Just curious how this works?  If I bought a new computer this last year, do I get to claim all of it on taxes or just a percent of it?  I am an IC.

Thanks!

Hey come on Sh*ri, show me the ads on your site by Google if it's not true. Your pages are showing "The webpage cannot be found" where you have placed Google Ads and Google has official explanation for it.

claiming computer
I've always claimed my computer but did it over a three year period each time I purchased a new one.
Husband claiming less for taxes.

I heard this might not be a good idea and that you can get penalized by the IRS anyway.  Any ideas what works best for any of you?  Should I have my husband claim less to make up for my taxes or, should I pay quarterly?  If this helps, I do have 2 kids.

Thanks in advance!!

Husband claiming less for taxes.
Thanks!  Do you have any kids?  I am just wondering if that is included as well, since you tend to get money back for kids.  I am hoping my two kids well help put us even, instead of paying in..
We have 2 kids and DH claiming 0 and single, but
we still have had to pay about $1500 in state, so just claiming as DH does and the kids is not enough to avoid additional taxes.    We also have lots of other deductions such as energy savings, taxes on property, mortgage interest, etc.
Husband claiming less for taxes.
Thanks everyone for your help. I think I will have my husband drop to a 2, then I will have to ajust accordingly. 2006 will be my first full year doing taxes as an IC. By saying exemption 2 at a single rate, you mean not married right? I just want to make sure I am understanding everyone (taxes are not my thing)!!!
To all ICs claiming huge deductions...(sm)

I just met with my accountant yesterday.  I am so sick I cannot think straight.  I asked alot of people before moving ahead with an IC position and leaving employee status.  EVERYONE stated that the deductions you can write off are more than worth paying the extra SS taxes that you no longer have an employer to pay.  I even saw several people specifically state they lowered their taxable income by $10,000 or more so the IC status was well worth the headache of paying the extra taxes.

Well, I would sure love to know how in the world you ladies come up with these deductions.  The accountant said my total deductions for my home office came to about $2400.  But then my SS taxes I owed ate up that plus about another $1500.  Are those of you reaping in huge deductions working strictly via the internet?  I have no gas, mileage, vehicle wear/tear deductions because I'm strictly internet based.  But even with considering those deductions, if I had them, I still cannot see where in the world you all are coming out so much better.  Someone please offer suggestions/comments....have I just completely screwed myself over here or do I need a new accountant??

SS is abused now as people with "disabilities" are claiming more and more.
I know what SS is supposed to be used for, but I get angry at people who abuse the privilege to receive such money. It angers me that as I pay into this program I may not see it when I retire and *need it* while others are using it now for *disabilities*.
