Stedman's Spellchecker
I know this is probably a silly question, but..I loaded Stedman's Spellchecker on my computer awhile back but have never used it.  Today I was looking for it on my computer and can't find it.  Should it come up under program files on your computer? or does it just combine with spellchecker in Word somehow and not show up on its own as a program?  I thought maybe someone here who uses it could point me in the right direction.  Is there some way you can make adjustments to it or is just part of Word after you load it?  Thanks much for any help!!
Stedman's spellchecker
How often do you update your spellchecker? I bought a Stedman's spellchecker almost a year ago (2006 version) and I received in the mail information about updating to 2007.  I am not sure if I should update yet or not.  TIA
Stedman's Spellchecker and DQS
Hi, I searched before loading this question....Can Stedman's Spellchecker be loaded on DocQscribe.  Currently I am using the copy and paste method which is time consuming.  Thanks.
Editing Stedman's Spellchecker ??
Can someone tell me how to do this? There are some boo-boos in there and I would like to delete them. I'm using the spellchecker on Word 2003 and XP is my system. TIA.
Vista & Stedman SpellChecker-How do you
Ok, I have found just one more program that isn't wanting to work with Vista.  How do you all get Stedmans SpellChecker to work with Vista?  Every time I try to install it, it just stops the install.  Thanks for any help
Stedman's spellchecker. Can I install this on....

two different computers?  I have a desktop and a laptop and I would like it on both but am unsure if I would be able to download it on both. May be a silly question but I am computer challenged :) .  Thanks

Stedman's Spellchecker and WordPerfect

I have Microsoft Word and I have Stedman's Spellchecker on it, but I now also have WordPerfect and am wondering how I get it to pick up the spellchecker?  Anyone know?  Thanks!

Don't need a medical dictionary, but you should have the Stedman's spellchecker loaded. Can

Help! Bought Stedman's new Spellchecker and can't open ZIP files!

I emailed Stedman's numerous times and their Tech email addy bounces back.  I have called 3 times and left messages!!  I work at home for my hospital and haven't gotten a Call from them.  The new Spellchecker was downloaded and I should have bought the CD!!  Because it was downloaded I can't get my money back!

Can anyone email me instructions on how to find these files (says I'm missing the exe file and won't run) and get it installed.  I'm really getting disappointed in Stedman's.  Their reference Books are great but customer service is the Pitts!!

How to Activate My Stedman's Med/Pharm Spellchecker within MS Word

Hello,

Just installed my Stedman's 2005 Med/Pharm Dictionary and realized I no longer have the manual. Does anyone know how to activate it, that is, add it to the MS Word spellchecker?  Thank you much.   Dave

shorthand is fine sm
too much is overkill. You can easily forget what you have in there. In my opinion, ShortHand is like PRD, can convert the files, and you can make killer lines with it ET is just too complicated. You need to simplify, and tune it to you own docs.

Is this for autocorrect or shorthand?

Sorry I'm so dense, but I use autocorrect/autotext and I can't seem to figure out how you're saying to do this.

Is this --> {@KEY BkSp}-pack-per-year ... for autocorrect or autotext or ShortHand (which I don't have).

Thanks so much for your help!

TIA!

Shorthand different than Autocorrect
I just download PC ShortHand for the 30 day trial and I want to know what's the difference between it and autocorrect?  I have not been to thrilled with Autocorrect yet because it seems to run so slowly that I have already typed the word by the time I even notice the Shorthand box in my document.  I like Autocorrect, what's the difference between the two and how can SH enhance my speed.  Thanks
how does Shorthand surpass AutoCorrect

Put down that keyboard!!!

No, seriously. I've read dribs and drabs and what I see is an understanding of programming. That'll have me pulling my hair out.

Does Shorthand conflict with AutoCorrect?
Question for you all...I'm using ShortHand and also AutoCorrect but I've noticed something weird happening with Shorthand.  If I have a sentence in Shorthand and it expands in my document, sometimes it misspells a word in the sentence by leaving out one letter or it smushes 2 of the words together in the sentence, even thought it's not like that in the Shorthand entry.  Any ideas why this could be happening??  The only thing I can think of is maybe Shorthand is conflicting with AutoCorrect.  Should I not run the 2 programs together?  Any help is greatly appreciated as this is really slowing me down.  THANKS
Shorthand and Autocorrect question
I'm trying to set up a shortcut so that I can transcribe pack-per-year history to immediately follow the number, but I'm doing something wrong because I get a space between the hyphen beginning this phrase and the number. It looks like this: 50 -pack-per-year history instead of 50-pack-per-year history. I have Shorthand, but I've also tried doing this in Autocorrect, and it doesn't seem to work correctly no matter which one I try. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? My age shortcut works just fine, which is a hyphenated phrase too.

HELP! Anyone know how to convert AutoCorrect to Shorthand? sm
I purchased ShortHand and tried converting my AutoCorrect to it.  It saves as a dictionary but is not expanding.  Anyone know what I can do?
Word AutoText, AutoCorrect, and Spellchecker, and other Word features
I have just started working for a company that uses Word (my previous experience was HTML-based and had its own autotext and spellchecker).

I have never bought medical spellcheckers nor Instant Text, especially that I have learned a lot from posters here that one could use the autocorrect feature for long words/phrases/paragraphs/templates. I have heard of people saying autocorrect was not meant to be used for such.

I have been browsing some features of shortcuts in Word (using the Assistant), and have discovered that it has AutoText. I tried it by highlighting a whole document (canned procedured), then hit Alt+F3, assigned a code, and voila! I have a template that readily inserts into an open Word document by typing the code and hitting Enter.

Also, I have learned that I can insert empty fields (for variables in my templates like BP/HR/RR/Temp values by hitting Ctrl+F9, then when I have inserted the autotext for a template with such empty fields, I can readily jump from one field to the next (to fill them up with values) by hitting F11 (or Shift+F11 to go to previous empty field).

We do know that many dictators want us to type verbatim even for running sentences, so that I have found the Spelling and Grammar checker feature of Word quite cumbersome. I discovered tonight that I could use just the spellchecker feature by clicking on Tools > Customize, then under Categories, select Tools; under Commands, select Spelling. I dragged that onto my tool bars so I can do a quick spellcheck. Cool thing was, the previous documents I have made with new drug names, etc., which I have spellchecked using a non-Word program, were automatically included in its database (so I do not have to re-enter them as I begin to utilize this feature). Drawback: I could not make a shortcut key for this (have to use the mouse again!)

Then I made my OWN keyboard shortcut for autocorrect by going to Tools>Customize>Keyboard (click on button then another window appears), Under Categories, choose Tools; under Commands, choose AutoCorrect. Under Press new shortcut key, assign the shortcut you want (F key, Alt or Ctrl + desired key), then click on Assign button.

Well, that is all I can share for now. I have learned a lot from posters here, and I hope I have added some info, especially for Word users like me who can be categorized as average.javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');
javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');
Need info on backing up Shorthand files. Also Word Autocorrect. TIA. nm

Yes, I agree. Free is a good price and Express Scribe will work just fine for you. (nm)

Stedman's Med Dictionary and Stedman's Med Spell checker are two different programs. Which on

do you have?  If it is the medical dictionary, as far as I know it is only a reference software and can't be used as a spell checker.

If you have the spell checker, go into Word.  Click on Tools, Options, and then Spelling & Grammar tab.  Then click on the Custom Dictionaries button about half way down the window.  This will open a new window that lists your available dictionaries and one should be checked.  Mine is checked next CUSTOM.DIC (DEFAULT).  There is an ADD button to the right.  If you click it, you will be able to browse for your custom dictionary.

Hope that helps.

I totally agree, the company I work for is switching from IT to Shorthand :( yuck!

I have only used Stedman's. What are some differences in Dorland's and Stedman's?
xx
It's not a MEDICAL spellchecker. You have to convince them to add the medical spellchecker.
unless you feel like adding 10,000 medical terms on your own time LOL
SpeedType and Shorthand are the exact same program. Shorthand is lots cheaper and also has a trial.
.
{@KEY BkSp}-pack-per-year is for Shorthand. Using the semicolon works with both Shorthand and

;yo = -year-old

;py= -pack-year

etc...

Shorthand and SpeedType are exact same program. Shorthand will cost you lots less.
you can import your autocorrect into Shorthand.
I took shorthand too. But it sure comes in helpful for my expanders. I view words in shorthand for
i did use shorthand once in a job but i was so nervous the "boss" took pity and dictated the report on dictaphone.
If it is Shorthand, save the SPF file to a disk, then if you buy Shorthand yourself....
you can just drop the SPF file into it. That is not dishonest since you are the one who put the macros in. I am sure is it is another Expander there is a way to save the macro file and then drop it in the expander you buy on your own.
Spellchecker
I have always used Steadman's (provided by employer), but had to buy one for an IC job.  I got Dorland's spellchecker free with the purchase of a Dorland's dictionary (less than $50).  I find it to be similar to Steadman's and thrilled that I didn't have to spend $100+.  I am not sure if they are still offering this software free, but worth checking into (I bought the 30th edition about a year ago).
It does have a its own Spellchecker...

I have worked in several different Meditech systems.  They all had spellcheckers and you can even add words (new medicines).

Spellchecker

I am managing 10 copy editors at a pharmaceutical company. I am going to get a med/pharm/?vet spellchecker and would be interested in opinions on the best one.

I am leaning heavily towards Stedman's or Spellex as both offer quarterly updates.

Your opinions would be appreciated.

I have the same problem and was wondering the same thing!

I work in Meditech/Word and my spellchecker is shift F9 for sure. Has worked for 3 years as shift F9.

I need to purchase a medical spellchecker.  Which one is the best one to get?
I don't know about the spellchecker
I don't know how it is with the spellchecker, but the electronic word books now you can only download twice.    If buying on e-bay and they have a very good rating I probably wouldn't hesitate to buy it and then if it didn't work you could return it or they could refund you, otherwise I would probably be hesitant to purchase used.
spellchecker
I use Dorland's. I just bought the newest edition of the dictionary which comes with the spellchecker cd. Up-to-date and easy to install.

If you had to purchase a medical spellchecker for your computer, which brand would you buy and where are good prices for them?

Thanks

i also need a good wav pedal. used is fine.

A spellchecker is the backbone (sm)
of what you do. Do not take shortcuts on this. Save money elsewhere.
Can you use a different spellchecker with Bayscribe? nm

Editing Spellchecker
Hi, I hope I can help - it's been a while.  I would go to my supplemental dictionary (where the error words usually end up), open it, do a search for your misspelled words, find them, highlight, and delete, OR you can type in your "boo-boos" into the "commonly used words" and then change them to the correct spellings.  You could also set your formatting whereby if you seem to always type the same word(s) incorrectly, i.e.,"sublingaul", you can type the incorrect spelling and do a "change to" then type in sublingual the correct way.  It will automatically change the word in your document to the correct spelling.  I hope this helps, but I am not at my home computer to go through the exact sequence.  Good luck.  If I can find any more info, I will forward!  God Bless!
Bayscribe spellchecker
I am an independent contractor with a company which utilizes Bayscribe for transcription. Recently, I have been receiving feedback that I have been sending reports with spelling/typo errors. It turns out that the spellchecker which is programmed as part of Bayscribe has a long list of words which are misspelled which will pass as correct! I spent a lot of time one day programming all the incorrect words in the spellchecker as "treat as misspelled." Unfortunately, once I log off Bayscribe the spellchecker cancels out my instructions and the words once again pass through as correct. This is extremely annoying to say the least! It is my understanding that the programmer refuses to fix this. I was wondering if anyone else had come across this problem and if so, what you did to fix it. Currently, I am copying my report into Word and running my Stedman's spellcheck on it.

How did you get Stedmans SpellChecker to
Did you have to change some settings somewhere?  Please give me the details because when I try to install it it just quits the install process.  Thanks so much
And there is a medical spellchecker
at most places (yes, I've worked places there was not and every medical term had to be added meticulously to the regular spellchecker. I've also worked places where the spellchecker had many, many errors in it, so keep that possibility in mind. Be ever so careful about adding terms, be they MD names or new drugs or whatever.

Use a program like ShortHand to help you with words you chronically misspell and common phrases, even if they are just English phrases. There are tricks. For instance, type ecoli and have it change to E. coli. But have some special ending (I use j) to add to it to make it spell out this tricky bacteria in full, properly capitalized. Do you think I remember each time the right way to type HER-2/neu ? No, I just type h2n and the above pops up for me. Plenty of tricks available for the trickiest terms.

Spellchecker problems
I'm having trouble loading my Stedman's spellchecker.  It keeps asking for the response code and then won't take it.  My computer messed up and I'm having to reload everything and now I can't get this back on.  Anyone else have this happen?  What did you do?
