Should I serve something before dinner?

Ok group, it is now getting to be that time again when I have to start thinking of the big dinner spread I am planning to have. I will have ham and turkey with all the trimmings but my question is this - should I have appetizers when the guests arrive, some kind of drinks, wine/champagne or just what? I can put on a good dinner when it comes to the food and all but just wondering what to do prior to the dinner. Thanks so much!

I know what I'd serve
if she was in my home. ;)
I always want to serve...I think it would be
interesting, but I usually get turned away because I am a military wife.
I heard he will have to serve no less than

9 years before he can apply for parole and then, they will probably turn him down the first time because it was a violent crime.

I also saw on the news that his total sentence is up to 33 years to life if he had to serve each count separately. They are stating that he will probably die in prison.

This light bulb went off in my head about an hour ago. Goldman set him up. Otherwise, why did Ricci (or whoever that guy is that testified against him) put the video/sound in that room? If so, hopefully no one else will get that idea if you know what I mean.

Should I serve hor'dourves ?

I am in charge of the Christmas dinner this year. I guess the group likes the cooking because this is our 2nd one in a row. Last year hubs ran behind on getting the food ready by the time of our dinner and people started sitting down at the table 1 and then another, not everyone together. I have never served hor'dourves but wondering should I and if so does anyone have some really simple ones that even a novice could make? Thanks

Lunchables are better than what most schools serve.
today our elementary school served cinnamon rolls and chili *!*!gross*!*!* and the option was PBJ sandwiches.

I say Lunchables rule. I am sure if mom is worried about keeping them cold she is concientious(sp?) enough to make sure they eat a good breakfast and an excellent dinner. Welcome to 2007
I will climb off my soapbox now and finish eating my lunchable :)
My only function in life seems to be to serve as a cat bed.
One on my lap/legs, one on my arm, and one at my head grooming my hair.
P.S. He will serve those years in isolation.
Las Vegas doesn't want to get sued if he is in general population and somebody hurts him.
As Christians we are called to serve others. That's what we are supposed to do. nm

What's for dinner??

Dinner
London broil on the grill with fried potatoes and onions and corn on the cob.
Dinner
I'm cooking up a pot of vegetable stew with Italian sausage.  We top it with pesto and parm.  I'm making cheddar buns to go along.
Dinner
Grilled cheese and turkey sandwich with a ceasar salad.
Probably just dinner
Either by ourselves or with our best friends, maybe rent a movie.
First dinner
I don't remember the first dinner I prepared for my then boyfriend, now husband...but I do remember the first dinner he ate at my house. It was butter beans, meatloaf, and fried potatos and cornbread! I was mortified when my mom asked him to stay then proceeded to give him the menu for the night. Well, to my disbelief, he absolutely loved butter beans...this was his favorite meal. I about died, being a 16 YO girl, but he loved it!

I'm making up a big pot of BBQ. You can usually get a pork loin on sale anywhere. I throw it in the slow cooker, cover it with water, and cook it for 24 hours. After that, I dump the water, pick out the fat, and shred the pork. I like to use sweet baby ray's original BBQ sauce.

This is inexpensive if you buy the pork loin on sale. I'm making some for a party tomorrow.

Usually 3-4 pounds of pork feeds 3 of us for about 3 days, unless one of us is really hungry. lol
Dinner

I will either have leftover vegetarian chili with cornbread, or leftover penne with cheese. I always cook enough to have leftovers because I hate cooking, especially everyday.  The kids (13 and 20 year old girls) will probably have fast food.  My 13 year old is a vegetarian like me so she will probably get cheese pizza or a veggie patty sandwich at Subway.  My oldest with probably have McDonald's.

What's for dinner? Looking for inspiration.

What is or was for dinner? I'm hungry & want to fix something

Easter Dinner
Just read the post below about Easter dinner.  I have a question I am almost embarrassed to ask - does anyone know an easy way to get the rind off the ham?
Need help with Easter dinner.

I am doing Easter at my house for the first time, as I am the only one with kids in my family.  I am looking for something to do that is sort of traditional, but fun.  My family does not like lamb, but all else if fair game.  I would love any ideas to help me plan for my first real holiday feast!!! Thanks and hope you all have a great holiday!

What's for dinner tonight?

Sunday dinner

Well, yeah....The boys (23 and 25) come over on Sunday afternoon before they go work to check up on us old folks and eat up our food.  They'll come in and help with prep first.  We get a lotta laughs in the kitchen.

They've been cooking since about the age of  5 and 7...I didn't have girls and they wanted to be part of the process... sous chefs (cut this, peel that, okay this is how you sautee) ....worked for me and they'll never starve wating for someone else to cook.   Cat

Looking for dinner ideas
We're having dinner guests on October 14, our friends, their 18-year-old son and his friend (who I've been told has a very hearty appetite).  It may be too cold to cook out on the grill by then.  I'm definitely not a gourmet cook, and I cringe at the thought of having dinner guests because I always wonder what would be good to make.  Lasagna is one of my favorites, but my 13-year-old daughter doesn't like it.  Would anyone care to share any ideas and/or recipes with me?  I know one of guests does not like onions.
dinner ideas
I don't know. I was kinda' thinking of broiling (or grilling if the weather permits) country style pork ribs.
Big dinner here this year but do I need
to thing about serving appetizers before dinner? It is like a show up and dinner is ready to be served so really no waiting around. Any suggestions about easy recipes?
breakfasts for dinner!
mmmm yes love those :)
I didn't take into consideration people's home lives.

I dont have kids... just two dogs! So that is why I just have a boring routine! :)

and my boyfriend doesn't eat breakfast. Man, i dont know how people do that!! :)

Sorry I have no ideas for breakfasts, im very picky as well as boring! LOL

I think I would wait until the dinner
before getting so upset. I understand there is obvious issues with your SIL and if it does pan out the way you have it in your mind right now, then you can be upset but I think it's a little premature to get that upset about it.

By the way, I'd call your daughter anyway!
Been a while - What's for dinner tonight??
Looking for ideas! :)
New dinner recipes
Hey all........I am sitting here (before lunch) thinking what the heck I'm going to make for dinner....I am sooooo tired of making the same things, week after week.....anyone have any new, easy dinner recipes??  Maybe your same-old will be new to me!
dinner ideas
Google pasta faglioli - easy and delicious, also chicken divan. I just love the one pot meals!
We don't have a holiday dinner without
mac and cheese. This is mostly due to my niece. The only thing she will eat at these major meals is kraft mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and rolls. She is 14 years old, but SIL and BIL have no problem with it. I am lucky, my kids don't like everything, but are good eaters and most of the time are willing to try new things.
What is everyone having for christmas dinner? nm
?
What time is dinner again???
I'll bring a bottle of vino!!!

Just kidding, but that menu sounds absolutely FABULOUS. We have an Italian deli right down the street and treat ourselves once a week to lunch. In my opinion, very little can top an authentic Italian deli.

Enjoy that meal for us, too, lol!!!
Have a wonderful dinner...nm

What to make for dinner?

I went to the grocery store yesterday and bought a lot of stuff on sale.  I'm tired of the same old same old.  Here's what's in my fridge:

Ground beef, a small roast, ham butt, split turkey breast, skinless/boneless chicken breasts.  Any ideas?

I had planned to make the turkey breast some day this week with the traditional mashed potatoes, stuffing, etc.  I'm also planning to use the ham to make a traditional dinner with the leftovers being made into ham and bean soup.  I have no idea what to do with the ground beef and chicken.  I'm so tired of the same old thing -- baked chicken or meatloaf.  We had hamburgers yesterday b/c it was so nice outside.

Any new ways to make chicken or ground beef?

Speaking of the dinner...

My son and his best friend, along with their dates went to a quite expensive restaurant before their senior prom in downtown Atlanta. Between the 2 boys, they probably had just enough for dinner, no dessert.

After their meal, the waiter brought out 2 big plates of dessert. Well, the boys kinda panicked...not knowing if the girls had ordered the desserts behind their backs or not, and knowing that they couldn't afford to pay for them.

Long story short, the waiter told the kids that someone in the restaurant had sent over the dessert and picked up their check! My son was so excited, he called me from the restaurant...thinking his dad and I had done this wonderfully generous act. It was tempting to take the credit, but we didn't.

They have no idea who it was but it made their night! I know, not related, but just a nice prom story!

what's for dinner tonight?
If it was left up to me I would just have popcorn, but I have a husband and kids who get hungry every once in a while.  Oh the good old single days when I could have a Pop Tart for dinner and be satisfied!!
Christmas dinner for work

Hope someone can help.  I work for a small office as a medical records clerk/transcriptionist.  We had our Thanksgiving meal last Thursday, as several people won't be there this week.  We only have a small refrigerator that holds soft drinks for patients and a small microwave.  We tried to have a regular meal--vegetables, meat, breads--with the result that the cold things were not really cold and hot things barely warm.  Cold macaroni and cheese--yuk!  The office manager is already talking about how wonderful it was--can't wait for Christmas, etc!  What dishes could I suggest to steer away from those needing any refrigeration or heating for next time?  I'm thinking Crock-Pot dishes or appetizer-type foods.  Thanks for suggestions!

When sitting down to a formal dinner
which way do the dishes get passed.

Clockwise or counter-clockwise around the table?
Fun poll: What's for dinner tonight? sm
I know, I know, it's early but I tend to think about it early. Last night I was in a rush. I had one of those Hormel pork tenderloin rolls out to thaw. You can get them at the store for about 6-7 bucks. Different flavors, lemon and garlic, teriyaki, mesquite, etc. I had the teriyaki one.  I cooked it different this time though. I wrapped it real tight in foil. Then, in one of those throw away foil pans,  I put in 2 packages of hash browns, 2 sticks of butter and seasoned it with Mrs. Dash and covered it real tight with foil, too. Then, I took some left over carrots and some stewed Italian tomatoes and put them in foil and wrapped it real tight. Then, I took the whole shebang and put it on the grill and cooked it all on medium to high with the lid closed, turning the potatoes frequently. It was ready in 45 minutes. We sat down to eat.  There were 3 of us, me, hubby and boy wonder #3. We thought we died and went to heaven. First time in ages the whole meal went in one shot. Gosh, it was so good. Tonight were going to have a turkey breast on the grill. Can't wait......
had dinner with the band a few years ago
A friend of mine works for them and asked if I wanted to go before the concert. Loved it!!! Great band
dinner ideas for summer
It's hot and humid here (close to 90) and I don't want to turn on the oven.  Any ideas for a light dinner summery type of meal?   TGIF!
