No, me laid back- not at all
Very outspoken just as he is quiet so we really just compliment one another. I think he is probably the best person I have ever met, like I said, cannot find enough words to say about him. Hey, my maternal aunt who is up in age said I ought to be glad she didn’t see him first, she would have got him and she also said he was 1 of her favs. I consider myself a very lucky girl. There has been no male in my life, be it my father, uncles, son or ?? that could even come close to him as far as a really good person. I am sitting here pondering about flaws and I cannot think of 1- if I do I will get back to you.
Laid back. Cowboys or Accountants?

They all have flaws, obviously you put up with more or are more laid back than the average woman. LO

My 2 high schoolers started back last Thursday. It is
so hot here (Virginia) they are having to dismiss school early. The high school is putting in an air conditioning as well as a new heating system even as we speak, but the air won't be up and running until next spring. Now if only all the other schools would get air conditioning. Hopefully soon.
Very little maintenance...

All that is required is using the cleaning disk and replacing the water reservoir filter occasionally (every 6 months) and cleaning the the gadget that holds the discs which only requires rinsing it out. No grinds as they are all contained in the disc and you just pop it out when done!

Health Maintenance Resources
You can order on line -shipped to your door, no commitment - it was developed for morbidly obese people pre gastric bypass - to get some pounds off before they could have surgery or to determine if they for sure could not lose weight.  Food is really good and filling.  Check different sites - prices vary.  Best site I have found is in Texas.  I was really appalled at the taste of Nutrisystem - absolutely had to throw things away.
So you do regular maintenance on the computer..sm
Such as check for Windows updates, deleting your cookies and browsing history, scanning for errors, and defragmenting? If you need help with any of this let me know. I can give you instructions on it. I have Windows XP so that is the version I know about. I don't know about other versions. These things really make a difference.
Meant : Do you do regular maintenance not "So"

OH! Sorry for being slow with that! nm

Slow cooker
It has been my experience in the past that slow cookers do not cook a turkey well. It you buy a 12 pound bird, it will only take 2-2½ hours in the oven. You may also cook it over night at 200º for 6-8 hours, then brown it off at 375º. Simple recipe. Clean bird and dry. Salt cavity of bird. Place a mixture of butter, rosemary, sage, salt, and pepper under the skin of the turkey. Lightly coat outside of bird with olive oil or remaining butter mixture. Cover with foil and cook overnight or bake at 375º for 1½ hours, then remove foil and continue cooking until done. Internal temp should reach 150º.
Just take it slow and easy

Don't rush into anything, and don't let him pressure you into moving faster than you are comfortable with. After all, if you do get together, hopefully you will have a lot of happy years ahead of you. There's no need to rush things in the beginning.

I have been married for a long time to the same man (never divorced) but if we had taken more time in the beginning, we probably never would have gotten married. Outside circumstances kind of put us in a "do or die" position.

We had a lot of unhappy years, especially in the beginning. So the one thing I always advise anyone who is contemplating marriage and/or a serious relationship is take your time.

And good luck!

slow starter
Any hints on getting going when you start your shift?  It takes me a good 30 minutes just to begin every day, no matter how I psych myself up to "get at it".  Have been coming to computer a half hour earlier to get set, read emails and fiddle around so when I clock in I'm ready to go, but I still will just sit here staring at nothing, fiddling around, etc., and take forever to get going.  Do you all have special routines that get you going?  One person I know has a special hat he puts on when he goes into his home office.  I have not tried that yet.   Thanx
Slow computer
All of a sudden my computer is running as slow as mollasses.  I used to know what to do but forgot.  Even when I'm typing it halts and takes about 30-40 seconds to continue.  Please help!

Why is this site so slow lately?
I just wondered if anyone else is having a problem even getting into MT Stars.  When I can get it, it is so slow.
Tax refund slow in coming. sm
I e-filed a couple weeks ago with TurboTax and the "where's my refund" tool on the website says there is a delay in processing my refund.  I have no idea what the delay could be, but I am running out of funds quickly since my son's father has decided to start stiffing us on child support.  Is anyone else experiencing this delay?  Has never happened to me before.  Quite frustrating and very depressing since it's class ring time and the list goes on and on.  TIA.
okay, now I get it........slow on the ball I guess

Doing a slow burn here, going for the jugular
i was so involved, thought i had found some people i could trust and started an animal rescue group with. I paid the expenses to start with the understanding that i would be involved as far as being able to go to rescue animals and basically spent time interacting with them. Oh, believe you me before I did this I got this in writing with the person I was starting this with. Since January of this year when this was first started I basically have rescued about 10 cats and that was about 3 weeks ago. I went along with my coperson but she was always the one picking the animals out. I was happy to go but seems like that has suddenly dried up now since she is up and apparently making some money. I made it clear I did not want any money they might make from the sell of the animals, I was only happy to get them out of the places where they would be put down. Well, so much for MS Nice Lady. I have called her twice over the past 3 days, sent her an email asking her to call, called another lady she heavily works with in this rescuing and no answer at all. I have smoke coming out my ears. Just imagine, about 3 months ago this same person asked me to cosign on a vehicle with a person I had met 1 time for them to transport animals up north!! Well, duh, do I look that looney to you. Not only that, but then 2 months ago this same person came to me telling me she had her electricity turned out, forgot to pay her bill and wanted to borrow $500.00. Even though I am what you call a senior citizen (and when I take her behind to court, that might also work against her) I told her no way was 1 month bill that much, had to be more than 1 month and maybe she should ask her mother and/or father for that. No way Jose was I giving any money, for the animals yes, for someone who conviently forgets a bill, nah. Has anyone on here ever put a lien against someone else. This person does not have a job but has a home. I do not know if the home is in her name but I have just printed off several sheets from Craig's List where they are offering the animals for $125-$200 so she should have some money by now. She is incorporated now but when we signed the agreement she was not, just us starting out. I would think with her being incorporated and selling the animals she should also have books to show her income and such. I am going for her jugular and no more Ms Nice Nice. I am ticked. Thank goodness I have saved any and all receipts I have pertaining to all the animal care, food, etc. etc. that I have paid out.

Slow Roasted Cuban Pork recipe

Hi,

Quite a few years back, I had a recipe I can no longer find at home or on the internet, which is where I believe I first found it.

It's for Cuban slow roasted pork with mojo sauce. The recipe's instructions called for putting the roast in the oven on very low heat for at least 24 hours. (I've found a similar one on Epicurious, but would prefer to re-find the one I originally used).

Sound familiar? If so, can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

the rude thing was to ask if he was slow and to compare him to her "sorta retared" (sm)
grandchild - and to call her grandchild "sorta retarded" is rude too! I think maybe she's the one who is slow!!
Then they can get right back on their tires and rafts and float on back to Cuba! nm

But we haven't heard from her since. I miss her too. I hope she's doing okay.
water skiing. Fast dictator or slow dictator?

Slow-Mohs versus regular Mohs
I am a patient, not a doctor, but my understanding is this:

A regular Mohs procedure takes many hours but is finished the same day you start the procedure. The doctor cuts out the visible tumor, then makes either vertical or horizontal slices from what she has removed. Those slices are made into frozen slides (not literally frozen) and analyzed by the doctor while the patient waits in the office. This allows the doctor to "map" the tumor. If a part of a slide doesn't show a clear (tumor-free) margin, the patient is called back in to a little more tissue removed. Again, that tissue is made into frozen slides and the doctor looks for clear margins. The patient will keep being called back in to have more removed until all the slides show clear margins. This can take many hours, but once the margins are clear, the wound is closed and that is the end of it.

Slow-Mohs is when the wound is left open for a day or two (and up to a week) while the slides are analyzed. That is why it is called "slow" (the time you spend in the office on the first day of surgery should be about the same as if you had regular Mohs). The reason it takes so much longer to analyze the slow-Mohs slides is because the doctor uses paraffin-embedded slides instead of frozen slides. Paraffin-embedded slides are of much higher quality than frozen (my doctor said it's the difference between a huge HD TV and an old black and white TV with bunny-ear antennas).

For most of the malignant tumors treated by Mohs, frozen slides (and thus regular Mohs) is sufficient. But there are some types of tumors that have long, finger-like extensions (like roots) that are hard to see on frozen slides. If they are removed with regular Mohs than these roots could be missed and lead to a recurrance of the tumor. So that is when Slow-Mohs is usually used.

Sometimes Slow-Mohs is called Modified Mohs, but I have also heard Modified Mohs refer to a regular Mohs procedure with other variations. So if a doctor says they are going to do Modified Mohs, ask them exactly what they mean by that.

You should also ask if your doctor will be using vertical (bread-loafing) slices, or horizontal slices. I think vertical is the norm, but horizontal is better for tumors with irregular boarders.

Also, sometimes after doing regular Mohs with frozen slides, the doctor will take a final slice for paraffin-embedded slides to be analyzed just in case. This final paraffin-embedded slide isn't the same as Slow-Mohs. In the rare instance that the final slide comes back with a positive margin, the patient will be brought back in for another Mohs procedure, but usually regular Mohs is a one-day affair.

Overall, Mohs and Slow-Mohs are a great alternative to a wide surgical excision that could result in greater (and unnessesary) tissue loss. I think it is widely accepted for skin cancers, but more controvertial in other cancers like sarcomas.

I have a very rare sarcoma called Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) and while most of the literature I read says Mohs is at least equal to or better than wide excision (but with less tissue loss), I have seen 2 sarcoma specialists that are strongly opposed to Mohs for DFSP. However, their reasons are that vertical slices and frozen slides are inadequate for DFSP. However, it doesn't seem like they are aware of the horizontal slicing options and the ability to do paraffin-embedded slides in Slow-Mohs (and doctors don't respond well to any implication that there is something they don't know). So I am trying to arm myself with as much knowledge as possible...and I suggest you do the same if you have one of the more controversial tumors.

Here is a good (technical) article about Mohs and DFSP that describes the different types of Mohs:
"Modified Mohs Micrographic Surgery in the Therapy of
Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans: Analysis of 22 Patients" http://www.annalssurgicaloncology.org/cgi/reprint/11/4/438
Liking my pressure cooker better than the slow cooker.
After umpteen zillion years of cooking, I finally decided to invest in a pressure cooker about 3 weeks ago, and I love it more than the crockpot. I do like the slow cooker for some things... ribs and pulled pork, for instance. I also like making home-made spaghetti sauce, bean or pea soups, and mmmm mmmm apple butter in it. But most meat prepared in the slow cooker is too dry for me. With the pressure cooker, I'm making really moist foods in no time. I made a fantastic stew in the pressure cooker last week. It was done so fast, and the meat was so much more tender than when I've cooked it all day in the slow cooker. I also made the most delicious Manhattan clam chowder in about 15 minutes. Terrific! Both the slow cooker and the pressure cooker now have honored places in my kitchen. I couldn't do without either one.
Wow! That's a high
deductible for such a high premium. If she doesn't go to the dentist very often, I would drop that because that would be a waste of money. I have insurance through State Farm and is around $200 a month with a $2,000 deductible. I rarely go to the doctor and have used my insurance once in the past 4 years but it still goes up every 6 months. If I had my way, I wouldn't even have health insurance but hubby insists I have it. If I were you, I would be checking around. Don't know who your insurance company is but I have State Farm and my hubby has American Family. His is pretty comparable rate wise with mine but I don't think he has a deductible. I get a healthy discount with mine since I don't have health problems. Good luck!
High cholesterol
Join the club.  I, too, have high cholesterol.  I was over 500 last year.  I started Weight Watchers in Jan. of  06 and lost 40# pretty quick.  I am now down to 20# within goal weight and my cholesterol is 160.  I also do oatmeal for breakfast every day, take fish oil pills, garlique, and Cholesterol medication from Dr.  I also have been walking (1-4 miles) at least 4 times a week since starting all of this.  I feel much better.  Last week, though, I had a checkup and I am back up to 358.     I guess you cannot always choose your parents!!  lol  More meds and more exercise.

That's kind of on the high end where I am at. Do
you live in an area with a higher cost of living?

That's awesome you've found someone you are happy with though. I'm still searching! :)
Are you guys high?!

So I've got this thingy set up to "alert" me whenever my "handle" comes up or the name of the company I work for--and it shows this wacked thread!

I'd love to see a woman in the White House as well, but definitely not the one currently running.  There's something about her that just rubs me.  Oh yeah, the fact that she's still married to that dickhead for starters.

I'd vote for Ellen DeGeneres...female, gay (really frost the republicans behinds!)...and most important....A FRIGGIN RIOT!   I'd love to believe that the world's problems could be solved with humor.  It'd be fun to see her give it a shot though.  Jon Stewart would make a great vice president.

If I were president, the White House would have a petting zoo, the rose garden would also have petunias in it, macaroni and cheese would occupy at least 1/4 of the food pyramid.  Camp David would be open to the general public.  All UFO information would be declassified.  Political correctness would be outlawed and greenbud would be legal.  Lastly, public schools would have classes on manners, school uniforms, and corporal punishment...but I guess that goes back to my pervy private fantasies again....

High Fever
Have you tried cool compresses along with the Tylenol? Maybe that'll help. I hope she feels better soon. I have a four year old and it's awful when she's sick. Also, does she have any other symptoms. When my older daughter was young she spiked high fevers a lot and they were always viral infections and you just had to wait it out and give Tylenol or Motrin every six hours to break the fever.

High school - sm
We were both in JROTC and I ended up being his information officer one year.  That was in 1979.  Been together ever since!
Lower it - 21 is too high
1. Three years is not a huge difference.

2. Most kids are drinking earlier than 21 anyway and nobody is enforcing the law when they get caught drinking under age.

3. It was 18 when I was 18 and there was not a high incidence of drunk driving or whatever reason they have for a drinking age.

4. Germany there is no drinking age and they do not have a high rate of drunk drivers (they have one of the lowest rates of any country).

5. If they are not going to lower the drinking age they should then raise the age of joining the military. Someone tell me that it makes sense that they can't drink til their 21, but at 18 years old in the military they are given guns and can use them.

Some kids will be responsible and some kids won't. I know a lot of people who are in their 20s and 30s and older who are very irresponsible when it comes to drinking - btw, I am 48 years old, not 18, 19, or 20 (and just want the age lowered) :-)
The only sure thing about having a High IQ
is that you can score high on an IQ test. My mother had an IQ of 150 and she was a data entry clerk all of her life.
None of my high schools because sm
I don't have a clue where any of them are, haven't gone to a reunion, although this year is 30 years and I STILL won't go!
My life took a very different track from many of them. I was and am the Earth Mother, vegetarian, animal lover, big family gal and they were money-oriented yuppie types. NOTHING in common.

I recently connected with a friend from elementary school. We were not really friends then, but we are now. The other 2 friends I had from elementary school also went on different paths. One married and had a career, and her real full time job was managing the doofus she married AND the kids they had. The other never married, never had children and has been a bartender for 25 years at a couple of bars her brothers own. Again, nothing in common.

My most enduring and treasured friendship is an MT friend I met online in 2001. We have talked nearly daily since, but have never met in person. We will be spending a week together in June, the plans for which dropped into our laps unexpectedly. We had decided we might never meet face to face and that was okay. She is no less dear. We have used a webcam in recent months and connected that way, which was a gas.
High school...
but we didn't ever date until years later, except the prom. I wasn't interested, but he was persistent and I am sure glad now. He sort of just kept showing up in my life every once in awhile until I realized that he was the sweetest man I would ever meet. (He also got better looking with age, which doesn't hurt.)
I am thinking of doing away with my TV and of course the high
cable bill. Has anyone tried it? There is nothing interesting on TV anymore anyway.
When I was in high school............... sm
pregnant girls were not allowed to even come to school. I think they must have had some kind of home school program or something, but most of the unwed pregnancies in our school happened on the Senior Trip, so they were out of school before they knew.

I agree.....school is a very scary place these days. I have 2 kids in school right now and a very good friend who is a teacher at the same school. Oh, the horror stories she can tell....names omitted, of course.
I'm high-strung myself, but your husband needs SM
to let go of his anger. The more people your children have in their lives who love them, the better.

Old hurts must be let go of. He really needs to be the bigger person about this.

I wish you joy in this holiday season.
high of 25, low of 1 tonight, nebraska!
