy!
How are your neighbors [2008-05-18]
Well it started off to be a wonderful day. I made myself a cup of coffee, grabbed a new book I wanted to start reading, and just wanted to sit on my back porch and relax in the morning breeze and listen to the birds, but 5 minutes later it just went downhill.Problem is my neighbors have now decided to play music quite loud. It wasn So forget about reading and the peace and quiet. Came inside and the neighbors on the other side decided to mow their law, and then neighbors next to them are hedge trimming. So, now im on the puter looking up other places to live that are a little more in the country where neighbors are not so close (right now if I was to talk to one neighbor the other 4 neighors on all sides of me would hear the conversation. I grew up in the country where the closest neighbor was my grandparents and it took us 5 minutes to walk to their house - so I really really really miss the peace and quiet.
Wanted to know what other people think of their neighbors and if they get equally uptight when their neighbors place loud music (and its not like classical or smooth jazz or anything - it Oh yes we have another neighbor who decides to mow his lawn between 8:30 and 9 pm, and the other neighbor across the street (we call him Mike the Mechanic) has opened a car repair thingy at his house (but no business signs) and he Drives us nuts! And on top of that school is not even out yet and there are lots of neighborhood kids that scream and play on the weekends (some are funny and a delight to watch, and some are obnoxious), so know once summer vacation hits it will be worse (we moved in last September so we don't know what the summers are like yet).
Is anyone else like us and does anyone think there is any place in America that you can get some peace and quiet from all the noise.
