Still make Drake and Drake drug reference?

I had this in the past and loved it, but now I don't seem to find it.  Do they not make this any longer? If not, what seems to be a good replacement that you use?  I need to update my reference books.

Thanks.

I use Drake & Drake's book aka
Saunders Pharmaceutical Word Book for most of them if I need them.
Drake and Drake
I don't know about the electronic version, but I have always found the book to be more up to date and easier to read than Quick Look.
Drake & Drake

I have never been a fan of the QLDB. I just have never found it to have all the drugs I can find in Drake & Drake although I think it has much better info about the drugs. I have the 2007 Drake and Drake book and CD.  I guess I bought both because I knew sometimes electronic things can be slow and I just like to have a book sometimes.  I'm glad I did because the electronic version is so slow I can wait for a minute or two, then pick up the book and still beat it.  It's nice to have something electronic so I can search by wildcard or keyword, and it does have a sounds-like search.  But I really can't recommend the Drake & Drake.  It hangs up something awful.  It doesn't play well with Windows - it takes up your full screen so you can't see your taskbar while it's your active window, and you can't tile and drag it, only maximize or minimize.

One tip for anyone having trouble searching the D&D with wild cards: Sometimes they stick arbitrary descriptive terms after the drug name, like "Azopt eye drops" (just a made-up example) so if you search for *zopt, it won't come up with it - you would have had to search for *zopt eye drops, or *zopt*.  That's not even a good example because it halfway makes sense - there are some in there that are truly bizarre.  And you can't ever know if they styled something "eyedrops" or "eye drops."  I've made it a habit to stick another wildcard at the end of everything I search for to account for these types of entries.  They might even affect whether the sound-alike search will return the right choices, I am not sure about that.  But it takes a lot of fooling with to find something sometimes, and as slow as it is, it can really be a major timewaster.

Just on a personal note it annoys the cr@p out of me that it opens up to a kind of welcome page where you always have to click "Enter" to get started.  I can't think of a more idiotic feature to put on something made for professionals for whom time and step-saving is of the essence.

I have used the electronic QL in the past and technically speaking it is light years ahead, but like I said, I just don't find it has the entries that I need. Maybe with that plus the internet as a supplement you might not have to go to the internet very often.

Why not wait for the Drake?

Ellen Drake is putting out a version of Saunders Pharmaceutical on a CD later this year.  Why not wait and get something that does not have the licensing hassles that the Stedman's version has?  It's about time that we MTs stopped supporting companies that make it difficult to deal with installing software on our computers after a crash, or make it difficult for us to use software on multiple computers.  Some of us have laptops, a computer in our home office, AND a computer in the bedroom.  We should not have to call the software vendor to get a code every time we have a crash or upgrade a drive.

Lots of 'em, but use a Lab Words, Sted's Ortho/Rehab Words, & Tessier's Surgical Words most

Pharm techs
Here's a link to the Bureau of Labor Statistics explaining what pharm techs do and the salary. (Note that it says some of their duties will be replaced by automated prescription-filling machines. LOL! It sees no one is immune!)

How to Activate My Stedman's Med/Pharm Spellchecker within MS Word

Hello,

Just installed my Stedman's 2005 Med/Pharm Dictionary and realized I no longer have the manual. Does anyone know how to activate it, that is, add it to the MS Word spellchecker?  Thank you much.   Dave

Me, too. I get both QLDB & Saunders new
s
I have always used Saunders Pharmaceutical
Word Book and get a new one about every 3 years. I also use rxlist.com and Drugs@FDA - link -- http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/drugsatfda/index.cfm?fuseaction=Search.Search_Drug_Name

I like using the books and just get the QLDB and the Saunders every Feb. when they come out. nm

What about Saunders drug book on CD?
I have always preferred Saunders to Quick Look, and they have just released their first version on CD. Has anyone tried it yet? I'd like to get it.
I vote for Saunders, have been using it for years (nm)

I use Saunders Pharmaceutical Word
Book and have for years. I usually only buy one however every 2 or 3 years as I do use a lot of medication web sites also.
There is a fix for Saunders 2007 Electronic version....sm

available.  It helped to speed it up a great deal.  I have both Saudners and QL  but for some reason my QL stopped working.  I find that the Saudners "sound-a-like" search has been very useful.  It initially was very slow but there is an update out there that fixes it and improves the speed dramatically.   I cannot recall where I got the info on the fix from but I'm sure if you visit www.spwb.com you may find it there or you can email the authors and get the update.

I agree, don't like the QLDB but I do like Saunders Pharmaceutical Word Book
That is one book I purchase yearly.

I have the 2007 Saunders CD and I think it's kind of slow. Hoping the QL is better this year tha
nm
You'll need a lab words book and maybe the Derm and Immunology Words..nm

I'm thinking about buying Saunders Pharmaceutical Word Book 2007 on CD/ROM...sm..

I've never bought a drug book on CD/ROM but I'd like to try it.  I'm guessing it would be quicker than looking everything up in a book.  I'm trying to get away from looking things up online because everytime I stop and look something up online I end up checking email, ebay, all the boards, etc., and not focusing on my work.  They're so much temptation on the internet!

I've bought one book (QLDB) back in 2000 so I need an update!  They sell the Saunders Drake & Drake Pharmaceutical Word Book  on CD/ROM and in the book form as a package or you can buy them separately.  I'm wondering why someone would buy both.

Any advice before I buy would be appreciated.

How sweet was that!!! See ya in 2008!!...sm

Ok - cyber daughter!!!  I just saw this post as I was not online yesterday (3/16).  GO HILL !!!!  *wink*  Have a GREAT weekend!!!!!

Thanks, and Happy 2008! NM

Don't forget it's 2008 sm
The rest is up to whoever writes your paycheck. Happy New Year!
Anyone here using QLDB 2008? (sm)

Can you do wildcard searches for drugs if you don't know the first letter?  For example, can you use *s*ax to search for "Fosamax"?  I have QLDB 2005 and I have not upgraded because someone said you can no longer do wildcard searches without the first letter (which you can do in the 2005 version). If this is so, I won't upgrade because this is a feature I really need sometimes.  I wonder if there are any other electronic drug references besides QLDB.

Thanks

Spyware 2008
Is anyone, or has anyone dealt with this thing?  My daughter is home for Christmas and I do not know if she accidentally started this thing or not.  She only goes into Facebook and MySpace, as I do.  Anyway, this thing keeps popping up.  My virus scan keeps blocking it.  Do I have anything to worry about?
If you have your last pay stub from 2008
or know how much you made, you can file without it.
glad I could help!! Hill in 2008!!!! nm

Two 1099 for one company for 2008?
I just received a second 1099 from Lee Perfect Transcription from last year, who I quit for partial non-payment.  They are for two different amounts.  The second one is $50 over what I made for the year.  The second one was under what I made.  The two together obviously are WAY OFF.  I called and they gave me an email address to write to, which I have not heard back.  Did anyone else have this?  Thanks.
It was already published in June 2008. nm
nm
Why is that some are still stuck in the year 2008?? LOL

The Sted's 2008 comes out next month. Wait

This is 2008. Why work without the correct tools. nm
nm
if you look - the cert letter is dated 2008
click on the tabs there, they are not in good standing for state taxes up to 2008
I just paid $150 to take it in July 2008,,,in the states
with the study group discount
They put out an update every year. Might want to wait for the 2008 version now. nm

2008 AAMT Book Of Style? Is it worth getting?
x
Also avoid Antivirus 2008/2009. It is very nasty.
x
Stedmans Med $ Surgical Equip words, Path and Lab words, and Tessiers Surgical Word book (3rd
edition).  I never buy drug books anymore.  Waist of money in my opinion.  New drugs come out so often, it's best to use the web.
Good luck to ya! Hope 2008 is the year of the transcriptionist !
x
Does Stedman offer updates for Quicklook? I just bought the 2008
x
The Sted's Ortho & Rehab Words is probably my most used book and then the Lab Words book. GL! nm

1099 ? Is the amount on the 1099 only the money paid to you in 2008. So if I did not receieve payme
than that $$ would be on my 1099 for 2009 not 2008??  I have to invoices that were due to be paid in 2008 but I never received the $$ until January of 2009.  Do I have to claim that money on my taxes this year or next???  Thanks in advance for your help.
Two words -
If she pursues this matter, I'd have a DNA test done immediately to determine whether your son is financially responsible or not.  It's worth the investment.
You took the words right out
Well said!

words, etc.
Has anyone heard of a company called words, etc. from California and their rep, etc?  Been offered position and just double checking.  Thanks!
looking up words

Somebody recently mentioned a site where you can go and put a * in the part of the word that you can't get.  Example:

ap*ectomy = appendectomy.

Can you tell me again where this site is?  It's sooooooooo helpful!!

Thanks!

These were not my words. I merely
copied the paragraphs from a previous post, because the original poster was looking for the item about the "golden handcuffs".  I don't necessarily agree with it.  Just trying to help the original poster find what she/he was looking for.
But they were my words. How many of the
companies mentioned on this board call you within 3 weeks and give you a raise because you are producing high quality work and producing well? (Not a 1/4 cpl, but a 2 cpl raise.) How many tell you about new accounts and give you the opportunity to change if you want? How many have primarily non-ESL accounts with good dictators? How many have a tech support group that does not have an automatic response that everything is your fault and that can be reached almost immediately so you are not sitting waiting, or have a very productive and easy platform to work on? How many times have you gotten a nice letter telling you you are doing a great job? How many actually talk to the owner of the company or something above the level of a team leader? How many get very clear instructions for the accounts? How many provide good samples of the dictators? And yes, I get benefits as well plus bonuses for high production without asking.

The person who referred me for this job told me this is what the company was like, but I was so hesitant because I had worked for too many of the bigger companies and gotten the bait and switch, the cherry picker routine, no raise, horrible accounts, late pay.
Oh, Words...

I am afraid that's one of my problems--thinking I'll wait until the end but then forgotting.  I am trying really hard to pay attention to every detail and then just be confident and let it go!

three words...........
FILE FOR DIVORCE!
2 words...

I have only said these same words for the last
whiney MTSO owners  who want good MTs and only pay 8 cpl.  Baloney, salami, rat's patootie, whatever.  Deliver the work and the pay, and you'll get your reports and maybe even some help when you really need it the most.  PAY MORE SMALL MTSOs, and you'll certainly get more in return!
