Elssa - Sony answering machine

You mentioned in your post that the docs called in on your Sony answering machine. Could you please tell me what model that was and how it worked for transcription.
Thanks
Barbara

while working my answering machine is set to ring twice
Period. If i hear the machine message saying emergency, i will grab it; otherwise they can wait until I am done!
Use an answering machine, or change your number
It has been my experience that these types of call will continue as long as they can reach you and make you "feel responsible." I have been called at midnight, 3:00 in the morning, 5:00 a.m. They are heartless and persistent. They Don't Care if they are bothering you or interrupting you or waking you. They only want to dump their "STAT" problem on YOU and off their hands. Change your numbers, use an answering machine, or get a line just for work and don't answer it when you don't want to get those types of calls. Good Luck, I know they make you feel guilty if you say no. Just do what you feel is your honest share and let the "callers" worry about the rest of the jobs.

With my second job, I have to use an external modem to dial up, they don't support high-speed internet. Is that what you have to do as well? We wondered if it would dial up or not. Where we live, if the phone goes out the cable goes out, as the cable uses the fiberoptic lines, so it's pretty much the same I guess if the internet went out, so would vonage. Seems like a really good deal.
Thanks for answering! (sm)

I think that is excellent that you can do that much.  1500 lines (with the kids home all day) would probably take me 12 hours!  My little one will go to kindergarten 2 years from now.  While I certainly hate to wish away the years, since children seem to grow up so quickly anyway, I know my work days will be so much easier and much more productive when they are all in school.

Thanks for answering (sm)
I was referring to Meditech Client.  I remember someone posting about an F8 function that took the spaces out.  I've been trying to locate the post, but I can't find it.

Thanks for answering.
My nephew next door just got a new laptop and together we have been trying to research possibilities. He has Verizon as his cell phone carrier and we have a local service. I had just stumbled onto the local fixed wireless service online and was just trying to check on feasibility of all options before actually making calls. It has been my experience that many companies supplying these services will assure you they can can work for you, but after they get your money you find out they cannot. I refuse to plop money down until I find out what (if anything) will work here. Until then I will contend with dial-up. At least it is cheap. I really appreciate your information. Thank you so much for taking time to respond.
Thank you so much for answering! sm
I really want to move on so I think I will continue my pursuit of my RHIA and my Masters in Heath Services Administration.

I really appreciate your answering!!

RE: Thank you for answering my
question. Not I realize how the hospitals are making such a huge profit by switching to VR. Yes, it may be easier on us to edit, but we are also being deprived of lines that we would be entitled to by transcribing the demographics and the list of recipients.

What are you asked to do (and not be paid for) if you cannot find a doctor's name in the database?
Sony ones
Would these be the fold-up Sony® MDR-A35G Sports Headphones?
If so, um... they look like earbuds or at least work the same way. I need a regular headset -- something I can grab off in one easy movement without tangling in my hair (for those quick get-aways)
Sony
Sony USED to be good; I have three newer ones and they ALL are like that.  I pay 100.00 - 125.00 to have them "fixed" and they work for a day or two and then back to more of the same.  Save your money and don't buy these anymore until they fix them.  I personally will never buy another one again.  It is like a bottomless money pit for me at 600.00 plus and then every 6 months or so another 125.00 for each one.  I was wondering if I were the only one.  Now I know they all are probably the same worthless pieces of junk.  I'm off to buy new ones and they definitely won't be Sony!
Sony for sure
I didn't have the exact same pair as the above poster, but they were Sony's for about $50 at Walmart. Just some earbuds that were supercomfy, crisp sound and had a nice long cord. I think they were actually marketed for the iPods.

Unfortunately, they didn't work too well once my dogs got hold of them. :-(
Thank You so very much for answering my questions

People on this board are great. Always willing to help. This should solve my problem.

Answering your questions,
No my husband does not make $1.00 an hour. He tells me sounds like your husband might have been owner of his truck but then mine is in the union and thank goodness, he was able to bring home over $100,000.00 last year which now allows me to work part-time instead of all the time. He does not do the gone for 3 days or more a week, in fact he is home so much feels sometimes like he is not gone at all. His off day is Monday. Gets home around 4 that morning and sleeps for awhile and then does not have to return to work until Tuesday at 9 p.m. the next day. He returns home again on Wednesday morning and then leaves out again at 9. We have loads of quality time together. He is not an owner, does not worry about having to pay this person or that and this is a great thing for us, our medical insurance is a freeby. I love his job. We are further up in age so we both enjoy our time together as much as our down time from each other. Gotta run, on my way to my ceramic class before work this morning.
Thank you for answering. Much appreciated.

answering a question or two

Hello again, I see my email address was removed, sorry, didn't know that was a bad thing to put it in, sorry about that. If anyone is still interested if you just reply to my first post or this one, I will get back with you.

I had someone ask me if you had to be an MT for a bunch of years to help out with my MT mentoring project, and nope, if you know the answer to a question that's been asked it doesn't matter if you've been an MT for a month or 20 years, all the help we can get would be greatly appreciated.

I know that most people can get their questions answered here because MT Stars rock, but my hope is to help people out who need a question answered quickly. Heck, I know I've been an MT for quite a while and I still have questions sometimes that I need an answer to right away and QA is slow to respond.

Anyway, thanks you guys for the responses I've already gotten, you guys are great. Shannon

There you go again,Mary, answering
tsk, tsk, tsk...

I am answering to my own post sm
above. I am not an IC right now. I took a job with LM that didn't work out. That was IC. This job with KS is emp status. If I said it was IC someplace that was a mistake, but I can't find it. It is one account, one group of docs, no VR, nothing. Why the big ruckus anyway. Just trying to let folks know there are decent jobs out there. Good grief.
Answering your last question...
The doctor would probably just deny up and down that he actually said it that way! Those kinds of mistakes always get passed off as [must have been the transcriptionist's typo, I couldn't have said that!] grrrr..... ;)
Everyone answering, are all working on VR or do you just not want to?

Go for the best! Sony, Philips - anything over $50.
Minimum $50 for a good pair. It never ceases to amaze me that MTs spend under $10 for the very thing that makes or breaks their work - Everything is based on what we hear. The difference is phenomenal between a cheap $10 headset and a good $50 and up one. Treat yourself well and go for a good set - again anything Sony or Philips over $50 - wireless are great - Sony makes a great rechargeable wireless. I prefer the Philips regular set that runs around $50. I can hear anything and everything perfectly, while my coworkers struggle and struggle. Invest in yourself and your career - you are WORTH IT!!
SONY DIGITAL HELP!!!

Well... this is the first time I have ever done anything like this, so bear with me!  I have recently started typing for a clinic who is using the Sony ICD-BM1 recorder.  After the doctor dictates, the office staff downloads the files from the memory stick and sends them via email.  HOWEVER, the files are HUGE.  A typical 1-2 minute dictation is coming across as 2 MB or more.  I have an 8 minute dictation that came across this afternoon that was 87 MB after I converted it from an MP3 to WAV.  I am well-versed in the Olympus DSS system and another office I type for uses it.  Typically with the Olympus system it will take 25-30 dictation (1-3 minutes each) to even equal 2 MB.  The particular office who uses Olympus is able to send me 30+ files at a time to download, whereas the office using Sony has to send them 1 at a time and usually 50% will bounce back to them.

So, my question is...  Has anybody ever experienced this problem and, if so, HOW DO I FIX IT??  The other Transcriptionist (who actually works in-office) is getting ready to go out of town on vacation and we are hoping somebody can help us learn to compress the files before she leaves so that the other office personnel won't have to mess around with it as much as we do.  TIA ~Missy

Need digital help! (Sony)

Anybody have docs who use a Sony digital recorder?  My docs are recently using them and it is turning out that a single 2 minute dictation is coming across as 2 MB or more, thus 10 dictations are coming across as 20 MB or more, which in turn are being rejected by the email server.  I have another clinic who uses Olympus DSS and it would take 30+ of 2-3 minute dictations to equal 2 MB.  Is there a setting within the recorder that needs to be adjusted to make the files smaller?  These individual files just seem so huge and it is making it difficult for the office to get them out via email because they have to be sent one at a time and I have to be on the other end to download and delete off the server before more will go through.  (I only have a 10 MB email box).  Any help would be appreciated.  TIA!

I use Sony earbuds
Bought them (Radio Shack, $59) specifically to use with my iPod, but I tried them and love them for transcription. They come with three different-sized rubber pieces to fit your ears and block out noise. I tried all three before settling on the smallest one. Warning...they block noise so well that I almost had a heart attack when DD came for a visit and appeared out of nowhere. She said she rang the doorbell, but I never heard it. I also can't hear the the keyboard clicking or the grandfather clock bonging or the phone ringing or the dogs barking or DH hollering....love these earbuds!
sony wav pedal
I am not an ignorant person but I just can't figure out this wav pedal.  Right now I am in tears because I can't get it to work.  Can anyone teach me how to get the files onto the wav player and then transcribe them?  I am so frustrated I could scream.  Any help would be great.  I have absolutely no experience in wav pedals, so I think that is my problem.  Can you help?  Is there a web site where they take you step by step through how to use it?  Thanks
Sony hook-over-the-ear (sm)
Okay, so I don't know what you really call them, but I have tried sooo many different types of earphones because I am kind of funny about what feels good on my head.
I found these little Sony earphones that have a hook that is kind of like a pair of eyeglasses that holds the sponge-covered speaker to the outside of your ear. They are on a "Y" wire, so there is nothing over the head, and you can use just one if you need an ear to hear what the kids are getting into.
I bought mine at Radio Shack for about $20.00 last year, but I've seen them other places (probably even Walmart), so I'm sure if you're interested, you can find them. Sorry I can't remember what they are called. If not, e-mail me and I will take a picture of them and send it to you.
Sony Featherlight
I use Sony Featherlight Walkman headphones that you can buy at your local discount center.  They go over your head and you barely even know you have them on.  The sound is great, too!
Sony headphones...
I LOVE my Sony MDR-NC7 headphones.  They sit right on my ears, are very comfortable, and when the noise cancelling feature is turned on, the sound is very crisp and clear.  I don't know if you are in the market for noise cancelling, but I thought I would put my two cents in, since I do highly recommend these to anyone!  I bought mine at Best Buy for $49.99.
Sony NC headphones...
Mine are model #MDR-NC7.  I love them, they are very comfortable to wear, as they sit right on my ears, and are very cushy!  The NC is great, I can even hear the doctors very clearly when my 4-year-old and husband are in the same room.  I bought them at Best Buy for $49.99.  I know that there are better ones out there, but for the price, I highly recommend these!
Would you mind answering another question
Once you have created the template, if you need to make changes to it, how do you open the template rather than a new document based on the template?

I sure would appreciate any help on this. TIA
I have hesitated in answering this question--sm
simply for how it will be perceived, but someone below mentioned something about not caring for elders if there had been abuse. My mother physically and emotionally abused me from the day of my birth. She never wanted another child and made no bones about letting me know that my whole entire life. I have had difficulties all my life in developing and maintaining loving relationships with anyone, be it male or female, my whole life. My father died three years ago now and my mother has tried to force herself on all of her kids since then, expecting us to take the place of our dad and provide her entertainment and socialization. I must mention that my mother is a raving alcoholic with violet outbursts when she is drunk. My sister and first child has always been the favorite, but she lives 200 miles away. My brother and youngest child had enough of her demands and expectations when she moved to his same town after my father passed on. He has moved 500 miles away now and has washed his hands of her. She has since moved to within one mile of me and now I am "expected" to do everything for her that she needs. I have no warm and fuzzy feelings for her due to past treatment of me, but I do what I can for her out of pure responsibility. She cannot drive anymore, so that is left entirely up to me. My sister comes around only on holidays, but that is about it. I have contributed financial support when needed, I take her wherever she needs to go, but on my schedule not hers, and I have had her tell my siblings and other relatives that I won't do anything for her and that I absolutely refuse to, which is definitely not true. I gave up defending myself. I do what I have to do, but not because I want to. I will not see her in a nursing home. I do not feel they are appropriate, but she is still my mother, no matter what water has crossed under any bridges. She is 78, mourns my father's passing, and wishes for death every day of her life. She is needy and demanding and I hate that, but I do what I have to do.

this is just my story and I am not wanting to start any arguments here. Just venting, I guess.
It may be old news, but it's something I wanted to know. Thanks for answering. sm
I do think the name "American" has been removed, as it should have been.  Thanks again.
Answering the question you asked...sm
The phenomenon you correctly observe hasn't come about as a result of any one thing or at any particular moment. It is the culmination of a number of cost-cutting measures and offshore competitive pressures that have rolled downhill and landed most heavily on the folks at the bottom.
Get a pair of Sony earphones. sm

Like the ones kids plug into a portable disc player.  I'm not talking about the "cheapies" that most kids use for the disc player with the little foam rubber spongy thingys.  Get yourself a decent set that have "faux leather" with the big padding that cover both ears. You won't hear a thing outside of your earphones. Make sure the ear things cover both ears and have a lot of cushioning.  A good pair might cost you 20 or 30 bucks, but is well worth it.

Good luck and godspeed MT comrade! :)

.

Just make sure the earphone attachment is the same size as your speakers.

I bought my Sony and Panasonic new on
ebay for about $40 apiece.  That's been 5 years ago now.  I use them both weekly.  I don't know what the difference is between a Pearlcorder or any other machine.
Does anyone own a Sony Vaio laptop? Can you tell me what you think? nm

sony foot pedal help

I lost the disk to download the installation for my Sony FS-85USB wav pedal when I moved recently.  Any one know where I can get one or download the installation? Also, lost my red line under misspelled words in Word. How do I get it back?

There are Sony ones at Radio Shack sm
that were suggested to me so I bought a pair.  They are silver and look sort of like Spock ears when you have them on.  I think they come with a year warranty or maybe I bought that for a few cents, can't remember now.   I really like those.

New Sony MDR-NC7 squeezing my head

They are comfy at first but after about 20 minutes my ears are killing me and the sound is not as great as I was hoping.  Are there any other ideas.  I thought about the Koss portapro or sportapro but don't know anything about them either.  I have been using a cheap GE pair after my dog broke my good pair but have a new account that is impossible to hear on the best of days so I thought now is a good time to get a replacement.  Unfortunately the Sony's just aren't the ones I'm looking for.  I can't handle anything over this price range though.

Never mind..I didn't see your post answering that sm
very question below.

Mea Culpa.

And sadly, I don't have the Spheris Expander to which you were referring.

Nevermind - I saw your second post answering my question. sm
It might be video, but you might not have a video card because a lot of motherboards have the video functions (chipset) embedded on the board these days. If that's the case, it might need a new motherboard. Hopefully, you do have a video card that proves to be the problem and it turns out to be an easy fix.
anyone using Expres Scribe? can you use SONY pedal with it? NM

12 pin Sony foot pedal, adaptor?

I use it with a Sony micro dictator/transcriber but I'm finally jumping into the 21st century.  Anyone know if I can find a USB adaptor for such a foot pedal or will I need to invest in a new foot pedal?  If so, where should I get one?  I'd like to buy one locally, or do I need to but it online?

Thanks!

Anyone tried the Sony wireless headphones or another brand - sm
I currently have a Radio Shack version (900 MHz) but there is an awful hissing sound with every word of dictation.  I like them because they allow you to turn the volume of your dictation up very high, which is perfect for my low-talkers, but the hissing noise is driving me crazy.  Thanks in advance for any help or info you can provide.
Sony M2000 transcriber question
Just bought a Sony M2000 microcassette transcriber from Goodwill for $6.99 with all accessories.  (buy of the year!!)  Can someone tell me how to erase tapes?  I currently use a Panasonic, so I'm not quite sure how it works.  I'm sure the answer is right in front of my eyes.  Thanks alot!!
P.S. The temperamental Sony unit was a bargain at $100! Ouch!
Anybody want to sell me a bridge?
I use the Sony dynamic stereo headphones that go over the years. I don't have a
hearign problem yet, but they shut out alot of outside noise (like the kids), and are very comfortable.
