Subject: Dosepak vs. dose pack I know this has been asked 100 times, but i would like some clarification advise from anyone willing to give it!! Medrol dosepak is a brand name and should be typed as such; however, i see so many times MTs typing Dosepak on things like prednisone and Sterapred. I cannot verify that anything other than Medrol should be Dosepak but is there some sort of unwritten rule i missed??? Help!! Any and all advise is appreciated.

Local injection prep [2008-12-26]
Subject: Local injection prep I am stumped on the prep material being used- the posterior aspect of her left shoulder is well prepped with something ending in quin sounds like ciproquin or siproquin? and injected with 2.5 cc of 0.5% sensorcaine, 2.5% cc of 2% lidocaine and 80 mg depo-medrol. Class: Steroid.
Actions: Anti-inflammatory, suppresses immune response (especially in allergic reactions).
Indications: Severe anaphylaxis, asthma/COPD, possibly effective as an adjunctive agent in the management of spinal cord injury.
Contraindications: None in the emergency setting.
Precautions: Must be reconstituted and used promptly. Onset of action may be 2-6 hours and thus should not be expected to be of use in the critical first hour following an anaphylactic reaction.
Side Effects: GI bleeding, prolonged wound healing, suppression of natural steroids.
Dosage: General usage: 125-250 mg.
Spinal cord injury: Initial bolus of 30 mg/kg administered over 15 minutes, followed by a maintenance infusion of 5.4 mg/kg/hr.
Routes: IV, IM.

Subject: see inside Sounds as though he is confusing 2 meds here, saying brand-name for 1 drug but the generic for another. Medrol is methylprednisolone. Decadron is dexamethasone. (I've had that happen, and I assume you are hearing it correctly.) Could (s)he be saying or between the two or possibly correcting himself/herself?
