The cost of running a private school or any school is expensive....
Why do you think public schools are so run down and can't find good teachers?  Because the government and people to not put forth the effort or $$$$ to improve the educational system.
I would see about a private school.....

Your son sounds like a very bright young man... No offense to you, but can you honestly challenge him and teach him things you may not be proficient at yourself.  Foreign languages, advanced math, etc.  Even high school teachers only specialize in one subject.  Something to consider.

I did that with 2 kids with time mgmt and a high school girl who babysat 3 days a week after school
nm
Private School here for mine.

nm

It depends. In the inner city, I'd say private school.
Although it's a noble effort to shield them from potentially bad situations, that's how we all learned how to conduct ourselves in a social situation, to choose friends wisely, and to sharpen our "people" skills.

Keeping them at home does nothing but smother them and is a control freak issue IMO. You're not doing them any favors.

My kids both attended our local public school and are now college educated professionals who have many friends, some of whom they've known since elementary school. If you can make it in public school you can make it anywhere. It's a microcosm of society and the natural way to learn skills that will serve you throughout your lifetime.
I don't have kids, but my Mom was from the "old school," and still had everyone, kids inclu

call her by her first name.  The little neighbor girl next door from the time she could speak called her Aggie (my mom's first name), and they were great buddies until the day my mom pased away.

I don't think there really is much in a name, but more in the respect you are given and the way you are treated.   Personally, I kind of cringe inside when someone calls me Ms. Anything or God forbid, "maam" (makes me feel like Methuselah!) ... I'm always just plain Merrie.  :-)

But, as someone pointed out, to each his own.  If you want to be addressed a certain way, you have that right, and people should respect that.  I'm glad you corrected the child ... hope it "sticks."

Don't know how many kids in your school..sm

when my child was in high school there were 3000 kids - 2 security officers and perhaps one cop (big huge city) - NOT ENOUGH TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN.  Guns and knives were waiting with perp kids across the street from the public school buses, near the city buses....lots of knifings.......pulled my kid out and had her finish up elsewhere....where they did care about kids.......

Like I said elsewhere - if they (authorities) don't care about our kids, they don't care about our/their future either.......

:(((

have your kids gone back to school yet? if so, where are you at...
if not, when do they go back and where are you at?  This is strictly out of curiosity, everyone, no ulterior motives here! I'm in GA and mine went back yesterday...think it's WAY too early to go back.  They were only out for nine weeks!
No way would my kids be in regular school
It was bad enough years ago when I was in public school, but nowadays with all the drugs, sex, guns, knives, etc., in school, there is no way any kids of mine would be in a public school. I remember my study hall when the kids were totally out of control and the teacher was afraid of them-- it sure isn't any better now. If I could not afford a private school, you'd better believe they would be home schooled.
Kids schedules outside of school....sm

It's amazing to me how many parents push their kids to the extreme with extracurricular activities.   I saw a cousin this weekend and her 2nd grader is taking 4 dance lessons (4-1/2 hours a week), an acting class (1 hour)  is in some special gifted program that meets 1 hour after school each week and is in the church kid's choir on Wednesdays.   This means this 7-year-old has 7-1/2 hours of extracurricular activities scheduled.

I told her that my 6-year-old chooses 1 activity to participate in outside of church kids choir (meets on Sunday) and that's all she does.

What about your kids if you have them?  If you have your child scheduled in a lot of things aren't you worried that they will burn out?  I've recently read stories that a lot of kids that are overscheduled are getting depressed and I can see why.

As long as you have someone with the kids after school and can

I can't wait for school to start either, and I don't even HAVE kids!! nm

I don't need to know anything about it. My kids functioned fine in school
and let them have friends of their own choosing rather than manipulate their lives for them.
I do not know about her school but next Tues. when my kids start the first day they get out at 9:50
x
Absolutely would - however, I have to wait until my 2 kids are out of school
and off to college! I always wanted to be a traveling Transcriptionist with K-Force. I have 3 more years to wait and off I will go to a traveling transcription position.

I, however, love change and get bored fairly quickly. So, I would prefer the shorter assignments from place to place - 3 years is too long in one place for me!

Good luck to you!
I believe it is next Monday, the 19th, as the kids have off school for it.

POLL - Are you read for your kids to go back to school? (sm)
Yes and no is the answer for me.  I love them home with me (11 and 13), but am ready to have the nice quiet house to myself for work.
Driving my kids to school. Heard it on the radio, Bob and Tom. sm
I never heard them be more serious than that day.  The whole day is still bright in my mind.  I remember everything that happened, where I was and what I did.  I will never forget it.
Our school has good scores but my kids have never been stressed

Probably depends on the teachers and the corporate culture at your school.

2000 lines everyday but one since my kids went back to school.
I can finally get back on a routine and get some work done. Now, if I could just stay off of MTstars! LOL.
No, usually it's just winding up as all the kids bring home crud from school.
The 4th of July is slow.  Christmas is never slow for me.
Veteran's day. Kids are out of school. Many doctor's offices are closed.
dd
The kids' "holiday" programs at school were full of African and
Hanukkah music, but there wasn't an African or Jewish person in the gymnasium. Everything else was nondenominational. What I want to know is why the minorities have the majority vote? Shouldn't there be an equal amount of Christmas music?
Me, too. I told my kids that since they're not in school and I'm working two jobs
just to try to keep the utilities on, they get to do chores. Don't even get me started on holiday stress. My extended family sent me gift cards, so I'm using those to buy for the kids. I even offered to pay them $5 an hour for cleaning so they'd have Christmas money. Instead, what are they doing? Watching TV in their pajamas still. That's OK. I'm about to go unplug all the electronics in the house and give them a big chore list with NO pay.
Well, 1 day back to school for the kids, and now they come hom with a stomach virus! Geez.

How frustrating - 1 day in school and now a "bug".  We had this in our house before the holidays.  Everyone in the family had a turn with it, and now again!  I think antiseptic and antibacterials are needed in these schools.   Can't afford to be down for even 24 hours!

Just needed to vent my frustration here - my poor kiddies!

My sons are born again too and their wives can't leave the house, home school the kids, no tv,
and if my DIL wanted to work, it is out of the question. One of my sons just believes in having babies and having babies. They now have 5. I divorced his dad and apparently his dad taught them this is the American way. I just feel so bad for both my sons' wives. They both are born again and both live their life that way.
Honestly, I send my kids to public school. They've never had a belly ache either.

must you be so full of yourself?

POLL: Home School vs. Charter School vs. Public School vs. Priv ate School...
Pros and cons of each too. I have two little ones that will be starting school soon and I would like opinions on all. Thanks in advance! :)
When the kids started school I wanted a job in my home town. A hospital clerk position (sm)
came open. You started compiling charts, making copies, etc. Then I was promoted after a few months and began learning transcription and did that part of the day. Then a few months later they taught me coding and abstracting and I did that part of the day. It was a great learning experience to learn things from the bottom up. Needless to say, I am an old dog here who has been doing this more than 25 years now.

Here's the deal. If someone is a Christian,
and they have been saved, the will go to heaven no matter what. Just read John 3:16. That is all there is to it, simple as that. You don't think that Jesus would have made it complicated, do you? If He had, we would all be going to hell.

(Mark Twain said he didn't want to go to heaven because he didn't like harp music.)

Christian too; he will change perhaps...sm

in the next life, perhaps in the next transition...but for you to think he's going to change in this life 30 years later.....I think you're dreaming, just my opinion, not etched in stone.

Also, I believe religion has nothing to do with this topic of decades-old substance abusers!  I think when having discussions such as these - we all need to leave our religions out of it (for at LEAST 10 minutes) ....because again, I think we/some tend to reach for our crutches (religions, if fanatics and cannot hold a regular old conversation for 10-20 minutes, such as how my ex became).

Please don't think that I'm sitting here with my hands all neat, pretty, tidy/clean regarding these many issues in any of these many areas, either in my former family (mom/sister/dad, etc.) or the marriage that I dumped, but today I'm a different person, have learned MUCH about people and their behavior(s) and men, in particular.

You're going to do what you want to do - just whatever you do - advise making real sure your eyes and head are being completely open minded about the issue(s).

Good luck to you, it sounds like you have made your choices.  Be well.  Happy July 4th!

How do you know they said a Christian prayer?
It is very possible that both the patient and physician are Muslims. You are only assuming it was Christian prayer and getting your panties in a knot based on that assumption.
Christian prayer
I know because I know the docs personally. I am a paramedic and have also worked as a nurse in several docs offices.
I agree about the Christian stuff

I dont know if that was necessarily why she got booted last night, but it was very obvious that LAST WEEK when she did sing the Christian song, that the judges just didnt get it.  I was so proud of her for showing her faith to the world and not worrying about it being "popular" or not.

John 3:21

I'm not a dreamer. I'm simply a Christian
woman praying for her husband and believing that he will be changed.
What does being a Christian have to do with Halloween? see message

Your Halloween Party sounds fun!!!  I was thinking about doing one for my 6-year-old, having the kids dress up.

But I do have to ask, just because you are a Christian does not mean you can't celebrate Halloween.  In fact, you ARE celebrating "Halloween", just on a different day.  I understand the meaning of Halloween isn't the best, however, that is the day that is set aside and Halloween has been totally commercialized anyway, so it is not like I am sitting at home worshiping un-Christian like things or trying to be a witch.  Do you see what I mean?  I am not trying to be mean, I too am a Christian, but we do take the kids out on Halloween.

You know, good question. I really don't know. I have been a Christian for sm
10 years. Before that, I LOVED Halloween and would go trick or treating right along there with all the devils and everything! j/k Then, met my husband who has been a Christian all his life, attended Baptist churches, and he told me that they just don't celebrate it at all. Couldn't give me a clear-cut reason why...so, we get married and for 4 years (before we had kids) we didn't participate in Halloween. I would get so mad at him because he would get mad at me for spending 20.00 on Halloween candy and then he wouldn't let me pass it out! He'd turn the outside lights off, but if the kids came anyway he'd let me pass out candy. Then we had kids and for a few years he still wouldn't let me celebrate. It wasn't until his sister 3 years ago invited us trick or treating (and he didn't want my kids to dress up!). But, they had minimal costumes on and they were in absolute AWE of Halloween. The lights, the CANDY, the trick or treating.

Fast forward to today. He's "okay" with it, but still clearly uncomfortable. You don't understand, I have been absolutely mesmerized by the whole "Martha Stewart," "Katie Brown" entertaining thing since my late teens, early 20s. Obesessed. My first year of marriage, my husband was at work and I watched the very first Martha Stewart when she went and decorated the White House (an evening special). I cried during the whole thing. I thought everything she did was absolutely breathtaking. I LOVED her creativity, the colors, everything. I swore that I would have "that kind of life some day." I wanted it ALL. The cheesy cupcakes, the Pottery Barn decor, all of it. I learned to cross stitch, woodwork, paint, stencil, flower arrange, you name it, I can pretty much do it. I can lay tile. That's one I haven't gotten down yet.

So, now that you my entire sad life story, you know where all of this partying comes from. I can linger for HOURS over Southern Living magazines, Southern Living At Home magazines. My home pretty much shows it. I have good taste, but that's inbred in me.

A designer once told me that I was a Tuscany, French-Country person....WHATEVER! Just give me some hot chocolate, 5 Southern Living magazines, and a babysitter, and I could die right there.

So, my motto: JUST PARTY WITH A PURPOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Witch
I'm a Christian, I don't celebrate Halloween but
I do have a harvest carnival for my friends kids. They love it and every year it's bigger than the year before.
Halloween has Christian origin. Please sm

Christian chat room
Is there any christian chat rooms for medical transcriptionists?  I thought I saw one about a month ago and now I cannot remember the name of it.
Thanks, I hope something comes up / Christian Troy?
Just Google his name (Julian McMahon) and a lot of sites come up. I have a lot of pics of him saved on my computer. My secret obsession. LOL.
oh yeah, tolerate everything except what is Christian
FYI, before my last major surgery, i asked my surgeon if he was a praying man. I am sure you are clueless as to the why -- but for those who DO believe in the Almighty, the why is well understood. and why pray tell (pun intended) are you looking for a RULE ???? How about a rule to tolerate Christianity the way we are asked to tolerate every other belief system?
Don't you feel guilty for being a white Christian?
Geez, you're responsible for everything that's wrong with this country - don't you know that?

That's what the sentiment in this country is anyway. You're only allowed to diss someone's culture, language, religion, etc. if they are of European Caucasian origin.

We have nothing to feel guilty about. If other cultures are jealous or resentful of us, that's their issue to deal with. We had nothing to do with their feelings of inadequacy for whatever reason they may have them.

I'm sick of having to coddle minorities who clearly hate us anyway.

So condescending and so insulting.
THANK YOU. It is becoming increasingly hard these days to be a Christian with this idea of
every religion is okay and we can all be one attitude.  They make us sound like just because we believe the truth and say there is only one God and one way to Heaven (Jesus) that we are judgmental, prejudice and closed-minded to diversity.
Rosa Parks was also a God fearing Christian woman!
i
It is that "reborn Christian" thing where they go overboard and make new rules LOL
Im Wiccan...I love this season and there is always a festival in our home at every season celebrating nature!!
Do little kids like caramel? My big kids won't even eat it! We make the basic Baker's chocolat
s
I never said you shouldn't have kids! Feeling guilty? I asked WHY you had kids.
You clearly stated in your post that you ship the kids off to camp all day, and they're TIRED AT NIGHT!!  You know exactly what you said.  You said it as a PERK - AS IN GREAT! They're gone all day, it wears them out, and so I shovel dinner in their mouths and off to bed!  You can try to paint it any way you want, but YOU SAID IT.  Again, I only hope your kids never hear you speak that way or write that way. Shame on you.  Why have kids at all?  Just another parent who has them, gets rid of them for day AND night, BRAGS ABOUT IT, and then calls ME wicked!  Give me a break!  Camp is fine - its WHAT YOU SAID AND YOU KNOW IT.  Your own words showed your heart. Period.
