Middle Eastern Arabic people do not celebrate Christmas nor the Jewish people (and Chanukah comes early 12/3 this year so they should be working.  Russian Christmas is in January.  The Hispanic community as well as the French communities here in the USA, as I know it, certainly do celebrate Christmas.  Happy Holidays To All....

I think Spanish and French are the worst, (sm)
and I even took French. But they have an annoying way of dropping out all recordable sound and just doing something with their lips that a recorder can't pick up at the end of some words that is very annoying.

I have enjoyed British, but every newbie should be warned about their "stop" and "full stop" for punctuation, LOL.
Merry Christmas (or whatever you may celebrate)!!!!

well time to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas...
and please dont get me wrong... i know these times are hard for everyone and i hope your work picks up or you find a job that helps... but regarding the holidays... so many of us (myself included) have made this a buy buy buy holiday. I'm been so upset this year because I have bought barely ANY gifts but I simply cannot afford them. So then I realized, it is time for family and togetherness, as generic as that sounds... life is short... it's not about "things" it's about people. And I'm not super religious, but this is a good video below.
good luck on work!

Why even answer if you don't celebrate?
I think you owe the OP an apology for that outburst. She even said "for those who do" and didn't seem to be ASSUMING anything. Easter is far from a "Hallmark" holiday. It has deep spiritual and religious meaning to those of us who believe in Christ as our savior and it's very offensive when you say it is celebrated only for the benefit of American manufacturers. On the contrary, I think there are precious few American manufacturers who will stand up for anything Christian these days, even if it is their personal belief.

Sounds like you are jaded and I think that's sad. If you do not believe in Easter, why not just ignore the post? She has a right to her beliefs and she has a right to post them, same as you. If you posted pagan information or whatever it is you believe in (since you are PaganMT, I figure it's pagan beliefs), I would just skip over that post and not even read it since that is not my belief. Why couldn't you do the same for her? Perhaps you are not so sure about your own beliefs and that's why you become so defensive. You also appear to know very little about Easter and why it is celebrated other than for eggs and bunnies so perhaps you should look into the true meaning of Easter before you speak again on the subject.
I'm a Christian, I don't celebrate Halloween but
I do have a harvest carnival for my friends kids. They love it and every year it's bigger than the year before.
Skip Christmas Day and do drinks/snacks Christmas
Eve and spend a peaceful Christmas doing whatever it is you want to do.  If you're all of 47 years old you're evidently a slow learner  : )
I don't celebrate and/or believe in Kwanza, Hanukkah, Ramadan, etc.
just not tolerate enough to let "a minority" stop me from celebrating my religious holidays!
I don't celebrate Hallmark holidays. If they forget...(nt)

This is a U.S. holiday so the ESLs don't normally celebrate it at home anyway, so
that is why there are so many working on holidays IMO.
Any good ideas to celebrate 50th Birthday
A friend and co-worker turns 50 next Tuesday and we are planning a 1950s celebration here at work.We are gonna dress in poodle skirts and jeans and t-shirts, etc., but I'm looking for something else... maybe a unique poem..or any unique ideas?  Anybody have any tips?  TIA!
Spanish b@tt doctor
Lovely job working for a Spanish gastroenterologist who's wife was the office manager and enjoyed called office help stupid in Spanish and I was responsible for making sure gloves and lube were stocked---no kidding, this was apparently in the fine print somewhere when I signed on (probably in Spanish).
Spanish accents. sm
I worked on an account out of San Diego once, heavily thick Spanish (Mexican), brilliant docs, but very difficult.  I work on an account in FL now, still Spanish but Cuban and very, very different.  Those of you who say you don't do accents, try another field.  This job is all about dialects and learning and hanging in there.  If you are pompous enough to say, "you don't do this or that", bet your pay reflects it.

Clarification:  You probably still make good $$$$ if you are the perpetual cherry picker.  I hate cherry pickers, that is cheating, lying and stealing.  Most managers even those Rhit sort of people, do not realize how much cherry picking hits those of us in the pocket who do any job assigned.  I hope all cherry pickers rot in hello.
One of the Spanish docs says

Goes both ways. I have a hard time with tenses when speaking Spanish. :)

I think French just might be
my least favorite accent. Despite my French teacher bragging about what excellent speakers the French are, never saying um, just having fast flowing speech, when dictating in English, the ones I've done have had some serious stammering, poor enunciation, extra words, and many unexplained word choice changes, and it's all I can do not to scream and grind my teeth the moment I hear that accent.

I'd love to tell my snotty French teacher that, too.

French!

French for me too.

You must be French or something because it is

The French sounding name in other words
it was not like I was a Jones or Smith, you know, simple sounding every day names and if you have worked as long as I have in this business, I have seen dictators get a chart mixed up with another, not that it happens often. That was the reason for my saying it - he could not have mistaken my dictation for a Ms. Smith or Ms. Jones....
French 1st Language dictators

My take is that you are both correct and mistaken.  People with French as their mother tongue can be both challenging and reliable to transcribe in English. The challenging part is the omission of certain sounds that are normal to the English-attuned ear.  The reliable part is that the differences one hears are usually SO predictable.  I belive that with more info I can help you even with your specific problem.

Autocorrect turned french!

Out of no where my autocorrect is french!  Anyone know how to turn this off??

It just seems like something always happens right before Christmas.
We both just had job changes due through no fault of our own. We basically had a month of no income there. Oh, but everyone has to have the annual Christmas drawing. Can't let us off the hook even if I have to hock my wedding band. OK, so I'm in a pity party mood today.
Christmas
I was just telling my kids the other day how I miss saying Merry Christmas this time of year and really do not like Happy Holidays!  So I have started saying it again. I have no problem with other celebrations this time of year so why do we Christians have to change because of it.  Being politically correct is not always best for what is in your heart.  So, on that note Merry Christmas to everyone!
Christmas

Thanks, Sheri, for your uplifting message. It is, after all, CHRISTmas--not Happy Holidays like so many merchants around here are saying. It seems that they are benefiting from all the customers purchasing CHRISTmas gifts, don't you think?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to All!

Christmas sm
This profession has taught me to celebrate life, no matter what. I am tolerant of all views. I happen to celebrate Christmas and I think we should all join together. Is everyone Irish on St. Patrick's Day? Come on, lighten up and enjoy, enjoy, celebrate life.
Thanks! Now I know what to get Mom for Christmas!
