Anyone ever get a pill stuck in their throat?

Posted By: wimt on 2006-06-09

I took an ibuprofen capsule on Wednesday morning (for a sore throat I'd had for a week, rapid strep neg).  The first one went down but the other one seemed to stick. It's still there and I just can't get it to go. It's not really down in the throat...it seems to be higher than that. It's making my throat hurt down to the collarbone and up to the ears. I can get it to move around some, but it just won't go down. I don't know whether I should call me regular doctor, go to urgent care, just wait for it to go down or what?

Has anyone else had this sore throat/tickly throat/cough

It started with a mild sore throat, then went to a REALLY BAD sore throat, tickly throat so I coughed and couldn't sleep, started getting a runny nose, then sinuses stuffy/sinus headache, sore throat got worse - was starting to think it was strep.  Yesterday was the worst; felt like crap.  Last night - started to feel better!  Finally last night I was able to SLEEP.  Today I have felt SO much better.  Not back to normal, but at least I was able to drink a cup of coffee.  Every other day I have poured myself a cup and then it just sat on my desk all day.  My throat is MUCH better and althought I am getting twinges of pain in it from time to time, it's not constant like it has been the last several days.  I don't like this, whatever it is!

I would think it was strep except DD had it too and she got over it.  She said her teacher had it and the teacher said her doctor told her it's a viral thing.

Take a pill.
I don't have a problem with someone being Indian, I do have a problem working for a company based out the U.S. Why don't YOU apply for the job if you're so concerned?
There is a pill you can get at the vet for tapeworms

Also Advantage for the fleas, but the Advantage is probably less expensive on E-Bay.

ok. But VR it is not a magic pill
I've been researching the threats to us by VR. I have found that even with Escription, you need the doctor's cooperation. Their claim that the doctor doesn't need to change his dictating habits is not supportable in the real world. Also, is anyone aware that the software company that provides VR is raking 2 or 3 cents a line off the top just for the privilege of you being able to buy their prohibitively expensive software?
Take a chill pill
they are only testing it right now in one city in Texas...

That should give you time to check out their competition :)

so you're a cut throat
oh please.. spare me... pound what pavement?  Some of us come by accounts because the doctor knows we are reliable or by word of mouth.  It happens; welcome to the world of MT and NOT working for nationals.  So NO to nationals!  LOL
Here take a pill, was just posting an fyi
I did nothing to offend you today. It was not for or against the conversation or directed at you (whoever you are).
OK.. short and sweet... TAKE A PILL !! nm

Everybody cramming that CHRISTmas down your throat is as SM
annoying to me as anything. We all know what Christmas is and why it's celebrated without getting smacked in the side of the head with it. You don't look any better than the people who get mad over "Merry Christmas" by doing that stuff.
If a pill causes an abrasion while going down, it can fell like it is still there. nm

This doc took a silly pill today!
I am doing a string of ER reports from a doc who must have taken a silly pill!  He is drawing out certain words at a slow pace, then speaking as fast as he can, and now he just made the silliest gutteral noise for about 30 seconds OMG!   silliness
Not to be an alarmist, but did you know they can spread down her throat and into her lungs? You know
how we all here of the weird few who almost die from chickenpox? That's my family.  We have horrible illnesses when we've had chickenpox. Especially once in the oral cavity, I would NOT mess with it and I'd get my kids to the doctor immediately.  I barely remember it, but my airway was compromised, etc, and I ended up in the hospital.  Not to mention how much those sores hurt.  You need to give him/her some viscous Lidocaine or something from the doctor. Please go for medical help!
I know! And did you see the way she jumped down my throat assuming that I was talking about HER!
Talk about soapbox. But I do agree with you
pill cam - a tiny camera is swallowed NM

Food/medicine caught in throat
This very thing happened to me while eating pizza one day - I ended up in the ER because I could not get it out or to go down.  The ER doc ordered a chest x-ray (do not know why) and then sent me home with some Prilosec saying that I had esophagitis.  It was a rainy day - two dogs chased my car home and I was afraid to get out - plus I had my sister's four children that week, besides my own two.  I took a Prilosec and then had to have my husband rush to the pharmacy for some Benadryl - I was allergic to the dye - then, and I don't recommend this, I got a long-handled teaspoon - bent it and stuck it down my throat - retrieving the pizza dough.  I still had esophagitis because my throat was now inflamed from the pizza and the spoon handle - I put the chewed up dough in a ziploc and returned it to the ER for an explanation - of course they thought I was crazy - but you do what you have to do.  I have found that many doctors are either incompetent or on drugs (cocaine, meth, and others that they either sniff or smoke).  That is why there is such a high malpractice rate (but that's another story).  In fact, I see a doctor now who is a drug-abuser - but he prescribes what me or my family needs when we go to see him and we get well - but boy is he high - nice, though.  That's my take on the ibuprofen in your throat.
Have you had a sore throat lately? Don't call me crazy, but....

My legs from the calves down, and especially my ankles, have been swollen

since about the first part of February.  I walk around like a "weeble-wobble" doll.

And I thought, gosh, am I too fat?!, eating too much salt?!

Why don't they go down overnight or when I prop them up?

Well, finally I found out that I probably have Hoen-Schoenlein (or something like that) purpura.

They say it recurs.  It usually is in kids, but can happen in adults.

IT HAPPENS AFTER A SORE THROAT.  It is in the autoimmune family.  Sometimes they will give you steroids for it -- but mostly you have to just ride it out.

They really don't know what causes it - but like I said they do suspect it comes in correlation with a sore throat.......and I have had that horrible flu that hit in Feb and I have had recurrence of the flu/sore throat about every 6 wks (as do a lot of  the folks I know).

They say the purpura/swollen legs and ankles can last for 6-8 wks or longer.

So, if you have really funky swollen legs and don't have luck with them going down after leaving off salt, drinking plenty of water, and not drinking caffeinated drinks -- it may be HENOCH-SCHONLEIN purpura.

What is HSP?

Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP or anaphylactoid purpura) is a form of blood vessel inflammation or vasculitis. There are many different conditions that feature vasculitis. Each of the forms of vasculitis tends to involve certain characteristic blood vessels. HSP affects the small arterial vessels called capillaries in the skin and frequently the kidneys. HSP results in skin rash (most prominent over the buttocks and behind the lower extremities associated with joint inflammation (arthritis) and sometimes cramping pain in the abdomen.

What causes HSP?

HSP occurs most often in the spring and frequently follows an infection of the throat or breathing passages. HSP seems to represent an unusual reaction of the body's immune system that is in response to this infection (either bacteria or virus). Aside from infection, drugs can also trigger the condition. HSP occurs most commonly in children, but persons of all age groups can be affected.

What are symptoms of HSP?

Classically, HSP causes skin rash, pain in the abdomen, and joint inflammation (arthritis). Not all features need be present for the diagnosis. The rash of skin lesions appears in gravity-dependent areas, such as the legs. The joints most frequently affected with pain and swelling are the ankles and the knees. Patients with HSP can develop fever. Inflammation of the blood vessels in the kidneys can cause blood and/or protein in the urine. Serious kidney complications are infrequent, but can occur. Sometimes a biopsy of skin and/or kidney is used in assisting the diagnosis, which is typically made based on the clinical findings.

Symptoms usually last approximately a month. Recurrences are not frequent, but do occur.

Not legally. In my state they can't give any meds, can hand the pill

bottle to the patient, but can't actually give them meds.

Maybe you are thinking of CRNA?

ENT=Ears, nose and throat. HEENT=Head, eyes,

Well I have a chronically stuffed up head, irritated throat and headache and I am getting sick of
it. Dont know if it is allergies or sinuses. I dont want to be taking antibiotics because mostly they dont help but I wish I knew what to use to help this. It gets old and tiresome. My throat feels sore and hurts. I always sound like I have a cold and I dont.
Do you all type when you are sick? I woke up this morning with a sore throat and a stiff achy

neck and my body was kind of stiff all over, but I ignored it, got the kids off to school, and went about my usual routine of having my morning coffee and reading the paper.  I don't start work until noon every day.  As the morning wore on, my body got achier and achier and I started having chills and basically had to huddle under three blankets so I would quit shivering.  I took my temperature and it was 102.3 and I'm wonder if I have strep throat or something.  I tend to pick that up about once a year and amy pretty familiar with the symptoms.

I couldn't bare the thought of calling sick especially because I work at home and I always think it's kind of lame to call in sick when you don't physically have to go much farther then down the stairs.  I always feel extremely guilty whenever I have called in for illness in the past.  Do you guys feel that way?  Like we're somehow not entitled to take sick days because we already working from home.  I mean, I have them accrued and I am truly sick, why should I feel bad about taking one when I actually need it?

Anyway, I took a handful of Motrin and the aching has eased up and I'm sweating like a pig so the fever broke for now, and now I just feel really tired and would love to lay down and take a nap, but just feel like I shouldn't and dread the idea of calling my boss.

Oh well, guess I'll suffer through like I always do.  Every once in a while working at home doesn't feel quite fair.

Someone help me, I am stuck in
a new resident hell. This is my fifth chart in a row from the same lady and not one chart has been under 35 minutes or more than 100 lines. They are ER charts. It would not be so bad if she spoke a little faster but she spells out e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g and tells me where to put every comma, period and paragraph.
Maybe not stuck

Raquel, you can borrow up to $30,000 per year as an undergraduate to get through college; I know that you could get through in 3 if you aren't working another job. If you go into an area with a real shortage of teachers (usually math, science) then you might be able to get some assistance with paying your loans back.

Just thought I'd throw that out in case you start feeling locked in.  There are actually a lot of 2-year degrees that you can get that pay more than teaching with a 4-year degree.

So who gets stuck with that $200,000
every time there is a complaint about a HIPAA violation?

Does have HIPAA have teeth or not?

How did you do it? I'm stuck..
I've tried all of the above and then some, have AVG free, and still can't get rid of this virus.  HELP PLEASE!!
At least we have stuck to our names
and people know who we are unlike most posters on this board who change their name on every single post! I guess they like to be easily forgotten.

Anyone else still stuck with dialup?

Hello MTs

Is anyone else out there still stuck with dialup?  I am getting so frustrated with the long loading times.  I live in a rural area, and I cannot get DSL or cable.  Anyone have any other alternatives to slow internet?

Thanks.

Lynn

I usually get stuck on the easy ones....lol
For some reason, I get stuck on random words that I type over and over on a daily basis. I'll type the word, and even though it may be correct, for some reason it doesn't look right to me. I'll have to stop and study it for a minute before going on. LOL It's then that I know I need to take a break!
Stuck at 600-800 lines a day.

I am not a fast typer.  I usually get 600 to 800 lines a day, but I need to double that to pay the bills.  Not sure what my problem is.  I have Expanders and add to them everyday.  I do not have the same doctors all day so maybe that is the problem.  Any thoughts or tips would be very appreciated.  Thanks

and most of them have cellphones stuck in their ears. nm

He dd NOT give them preference. THEY are stuck TOO
My cousin and 3 of her friends are stuck there. If he gave preferential treatment. THEY WOULD BE HOME instead of US worrying about them and not hearing ANYTHING from them.

By the way. They also called ahead before they left here Friday and asked their hotel if it was safe or should they cancel and rebook later. They were told to come on. They would be safe, this was nothing to worry about.

I have read that OTHER tourists were told the same thing when THEY called ahead before the hurricane to see if they should cancel and reschedule.

Get off your high horse and DONT comment on things you know NOTHING ABOUT!
I'm emotionally and financially stuck

I'm wanting to buy a house. I have 3 kids, 1, 2, and 16. I live with my Not-So-Darling-BF, 2 youngest are his. I have a purchase offer on this house and can get financing. The payment is 200 more than I wanted to spend. House is 5 years old, in town, right by my 16 y/o school. I have CC debt (about 9500), a student loan, a couple other small (less than 1000 bills).

I posted my dilemna on MSN Money message board. They all think I should rent, pay off debt, get a roommate, that I should build my emergency fund, save for the house, blah, blah.

Obviously I'm an MT, make 42k a year with 3 parttime MT jobs, one going full-time hopefully in the next year, and child support from 16 y/o which I will lose if she does not continue school after graduating.

I may have a renter, my brother, who would be good for about $350 a month, incl. heat, etc.

I feel so emotionally drained. My "BF" can be prone to violence, never hurting me or kids, but breaking the "house", he thinks he is "Mr. Wonderful" and always has that attitude...I could go on..I wanted to leave at 3 months of knowing him but got pregnant...to make a long story short...and I stayed "cause of the kids."

I'm not sure why I'm posting but I feel my next step is the psych ward. Financially I guess I can't leave and emotionally I can't stay as I'm going nuts.

I need advice or words of encouragment or something, anything....

Emotionally and financially stuck. Please sm.
No, you're not stuck. You obviously need to get away from the Not-So-Darling-BF. If he's breaking up stuff in the house, sooner or later he'll pop somebody. Okay?

You are earning money and I agree that you probably should purchase a place of your own. Right now, however, does not seem the time. Now is the time to set up a place of your own per rent and get yourself, your family, and your finances together. I know this is not what you want to hear, but it's the truth. Please do not take offense.

You need to gather yourself, so to speak, and you cannot do that with a mortgage you cannot afford alone hanging over your head. You'll just be headed for disaster, shorting yourself, your children, and your work.

Again, please don't take this the wrong way. I would simply hate like he$$ t see you make the same mistake that I've seen numerous times already.

The first step is to get out of there and set up your own place, not brother's or anyone else's, but yours. You have a family to support. If you choose to go it alone, then alone you should go. The second is to make the BF pay child support. Get that lined up and if he is dependable, you can figure it into your budget. And lastly, once you have your finances configured, you can then decide what you can afford for your family as a home. Comfortably.

No offense intended here and again, I hope you do not take any of this the wrong way. It's just the smart thing to do, especially when you have three children to think of.

Good luck. :)
Maybe you have some goo or a paperclip stuck in your keyboard.
Try pulling off your R and 4 keys and cleaning it out.  (Or maybe you suffer as I do with stubby finger syndrome!  LOL  My pinkies don't reach the top two rows.)
Told 18 and 14 y-os, $400-$500 per each one and have stuck to it. Will spend about $300 on DH. nm
:+
But the paper would be stuck to the floor. . .

because someone spilled Kool Aid and didn't bother to wipe it up.

Red Kool Aid.

Glad you stuck to your guns!

I am stuck going full time because
that's all the university offered. They said if I didn't want to go full time then get out of line because 933 other people wanted my spot. I have a small MTSO right now and so am able to just parcel out work and do a little QA each week. I already had an Associate's of Science which transferred to the U, and then I had to do pre-req of Nutrition, Developmental Psych and Organic Chem (and after I did organic chem, over the summer no less, they dropped it as a pre-req grrrrrrr). This fall is my third semester, I will finish after my fifth semester though I want to go on to get a master's as a nurse practitioner....another 2.5 years  **sigh**
Stuck adding dictionary
I've downloaded Stedmans 6.0 to Word (program files) and am attempting to add the dictionary for spell check.  I can locate the file but when I try to add a file name, I get hung up.  I'm sure the problem lies in the file name, either the original download or my efforts to add the dic.  I would very much appreciate an assist, pulling my hair out.  TIA - I have googled extensively and followed the instructions but I am missing something here.
Why is that some are still stuck in the year 2008?? LOL
x
Although I'm currently stuck with my offshoring MTSO,
I'd much rather do straight typing..
If it's Dictaphone or Philips, you're stuck
If the unit is Dictaphone or Philips and has a proprietary headset with weird prongs rather than a standard RCA plug like you can use with a Discman, then there is no adapter.  Those companies want you to have to buy your headset from them or their authorized vendors.  I've been through it with both.  It's not enough that you've paid big bucks for the unit, they want every last cent they can get, including for the headset.
Keyboard text stuck "on"
I hope someone can help me.  I was trying to print the computer screen and for some reason could not and my husband came to "help" me and somehow he got the desktop text that normally shows up under the desktop icons to be stuck in the "on" position.  Does anyone know how to turn them off?  My husband does not even know what he did to get them that way.  We never were able to print the screen.  If anyone can tell me how to turn off these desktop texts, please let me know.  Just in case this helps, I have Windows XP PRO and a Microsoft erganomic keyboard.  Thank you all in advance.
Help, I've been stuck with a gum chewer all morning!!!!! EEEWWWWW!!!

two days, had hunch should leave within a few hours but stuck it out. LOL

Never eat it. Hate food on my face and stuck in my teeth, esp. in public! Gross either way. nm
