Turbo tax

If you get the Turbo Tax with the schedule C it will take you through everything.  Basically supplies, equipment, mileage, computer programs,  reference books - sources, internet if needed for work, phone.  Don't know if you are an IC or employee so home office may and may not work for you.

Get Turbo Tax

If this is your first year it might pay to have a CPA or tax accountant do your taxes for the first year and then from there on out use Turbo Tax.  All the forms are in there to do a Schedule C which is what you will need to do.  Turbo Tax takes you throught it step by step for home office, utliites, supplied, etc.   Or else can go onto IRS internet page and they have all the forms you would need.  But again, first year if it costs $100 to get some advice from a CPA or tax accountant it is well worth it.  I did it for 3 years and then past 15 have done my own with Turbo Tax.

Turbo Tax
Has anyone used Turbo Tax if  you are an IC?  If so, is it easy?  I'm sick of paying my account a ton of money to do my taxes when it takes them about 15 minutes to plug info into the computer and spit the forms back out.  Seems like it could be something I could do myself.
Used to Use Turbo Tax
When I became an IC I didn't trust myself to know all the deductions that I could take for my home office. My accountant is a friend's husband who charges $100 for our tax returns so to me it's worth it. He saved me so much money the first year, I was impressed. LOL
Turbo Tax vs Tax Cut
I have used Turbo Tax every year but one. The one year we used a tax accountant was when my husband drove truck over-the-road and weren't sure about all the tax deductions. He charged us an arm and a leg, and we did all the work for it. The only year we had to pay in too. We then went back to Turbo Tax. I have heard another MT say last year that she got a bigger tax deduction from using Tax Cut last year, and she compared it with Turbo Tax. I am going to do the same thing - since Tax Cut sent a free CD to us as a promo thing. Worth doing to see which program does it better. Turbo Tax is extremely user friendly. Even my husband, who is not terribly computer literate, was able to hop and do his tax information for his business. Very slick and easy. It totally walks you through depreciation, 401k stuff, extra properties, etc. Very easy!
I think Turbo Tax does
If you have last year's forms to go by I would try it myself.  But that is me.  If you aren't cheating or doing something wrong, why fear doing it yourself.
Turbo Tax
I'm getting ready to do my taxes and this year will be the first time usnig Turbo Tax.  I'm an IC, single.  Can anyone tell me roughly how long it will take who has used Turbo Tax?  Thanks.
I tried Turbo Tax 2 years ago and STILL
am in awe at how totally cool it is, how EASY it is, even to file itemized and deductions, as well as do your state taxes as well. I used to use an accountant every year, paid him $400 to $500 just to use probably the same software, after having spent weeks compiling all the #s myself anyway. I was really afraid, but tried Turbo Tax and would NEVER switch. I think this year, though, I am going to buy it online rather than CD. It keeps your history from year to year - you will just be shocked when you see how efficient it is. And you can file using the e-form, and get your $$ back in like 10 days. Also, might I add, I never ever got $$ back in over 14 years until I used Turbo Tax - then got back $1K or so. I nearly fainted - 2 years in a row, and it was done correctly.
Agree with Turbo Tax (sm)
I started using Turbo Tax 3 years ago. All you do is answer normal questions and they know where to put them on the forms. Usually the first time you buy the software you get rebates so it is pretty cheap. Then you get your refund back in a week or two. They even tell you when you can expect to have it direct deposited in your account.

I highly recommend it. It is easy, you'll do your taxes that way forever more, and you don't have to pay some middleman hundreds to do your taxes or a huge percentage of your refund to get it back quick.
I've only used Turbo Tax
But I've been using it for many years and I love it.  Very easy to use, even for IC stuff.
Turbo Tax, quarterlies
You can subscribe to Turbo Tax's quarterly program.  Calculates tax for you, gives e-mail reminders for due dates - it's a good way to help keep on top of taxes.
Get Turbo Tax, it has a whole section for this and asks you if you have this, this, that...sm
By using this I found 2 deductions I had no idea I could take.
I used Turbo Tax last year for the first time sm
last year and loved it! Only had the tuition credit, though. Everything else was just plain old taxes. I think I'll have to go back to the accountant this year, though, because now we have a rental house to claim for 2006 and I'm not sure how to do those. We have had them before and all that depreciation, etc, would confuse me. Also, I'm an IC now so I guess our taxes will be a mess in the next year since I've only been an IC for about a month now. That won't show up until 2007 taxes are due.
I've also used Turbo Tax for yrs without any difficulty...nm

I use Turbo Tax Small Business - sm

It will walk you through everything and prepare a schedule C for you as well.  I would recommend this if you are going to prepare your own taxes.

Turbo Tax Home Business Edition! Tax Q's!!
OK, I know you probably are sick of taxes, but here I am just getting started, as usual. I always owe so much $$ that it makes me sick, and so I procrasinate. At any rate, I had used Turbo Tax Home Business for several years and it was GREAT until last year. Then they changed the program and it tanked for me, but I have high hopes that maybe this year its better and improved???  My problem is that I work for a company - that big one who shall remain nameless, and am an employee, but I always take the home office deduction -- have done so for 20 years, as my home is taken over by my office. At any rate, last year on Turbo Tax Home Business you could NOT enter your rent or mortgage or any utilities off of a W2 form - you had to be an IC. I also am a per diem IC, so I have a few hundred dollars in W9 forms.  But Turbo Tax last year would NOT let me use this home office deduction - it couldn't recognize it from a technical aspect with the W2 form. I'm just about to blow $100+ on the online version, and thought maybe I'd ask here first. Has anybody used Home Business edition TT this year? Is it great like it used to be? Any snags? I know I was not alone last year with this business office deduction as April 14th this board and all other MT boards were jammed up with hundreds of us trying to figure out how to manually override this snag!  With no luck.... Anybody have any experiences with TT this year? Those are my only deductions, by the way - just home office and utilities, no other itemizations.  So it should be easy.... LOL! LOL!
Turbo Tax on the internet offers all this and no software has to be bought
I have used it for years and you save your whole return at the Turbo Tax site. I love it.
Flash-type.....
Does Flash-type Expander work with Word Perfect does anyone know?  Thanks for the info.   TLC
Really? Did you get Flash Type too?
I'm doing something wrong but the Flash Type added two of each entry to my report and the speller wouldn't even open for me. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it wouldn't work because it said a version was already installed. Good thing it was free or I'd be pretty ticked. I was thinking about getting Instant Text anyhow when I got this software prize so I'll probably go that route as planned. Even if I got the bugs all worked out, I didn't see any way to import my Auto Correct entries.
flash forward
Those were the days!  My production dropped significantly when i had to switch from flash forward to shorthand.  But at least I have a job!
News flash everybody!! - sm
After a nasty argument with ex H over his lack of interest in our daughter for the past 15 years, he informs me that I won't have a job in 3 years due to voice recognition taking over.  Yikes, where do I turn now?  And, since she will be 18 then, he is done financially.  Well, jeeze, since he hasn't been there emotionally for the past 15 years, he might as well stop paying his lousy $150/month.  I'm ticked off and laughing at the same time.  Just venting over the fact that ex idiot is taking pleasure in the thought that he thinks he knows something I don't know.    Obviously he has been doing some reasearch or how would he even know what voice recognition is?  Please excuse my very angry rant! I'm going to take a deep breath and try to forget the whole ugly conversation.
News flash....
Why listen to the rantings of a man who thinks his own daughter is only worth $37.50 a week?

He may or may not research, but there is enough talk about Voice Recognition on TV and radio talk shows that he may have heard it mentioned there.

Please don't let his pettiness ruin your peace of mind.
Flash drive to
copy Word to the other computer. Don't know about the other question!
flash drive
get one, they are worth it. i just got one at target for 14.99. i have seen them as low as 9.99. i type at home for a cardiology practice. i upload all my work onto the flash drive, bring it into their office, download it to their computer. when the doc makes changes on his dictation, they just bring my work up on their computer and do their thing. saves them from calling me, me making the changes, printing it, getting in the car and bringing it to them. it is wonderful. try to get one with a key ring on it, cuz they are just so small, you can lose them easily. once they go under the seat of the car, you never see them again. lol
Flash drive
I have a couple flash drives and drop one off with the completed work and pick up an empty one when I pick up work. Get a flash drive and copy the files on it and give that to them too...good luck!
who exactly is SS? And what is Flash type?
?  and if SS has supporters and this board is not a supporter of her, why are they here anyways?
Flash Type anyone?
Does anyone here use this? I downloaded the free trial and emailed the webmaster but haven't heard anything yet. Do you have to remember all of your shorts with this, or does a screen pull suggestions up? So far, I haven't seen this, that's why I am asking. If not this expander, which one? Please, I already know about IT and I do NOT want to purchase it at this point.  For the $ and the learning curve, I don't have the time right now. What Expanders are easy to use, and hit the ground running that don't cost a lot? Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

There are vaccinations for feline leukemia and rabies. A responsible cat owner keeps their pet updated on these shots.
Cats going outside.
I think everyone is entitled to their stance on this issue, it is a hard call to make, whether indoor/outdoor or always indoor, and I believe it is up to each individual to make that choice. I make the choice to have indoor/outdoor cats as I think that mine are most happy that way. There are ways that you can get your cats outdoors that are safe, many fencing systems that with some trial and error work. I know a lady who made wire tunnels that ran the perimeter of her yard that ended up in the woods attached to another enclosure she hade a handy man make for her, she said it was very inexpensive to make and it was really neat. I saw pictures of it. I plan to do something similar when I own property. Whatever you decide, do what you think is best for you, and let others do what they think is best for them. I have lost 1 cat to outside predators and it was wrenching, could not get out of bed for a week, but I still continue to let mine out to this day because that is what I feel makes them the happiest. I say lets choose to disagree or agree on this subject. All for the animals!!!
Cats/Dog
Cats: Leroy Brown, baddest cat in the whole darn town (full name), also Teddy. Pug, Willie, and Chiauwawa Amigo...Turtle Timmy, found out really Timithia, and 7 year old 12 inch long gold fish named Goldie (what else)...this as fun...
cats
Cats will go off and die alone, my vet told me that. Also, in regard to keeping a cat indoors vs letting it out, we have coyotes and rabies in our states and they advised everyone to keep their cats indoors, even our indoor cats have to get rabies shots. I have a siamese who I let out with me in the garden but bring her in with me and she is never out at night. I got her from the ASPCA, and it took her a while to get used to being indoor cat, but my vet told me he has too many cats who suffer from fights, death by coyote or rabid bites.
Two Cats
Roscoe - 10
Raquel - 15

Well, as follows (all cats)...

The Four Bumpas Brothers (so called because they love each other so much and are alway bumping heads together) who are Big, Baby Dogfood, Baby and Smokey Bumpas. Mr. Atticus Pinkas, because when we got him he lived in the attic for weeks and always comes down with pink insulation on him. Mr. French (he just looks like he would be French with his moustache). Dead-eye Lil, who obviously has one bad eye, her babies Paper and Plastic (they were born last week in a brown paper grocery sack) Sherbie, who is an orange barn cat. Old Dogfood, who came with the place we bought 10 years ago and is also a barn cat. All of these are outside cats, except Mr. Pinkas, who fears the outside world! The others were all drop offs and strays. Living in the country we get a lot of these!

Flash Count problem
I am in the process of installing this but it is asking me to install disk #2 or click browse to select a path? Can someone help? I have closed all other programs and even rebooted by computer. Thanks in advance!
Flash Count question
What's the difference between the Extended Word Count and the Regular Word Count?
What do you think of the MTStars Flash Count?

Any pros/cons that you have found? Have you compared it to any other line count programs, i.e., MPCount?  If so, how does is compare?

Thanks so much.

Please help with MTStars Flash Count

I currently use MP Count and count by gross line for my own local account. I downloaded and tried MTStars Flash Count and I am getting a huge discrepancy in line counts, when choosing the "line" count feature. For example, my MP Count counts a report at 99 lines and by hand counting I get 99 - counting any text on a line as a line that should be counted and each page break and/or page as a line as well (It is stated on my invoices that each page is counted as a line as well). I want my client to be able to hand count lines if they would like to verify counts if they desire.

Anyway, in MTStars Flash Count, I chose "Line" and "Extended Word Count" and got 32 lines. When I chose "Line" and "Regular Word Count" I got 120 lines. Is this program able to actually count gross lines or am I just doing something wrong???

TIA.

Sure wish you lived close to me. I'd take the dog in a flash (sm)

We lost our lab/retriever 2 years ago from root nerve tumor and still miss him. I think it's time we get another one so we can stop mourning our babe.

Please DON"T take him to an SPCA or any shelter like them. I, and many others, have had horrific experiences with our local shelters. It breaks my heart to see all those animals without homes and wish I could bring them all home but, unfortunately, cannot...and I will not adopt a dog from their shelters, either, due to their "higher than thou" attitude. Take it from one who knows, they are only interested in the money they receive from tugging at people's heartstrings, not the animals themselves. They came on our property when we weren't home and stole two irish setters that were left from a litter that were promised to someone with a very good reputation, I might add, and then told that person they had to euthanize the pups because they were sick. They were NOT sick. They had all their shots and wormed, etc., and definitely not sick. The worse part was that they had my 14-yo son SIGN a paper stating they had PERMISSION to take them. I really could have caused trouble for them but didn't have the money to pursue it (lawyer fees).   Two weeks later, their picture was in the newspaper up for adoption!

These worker should work twice as hard trying to find homes for them instead of stealing other peoples dogs and then asking for money every other week.

We have always adopted from people who are moving out of area, are elderly and can no longer take care of their pets, from friends, etc.

Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now. but that's my 2 cents.

FLASH word expander.

Is Flash word Expander a good one to use?  I'm just trying to get my production up, so any comments would be great.

Thanks tonz!

Flash Count Question... sm

Hi - Could any of you tell me how to get the Flash Count to put the amount on the invoice as the exact amount and not round it off to the next dollar?

II want to submit my first invoice with amount correct on the invoice and not rounded to the next dollar.  It shows correctly on configuration screen but final invoice has round off value.  The final total is correct and not rounded off.

TIA!

I used a flash drive to move
all mine a few months ago when I got a new computer. They're only like $15 and worked perfectly.
USB flash drive inquiry....sm

Would someone enlighten me?  My teenager came home with a printout for a school project and the teacher wants the projects turned in one one of these keychain things.  I have no idea how to do this and if I need to buy anything extra for my PC.   How does this work?  Do you just plug it into your PC and are able to save data right onto it or are special programs needed?  The more I searched on the internet the more I couldn't figure it out.   I've already e-mailed the teacher asking that she be allowed to bring the project in on CD as we're pros at that one and I really don't want to spend a dime for some goofy teacher's request...but just in case.....   Thank you

How can you find out where the flash drive is....sm
is there a way to know if my PC has this without buying one of the sticks and trying it? Thank you!
Flash Forward SNAFU

Working in WP 5.1 for DOS.  System is set up to automatically install Flash Forward when I boot up.  As the Flash Forward bar is running, it stops and gives me a pretty  blue flashing prompt saying "Attempt to add duplicate Abbreviation: blah, blah, blah.  Has anyone experienced this?  How do I get out of it?  I assume there must be some way to search for and delete the duplicate abbreviation, but beats me all to you-know-what.    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MTStars Flash Count
Free and it works :)
Flash Drive Pain
I plug the flash drive in my computer.  I select my Start Stop pedal.  The list comes up.  Is there a "hidden" list in another file, perhaps, where the doctor says all these patients have already been dictated?  Now that I've listened to all three flash drives, they are telling me all the patients are on one of them that I had already typed.  Is this possible???  Thanks.  Pardon my stupidity, I am a tape person, if you can still believe that.
