thinking of leaving too
My hands are always killing me and i'm not as focused as I used to be. Plus i'm in school and having something going on the side.  But I need to keep a full time job, so i've been looking in the local papers in the health care sections.  CNAs make 8 bucks an hour!!!  Geez, we get paid more than actual caregivers, but my hand pain is so out of control I may have to take a caregiver job or get certified as a CNA or nutrition specialist and take a pay cut.
I have never worked in a situation like this, but my thinking is --sm
if you are working, getting above the mininum required, and even getting the incentive rate you have nothing to worry about. If for some reason a report takes longer than 'they' think it should, you should document why. You sound like an extremely good worker so you should have an idea of how long each report should normally take and document anything that puts you over that time limit--research/difficult doctor/whatever.

The management may just be justifying their jobs. I agree with your take on leaving high producers alone and dealing with the others individually. Good luck.
Leaving home & Family
I appreciate your comments and respect your opinion, but it would probably be wise to have all of the information before you make an assumption.

Obviously, the five MTs I was coming out to train had all applied, agreed to the IC status, pay rate, and agreed to attend the training at a hotel conference room that was a 20 minute drive for them. They were aware the training would take a minimum of two days to get familiar with us, all of the software we use, and to answer whatever questions they had. We anticipated being in the room perhaps 4 to 6 hours, depending on individual need.

The fact that one showed up, one called and canceled that morning, and three simply did not show, did not call. That was the basis of the "frustration" note.

Remote training is possible, and it's fairly simple to do, but if I spend several hours on the phone with five individuals answering the same questions for each, we have found it easier at times to go to a central location if we are hiring a group from the same general area. It gives them a chance to actually meet who they will be working with, as well as open up a new cell of networking MTs who would probably never meet each other.

Naturally, there are some people who are very computer literate who can virtually "train" themselves. Others are not, and with the opportunity to ask questions while you are actually learning can be benificial.

I do quite a bit of remote training and, in fact, was a trainer for our audio platform for several years at hospitals, clinics and other services all over Canada and the US. However, as a service owner, I also enjoy actually meeting face to face the transcriptionists who work with us. I have some that I've not had a chance to meet in person who have worked out beautifully and are just as much our family team as those I've met.

At any rate, thanks for your opinion.

I was thinking about this situation with companies that hire people and then there is no work. When
you think about that, that is about as low as anyone can get to just run people out of work for whatever reason when people need money to live, pay bills, support children and feed them, etc. When you really think about that, people's lives hinge on their income and as far as I am concerned, that is the worst thing any company can due to the people that work for them. That is how I feel today because I have been out of work and scrounging for lines and I am disgusted with the whole business. I hope that companies will soon wake up and stop doing this to people. It is disgusting.
Thinking of getting into MT @ home, please help!
Hello Everyone!

I am thinking of getting into MT at home and going through the Career Step Platinum Program to get started.

I have no clue if I am doing the right thing, I have researched and sometimes it seems like it's a good career choice and sometimes not!!

I see both the pros and cons posted in various places.

I suppose I worry about outsourcing and having voice recognition take over so that no one will need transcriptionists anymore

Does anyone use voice recog. to aid them in their transcription? It would seem like a quicker way to get things done, but remember I am starting at square one here wiht very little info and would appreciate ANY and ALL that someone could give me!!

Thank you in advance!

They are invented no such MD exists
!
That is an oxymoron. No such thing exists.
asdf
Why would you take offense? It is the real world and it exists.

It is not meant to be offending to anyone, just an honest statement made by someone.  Everyone grew up differently with different values and "prejudices" handed down to them, or "on them", and we as adults see that and try to correct it.   Prejudice is learned, and I for one am learning how not to be prejudice!

What middle class? No longer exists. sm
Just two classes now.
LOL I'm wonderin if this word even exists! 24 of you have looked at post and none can help? :) n

St. Agnes High School, Rochester, NY, sadly no longer exists
Hail to St. Agnes High, we sing to thee, school days are bright and fair, our hearts fill with glee to know (something, something, and then best line) white speaks of purity, womanhood's jewel (etc., etc.)
Trash
Are they dumping the stuff in their yards? If so, call their landlords. We had this problem and I would just call over and over until it was cleaned up.
Right. You are offered their trash, but not $1K.
They're willing to help you as long as you lower yourself. Just pure head games. And some parents would love to see their kids homeless for a chuckle. Makes no sense to me - mine were the same. They were so jealous that my husband and I stuck it out and made our marriage work, are still in love after 30+ years with great kids. When we ran into 1 bump in the road and needed a tad of help, they sat and laughed in our faces, even their innocent grandkids. You just never know what goes in some peoples' minds. Only count on yourself and God, literally. I'm here for you!!
Don't Trash MslaMT!

Oh, please, please! unless you know what you are talking about.....and by this I mean first-hand knowledge and not going by personal feelings....do not judge another by what they say or how they take care of their dog.

Debarking, shock collars, and citronella collars all have their place. What has happened to just plain ole' put the dog in the house? If the owners are at work and the dog cannot be trusted alone, a crate works wonders! Dogs generally bark a lot because they are lonely and/or bored.

The dog is not to blame, the OWNERS are.

BTW, MslaMT, when a dog is debarked, the voice box is not removed. Tissue in the vocal cords are reduced either by a surgical incision or laser. This reduction only changes the pitch of the bark, it does not eliminate it. The dog can still bark and he/she can bark to their heart's content....they have no idea they've had a procedure done, all they know is that they are not being told to shut up it. Their bark can come back over time, but this is not the norm.

I wouldn't trash you....sm
It is a built-in word Expander for Dictaphone EXText platform. Any ideas why people use both?
definite trash. ewwwwwwwwww. nm

Speaking of Kenny Chesney, is anyone thinking what I am thinking? see message
When I hear the words, "annulment" and "fraud" in the same sentence, I can only think of one thing.  Anybody else thinking the same thing?
nobody looked down on you that you know of specifically but there is that "trailer trash"
mentality the general public thinks about trailer people. You have heard the jokes.
Helps to do some research before you trash folks

Not at all typical!

Typical....

Your bad behavior has to be tolerated  and  the heck with everybody else.  Another example of bad manners.

That's typical VR
I promise this was an actual sentence. The doctor dictated, "This is Dr. Wilson Period." Of course, we know that should be plugged into the demographics screen.

What VR transcribed was, "This is Dr. Wilson Perianal."

LOL. Yeah, one day it will be perfect. That's funny!!!
I don't have a typical day, one day I can do 2500

lines in about 12 hours and another day I'm lucky to get 1000 in 8 hours.   I have an expander, have a few templates but don't get those dictators on a regular basis.  I do NOT have to enter any demographic information or look up addresses, etc.   I  work in batches, don't have to save each report separately.  I have enough experience that I rarely have to work up anything, but also will spend 30 minutes searching for something rather than leave a blank.

I get up frequently.  I try to apply myself for at least a good hour or more and then take a short break.  My feet swell really bad and I'm getting butt spread so I try to get up and move around.  I never thought I was a particularly fast typist, but did the time clock thing and found that I was averaging 270+ lines/hour.  Some days I work 6 hours/day, some days 8 to 10.  I may have a superduper day where I make 3000 lines/day, but the next day I only do 1000, because I just can't routinely do 3000 lines/day and have a life.

The thing that has helped me most is limiting my time on-line and having my e-mail so that I can't see/hear when a new one comes up so I don't stop typing and check e-mail.

I routinely do 85+% ESL, but maybe once a month get a day where I have lots of normals and that spoils you.

But this is not your typical dictation

I usually do 30 minutes in 45 minutes to an hour also but this is something completely different and it almost gets to the point you pull your hair out when you cannot hear what they are saying during this meeting or several talk at once, etc.  So you cannot use this rule of thumb -- believe me I have been there many times.

Again I would guess between 8 to 12 hours and feel good if you get it done in 8.

Typical media; what do they know.
nm
Yep, but that's typical for a national.

QA typical per line pay

I am thinking about changing over to QA but am wondering what the pay per line normally starts out at.  Can anyone give me some help.

Sounds like a typical guy..)) n/m

I do not think that 8 hour a day supervisor is typical at all.

Typical welfare mentality, just sit with
your hand out and do nothing to help yourself. Let the taxpayers take care of you. Never take any responsibility for your own welfare or the welfare of your family, just collect the welfare bounty that everyone else pays taxes to provide. Why shouldn't people be prepared?
Typical care about no one else mentality
Typical me..me..me, dont care about the rest of the people, lock me and my family await in a gated community and who cares about anyone else mentality.  God help you if you are ever the victim of a disaster and did not have the time or money to buy supplies.  I sure hope every one around you has your attitude and you feel the pain of hunger and thirst..Hello, America, where are you?
Dottie, maybe you could take a typical page of
how much you're currently making per page on cpl basis.  If it's more than $2.50, you'll lose money working for the insurance company.
A $300+ bill is typical for us in Arizona. sm

We use the payment plan so our bill is the same every month. They average all 12 months and come up with a month payment.  Our winter bills usually would be as low as $70 if we weren't on the payment plan.

Can't live here without AC - no way, no how.

What are the typical hours for 1st, 2nd, 3rd shifts ... sm

Interesting and typical. Accept responsibility for nothing
He's a loser
You are a hypocrit. You attack me for my position and then say you have a right to yours. Typical.
I did not attack anyone, just stated an opinion.  You have been up and down this thread attacking every single person for posting something you don't like.  Talk about pot-kettle-black.  LOL!!!  Well, my last post to you. You are seriously cyberderanged.
No, it is not typical. Please search for a company that respects you more than that. nm
