For me, the SmartLine is what I like.

It knows what I'm going to type so I only have to type part of a word and then hit space bar and the word is in the document. With Instant Text there was too much memorization and making abbreviations for words. You don't have to do that with SmartType. The word you are typing comes up in the SmartLine as you are typing and you just hit the space bar and move on. With InstantText I was constantly making abbreviations for words or searching for the words I wanted down below. Learning an abbreviation for nearly every word out there is silly IMO. It would be faster just to type the dang word myself! SmartType seems to do it all for you, but you can still make abbreviations for long commonly used phrases and such.

Its just what you get used to I guess. I used SmartType from day 1 of my MT career so its what I'm used to. I heard a lot of great things about Instant Text so gave it a fair try, but after 3 solid days of it, I realized that *I* was faster with SmartType.

I don't think you understand what a SmartLine is or

how to use Smartype properly.  Your SmartLines are loaded into the program when you buy it.  They don't just automatically add themselves in without it being installed originally or if you add them manually.  If you don't want to use SmartLines (which would mean you would lose productivity), you just simply need to turn off Smartype all together.  If you are saying you begin typing something and you get SmartLine prompts and when you hit your key to expand that SmartLine and this is your problem, you need to hit your escape key to keep the SmartLine from expanding into your document.

I have never had this problem through multiple platforms, both in DOS and Windows for the last 10 years.
