History Channel and a turkey sandwich!

Posted By: Hayseed on 2007-06-05

Every now and again I get WICKED insomnia myself...definitely stress related.  It totally sucks too, I know what you're goin' through.  Throws everything outta whack.

Tylenol PM works really well for me...just one tablet and I'm out for a minimum of 9 hours.  Wine will make me sleepy but really just puts me out for a 2-3 hour nap.  Otherwise, just my daily chores and typin' work is enough to make me want to be in bed by 7 and not get up until the alarm goes off at 5.

"They" say to set a schedule and try to stick to it.  No naps during the day, and the bedroom is only for sleeping and, er, well no tv and no food anyway ;-)  I also use a white-noise machine (actually just a fan that I affectionatly call "noisy fan") and have one of those Plug-Ins in a relaxing scent (lilac).

Being anal retentive, I find I can fall asleep easiest knowing that all the house stuff is done (dishes, laundry, coffee maker prepped, etc) and when I get up everything is clean and ready for the next day.

Good luck with it all...have the hot flashes hit yet?

because of healthy diets we are either going to grow feathers and molt due to the poultry, OR fish scales from all the fish...think feathers are prettier and softer, myself!
Best sandwich ever!
I toasted white bread, picked some lettuce from the garden and put a little sesame dressing on it, some chedder cheese and scrambled egg with a pinch of garlic salt and pepper.  It was SO good.  Just had to share :-)

Truly A Day for the History Books

DH replaced the empty toilet paper roll last night.

In the 32 years we have been together, this is the first time I can remember him replacing a roll. Please don't tell anyone else because they would probably kick him out of the He Man Club, which all men who don't replace rolls (and that would be 99% of them) secretly belong to.

This is one of those days where, years from now, I will think back about what I was doing when I discovered it. (Sort of like people do with other significant historical events.)

In my world, this is at least as big as discovering a cure for cancer, landing a man on the moon, or discovering life in outer space, so I just wanted to share the good news with you - because, ladies, it proves that there is hope for the rest of you!

There are several to watch and I enjoyed them very much!
You were just ahead of your time!
Checking Your Man's History Because
In Internet Explorer web browsers:

To just check history, click on the top left area of the browser window where it shows a yellow star. You'll see three choices toward the top of that menu: Favorites, Feeds, and History. Click on History. You'll see everything stored there since the last time the history was cleared.

Now, if you want to set the computer to save the History longer than it's saving it already (for example, you don't see anything from last week, but you wish you could see it next week when you come back again...) Do this:

Top Right of your browser window, you'll see the word "Tools". Click on it, and there's a drop-down menu. Look at the very bottom of the menu, and you'll see the words "Internet Options" Click on that. You'll see a pop-up box with different stuff in it. The second one down is browsing history. Click on "settings" within that section and then look at the bottom of the new pop-up box. You'll see a thing you can set to choose how many days to store in history. Change that number to show however frequently you want to check his history. If you want to check his history once per week, set it to 10 days, to give yourself a little leeway in getting back to it.

If your Man is being sneaky and deleting his history, there isn't much you can do about that without installing Spyware on the computer. If the computer is his alone or provided through his employment, you're risking privacy laws to spy on him. If it's a family computer, then you're using it too, and you should have a right to view the history on it.

Anyone out there with a history of Hashimotos thyroiditis? sm
I was diagnosed with Hashimotos nine years ago while pregnant with my daughter. I also ended up with Bells palsy and numerous other problems--almost all endocrine related. I was on synthroid for a few years and then went into remission. I have recently been feeling so tired and run down, dry skin, hair starting to fall out, ect. At first I chalked it up to just being somewhat depressed since my mother recently passed away, but then I remembered the Hashimotos thing. I went to the doc for a cold and asked to have the thyroid checked. This doc is aware of my history, but did not treat me initially when I first had the Hashimotos. He only checked a TSH and that came back fine. If I am remebering correctly I had to have full thyroid panels done and antibody testing the first few years. I am wondering if this doc missed doing more testing and should I just skip him and go to an endocrinologist? If anyone has experience with Hashimotos I would like to hear what kind of testing and things you have to do.  Thanks for any help or insight.
if they had read their history books, they would not need to ask..nm

Especially if you have a family history of breast cancer sm

You might even want to start earlier than age 40 with your mammograms.  You can start at age 30 or 35 and have them every two or three years until age 40, and yearly after that. It is particularly important if members of your family have had breast cancer at an early age.

As a former x-ray tech, I can tell you that a mammogram should be no more uncomfortable than having your blood pressure taken, unless you are already having breast pain. Sometimes your skin can get pinched at an awkward angle under the pressure plate, and that will hurt. If that happens, TELL the mammographer immediately, and she will adjust it.

I did hundreds of mammograms while I was an x-ray tech. I always took a little extra time to smooth out the skin and try to make sure that my patients did not experience discomfort. Some patients had fibrocystic disease or other breast issues which made it painful no matter how careful I was. So I tried to work as quickly as I could to minimize the discomfort.

The point is, a mammogram should not be an unpleasant experience. The mammographer is a professional; you should feel no more uncomfortable exposing your body in a mammography room than you would in the examining room of your doctor's office. The mammographer wants your experience to be pain-free and as pleasant as possible; sometimes that may require some communication on your part.

But please, PLEASE have regular mammograms.  It breaks my heart when I transcribe reports on young women in their 30s who have metastatic breast cancer. I always wonder how many children they will be leaving behind without a mother.

retired homemaker for social history -
most of us know that would mean dead!!!  Like Social Security comes in and does the dishes for us?
If I knew there was a history of cheating on former wives,
then my opinion would be different. I think that once cheating occurs, it is more likely to be repeated in future relationships. Not saying that this is your case, but it would worry me.
So you can pinpoint her behavior change. What is her history before she came to you? nm

She has news channel no one else has?
I have home page as CNN and nothing mentioned, no news on local 3 channels, no CNN, Fox or MSNBC.
Saw on Discovery Channel sm
Special showed Nigerians conning people with phony history, etc., and the poor donors being lied to. It's a horrible situation both for the donor and recipient. The only ones who benefit are the con artists big $$$$.
we had 1 channel when we were north
and it was great. We only had an antenna. Got used to just those shows that came on and if I didn't like something on TV I read or did something else.

For some reason I enjoyed TV much better when I didn't have so much to choose from. Now it's all garbage.

I hate TV but do find I keep it on for noise.

All I say is GO FOR IT. My sister says she wishes she cut the TV off more with their son. Now he's hooked, but their daughter has very little interest in TV. She reads and plays and does other stuff.
you have to do a channel re- scan!
Press 'menu' on your remote control
Go to 'Channel Menu'
press 'Auto Scan'

Sytsem will do a Channel scan and look for all available channels and start sending 1st channel.
It's a video from a news channel
That shows how crooks can use a method called bumping to open DEADBOLT doorlocks in a couple of seconds.

The crook has some sort of key made, they stick it in your lock, rap on it with a screwdriver or small mallet, and bingo, it's like the key was made for your lock!
Yes, I enjoy Discovery Channel.
I'll watch for that. I can add it to my DVR recordings, too.

food network channel

I watch the Food channel and now they have a special:  Giada in Paradise.  Love love love Santorini (Greece) where this is filmed but I am so distracted by Giada's massive ginormous head and large numbers of teeth along with her phony inflection. It is driving me nuts!  How mean am I??  She just irks me and it's ruining the show for me.

oh puh-LEEZE!!! Turn the channel if you don't like it. nm
x
Well, it's actually Nickelodeon, not Disney Channel.
Since everyone is trying to set the record straight here, but I am willing to bet they don't even know what they are going to do yet.

Also, the "Zoey movie" didn't answer a thing. It was left as a cliffhanger...sort of.
My cat loves the Animal Channel.
I swear she does. She is sitting on my desk watching someone fish, catching Marlin, as I am typing this. I have noticed with other Animal Channel episodes she will watch. There is now a bunny going across the street, then back again and she follows her head with the bunny running. No, I am not crazy. My kitty actually does this. Anyone else?
I turn off the food channel when she comes on. I cannot deal with her at all. I would much rather
watch anyone else on their but her.
There is another guy on the food channel who eats yucky!

Perhaps an entire cable channel devoted to multiples?

turkey
This works in a roaster or oven

Melt about a stick of butter add to taste salt, pepper. Chop celery into one to two inch pieces.
Chop onions into large pieces.

After rinsing the turkey and draining the water out you pour the butter mixture into the bird turning it to coat the whole inside. Then stuff the cavity of the bird with the celery and onions (personally I add some garlic as well).

You then place the bird in your pan and rub the breast skin with softened butter the sprinkling with your own choice of spices.

If you have questions feel free to email. BTW you never ever get a dry bird when you cook it this way and have lots of drippings for dressing/gravy. Hope you have a great Holiday!

Popup on ham?? Seen on turkey.
Have a contest going on here. Someone says she has seen a popup which shows a ham is done and I said have not, seen on turkeys. Anyone know is this true or ?
Turkey should never be "bacon."
That is so wrong...its like having a chicken hot dog!
You can use them in turkey chili for one
thing. DH is the cook, but he does that. After adding chili powder it will still taste like chili, which he puts basil in anyway.

Ground turkey (brown first)

tomato sauce
canned tomatoes
onion
canned red beans
canned black beans
frozen lima beans
Picsweet frozen corn added near end of cooking time.

Add browned ground turkey and all ingredients in a crock pot and cook together, except hold the corn out until near the end for sweetest, freshest zing in your chili. The frozen limas and corn are colorful and fresh-tasting additions, we find.
That little thingy that is at the end of the Turkey?
looks like a fan do yall cook that or cut it off?I saw Martha Stewart cook her's and she left it on
HELP! Turkey Day dilema

We are going to MILs for Turkey Day.  She made a big thing out of doing dinner and everything for her family this year.  My husband just went to her house and comes home to tell me we are going to starve tomorrow.  lol  There are 9 people in the immediate family and she has invited at least 4 other people that we know of.  She is making a small turkey breast, 4 potatoes for mashed potatoes, gravy, dinner rolls and that's it!  Oh, and an apple and cherry pie.  Nothing else.  Any ideas on how I can creatively make food to take without upsetting her.  I am already bringing a pecan pie and pumpkin pie because I was "in the mood."  Any suggestions, ideas?  We are expected to spend the entire day and evening down there.  Already made plans to play cards, games, etc. and make a day out of it when I get off work.

Does anyone have a good turkey recipe?? SM

Due to last week's turn of events I'm having turkey day at my house with my husband and kids.  I've never cooked a turkey before.  I have a very large slow cooker/roaster I've never used before and would like to cook it in there.  What kid of spices do you put on it.  I've got the stuffing taken care of, but am not sure what to do with the outside of the turkey.  I'd like it to have some special flavoring if possible.

TIA for the ideas.

You're welcome! Turkey breasts are often
in the frozen section with the whole turkeys.
Second day of quitting cold turkey...

Today is my second day of quitting smoking cold turkey. I have some patches, but that is it. I am determined I will quit this time though, without a doubt.

This morning has been really hard not having a smoke with my coffee. My nerves are just on edge.

Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated!!!

Quit cold turkey because
admitted to the hospital with asthma exacerbation and put on theophylline. That is probably the worst thing ever, sped me up, no sleeping, sweating and I swore if I could get out of the hospital never again. That was 1998 and not 1 cigarette after then. I hated the theophylline more than I loved the cigarettes. What I thought would be outpatient treatment in the emergency room that day changed into a 2 week stay. I was put on prednisone and gained 26 lbs in 2 weeks, horrible. If a doctor now says prednisone, I said what is my second choice? I am remarried and thank goodness stopped the smoking, this hubby is so much against it. I never, though, call anyone else down on their habit if they smoke because I have been there myself.
Thanks! See, I didn't know you had to rinse the turkey like that! Hopefully, mom sm
will respond and tell me everything I need to know?
Speaking of 5:00. Well, I would be up at that time if I was returning home from dancing or the bar. Wait, in fact, I think I did come home on morning and find her cooking that early! Of course I went to sleep for the rest of the day. Yes, sad indeed.
