Depends on the versions of Word and WordPerfect. sm

Some WP versions can read Word .doc files, some don't. Some versions of WP will not accept copy/paste from Word. The advice to save the Word document as an .rtf file may be your only choice.

MS Word versions
Well found out that with the update, it DOES work, instead of doing "typical install' you can do a custom install and tell the update to keep the original version of Word, which it does and will also import your Stedman's Quick Look, etc.
If it comes with WordPerfect, it doesn't come with MS Word.
Unless you pay extra and special order it. One or the other, not both.
Just had to switch from Word to WordPerfect. Could someone please tell me in the
mess that is Corel Office, where I find UNDERSTANDABLE directions for making macros for headings, etc??
WordPerfect is 6.1 (I think) and Word is 2003

Even different versions of Word count the same, so it's not that either. nm

How to copy macros from WordPerfect to Word
Does anyone know how to do this?  Would save so much time, as we have tons. Thanks for any ideas!
Sharing with older versions of Word.
There are some problems with sharing files with older versions of Word. Although there are ways to get around it, it sounds as if it might be a bit annoying. I am thinking about upgrading, and this came up in my research.
Two versions of Word on the same computer will only work
correctly if the oldest version is installed *first*.
There are updated macros in all versions of Word
except 2007. The macro for 2000 is called macros9.dot and can be downloaded from the Microsoft site. The AutoCorrect Utility in 2002 & 2003 is in the support.dot template that is included with Word. You can go to this site to get the macro for 2007:

Or you can simply locate your .acl file and back that up. It's easy to find if you add an entry and then do a search for it by the date modified. Just make sure you are searching hidden files and folders.

Is there any way to import Word Autocorrect entries into WordPerfect?

I've been Googling it and there is some info about going from WordPerfect to Word, but I can't find anything about importing them from Word to WordPerfect.

I just got really screwy account where we have to transcribe the reports in WordPerfect to get the line count, then save them in Word to send to the client.

What version of Word? That can't be set in newer versions. I had to do a macro --sm
I hope this link works for you. It shows how to make the macro. I use alt + semicolon for it because it seemed those would be a convenient shortcut to use. H

Here's the link (you'll probably have to copy and paste it):

Upgrade to Word 2007 vs older versions
I just bought a new PC with Vista operating system.  Now I must buy Word to install.  I looked at the differences between Word 2007 and the older versions on the Microsoft website and it seems that there is a difference in the way Word 2007 is saved compared to the older versions - you have to download a "patch" to be able to "read" older version Word files and for my clinic to be able to "read" my Word 2007 they will have to download a "patch" as well to enable their PC to open this document.  I need some advice if this is a good idea or if I should just stick with an older version of Word.  I have a copy of about 3 years old that I have not used and can load on my system.  I would like to upgrade to the latest version as I know in a year or two the doctor's office would have changed but am wondering if the new version is a pain to work with or a pleasure.  Anybody out there that can tell me the pros and cons between upgrading to the latest or just sticking to the old and familiar.  I am also not sure if the doctor's office will download the patch and how accomodating they will be...
Difference in Word 2007 from older versions

I have a trial version of Word 2007 on my computer, and I really like its layout.  It's not a fully functional version, so I can only try it out so much.  Has anyone made the switch from the older versions of Word and liked it better?  Has it improved your productivity in any way?  Any problems with it?  All feedback appreciated.

Thanks!

Smartype only works in specific Word versions.
You want an Expander that works in all programs and a lot of platforms, such as Instant Text or Shorthand.

It depends on your version of Word.
.
Depends on what word program you are using
If you are using microsoft word 2003 or even 2000, I believe, then you only put in 1 space as there is a built in space in word that already shows up and if you try to put in a second space it will go in one space when you go down to the next line. Hopes this helps.
I think it depends on what year Word--sm
you have. I updated to XP and now the only way I have found to edit/change an entry is to insert in on a page, make changes, highlight and rename it. You will get a prompt stating an AutoCorrect entry already exists-do you want to redefine it--click yes.

As for the y/o I typed and saved -yo to expand to -year-old. There may be an easier way some one else may know. Hopes this helps.
I use my own word expanders. Depends on
the platform as to whether or not an Expander program is built-in or if you need to provide your own. One company I work for uses DQS & has it built-in, another uses MS Word & I use my own ShortHand program.
Depends on your version of Word. sm
With autonumbering turned on, Word 2000 and later will automatically indent your list. You cannot turn off the indent, however, you can press Alt + Shift + left arrow to demote the list to the left margin. You can also create your own numbered style with no indent.
It depends on your version of Word. Which one are you working in
and which version of Windows? Later versions no longer include the WP5.1 filter but you can use the old one if you still have old installation CDs. You can also download the filter from the link below.

How the heck do I double space??  I have been through the whole tool bar and cannot find where I can double space.  what I have found is how to space between paragraphs, which is not what I need.  I need to double space my report.

please help me   I'm almost crying over this.

I have WordPerfect 11 and have no
problems with Vista. If yours is like mine, it came preloaded with Word 2007 as a trial basis. I just deleted 2007 and loaded my Word 2003 and have not had any problems. I don't know why WordPerfect 11 and 12 would be so different. Maybe you can go to the WordPerfect site and see if it says anything about Vista, or maybe even the Microsoft site.
WordPerfect
Wondering if anyone can help me figure this out. I am trying to put the patient's name flush left on the top of the page and CENTER the title on the same line. It keeps centering the name with the title...what am I missing?
WordPerfect X3

I just bought & installed WP X3.  My office requires that all documents are password protected.  As I save my documents, I can 'see' the password protect box, but the program does not allow me to check the box & give a password.

Is there something in X3 that I need to go to that will allow me to use passwords?  I can't find it anywhere in the program & I've used Help, etc.

Thanks!

WordPerfect??
I am wondering how you put the places in your document that you can jump while typing dictation in WordPerfect?  Can anyone help me?
Yes, there are different versions...

The version that I worked on had access to other reports in the system, which was nice.  What I did was type in MS Word then paste into Meditech via Shorthand, just don't tell the company that you're doing that.  Otherwise, if I had to type directly into Meditech, I wouldn't have made any money.  So, like any platform, there are good and bad aspects to it, but it really depends on which version.

Wordperfect 5.1 for Dos - does anyone use this anymore? sm
I' m not sure what board to put this one but . . . I have an computer with Wordperfect 5.1 for DOS on it that I've kept around "just in case."  Are there any companies that actually use this program anymore or is it safe to say that I can get rid of it? TIA
Another WordPerfect question sm

I had to install WordPerfect 6.1 for a new client's work.  I already have WordPerfect Suite 12 on my computer, but now WP 6.1 is apparently set up as the default WP program and any time I open a WP document from the Documents menu instead of with WP 12 running, it opens as a WP 6.1 document.

How do I re-set WP 12 as the default WP program?? I have a ton of personal documents in there (I don't currently use it for a client).  I wouldn't mind so much, except that one document I use all the time, my telephone list, opens in WP 6.1 (instead of WP 12, where I originally created it) and then when I try to scroll down it says "insufficient memory" and the program closes.   HELP!!!!

TIA.

WordPerfect for DOS or Windows?
Either way, you'd have to write a macro or something that would find the next instance of what your jump marker might be, and go there.
Help with WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows
Long story short, I do dictation at a hospital where we use WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows.  I am going to be doing dictation at home and then pasting the file in WordPercfect at the hospital.  I was looking for a way to convert files from MS Word into to WP, but wasn't successful in that so now I'm trying to find a copy of WP 6.1 and am not having any luck.  Does someone know where I might could download this as I need it ASAP or can you use another version of WP with 6.1?  Thanks in advance.

WordPerfect numbered list help please!
Just starting to use WordPerfect, so unfamiliar with it. I can't get numbered list feature set properly. I can get it to number, think I have it set, and then when I save the document, close, and reopen, it has changed. Pulling my hair out here :) Any help is appreciated.
Any version of WordPerfect will be compatible. nm

Stedman's Spellchecker and WordPerfect

I have Microsoft Word and I have Stedman's Spellchecker on it, but I now also have WordPerfect and am wondering how I get it to pick up the spellchecker?  Anyone know?  Thanks!

Does anyone know if the newer versions of Escription sm
are compatible with Woord 2007?  The requirements I received some time ago stated that Word 2007 was not compatible.  Wondered if they had upgraded yet.  TIA
I have older versions saved.

If this poster (or anyone else) needs an earlier version, I have setup files for both 4.15 and 4.02 available. Just shoot off an email.

A lesson I learned a long time ago--always have a backup plan.Whenever I download a new program and after setting it up on my computer, I save the original set-up file in a folder called, amazingly enough, Downloads. Then, when a newer version is released, I also save it (usually with the version number as part of the name) in the same folder. That way, if anything goes wrong with the update, I have the old setup files to fall back on.

The same way you copy/paste in all versions.
Ctrl + C to copy, Ctrl + V to paste.
Those versions don't even come close to how IT V Pro works.

I have a lower versions but I find
that when it stops expanding, somehow (I know I didn't do it) the autoreplace box got unchecked.  When I check it back, it works again.  Hope this helps.
You aren't working in both versions.
That's why Word is working okay for you. If you want to work in both versions then the oldest one has to be installed first so the registry will know how to handle both.
Wordperfect instruction sites that are easy

I figured out how to assign shortcut keys to macros in Wordperfect and I found a bunch of other useful instructions for WP at these two sites:
