We have had 5 Dells.
I think it depends on what kind of warranty aggreement you have.  We had the in-home warranty on all of ours.  On the third one, when it came the CD/ROM cable was not connected properly.  Support talked us through that one.  The fourth one the hard drive crashed a day or two after we bought it.  They sent a guy with a new hard drive.  Otherwise, the only troubles we have had were way after they were out of warranty.  I would not say that they were the best out there.  I guess we have just been lucky.  The only reason we have kept buying them is that at the time we needed a computer, they had the best price.
I have two Dells.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop and another Dell computer provided by my employer. They have been wonderful so far. No problems so I can't tell you about the process.
Happy with both my Dells

I have bought three desktops from Dell over the years with no problems on any of them.  I also upgraded my current Dell desktop instead of buying a new one.  Added new video card and more memory.  Extremely easy to upgrade.  Also have an Inspiron laptop that I love.  Bought all of these over the internet with no problems.  In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a Dell.

I have 2 Dells that I work on.
I use the MS Word in Works Suite. I have Works Suite 2004 on one and Works Suite 2005 on the other. Both have Word 2002.
I have had Dells for years and never had a problem. (nm)

I've got about 5 Dells right now too..Because when one dies,
I get another. We got a laptop 3 years ago and to date it has had every part replaced on it..and I EVERY part..They are not reliable, and although nice and polite, I am not thrilled with their Indian call center. Huge language translation. My husband got a MAC Ibook for Christmas and let me tell you..that thing is amazing..I've never seen anything like it. If it were compatible with my job's software, I'd get one too. No more Dells for me. I'll try something else.
Made by Dell. I have had no problems with any of my laptop or desktop Dells.

Random questions...who does this??
In the middle of a thread talking about whether or not someone should take an hourly shift lead position or stay on production, someone comes in and asks about the going rate for radiology reports???
File...Don't Pile

Hi,

Does anyone have experience using this system by Pat Dorff?  I'm curious specifically about the advantages between and the preference between the A-Z vs. the Prefix method.

Thanks.

random coagulation
There are a bunch of ideas on the board right now. I posted something suggesting we try to come up with an idea for a name of a new organization, something U.S.-identified and specifically non-AHDI-affiliated.

MTAUS (or whatever it was) flew out of my brain, then one person suggested USMTA. USMTA sounds great but is unfortunately not available as a domain name. But before I could respond, someone had taken it upon herself to start a website using USMTA and to write a description of the organization as well as a mission statement, so that's what you are seeing.

My approach would be a little different. My feeling is that things should proceed carefully, somewhat more deliberately, and with a certain amount of planning--making sure the domain name is going to be available and making sure there is a lot of opportunity for people to read each others' comments and give input, since one of the biggest things I have against AHDI is that they have done everything they have done while no one was looking. This easier said than done with a virtual workforce, but I was thinking that getting a name and then possibly a yahoo users' group would be a way to make it interactive and to wean the whole issue off the MTStars board.

I'm just one MT. I've been posting kind of aggressively on this whole AHDI issue for months now, but I'm certainly not in charge of anything. I just made the suggestion that all the energy behind some of the very angry posts about AAMT/AHDI/MTIA be channeled into a new organization, & I put out a call for a name. I think some care is required at the outset. But it's JMHO.

Certainly if anyone wants to jump on the USMTA bandwagon, by all means, have at it. There's no rule that says there can only be one alternative to AHDI.
I may have one. I've got a pile of keyboards and other
computer stuff I'm sorting through, trying to decide what to recycle, what to give to Goodwill, etc.   I'll look tomorrow to be sure and let you know.
random calls/drop ins
People just do not understand. I have just had to be rude without apology. I have had so many people call and even though I don't answer still drop by. I have to say that if I am too busy to answer phone then I am also too busy to go to the door. I have had them stand on the door step ringing the bell and calling my phone. More than once I have answered the phone to someone saying they were at my door. I say, "Oh, is that you ringing my bell? Sorry but I am working". They do not like it but neither do appreciate the disrespect. My friends have just learned to laugh it off. I stick to my guns, even with my family No work, no pay, is what I say.
I have a huge pile of laundry

But I want to buy more clothes because they are having a buy one get the next for $1 at the shopping bug.  They I can have more clothes to wash

Isn't that silly

Random comment: No matter how much I SM

hated a particular company, I would not go out of my way to upset workers for that said company.  What point would that make?

Why upset former co-workers who might have shared samples, given you support, tried to make you feel better when you were down?  I dislike my company, but not my wonderful co-workers.

Can anyone say OUTRAGEOUS! I can think of a pile of things better
on that crummy CMT exam that isn't going to amount to a hill of beans for anyone!  Why do people keep taking it?  The only people who benefit from it sit in the Modesto offices!  Heck, they even rake in the dough off offshore MTs getting "certified." What a big bunch of HOOEY!
What a steaming pile of manure! SM

So am I to assume that anyone who is not a CMT or does not wish to be a CMT are the “imposters” of whom she speaks?  She worry’s less about where her records are being transcribed and more about who is doing the transcription.  I have a question.  Would it be easier for her to run a background check on an MT in India versus an MT in the United States?  Where your medical records are being transcribed directly correlates to who is transcribing your records!  Also, how on earth can the “Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity” keep a watchful eye on the integrity of a person’s medical records when the very HIPAA laws created to insure integrity cannot be enforced on offshore MTs?

Here’s the deal, if the AHDI wants to make credentialing mandatory for MTs, then they need to insure that the American MT salary range is increased to reflect requirement of credentials.  They also need to disavow offshoring in any and every form, and bring the work back to the U.S. where it belongs and where it is protected by HIPAA.  When the AHDI can secure a fair pay range that reflects mandatory credentialing, education, and required HIPAA knowledge and adherence, THEN I will become a CMT again.
Yes, these random QA reports now being done by MQ are being done by QA people that dont even QA the
account and are a pain in the butt. Then they monitor the amount of blanks you have so I will not help out anymore on a new account that needs help because they even monitor those blanks. Who needs this aggravation.
Oh, my!. I HAVE been there, desk in kitchen while dishes pile up and so on.
The little ones, at least, from this distance are happy memories and much missed. It really does get a LOT easier, I promise, and sooner than you can imagine, up over your head in it all as you are. Keep taking lots of deep breaths.
Be honest! If you did not think there were random checks on your reports by QA, would you work
I always strive for excellence in my reports partly due to patient care and then there is my own obsessive-compulsive need to be the best, but having said that, are there those MTs who might not try as hard if they didn't have QA breathing down their necks.  Be honest now.
Yes! Rec'd it in 2 parts ...
Half after 3 months, the other half after 6 more months (when I had been there 9 months). I didn't even have to remind anyone!!!
Replacement

Since I pick up and deliver I need to find replacements locally and my accounts do not realy like to go with anyone else.  If it is less than 3 days they ask that they hold it until I come back, when that is 4 docs it gets a little rushed when I return.  Finally took 3 work days off this summer with a weekend and they said that they would rather wait a day or two for the dictation than get someone else they did not know.   But I do have some back up if it is a week or so but that hasn't been in the past five years.   If I get sick, again they are very considerate and wait for the work.  Have had these 4 accounts for 5 to 15 years so we have a history and they are happy with my work.   So usually if you have been doing their dictation for a while they will work with you for a few days or illness.  I mean, they take vacations and time off and we don't get paid.   Like I have said many times, my accounts are really pretty good to me and but I provide a very good service and some extras and so we treat each other pretty equal.

There is so much anger in all parts of the (sm)
transcription community, that I'm seriously surprised that it hasn't resulted in something really terrible.
Screen in 2 parts, need only 1
let me state over as maybe someone knows how to get out.
4 regularly, parts of 5 more sm
I do only OPs, so I have some free standing surgical centers and a hospital, I do all of those OP notes. It is only about 75 to 100 reports a day with all of that. It sounds like a lot, but I have tons of normals, I am not working all that hard :-).

I have a couple of specialties in OP notes that almost no one else can do, certainly not either of the companies I work for, so I pick up those specialties for an additional 4 facilities with any regularity, but it will be 5 once in a while.

This is not something I exactly asked for, it is just how it has worked out. Having that many different accounts is not for everyone, neither is the fact that I have about 200 different voices regularly, and another 200 once in a while. This is MY comfort zone and I don't recommend it.

Thought it was $350 to take the 2 parts? nm

Did you look for them in Quick Parts? sm
AutoText doesn't work the same way in 2007. They are now part of the Quick Parts building blocks and you no longer get the tip box when you type your names. You can still get them to expand with F3 if you can remember the names. Otherwise, you have to get to them the long way through the Insert menu. Did you look to see if they transferred to Quick Parts? If not, you can rename your old normal.dot and take out any macros, then copy that dot file to the building blocks folder. Do this with Word closed. They should be there when you reopen Word.
They are in Quick Parts! Wow!
Now, I have to just learn how to use them!! lol
I need a sample hip replacement...thanks nm

I had a knee replacement....SM
five years ago. Worst experience of my life. I took narcotic pain meds for about two months, then switched to Advil and Aleve. It takes quite a while for all the pain to go away. Miserable surgery.
Star's replacement...
I like Gayle King (Oprah's BFF), so I hope this rumor's true.  Rosie, Gayle, and Joy should make a nice combo.  I may actually start watching The View again!
Thank you. I didnt know if there were a lot of parts to assemble.

Selling body parts in the US sm
There was a brief mention of a recent arrest (I believe it was in New York) of a phony business set-up involving funeral homes, etc., selling bone grafts, etc. from dead bodies (one was supposedly Allistair Cook's body of the PBS fame) and replacing these parts with PVC piping in some cases. These people made "millions" and the patients/families had to be notified. One man was practically crying because he had been told he has to be tested every 6 mos. for HIV, hepatitis, etc., since he had a recent surgery on his neck. They said it may not present itself for years in some cases. They showed some gentlemen being led away in handcuffs but the story was cut short. Anyone else know about this travesty and why so little else has been said about it or is there any web site, etc., that explains it in more detail? Would like to know morel I am very concerned for the recipients as well as the unbeknownst-to-them "donor" families.
You misunderstood my whole post (probably the way I did it - in 2 parts)

Here is what I mean.  I learned in 1965 with no training.  Then several years later, someone told me I was spelling Fahrenheit wrong.  Now fast forward to 2006.  I've been doing this for 30-40 years, very few medical spelling errors, and NOW is when my company nitpicks.

Just like trying to buy original factory parts for a -(sm)
Ford truck that is more than 5 or 6 years old! The dealership's reasoning: 'Most people replace their trucks every 2 or 3 years.' Why tout them as being 'Ford tough' and as lasting for decades, if you can't buy parts for them after 5 years? Geezz.......

I agree 100% with your conspiracy/survivalist/money-making tactic for AAMT. No BOS was ever needed 'til they came along and said it was.........
There are no safe parts of the country
Yours would be no different than mine. I watch news on TV and cannot believe when I hear someone say, I just cannot believe it happened in this neighborhood. Ridiculous! When I had children at home, no I paid for everything. I also worked my behind off - away from home by the way- because years ago, OMG, they actually had you to come into an office! I had no one to help me out. I did not start working from home until about 2005 so very doubable and I worked 2 jobs for years to make a living.
Training your replacement isn't your job. Period. nm

how do you use DA 127D c phone replacement?
I thought I was buying a regular old clunky c phone. I can't get the foot pedal to respond or find out how to play out loud. Help please.
Menopause and hormone replacement. sm

I am 3 years from my last period and have refrained from taking hormones because of a family history of breast and uterine cancer in my mother.  I have not felt well for some time and have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.  My GYN thinks that bio-identical hormones would make me feel more myself but I have been reluctant to take them.  For those of you taking hormones..do they make you feel a lot better?  Thanks for any advice.

hormone replacement therapy
I have been on Premarin 1.25 mg since my 20's (surgical induced menopause) and on 0.9 mg for the past few years, am 53 and have absolutely no menopausal symptoms and no side effects of any kind. It is worth it.
Not sure how you feel about hormone replacement, sm

but it might be something to consider.  I went through menopause relatively early, and I had horrible hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, etc.  I remember once I received an email from my boss asking me to spend the day working on my secondary account, and I sat here crying, knowing that what she really meant was that I wasn't good enough to work on my primary account.  Looking back, it is funny, but it was not so funny then.  I felt like I was going crazy.

I finally broke down and saw an OB/GYN.  She is an advocate of natural hormone replacement, but gave me a book to read about it and in the meantime gave me estrogen patches and progesterone pills, and it was a godsend.  I got through the tough times, and now I take nothing.

It sounds like you have a lot going on, and if you could get rid of the menopausal symptoms, maybe you could see things a bit more clearly and address those issues as well.  It is tough to uproot your life and move away from friends and family.  My heart goes out to you.

Good luck to you.  It will get better.

replacement covers for earphones
Does anyone know where I can get replacement covers for my earphones?  I am using a Pearlcorder microcassette machine and they are small?
you must be new it these parts. search the archives. besides that we can't afford to QA QA.
We're on production. You?
It is cheaper for members. Only one test but 2 parts.

C-phone foot pedal replacement
Thanks...I had made a crude connection myself with electrical tape years ago for a higher volume without the headset, but it didn't work too well. The one from Radio Shack may work much better. I'm sure the sound recorder would have shortcut keys for fast-forward and rewind, but I'm not sure where to find sound recorder on Windows Professional. I'll try to find it now and make a shortcut on the desktop. Thanks again!
MT work after total knee replacement
I'm having a left total knee replacement next week and was just wondering if any one out there has had this done and if so, in what time frame did you return to transcription.  thanks.
I got a replacement spring at my hardware store .... sm
take your remaining spring as a sample for the gauge ... i had to buy one a foot long, irrc, and cut it with scissors but I think it cost under $2. you might call around to save time ... I used an "old time" amazing local hardware store but I suspect my local Ace hardware would have something too .. (but doubt home depot or Lowes would) ...

There are several reasons I have half a dozen "dead" keyboards in my shed ... and this is one ... I think later models weren't made with this "feature" (the spring under tension poppping out and impossible to find feature, that is) ;-)
Prince looked good for having a hip replacement...LOL...nm

sorry, that first line should read AFTER a knee replacement. nm

those whole roasted chickens or fried chicken parts
you buy in grocery store are chickens that the sale dates is very close to expiring, so they cook them and avoid throwing them away. I like my meat a little fresher than on the border of rotting time.
