In my garden
Rose of Sharon's are about done blooming, butterfly bush is about spent because of the heat, day lilies were done blooming weeks ago! I do have one of the popular new rose bushes but I think the heat is affecting it in that it looks healthy but is not producing buds.

I cannot grow a geranium with a plug nickel. I have begonias that are doing well in pots. Marigolds do well and a purple salvia which are pretty together. I do have some petunias but my schedule has been so hectic the last few weeks that I haven't been able to take good care of them and pinch of the spent blooms. I think the heat is taking its toll on them too.

Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your 75-degree whether. The temp here is over 100 today with heat index of around 108! We desparately need rain.
Me either. I have a big garden tub
and I resent the space it takes up. What I want to do is get it out and move the washer and dryer into that space. One small tub in the house is enough for me. So I'd say most people will care more about the shower and not care about fanciness of a tub. It should look good, take up little space, and be easy to clean. A clawfoot would mean you'd have to mop under and behind it. Not great.
We are also trying to get a garden going as well.
I am also been trying to plan my menu on what is on special.
Have always had a garden. Usually have (sm)
my menu based around what we have ready in the garden. Have green onions, lettuce and radishes now. Peas coming on soon and strawberries will be turning soon. As more stuff comes on I find I buy less and less from the grocery store and usually either can or freeze the surplus. My chickens enjoy any spoiled produce thus cutting down on my feed bills for them. I have always enjoyed these things, but this year I will really appreciate the money I will be saving as well.

Hope all of us have bumper crops this year.

I used to keep it in the garden tub!
The silly cat still made a mess, but at least the dogs couldn't get to it, even if they got past the baby gate in the hall.

I would have a huge garden - nm

Herb garden

My friends planted a herb garden in thiers.  They built a square flower garden probably 6 x 6 or so, lined with 4 x 4 timbers or something of the such, planting colorfull flowers at ground level but in the tub they planted a herb garden.  Oh it smelled so good.  Chives, mint, sage, thyme, rosemary, lemon balm (made the most relaxing tea from those leaves, just pick and steep).

It truly is exciting at the Garden
Just wanted to add that when I was down on the floor the first day at breed judging I called my sister back home and she was amazed. She said, Oh my God, that sounds like so much fun! All around you could see people in seats, people standing, people all over the floor, cheering, etc. It is infectious in the best sense. The day goes by so quickly. Best In show has to be seen to be believed! They turn the lights way down and you can hear a pin drop. When the Golden Retriever went around I literally thought the place would come down. When the Dalmation, Boomer, one for nonsporting a woman about three seats from us shot up out of her seat and cheered. What fun, what a magical night to see over 20,000 people standing and cheering for man's best friend. I am so excited just talking about it. Thanks for your interest. As you see, I could go on and on. I have memories that will last forever! I tape it every year and have several years to watch.
oh drats, no garden.
just weeds and dog doo-doo.

Envy those who grow, tho.

planting a garden
I have planted a garden this year. Also as other posters I am trying to plan my shopping around coupons and store sale ads. I live in a rural area so I am planning more day trips to get things done and not running out 2-3 times a week. If possible, its done in one trip on Saturday or Sunday. I am also planning on getting a laundry line outside because I have heard it can have a significant impact on your utilities if you dry clothes outside as opposed to the dryer and started letting my dishwasher air dry instead of heat dry. Every little bit will adds up these days. Not as many weekend trips being planned for this summer either. Those that are being considered are old fashioned tent camping.
Fresh lettuce from the garden!
Luv that stuff.  Your sammy sounds delicious!  Yummmm...  TX for sharing...
Summer garden blahs
Any gardners out there?  Here in Indiana we are in the midst of this heat wave.  Our temps have run in the high 90's to over 100 for about the last two weeks.  My flower beds really have the blahs!  Any suggestions what to put in them right now?  I know mums are right around the corner but a little too early for that.  Any suggestions of something that will come up each year that brightens the garden in Aug-Sept.  My beds were so pretty this spring and early summer.  I'd like to hear your suggestions!
You know, that's what the doc said! He told me to plant a garden or
pick weeds! Amazing. I remember one time recently when I was really PMDDing I wanted to rip my family's head off (each member one by one) but sat outside on the step, in the dark and heard the leaves move in the breeze. I sat out there for I don't know how long and I contained myself and felt more peaceful. It was not weed picking (it was at night), bust just being outside of the house in the cool air listening to the nothing of nature really helped.
I do think with this job I feel guilty to leave the house. Or maybe if I do leave I will never come back, LOL. I did get a red schwinn for Christmas from my husband (a hint to get out of the house I guess), and every day I think of a reason not to get out there. We are so lucky to work at home, I wonder why I dont just do it?
Thanks for all of your suggestions everybody. I am going to make a list of all these things and together I bet I will feel much better. I do already just for your helping me here. Thank you so much! :)
I may try a veggie garden this year too.
in the past i have not had time to keep up with one but i think i will this year while working at home for MQ. maybe you have tried everything for your garden eaters, don't know but I have heard you can sprinkle black pepper all over the garden and it will keep a lot of animals out bc they do not like the smell. you have to reapply with rain but it might be worth a try.

i normally have flowers galore! but i may do some veggies this year as you said they are getting SO expensive in the stores. i have had great luck with barrel gardens in the past and they look really nice on a patio.
I'm jealous that you have garden food ready now...sm
Good luck keeping the critters out so you can eat it all yourself!
garden, fewer trips to the store - sm
Watching the sale papers for really good deals and planning meals around those. Safeway and Albertsons usually have a few 10 for $10 sales every week. I will max out those sales on a couple items if we use a lot of them.

Trying to stretch a gallon of milk is getting more expensive too. Powdered milk is skyrocketing along with everything else but it still does make a gallon last a little longer so will keep doing that. We go through at least a gallon a day, sometimes more.

Telling the kids that I am not the local taxi service for their friends and cannot provide them transportation here and there all the time. My own kids will have to work harder to combine their schedules to cut back on needless trips too.

If one is one place and another somewhere else, I will only drop off or pick up ONCE.

Used to be that the kids would have me running 4-5 trips a day. No more. If they can't leave or be picked up at the same time, too bad.
I fertilize my garden with kelp and magnesium
And I take a supplement. It is wonderful stuff. I filter my water also and take vitamins, but guilty of not giving up diet sodas!

There are a lot of yoga positions for thyroid also that you can really feel it working!
Think you had a large garden or orb-weaving spider there! Scary

Why not hit your local garden center to see what's blooming in pots

Deer and rabbits especially think my garden is an outdoor diner. (sm)
Have tried multiple things, can keep rabbits out of green beans, peas and lettuce until they get larger and not so palatable by using chicken wire bent over the rows and pegged down. The deer seem to prefer to just rip smaller branches off the fruit trees and really seem to hit the melons hard.

One of the things that I have tried and works pretty well for me is Irish Spring tied in the branches of fruit trees. I suppose it is the smell they don't like.

Anything else you come up with, please share.

The produce in the store isn't going to do anything but get higher with strikes, etc.
Large garden containers = excellent idea! :)
.
Meatloaf, baked potatoes, cukes and tomatoes out of the garden. (sm)
Maybe if I get finished with taking the grandkids to their extra-curricular activities early enough I will bake a cake. Been hungry for chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.
Ohhh how I miss cornfields and fresh garden tomatoes!
They don't grow very well in the desert...but I also don't miss the humidity in the summer and the "bird size" mosquitoes!

LOL
mine brought me a very alive green garden snake
and deposited it at my feet in the kitchen once.
Buy a bike, grow a garden, get rid of cable, take a second part time job
..
I think it's better to be up front
and honest from the start about lending $$$ and stuff (cosigning loans next?), kinda nipping it in the bud as it were. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you.
Call your local garden center for advice. Any construction nearby

I had a guy jump right in front of me
As if he didn't see me.  I didn't want to make a scene, but I thought it was very rude.  I absolutely hate cell phone usage in public.  It is very annoying.  I will purposefully make noise to interrupt.  I think cell phone usage while driving should be banned as well.  Most people are not paying the least bit of attention when they are driving and talking on a cell phone.  It is worse than driving drunk in my opinion.
especially in front of children
Once I was waiting of food at Taco Bell and a girl was talking to an employee and bragging about how when she worked in another restaurant she and her co-workers stole so much "sh*t" over and continued to repeat the word as well a further other words my son didn't need to hear. Finally I said "Please, he is only 9, can you talk about something else. She did shut up after that.
My little dog rides with me in the front
Most newer vehicles, including mine, have the ability to TURN OFF the air bag on the passenger side, which mine is unless there is a human rider. Also, we have a "Doggie car seat". A basket type seat which he rides in. There is a hook to secure him that attaches to his collar/harness. It allows him to sit high up where he can see out all the windows, plus he cannot climb on me to cause an accident. We need to treat our dogs like children and put them in a car seat. He loves it; he gets to see around and go anywhere momma goes. PS: DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG IN THE CAR, EVEN WITH THE WINDOW DOWN, IN ANY KIND OF WEATHER. The interior of your car can heat to over 100 degrees even in 50 degree weather. My sister lost two of her babies when her husband left them in the car last spring.

I liked the part where the guy had to run in front - sm
of his truck and put a rock under the tire to try to stop it, and it kept rolling over the rock. I had a truck like that once.....
better shot of the front - sm
try, try again. This is before the previous owner refinished it, it is totally black now (with all the rust removed).
We usually have babies on the front - sm
and back porches, though I got rid of the nest on the back table on the porch as it was just a drag having to worry about if the dogs were going to figure it out and eat the babies, had it barricaded in a bit last year and all surived though. It was right by the back door which we let the dogs in and out from so it took them a while to get used to that. We did not hang out plants this year out front but when we do we always end up with a nest in the plant, makes it hard to water but we still manage to do it. But no nests so far front or back, had a family of rabbits under the shed though that all survived from whatI can tell, at least our dogs did not get any. Last year had a cardinal build a nest about 2.5 feet off the ground in the backyard and my Lab knocked the babies out, we put them back in the nest and moved it to a safe location near where they had it but they ended up dying. The birds tried again though, this time in a tree right by the back porch, high enough so the dogs could not reach luckily and they all made it that time. Neat to watch every year, will have to keep a look out. The birds have been stealing my husky's tuffs of fur I am pulling out from his massive shedding going on rigiht now. Seeing them flying off with fur in their beaks is funny.
Maybe a nice garden/gazebo/outdoor wedding at a club/restaurant etc nearby? Get

Maybe you can work on your daughter to not ask to sit up front
Though, I agree, your DH is the parent and this should be a no-brainer for him. She absolutely should not be up front. Maybe if you can convince her that she shouldn't be in the front seat, as her older sister seems to know, then she won't ask. If she doesn't ask, dad won't put her up front.
It does stink, though. I've been married for 22 years to a really great guy. But occasionally, he just has no common sense, and yeah, I have to manipulate a situation. I'd be out of my mind, just like you, if my kid survived cancer and then was injured or killed because of a silly, preventable thing, like having her in the back seat.
Having known the risks up front, I decided
myself never to have a child after 30 even. I had my first at 21 and then my daughter was born when I was 29. I just had always heard the risks and did not want to take them myself. Everyone can do what they want but the older here is not always the better.
occasionally blatantly in front of them - usually (sm)
In an underhanded way - he is treating me as "subordinate" in a less obvious way in front of them most of the time. It's hard to explain. But to sum it up, my son told me the other day, "Mommy, I feel like Daddy is always trying to make you think he likes you but I don't think he really does."
Old dog keeps chewing front paw - new habit for him
any idea what causes it and if it is okay to put tea tree oil on it? He is 14 years old and has been doing this for a couple of weeks.  Has a raw spot there now.
No problem. Pay varies. Usually you buy something up front sm
and then you get paid for the shop on top of that. Usually around 20.00 for the entire shop. Takes about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on where you go. Metro area where? I live in Alabama.
Mine is in the front room
which is supposed to be I guess the "formal living room", but we never used it for that. I'm right next to two big windows so I can look out and see what's happening around me. My daugher's computer is right near mine so I can monitor her and my youngest daughter uses it for her playroom. I'm somewhat cluttered, but not overly so. Lot of pictures (my autograph collection), pens, scanner, steno book, dictionary. I've love to have doors put in, but I doubt that will ever happen.
Not sure about that. I'll have to check. I just know the gum in the front is very
bad and you can see on my teeth where it should be.  It is about 1/4 inch below that, honestly.  My nephew last night ordered Ultra soft toothbrushes on Amazon.com.  Like they told me at the dentist, this is a hereditary condition as well, and my dad had it and lost all his teeth when he was a young man.
Me too! One time hubby and I pulled in front SM

of a car doing that and put our turn signal on. Then another car pulled in front of us and did the same thing. It was a TRAIN!!! For miles it went on like that down the highway, and the guy behind us never got a clue.

Does he treat you badly in front of your children or is it
usually "behind closed doors?"
The only reason I asked if it was in front of your children or
not is because there is always a possibility of children blaming the parent who leaves, not that being verbally abusive "behind closed doors" makes it any more right.  I just wouldn't want your children to say that mommy left daddy if they were not even remotely aware of what was going on.  Obviously, from what your son said to you, he is aware of his father's behavior toward you.  We can all give you our opinions and can hand out advice (myself included), but ultimately, you are the only one who can make the decision for yourself and your children.  I would definitely spend some time praying about this as it is a major decision and a tough one at that.  If you're like me, and I think you must be from what you have said, your children are your life and mean everything to you, and how this will affect them is your main concern.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love my front loader. Kenmore. Got it 7 yrs ago.

So that's why I find feathers in my front yard sm
on occasion, and yes, they are dove feathers. Always thought it was cats. My son liked to let his chihuahua run loose but not not any more since a hawk nearly scooped him up one night. He got rid of that cute little white sweater that made him look like a skunk. Now he only goes out on a chain at night.
Have friend who has false front tooth. Can be done. Looks

Do you or did you cuss/swear in front of your children?

I was at Walmart the other day and this mother and her teen age son walked by me I could hear her say "well I ain't taking no more S$$T off them the A$$H##&s !How can people talk like that with their children!

AWFUL!

Did anyone ever have a dental implant for a front tooth and wish to say what
they thought about the whole process with wearing a flipper, etc. until the implant.
Because I think only in the US comes teh month in front of the day, giving the date..nm
