No, Stedman's spell checker does not work with

Meditech.  Meditech has its own spell checker, and believe me, you want to stay away from it because it has been added to by transcriptionists at each site who DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPELL!

Meditech is the worst platform of any around bar none.  It is not geared to transcription.  It is only a data base system. The hospitals that use it are too cheap to do anything to upgrade to a Windows based transcription system.  They will offshore before they will do that.  Bottom line, you know.    MEDITECH IS A PRODUCTION KILLER.

Stedman's Med Dictionary and Stedman's Med Spell checker are two different programs. Which on

do you have?  If it is the medical dictionary, as far as I know it is only a reference software and can't be used as a spell checker.

If you have the spell checker, go into Word.  Click on Tools, Options, and then Spelling & Grammar tab.  Then click on the Custom Dictionaries button about half way down the window.  This will open a new window that lists your available dictionaries and one should be checked.  Mine is checked next CUSTOM.DIC (DEFAULT).  There is an ADD button to the right.  If you click it, you will be able to browse for your custom dictionary.

Hope that helps.

Stedman's Plus Spell Checker
I purchased a new computer that has Word 2007.  The Stedman's Spell Checker that I have is the 2005 version.  Does anyone know if it will work with Word 2007 or do I just need to purchase a new medical spell checker?
My Stedman's spell checker
If I do not capitalize a non generic drug, my Stedman's capitalizes it, however it will not lower case the generics if I accidentally type it with a capital.  However I am luck, my docs don't care and if I accidently capitalize a generic, no biggy or if I do not capitalize it, no biggy as long as the spelling is correct.  I do try and be accurate but sometimes I am not. But I have noticed that my Stedman's will capitalize if it should be and I wish it would work the other way also.  .
Stedman's Spell Checker works for me. nm

Stedman's spell check does not work with 2007.
Tech support at Stedman's said that come Feb 28, 2007 they are releasing an updated version of their spellchecker and it will work with Word 2007. If you already have Stedman's spellchecker 2006, on Feb. 28 you can call with your registration number and they can give you an update in the amount $39.00 instead of buying the whole thing all over again!
DQS spell checker
When you type "whre" instead of "where" when you spell check it the first word that comes up for a correction option is "whore."  Wonder how many reports typed by some of our wonderfully accurate Medquist MT's made it through with the word whore in the report?
spell checker I use
I have used steadmans spell checker for word in the past but the company I work for uses Spellex. I cant really tell a difference between the two but I do know Spellex has a free trial on there site so you can try it before you buy.
Spell checker
I have used Stedman's spell checker on two different jobs and love it, but not the price, especially since it is just for one user.  Can I really only put it on one computer?  I am an IC and have two computers, and now need to buy a medical spell checker.  What do all of you guys recommend?  I like the fact that the spell checker automatically corrects a lot of the words, and does not simply flag them.  I also do not want to go through a manual spell check after I finish a document.  Is there another spell checker out there that works as well for less money?
spell checker
If you are working off a template or sample that has been spell checked previously you have to reset your document in - tools, options, spell check - check document - so that it will re-look at everything. I do this with every document just to be sure.
Spell checker
I recommend Stedman's Plus Spell Check software through their website. mnm
spell checker
I highly recommend Dorland's spell checker CD that comes with their illustrated dictionary (I paid about $55.00 two years ago). It has all of the words the dictionary has but the beauty of it is you install it directly into your word processing program.  You have to change your dictionary from default to "medical".  It then works like any other spell checker, except it is all medical.  It saves a tone of time and is great for accuracy.
I use Spellex Spell Checker
I have Vista and Office 2007 . I use Spellex Spell Check for Office 2007 and LOVE IT! :). You can go to there website and download a trial. I hope this helps! :)
Medical spell checker
What is the best spell medical spell checker to buy?  I'm new to this.  Thanks.
I type into EMR with no spell checker
KInd of like balancijng your checkbook without a calculator but it can be done.  I keep the internet running in the background and at first did a lot of Google search as I did not trust myself especially with meds.  But now I do.  Are you typing in a word program or EMR's as if the EMR's are word based you can load on your Stedman's -- I was doing another type of EMR and could do that.  Otherwise, you can copy and paste onto a laptop that you bring in with the spell check and do it that way.  But again, I started out with a Dictaphone belts, Royal typewrite, then a selectric without correction and then correction capability.  So it can be done, it really makes you think but now when I do my other, I don't have as many mistakes.  Also don't be surprised if there are no expanders.   Good luck.

I want to update my 2000 Stedmans Spellchecker.  Is there a newer version and what would be the best one to get.

Definitely need a spell checker. I use Spellex, very good. (nm)
Word 2007 Spell Checker

Is anyone having a problem with Word 2007 spell checker?  Somtimes it underlines a misspelled word and sometimes it doesn't.  I sent some notes in with quite of few misspelled words.  It is so aggravating.  I have checked all my settings, and it is set up to show misspelled words and grammar mistakes.  I just don't understand why it works one minute but then doesn't work the next.

Best Spell Checker compatible with Vista?
I just bought a new Sony Vaio and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a spell checker that was compatible with Vista for Word 2007.  Are there any out there that are good?
what kind of electronic spell checker to you use? sm

i'm thinking of getting an electronic spell checker, where it will automatically correct your words as you type.  is there such a program?

Your Favorite Medical Spell-Checker?
Does anybody have any suggestions for which medical spell-checker to buy for a Word-based platform? Any suggestions on where to find one cheap that is still thorough? Thanks!
Can anyone recommend Spell Checker for Word 2003?

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced medical spell checker?
I've seen some advertised and the prices vary, and I'm wondering which ones are good. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!
Does Anyone Know of A Good Medical Spell Checker For Word?

I am new to these boards and I am curious If anyone knows of a good medical spell check for Word? TIA :)
I use Sylvan software's medical spell checker and ...am
also their Shortcut word expander. I love both of them. Unfortunately, the spellchecker does not work in DocQscribe, which I work in now. I wish I could get it to because I hate the DocQScribe spellchecker.
Also need good medical spell checker, new system here
because IT person this morning could not install Stedman's and when we contacted the company also told our company using the old version and did not go with my new computer. Anyone help.........

Stedman's @Work
Has anyone suscribed to this?  I noticed they have an abundant amount of sample reports, but I am only considering suscribing if they add new reports on a regular basis.  If anyone has info on this, I would love to hear it!
Stedman's At Work
I just found this site and am amazed at the number of sample reports they provide. Click on view all, and there is a sample operative report for needle-directed excisional right breast biopsy and modified radical mastectomy.

What happened to Stedman's At Work?
You know, the Stedman's online that you had to subscribe to?  I just signed on, and the site said it was being discontinued, and they were no longer accepting subscriptions?  I use this so much!  Does anyone know why it is being discontinued?  Does anyone know of a similar option?
It won't work. Stedman's has to be installed from
the disks.   You can't even copy it a flash drive and then try to install it on another computer.
Anyone ever work as a researcher/editor for Stedman's?
I saw on their website that they welcome you to join their editorial team when they're working on new books.

I was wondering how much they pay and how much work it is.  I'm pretty happy to only have one job for the first time in years, but an occasional short-term project for some extra cash sounds kinda cool.
Thanks. I'm sick that PRD may not work. Stedman's new spellcheck looks like it will

Will the Stedman's work with that version of Word? You buy the basic program and then
Instant Text and Stedman's are compatible. Not sure of any combo products that would work.
I have only used Stedman's. What are some differences in Dorland's and Stedman's?
That only tells the grammar checker to flag spaces. Word does not auto space.
Do not download the Panda titanium software for virus checker and spyware protection. It corrupted
my entire computer, had to have service man fix it to the tune of $150.00.
I can't even spell that! LOL
I am going with Ala. Not sure how to spell her name. nm
6, you would only spell it out....
...is if there are 2 numbers in a row. For instance:

The patient is to take two 10 mg tablets daily.

(NOT 2 10 mg).

Hope this helps.

I spell it that way...
and I am in the US, although I am Canadian. I know in Canada I have seen it spelled both ways.
I know how to spell most and

what I dont' know, I make it a point to learn. I've gotten more than 1 "critical" error from QA stating that I had misspelled a medical term or drug, only to prove that I was correct and QA was wrong. Not to offend any QA'ers, but if you're going to correct someone else's work, you'd better know your stuff.

The one error was even spelled incorrectly by the neurologist dictating: olivopontine cerebellar degeneration. He spelled it out as "oliGopontine", but I spelled it according to Stedman's and proved both him and QA wrong.

Boy, were their faces red! My point wasn't to embarrass anyone, it was to type the report correctly. Spelling is important. We have enough other factors to squelch our line count. If there's anything I can do on my part to bring it up, why not?

What I do is when they say spell it out I put

it in my Expander program, so I can continue typing b.i.d.  I don't have to think about do I or don't I.  Same with contractions - put shouldn't in my expander and if I go into auto drive mode I don't have to worry about missing it.

I have 20 years of experience.  I haven't worked for many companies, but I've had several accounts.  One says do this, the other one is don't differently, and then there is the verbatim, but it isn't really verbatim because we still have to clean it up a bit.   It is hard to switch, plus there alwasy seem to be little things no one has mentioned and isn't in account specifics, etc.  I just got off of 100% QA (4 days), but I felt like I would never get off 100% because it seemed QA found something in almost every report.  It just may be a comma that was/wasn't needed, but it was something.

I also make me a sticky note and put it where I will see it easily when they make a new change.  It takes me maybe 3 days and then I've got it and can toss the sticky.

how about when they spell them
we were on 4.6, but is this a spell
check you build yourself (for the most part) located in the same screen as your email, etc? Don't remember the field number now, 42 or 46? somewhere in there. Had to return through it and virtually scroll down to the word which can take a few minutes. hope I could help.
How do you spell
Does anyone else notice that AHDI and MTIA have the same address??

Kind of suggests to me that they've created 2 seemingly separate entities, one of which is trying to push mandatory certification and the other of which (surprise!!!) just happens to provide the test. How convenient. It's not like they weren't already making a killing on the CMT certification (especially since they've now got potential CMTs lined up around the world). Now The Word has come down from MTIA (their own creation) that certification is mandatory, so theoretically every MT in the US will have to ante up as well or be unemployable. Chicken or the egg; maybe MTIA came first & created AHDI. Either way, pretty soon they'll all be driving Bentleys if they're not already.

It's downright diabolical, & I'm wondering if it's legal.
Can't spell either.
So why should they be any better at counting?
It's not just the PAs that can't spell
I only have a handful of docs that can actually spell meds or instruments or other doctor's names correctly. And I have an RN who can't pronounce ANYTHING! And then she rambles on for 2 pages and will say, new paragraph. LOL! Waaaaay ahead of you, honey.
Is this when you spell check? If so....sm
hit the #4 and the "sound alikes" should come up on the screen you are use to seeing.
Can't spell aleved sm

The patient states his pain is not worsened by anything nor it is aleved by anything.

I checked dictionary.  What am I looking for?  Thanks for helping!!!!!
