My doctor said NO WAY
I asked about this for my 15-year-old daughter since it's hyped to be so great. He told me unless she is sexually active and at risk for STDs, he would NOT advise it. He said it is not needed routinely unless the girl has "at risk" behavior and they are not including this in the information about the medicine because that wouldn't be "politically correct." Also, it is not to be given after age 17.

that as long as your periods are staying regular and the way they've always been then you're not "too old" to conceive. As far as the risks go, if you do research you'll see that it's more and more common for women in their 30-40s to have babies without problems. For the Down's Syndrome risk, if you average the # of women having babies at different ages the risks are the same across the board. My OB/GYN gave us this info and we confirmed it by doing research.

It doesn't pay to put it off. Whatever it is may need rest. Hope you don't need surgery. Not at all sure if it's carpal tunnel or what, but that's the doc's job.
Definitely go to the doctor
You can't tell if it's broken without x-raying it, and even if it isn't broken, sometimes injuries to tendons and ligaments can take even longer to heal than a fracture. But first you have to find out exactly what is wrong. Then your doctor can determine how it needs to be treated.

Try alternating the foot you use on the foot pedal. It is hard to get used to at first, but it can be done. It's not good to hold one leg in the same position for such long periods of time.

You could have pancreatitis or some type of hepatitis or a number of other things. You need to go right away. You are like me - I always try to figure it out before I go - but if the pain is that bad, you need to go ASAP!
Just took my son to the doctor and
My son went to a hands-on medical conference for high schoolers this summer. I took him to the dermatologist this morning and we saw a PA that we had never seen before. In the car my son listed all the things the PA did wrong. He never introduced himself, after he gave his plan on what to do he did not ask us to repeat it back to him to make sure we understood exactly what he wanted us to do, and he did not end with "Do you have any questions?". He was almost out the door before I could mention a mole that we wanted him to look at on my son. We then went to the hospital for bloodwork and on check-in the we were asked the doctor's name becuase she couldn't read his signature and I had to say I didn't know. Too Funny!!!
Get a new doctor.
If I were you I would definitely find a new doctor. Going through menopause doesn't mean that all of your problems will be solved. I had my hysterectomy over 7 years ago and it was the best thing I ever could have done for myself. Six months later my doctor did my sister. We both had adenomyosis.
He definitely should see a doctor.
I agree with the above poster. It could be some sort of psychological disorder that is somehow being exacerbated or could be new. He really should get checked out by a doctor to get an idea of what is going on. He may need medication. Good luck!

Earaches are very painful and if her eardrum ruptures she could have hearing loss. You need to get her to the doc and get antibiotics today, not tomorrow. I had them as a child - they are horrendous!!
Maybe she had a doctor's
appointment too and needed a pair undies.....so she took yours. What a shame, 15 years with you..consider yourself lucky she has taken such meaningless things!! You should be ashamed of yourself to react in such a way. It's ONLY a pair of underwear and I am sure they are not 24 carat gold!!
As an MT seeing a doctor
Can anyone offer me some advice? I've had stomach problems ever since I had my gallbladder out. First doctor said I was too young to have anything wrong (was 29 then), it was probably just stress resulting in acid reflux and IBS. But nothing worked. Got 2 doctors telling outright falsehoods because I'm an MT and let's face it folks, we are in the health care field. I finally gave up entirely after about 6 doctors. Actually told one that I was fed up and frustrated and said I work as an MT do you know what that means? He said, yeah it means you know too much about medicine. EXCUSE ME???!!!! Can anyone offer some advice as to how to handle doctors given that the ones I've seen seem to have no respect for our knowledge as MTs? And if anyone is in the Daytona Beach area, can you suggest a PCP?
No, ask your doctor.
It's a proven medical fact that most people on Depo gain weight. It's hormonal. If you didn't that's great, but that doesn't give you the right to judge the people who did. All hormone-altering meds have the potential to make you gain weight, and Depo is one of the worst. It has some great benefits, but bottom line is MANY, MANY people gain weight while on it.
You may want to see a doctor if you
haven't already. I had tinea versicolor many years ago. My experience was that I noticed the pigment of my skin was changing - having the usual color with sort of white spots all over. The doctor told me it is a fungal infection. I never had problems with irritation, burning or itching, just the loss of pigment. He gave me a body wash that I had to use 3 X a week. You apply it to the body and then wait for 20 minutes and then take a shower. It took close to a year to get rid of it. Although I am not a doctor, it doesn't sound like tinea versicolor but more like an allergic reaction to the wire of the bra. I would see a doctor to find out exactly what it is.

Sounds like a schmuck. I hate it when a mean doctor bullies me and makes me cry. Go to free clinic. They don't have time to mess with your head and it will be "just the facts" and they will shove you out the door if nothing is wrong with you.

What doctor does DH need to see?
For quite a while he has been having trouble with his left eye. He says every morning between the 9-10:00, his left eye gets "wavy". If he closes his left eye, he can see perfectly. If he closes his right eye, he can see perfectly, but if he has both open, the left eye is "wavy".
The other day when it happened, he said it was worse. He could barely see at all at of that eye, like someone dropped a cloth in front of his eye.
He saw his cardiologist and the cardiologist said to see his ophthalmologist. He went to the ophthalmologist and the ophthalmologist said to see his cardiologist, that it wasn't an eye problem. He said it could be low blood pressure (he's on Toprol), but DH is always sitting in his truck when this happens, not standing up suddenly or doing anything else that would cause a sudden low blood pressure.
Now, here's the really funny thing: He's allowed to have 2 beers a day. The other day, he had 8(!!!) because he was celebrating not having to pay the IRS for the first time since 2006. The next day, no problem with his eye!
It's really weird and we're both at a loss as to who to see or what to do. Any ideas?

I have a very good friend who is (was) on Coumadin. She had bleeding behind the eye and sometimes laser helps. However, her cardiologist took her off the Coumadin. He told her he would rather she have a stroke than go blind. (Don't mean to scare you, just the facts). I would see the best ophthalmologist I could find. There are even neurologic ophthalmologists and probably other specialties as well. Good luck.

 I spent two years of my MT life typing for ortho doctors and I have never typed a letter like that. I would call the doctor, as the other MT suggested, and see where the conversation takes you! Good luck!
Just went to the doctor, trying to work and
so severe yesterday I could hardly stand. For anyone out there who thinks this is all in your head, believe me I never knew I had it until a rheumatologist tried to run their fingers up my spine when I left the table. The PA tells me they are using ole timey antidepressants to treat this now, not that you have depression but they found it seems to work good for this and also some antiinflammatories. What is bad is you cannot really get a big hug because just a touch on my arm by the office this morning made me recoil. I have 2 antidepressants, if 1 does not work good enough they said to try the other. I was in pure agony last night, even a class A narcotic would not alleviate this pain, goes all the way through from skin to the bone. I hope this gives some relief.
Your doctor says this, but you are the parent
and you are going on the theory that she will not become sexually active nor show up with sexually transmitted diseases up to the age of 17. That is your responsibility, not the physicians to choose or not. There are a lot of girls sexually active way before 17 What makes you think your daughter is different?
Definitely check with an OB doctor
I am 39 now and can not imagine having a baby, my kids are 16 and 14. But if you are in good shape and this is what you want then go for it. By having a healthy lifestyle more people are living longer and many women are having babies in their early 40s.

We were born on the same year, month, day, and minute. We were born in the same hospital, hospital room and we have the same 2 parents. We are not twins and we have no brothers. Explain this.

Well, duh!!!!
The doctor has no idea what is causing the horribly itchy red welts and bumps my husband has. We've established that they aren't caused by bedbugs, but other than that, no clue. So the doc gave him a steroid shot and a prescription for prednisone and told him not to do yard work for a week.
That's great if it helps clear up this episode, but if we can't figure out what is causing it, how can we prevent it from happening again??

You didn't mention where on your back the mole was, but particularly if it was on your upper back near your neck, I would be concerned about the swollen and tender lymph nodes.
Regardless, you need to talk to your doctor. The lymph nodes could even be a completely separate issue, but it is definitely a sign that there is a problem.

Doctor's appointment soon
I have a doctor's appointment in the middle of June. I'm going to try to deal with this until then. I tried looking up anxiety on the internet but they way they describe it didn't seem to fit. I hate asking for another pill to take. I have way too many now. But, if it takes away this feeling, I'll do about anything. Thanks.
I haven't ever met my doctor!
I've had her for 5+ years now and have no clue what she even looks like! No matter where I've lived, I always ask to see the NP, but that's my choice. I personally prefer seeing NPs, as I think they spend a lot more time with the patient and aren't as harried. Plus, she's a fatty and I don't feel so bad about myself when I see her and I'm all nudie-toonie! How bad is that?!
Call your doctor
And keep monitoring your BP. If you have trouble getting through to someone at your doctor's office, call your pharmacist. A lot of times they are more knowledgeable about drug interactions that doctors are.
I'm sure you'll be fine, but you need to check it out.
If this was the case, then the doctor
should have had something like this posted in the office. One would think. I think $100.00 is a little high for a missed appointment anyway. The standard is $25.00, but most offices have it clearly posted if that is the case. Good luck! Give 'em h-e-l-l------!!!!!!
I am glad you are going to the doctor

My doctor referred me to
a behaviorist type psychologist who offered biofeedback training. It was great for me. I had no idea what my muscles were doing to me.
After my trying day this is just what the doctor ordered! SM

Is this a new problem or has it been ongoing? If he is constantly tearing into things and is uncontrollable I would definitely call the pediatrician immediately and tell them you are at your wits end. I too used to work in a daycare and I am so thankful that I have been able to get a job at home and get my daughter out of daycare (my older 2 are already in school). I remember calling my pediatrician one night in tears telling them I had it with my middle child, (he was 6 at the time but he had always been this way) he was so mean and hurtful and angry. The pediatrician called me back and we got my son in the next day. We then put him in therapy and started him on ADHD medication. He got dramatically better and he only stayed on the medication for 1 year. He is 8 now and no longer on the meds. He still has his moments but it is so much better.
As for homeschooling I don't know how you do it and I give you a lot of credit. (You definitely have a full-time job just being a mom as well as homeschooling and working at night, you must be exhausted.) But if you are really struggling with it think about why you are opposed to public schooling. Is it the area you are in? Is it a decent school district? If you only want to homeschool so that your kids can be with you then I would definitely think long and hard about what is best for your kids and family, remember your sanity should be the #1 priority. If mom is not happy, no one is happy.

I actually just bought a Rug Doctor
from their web site. It is the best thing ever! It does a great job on the carpets and furniture. I can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can try it in my minivan. We have owned the store brand ones like Bissel and Dirt Devel, but they just don't do nearly as good of a job as the Rug Doctor. Ours came with huge supply of different cleaning fluids too. I love the thing!

Has he been your regular doc for a long time? I know insurance companies will ask for medical records but if you have only been to this guy once or twice, you probably have another office whose records they can use.
Frustrated with eye doctor!
I'm so.... grrrrrr.... don't have a word for it. I have been waiting for an appointment with my eye doctor for weeks. The office was booked solid, but I thought I had a lucky break yesterday when they called saying they had a cancellation, and I could come in today. Great! My glasses and contacts are way too old, and I really need new prescriptions. I was so happy to speed up the process... I thought.
I went to the office and arrived 5 minutes early. Completed all the paperwork, etc., sat down and waited and waited and waited. The waiting room was packed. One woman sitting next to me made a phone call on her cell, and I overheard her saying that she was going to find another eye care provider because of these waits. This was only my second time at this office, so I really don't know if this is the usual situation. But I thought I'll just see how it all plays out. One full hour after my scheduled appointment, I still hadn't been called in. I went to the desk and asked if I'd be seen soon. I was given no explanation, but was told that the doctor would be calling me "soon". I know a brush off when I hear one! I waited another 20 minutes, and this time I went to the receptionist and explained as calmy as I could that I had waited 1 hour and 20 minutes, and I should be back at work by now, yet I still haven't gotten in to see the doctor. I told her I was about to walk out, and you know it... she told me that they bill $50 for canceled appointments. My jaw dropped, and I said "WHAT! ARE YOU CRAZY?? I WAS HERE ON TIME." Several other people in the waiting room made sounds of assent, I heard one or two people say, "Me, too!"
Just then, the doctor came out and called my name. I follow him back, and I was definitely voicing my displeasure. He apologized and then explained he was the intern and would be doing the preliminary examination. SIGH. We go through all the history taking, basic exam, measurements, etc. Then he left and said the doc will be coming soon. Ten minutes go by. I'm fuming again. The intern came back and said he was sorry, but the doctor is "behind schedule", and moved me to yet another waiting area just outside the doctor's exam room.
I waited another 15 minutes to see the eye doctor, and guess what. He repeated all of the exam that the intern had just done. Now, I'm glad that the doctor was being thorough and rechecked all the intern's notes. However, I can't help but feel that I basically waited so long because the intern had gotten behind in the schedule, and I ended up being there for him to practice on.
Don't worry! I said all of this to the doctor. At the end of the appointment, he walked with me to the receptionist and told her to waive the co-pay, and he also made sure that I was scheduled for the first appointment of the day for my followup when my new contacts are in.
It pays to be a squeaky wheel, I suppose. But, since I had blurred vision for a while after having my pupils dilated, I couldn't work for quite some time after I got home. I'll be up late tonight working to catch up on lines.
Grrrr, grrrrr, and double grrrrrr.
i think the doctor has to have noticed.
and i would certainly switch care providers, because in my opinion, his priorities cannot be right if this gets by him.

Please learn to speak English. If you do speak English - stop mumbling and/or slow down, and while you're at it, tell those people in the ER to pipe down.
It might be that fthe doctor is an ESL from
another country than the patient and he is as puzzled as you are.
How's that?
Have you tried calling your doctor and
explaining the situation. Maybe he will write you a prescription and then just get it filled WITHOUT using your insurance.
Why not call your doctor and see if
he will give you a 3-month RX and then just get it filled without putting it on your insurance. You can go to any pharmacy, does not have to be your normal one.
I have a wonderful doctor, but - (sm)
I think it's hard for her (or any doctor) to practice medicine the way they'd really like, because they're required to see SO MANY people per day! Their usual appointments are only like 10 min. or so. I think it's hard to focus on the patient when you're either looking at the PC monitor (EMR), or your watch, and not the patient. Sometimes I think I could be sitting on the exam table with a fresh below-the-knee amputation injury, and on a busy day, she might not notice.

doctor visits
Do you find that you question your doctor for every little thing? I do and my poor doc gets very frustrated with me.
I recently took my 17-year-old for his sports physical. Every year, we have been in and out, no problem. This year, he says son needs an EKG, that it is required for sports physicals now. (I know that's not true). He says he needs a meningitis vaccine to get into college (don't know about that one).
At my last visit, out of the blue he said I needed a sleep study because I looked tired. Of course, I'm tired. Working all the time, going through menopause, kids to raise, husband who kicks all night long in bed. I told him I would not have a sleep study and he got mad.
I had a friend tell me once that the way the docs at this certain practice (there are about 300 docs in this practice) get their raises is dependent upon how many of their patients actually follow through and get tests done that are ordered (the practice is associated with the hospital). Has anyone else heard of this? Since then I doubt everything the poor guy says.
DOCTOR VISIT
Where is one you will not believe: My sister has emphysema. She went to a pulmonary specialist. He sent her for a bunch of tests. On her next visit to him, he tells her she has 1-2 years to live or less. She started crying. He said "Are you crying?" She just looked at him. He said "Why are you crying?"
Well, you can imagine how upset we have been over the last 3 months. It was hard for me to even talk to her, as we cried the whole time. I would try to comfort her, but I needed comforting too, as she is the only relative I have left other than my immediate family.
She called me last night and said "I AM NOT DYING." It seems the tests were all mixed up from the hospital where she had them done. I told her we should sue them for all they have put us through. I cannot believe they did this. You just have no ideal what we have been through. You can imagine what my sister and her husband have been through. I am so glad she called me immediately and told me.
