keyboard letters/numbers
I had the same problem with the Dell keyboard that came with the computer.  I bought a Logitech keyboard then ordered a protective keyboard cover from protectcovers.com.  It fits like a glove and was under $20.00.  I'm hoping this will prevent the same problem.  All you do is tell them your keyboard model number.  And, of course, it keeps crumbs, dust and other assorted things from getting down in your keys.
You have to get the numbers on one side and the letters on the other,
then come up with a common denominator.
B=2/3-1/8
B=16/24-3/24
B=13/24 (which does not simplify down)
I avoid numbers in my short forms and use letters
instead when needed. What I do most often is double-key a short form (same two letters) that goes back and adds slashes or dashes for dates and decimals. It's easier for me to key the numbers, then let a command entry edit when needed. You might want to go to Productivity Talk for a lot of great tips on learning IT.

letters for keyboard
there's a place called Gold Violin (1-877-648-8400) or www.goldviolin.com that has a set of letters (1-black letters and the other one white) that you can buy for about $10. they're enlarged too which makes it easier as well to see, if you've got that problem. i got a set and just haven't taken the time yet to clean up my keyboard to put them on. i love my cordless Logitech keyboard and mouse as well. i like the touch on my keyboard as well so don't want to buy another one just because the keys wore off, so this fit the bill for me.
Looking for black keyboard that letters don't rub off.
Been through several, haven't found one yet that numbers didn't rub off.  I have this one approximately 2 weeks from Logitec and I can see signs already where the letters and faiding.
Letters wearing off on keyboard
I admit, I purchased a very inexpensive keyboard, but the letters have worn off within a month! In looking at other keyboards at different stores, it looks like they all have the same kind of stuck-on letters that would wear off pretty quickly. Can anyone recommend a keyboard that retains its letters for a very long time with a lot of use? Or has anyone tried the stickers they make to cover the keys?
Keyboard that the letters won't wear off
Does anyone have a suggestion of a keyboard where the letters don't wear off. Got a new keyboard one month ago and I can hard see the letters. I have tried the flexible keyboard and totally hated it. (I think I have too much acid in my body or that is what I have been told).

How to replace letters on keyboard? (sm)

The letters on my keyboard get rubbed off within a couple of weeks of buying the darn things (just bought a new Microsoft ergonomic keyboard 2 weeks ago and already the A is half gone).  Is there anyway to buy replacement letters for these darn things?  Or do they make white sharpie markers?

I end up replacing the stupid keyboard at least yearly because after the letters are worn off, I find I wear grooves into the keys.  This is ridiculous.

Thanks in advance!

How to replace letters on keyboard
I have the same problem.  I have worn 11 of mine off and my keyboard is new too.  I am going to try that keyboard sticker idea.  Anything is worth a try.   My husband and son also use my keyboard from time to time and they fuss about those missing keys.  Thanks for the idea. I will try.  I do not use any lotion on my hands when I type.  They just do not make them like they used to.
DUH ... yes of course I do ... however, since my daughter uses this keyboard also I want letters! :(

*67 doesn't work on 800 numbers
Corporate numbers, 800 numbers, and government numbers often use a different form of caller ID. It's called a WATS line, and it records the originating phone number of EVERY call, not just the un-hidden ones.

Do this instead, if you decide to report something anonymously:

Go to a Dollar General, Family Dollar, whatever, and buy a Tracfone for $10. Activate it online from a public WiFi spot such as Panera's (NOT from your home desktop computer).

Use the Tracfone to call the 800 number. Throw away or give away the Tracfone after that - don't use it for anything else. Remove the battery immediately after the call. Place the call from a location as far away from your physical location of residence as possible.
I actually wore a hole in some of my keyboard letters... nm

keyboard shortcut/make letters larger
Somewhere I saw a simple keyboard shortcut that would make the letters in a program appear larger without changing the font size. I have a program I have to access at work and the letters are hard to read, but I'm not allowed to change the size. Does anyone know about this? Thanks!
maybe she doesn't want her keyboard to look ratty...
doesn't mean she doesn't know what keys they are...be nice
If they pay by character, they pay for numbers. Numbers are characters, silly.

I use a MSFT Natural keyboard at home and the laptop keyboard on the road. nm

If you use a standard keyboard you can buy an old IBM model M keyboard on ebay or clickykeyboards.co

That key printing never wear down because the letters are part of the key itself.  They just don't make them that way anymore because it is too expensive to make.  Some of the mechanical keyboards like Cherry have what they double shot key imprinting and the letters are part of the key itself and don't wear off. That IBM keyboard is very noisy from the type of keyswitch it has so you may not like that.  Logitech and Belkin make some membrane switch keyboards that are supposed to have longer lasting key imprints.  I have a logitech that has the longer lasting key imprints and it is pretty good.  You have to look on the specs to find out if has the longer lasting key printing.

I have experimented so much with keyboards and have done a lot of research.  Way too much info.

I use a laptop with a full-size keyboard (no separate keyboard)
I'm using a lap desk but previously was using a pillow with a book on it under the laptop. No additional keyboard though, I bought one with a full-sized board with regular size keys (an HP) which I LOVE and it took no time at all to get used to it. I also love that when the weather improves, I can take my computer outside and get some fresh air! What a great job... :)
Why are YOU attacking HER? Just because she doesn't want kids, doesn't mean she needs a psychi

Keyboard and mouse. Is there such a thing as a keyboard that has a mouse on the actual keyboard?

Has anyone used the Smartboard keyboard? Everyone tell what keyboard they have and rate it nm

Kinesis Keyboard and keyboard tray

Okay, any lefties use this keyboard? How long did it take to get used to? I use my left thumb for the space bar and I notice on a diagram of the keys that I would always be hitting the backspace key.

I'm really interested in getting a better keyboard. I destroyed my left hand and wrist the other week when I fell because I'm becoming a real klutz.

I bought the Soft Flex gloves, but they only help a little bit. My production is down because of it and it's driving me crazy. I can only type an hour without stopping and then have to rest the hand for some time.

I did buy a Microsoft 2000 keyboard but have yet to recieve it. Is this a good one?

Do you use a keyboard tray with it or just set it on the desk? Do you think a kayboard tray would be the least expensive item right now that would help with a straight keyboard?

Any info you can provide to help me in making any decision would be greatfully appreciated.

'Scuse me for being old school, but I've only ever used a straight keyboard.

Does anyone know of a keyboard that has the backspace key in the center of the keyboard? NM

Regarding letters
We have an account with our national where all the consults are dictated in letter format.  So for every single consult we get we have to look up the correct names, spelling, and addresses for the referring physicians because the dictators never give them. Once we get them we can save them in autotext, but it's still a pain to have to look them all up.
No letters
My daughter could not use my computer because of no letters left on the keyboard.
three letters: CTS
some of us CAN'T do much else at this point. I can't even write anymore!! And we blessed, fortunate ICs don't qualify for disability pay or unemployment... so yes, it's upsides and downsides, but in the end, right now I'm facing having to quit MT and I have NO idea what to do for a living, at the tender age of 36, and, with the pay cuts and such, no money to invest in an education. So please try to have some compassion... not all bellyaching is unfounded.
Think again - big letters at top saying

The written word can come back to bite you. Be careful what you say. If they care enough, they'll ask and then you can verbalize. Otherwise, it will become part of your permanent record. Don't say anything to make them angry, One never knows down the road when you will have to list them in your past employment history. Sometimes we would like to pour our hearts out but it would depend on what you have to say. I once wrote a note which was not really that bad but everyone in the company said I left a scathing letter which was totally untrue. The less you put in writing, the better, IMHO.
for me, the only ones that letters don't rub off....
and on the back of mine it does say Key Tronics.......
Use a name that is 4 letters or more and you get the... sm
AutoComplete tip box showing your entry, then you can press F3 or enter to expand it. Make sure the first 4 letters of the name are not the same as the first 4 in another entry or Word won't know which one you want and no tip will appear. You can use less than 4 letters in the name but no tip appears. You'd have to remember it and hit F3.

Just remember that AutoText only works in Word and you might want to think about a true text Expander that works in all of your programs. You can also bog down your normal.dot file if that is where you choose to save AutoText and you will be at high risk of corrupting the file. Make sure you keep a backup.

Consult Letters
Hello, does anybody know how consult letters are like?  Are they long and difficult?
i enter the first 4 letters...sm
Every time I come to a drug I enter the first four letters of the drug in Autocorrect, capping it if needed.  I think this is quicker than sitting down and entering a bunch at once.
It's like the chain letters you may have
received where there is a numbered list of people included and you add your name to the list, subtract a name from the list, all names on the list now are shifted and thus have a different number on the list that you create than on the list that you received, and then you send a dollar (or other amount . . . in this case, a pair of flip-flops) to each person that was on the list that you received. The people that you send your letter to are instructed to do the same, and so you wind up receiving (if the "chain" is not broken) money/items from each person that receives the letter that has your name on it (before you are "bumped" from the list).
Letters/envelopes
These are a pain. I worked an account like this and I hated it. What kind of lines can you get typing letters all day, especially when you have to worry about looking up addresses and if you do not live in the area of the hospital/clinic - forget it. The co. I was ICing for lost the account that was like this - and now I am on a much better account - love it - and doing editing.
Do you have to see the letters to type? Should

Can someone tell my how to format a letter so that the Dr.s address in the letter will automatically show up in the envelope box without having to add the envelope to the document?

Right now I have 10 keys without letters
on them and it works fine. I don't seen need to replace unless the keys are sticking or not working.
I have received a few letters
so far.  Keep those letters to The White House coming you guys!  I am so trying to get our voices heard so that our careers may be saved.  I am addressing outsourcing, offshoring, patient security, voice recognition and anything else that can come to mind concerning transcription.  I want to have a packet of letters to mail off because that will have a greater impact versus just sending one letter here and there.  Please join me!  Deadline for sending letters is 1/28/09.  Email me if you wanna join me:)
Please send me your letters!

I have received only a few letters to the President about transcription.  I want to send a packet full of letters is my goal!  Now I know a few of my friends are still working on their letters.  I want to address outsourcing, voice recognition & offshoring with the President.  So please join me to help get our voices heard!  Email me & I'll give you my address so that you may get your letter in to me by the deadline of 1/28/09.

Split keyboard mounted on chair arms versus split keyboard on desk

For longtime comfort which is best - split keyboard mounted on chair arms or split keyboard to be used on the desk?

Also, why the preference over split keyboards that come totally apart versus split keyboards that are permanently connected at the top?

I want to revamp my office and there are so many different options.

Numbers
I've been doing this for 20 years and never saw it done that way. It's grade 3/6. You are correct.
My numbers came from the US
O'Reilly get his stats?
800 numbers
I was told by the company I worked for that 800 numbers were very expensive.  They let us use them for awhile, and then they cancelled them.  All the unlimited plans I checked on said up front that medical transcription would not be allowed. I was afraid to just try anyway.
Numbers
I still spell out numbers 1-9 as ex, There are three sutures .... - as a rule of thumb and know what the big bad BOS says but I think this is safer than just pulling one little ole' nunber there by itself and spelling out is easier understood with no mistakes Untill my compnay tells me no I will continue to do this. I worry more about how it is going to be read back (missreading an 8 for a 6 or even a 6 for a 5 according to the font on the printer
The numbers....
Seeing Bush's numbers - ratings - dip down to the teens......That must be what it takes to get this country out of the shower - pryed from the sofa glued to American Idol and the likes, and do something about this lunatic we have for president....
The last numbers I saw
I believe I saw a report about a year ago about this. Early projections had predicted the savings would be 70%, but the reality is more like 17%, according to that report. It talked about all the people that have to edit the reports before they are client ready, so the work can't be as fast as they originally forcasted either, right? So what if it's done in the middle of the night if 4 people have to comb through each report before it's ready to go to client. I'm with you. A lot of time and effort has been invested in this "great idea," and I'm sure they think it's going to get better. But come on, are these edits all being sent back to the transcriptionists so they can even learn from their mistakes?
