People in other countries do not chose to learn English, they HAVE to learn it in school
for a period of 8 to 12 years.
That's great! Everyone should learn to cook & learn

$$$ for showers
I would purchase a gift (a small one) and then make copies of multiple pages of monopoly money - to wrap the gift. They didn't indicate what kind of money they wanted - just lots of it - and lots of monopoly money is what they would get - either that or i would go to the dollar store and buy some play money in the kids section and wrap that in with their gift - just a subtle hint at how uncouth their greenback shower really is - I would also confront the hostesses - so that they know that this is unacceptable in the future, should they ever host another shower.
showers
I think it's appropriate to bring a wedding gift to the wedding of someone on their 2nd or 3rd marriage, but I agree that a shower is tacky if the bride has been married before, since like you say, the shower is really for the bride. I'm also not fond of wedding invitations that tell you where they're registered. While it is actually helpful it seems like they are saying, "please come to my wedding and buy me a gift that I have picked from Target."

I think a baby shower for a 2nd baby is fine if the 1st was a girl and the 2nd is a boy, something like that. I think (and this is just my opinion) that once you already have the clothes for the gender of baby you are having you shouldn't have one, but I have been to lots, some specified as diapers-only baby showers. Close family and friends will probably gift them anyway, but no need for a shower.
Showers for 2nd marriages
My cousin called and asked opinion on wedding showers. Her daughter is marrying for second time and she doesn't know if it is proper to have another shower. She has her own home and has everything she needs. This is the first wedding for future groom. We had same discussion when my son married for second time. His future wife had also been previously married and they both live together and have everything. She went and registered at several places. Her response was she didn't need anything but sure wanted things. Isn't that a bit greedy? Any opionions? Same with second and third baby showers. When I grew up you got one for the first and that was it. If a huge gap between babies maybe a small second one but not one for every baby.

Just had 3 of my own baby showers not too long ago :)
My favorite game was the one where one of my party throwers melted candy bars in diapers (1-10) and made everyone guess what kind of candy they were. It was cute because the candy bars looked like baby poop :) Candy bars used were like babyruth, crunch, twix, reeses, etc. I thought it was very unique and quite funny for everyone to try to guess.

Another game is to have everyone guess how many toilet paper squares the mother to be needs to fit around her belly. This can get a little insulting, as I had some friends guess 20+ tissues, and I was only 11 tissues. It was quite funny though and a short quick game.

Another game I have seen is sending around a bag of mini-diapers (ones you cut out of paper) folded in half with 2 out of the 10+ diapers having a little paper made poop inside (double sided sticky tape to make sure it stays in the diaper and so you can't see it from the outside like you could with glue). Something cute and quick.

I love the baby items game where the items' letters are all mixed up and you have to guess what item it is.

If you look on-line you should be able to find some other ideas too.

Congratulations on the grandbaby :)
Also might want to have cornstarch baby powder for in between showers. No Message

Oh, yuck
Where do you live Jai? I thought we had it bad. It's never that cold, but where I live we're always on the national news for having the most snow in NYS.
We are getting it to, but yuck!! sm
My doggies are loving it though! They were our romping in it instead of going potty..and my new puppy was even playing in it. Glad you like it so much..it is beautiful to look at, I just hate being out in it.

Crowns are a lot more expensive here in Georgia, especially around the Atlanta area, going rate is $1800. Crazy isn't it?
First ever male furkid here and yuck!
I have a neutered male cat who is about 2 years old now, love him so but I wondered where the big stink was coming from and turns out it is him, his behind to go into detail. I have 2 other furkids, his brotheI and female and neither one of these are smelly. He nor his brother spray on the furniture or walls, have never seen that happen but can anyone tell me why he might be so smelly- are there glands in the rear I am totally unaware or ?? Being as he is over 20 pounds probably I will have to take him to be groomed but the question is why?? He is in good health as far as I am aware. Thanks.
Yuck - I can't stand snow
Or winter. I really don't know why I still live in the Northeast. We have a lot of snow (we had a snow day already yesterday). When it's winter I don't leave the house unless it is absolutely, positively necessary.
I just said yuck to the cranberry dressing
Don't understand why you read more into yuck! Unbelievable!

Never, ever wear PJs to work in, yuck!
Always shower before starting, clean clothes every day, the deodorant, freshly brushed teeth, sometimes lightener under my eyes (tend to have dark circles). My favorite pants are stretchy black jeans by Gloria Vanderbilt, they fit me to a T and wear those in capris in summer and the long jeans in winter. I try to change up my blouses because I tend to get bored with the same. My footwear mostly sandals all year around, Memphisto or Bergies, thongs but i have to transcript with the right sandal off, of course.

My BF does all of the cooking, cleaning, shopping, errand-running, etc.

Take OTC Estroven daily and Benadryl 25-50 mg each night
Works like a charm for me - plus the Benadryl helps with my allergies and my migraines. I hit meno early (early 40s) and it sucks! Can't sleep, wicked hot flashes, restless leg, weight gain, yadda yadda... but since i've been on Estroven Plus (actually, Eckerd Drug's generic, called Estroplus) taking it daily for about a month, the symptoms are SOOOOO much better!!
Been married 1-1/2 years...still 2-3 times DAILY and still very hot for us...
I dunno....started off just as intense physical attraction, moved to serious feelings, living together, marriage, and we still both want each other 2-3 times a day.

I don't know if we're just really lucky or really just freaks, lol!!!
They're supposed to be a normal part of aging...yuck! Dunno if a derm doc can zap them or not. nm

I have a my space and use it daily to monitor my daughter and her friends
Yep thats me nosy mom but I have a few moms on my friends list lol
Oh my God. I read People.com daily. I was warned today sm

that one shouldn't read too much or watch t.v. when it comes to the VT shootings. Well, curiosity got the best of me and I read (with great regret) first accounts on 4 students who survived, played dead, jumped out windows, etc. The first student who emailed his story to People.com puts you right there with him. He played dead.  Everyone in his class died except for him and this other girl and she was wounded. I have 3 sons. My heart just broke, literally, for the first time since hearing about the tragedy. I've been sad for them, but not like this. How absolutely horrifying and terrible what has happened there. I am cringing over here at what it must have been like, the loved ones left behind, and the healing that must now take place..

I will pray extra hard tonight for everyone involved.

not a quick fix, but get some progesterone cream and use it daily; will help PMS in the long run. n

Anyone ever exerpience hair thinning/breakage with taking Benadryl daily
I have been taking one store brand Benadryl-type tablet every night before bed to help me with my allergies and to help me sleep for the past few of months. Ever since I started taking it, I have noticed that my hair is thinning and breaking very easily and is just very weak. I usually have very, very thick and full hair, but not anymore since taking it. In fact, my hair is usually so thick and heavy that I always had to go and get it thinned once a month because it made my head so hot! I stopped taking the antihistamine last night because I finally realized that may be what is causing my problem. Anyone else heard of this or had it happen?

Well, hello, learn something new each day
my daughter came by tonight to eat some collards and black-eyed peas (money and luck here "supposedly" in the south for this next year and darn if she didn’t tell me she has floaters and have had them for years (she is 34). I was talking about asking the people on the MTs if they knew of any treatment. I thought was sorta an older type deal but apparently found something new today.
You sure do learn something new every day in this biz!

We can also learn from...
We can also learn from other countries' histories and examples -- like Turkey. Today, mass demonstrations in Turkey protesting Islamist government influences and demanding secular law. And we can also learn MUCH from England. NY Times reports that Muslim Sharia laws are now in effect in 3 municipalities near London. On the British version of our "Sixty Minutes" show, a local Muslim cleric's response to the interviewer was: "Who SAYS Britain belongs to the English?!" No, the U.S. has the most liberal immigration policies in the world but certainly common sense and fair play should prevail. "Gratitude'' and ''tolerance'' for one's homeland do NOT equal acquiescence to people here illegally. Nor does ''gratitude'' and ''tolerance'' mean simply handing over one's country to those who want to relocate here but then attempt to turn this country into a replica of THEIR birthplace -- with very little return ''tolerance'' for the ways of the natives already here. Yes--natives--People and descendants of people who came here legally, lived, worked, and built this country, generation after generation, and adopted their NEW country's ways. Not insisting that people be ''tolerant''of their attempts to turn their new homeland be a replica of the country they left.
Learn to say NO
I know it's tough when it's your own dad, but hasn't he burnt you enough already? Lock your door and don't answer it. If he catches up to you and asks you to let him hang out or do his laundry, say NO. Enough is enough.

Good luck.

You have to learn to say
no, grow a backbone and. Others only take advantage of you because you are letting them. The children should be helping you out because you have age on you and yet you are being a doormat for them. What would they do if you died? Tell them no way and stick to it, otherwise you have no life to call your own.
Learn some Spanish
This whole thread in my opinion has been blown out of proportion. While living in California, I saw an attitude with SOME of the so called minority races who felt that they were "owed something." I was raised in the Midwest, and grew up in a family that did not tolerate prejudice against any race in any way, shape or form. However, as I grew older, I began to see things in the corporate world that were definitely not in the favor of the white American. I for one, have become fed up with calling a company and speaking to a customer service representative from India or elsewhere, who gives a name like "Dave, John or Mike" and you know definitely that is not their name. Plus the fact that they can barely understand English and as a consumer, I cannot understand what they are saying. We have a LOT of older Americans now with computers and the newer technology, and think about them trying to understand someone who can barely speak English.

I am also a relative newcomer to the Miami area and again, as I mentioned before, I was raised in the Midwest, where even the Hispanics and other minorities that I was raised around learned to speak English. If for example, you or I moved to France or Germany, we would be expected to learn to at least speak the language to a certain degree and that is the point that I am trying to make here -- when one moves to America, they need to learn to speak ENGLISH and it should not be the other way around.
She needs to learn about safe sex. Either you SM
discuss this with her or, better yet, see doctor and have her given some form of birth control. I think this is imperative. If she is having sex, I don't think she is going to stop. You somehow have to convince her to act responsibly. Condoms would be the best thing.
