Andrews School or M-TEC online are excellent courses. See inside.
If you complete one of those courses, you should have no trouble finding a job working from home. They are a bit more expensive than some of the other courses, but MANY companies will waive their 2 years' experience requirement for grads of those two schools. Do not be suckered in by cheaper schools, MT companies know which schools supply good training and which ones don't.
community college. those online courses/schools are not very good and
very expensive.

but don't do it just to work at home.
How and where did you get it for free? Online you have to pay for it, and in stores you have to pay
We've used it the past 3 years and it could not be processed and sent w/o paying. Now, we could go through the motions, answer all the questions, and get the final result without paying, but to actually electronically file and receive our refund, that is when it asks for payment. So how'd you get yours free?
Is there a free online counseling service?

My daughter, who is 33, is married with 1 child - every time something goes wrong in her marriage or job, she calls me and I'm supposed to solve all her problems.  I have asked her repeatedly to go to a counselor, but usually when she calls, it is in the evening.  By the next day or Monday, the problem has gone away temporarily and then she doesn't get the help she needs again.

Does anybody know if online counseling is available that is free, other than this message board ?   I guess I'm thinking of someone with an actual degree?

You can get free sample reports online. I would try
try the SUM program ones. You could probably find those on ebay too.

Op reports are just something that comes with time. Your employer should provide you with samples or you can ask for some.
I would be willing to give a free class online on using Shorthand
and a few other shortcuts if someone can find a chat-type room where this could be done.  I cannot access the MTChat on MTdesk, reason unknown other than I have never been able to obtain a password for that site.  This would be directed toward beginning to intermediate users and would be more of a question/answer session than total lecture situation.
Does anyone know if there's a free Dictaphone ExText instruction manual online somewhere? nm

Florida Universities

Happen to know of a University in Florida that sounds like Wetger's or Wetcur?  I cannot find anything remotely close.

Apparently the colleges/universities have the
same problem with parenteral interference.  It has gotten to be a big issue.  So many are trying to control every aspect of the student's life, apparently made worse by the cell phones, unlimited calling, etc.
My DH is a Service Engineer, installs/services electron microscopes at hospital, Universities, gov&#
he makes a LOT more than me. My monthly pay equals one of his paychecks after taxes, sad. All he has is a 2 year technical degree too. So if we did not have so many expenses we'd be quite comfy (losing a major one in 4 months though, yeah)....in 5 years when the house is paid off we will be every comfy, can't wait to not have to work! I would get back into my jewelry business FT and see if I can finally make that fly! Have a BFA and don't use it, what a waste.
Bare Minerals IS available at ULTA online,Sephora online...(sm)

...and you don't have to sign up for a makeup "club," or anything. I totally agree with you that this makeup is great for all the basic purposes (coverage, lasting), but their slogan is "Makeup so healthy you can sleep in it." There is a delay in time between when you can apply your powder after moisturizer, but it is really worth it.

To go with your powder I recommend the "pump brush" offered at some of the cosmetic online stores. You fill the handle with your powder mixture (I mix two different powders, changing it up or down according to how much sun I've been getting) and the pump brush will distribute some to the bristles, tap and have at it! This is great for carrying it with you to minimize the loss into the lining of your handbag!

I cannot recommend Bare Minerals enough. I used to be a MAC convert, and have tried everything from Chanel to Maybelline--this product does not disappoint.

MT courses and pay

I was hoping to get some recommedations for online courses and find out what the going rate is for a new MT per year.

I do medical coding & billing right now, but would like to work from home since I am a single mom of 3.  The only thing is I currently make $44,000 per year and cannot make much less then that because of mortgage and bills.  Thanks for any info.

Best on-line courses?

Hello,

I'd like to take an on-line transcription course, does anyone recommend one over another? Thanks!

Kirsten in CO

Have you taken MT courses yet? Or are you just jumping in on your own? nm

I never took any special courses, but I had
worked a total of almost 15 years in a hospital, first in billing, where we had to code all the diagnoses and ops ourselves, and then in another hospital in rehab, where part of my duties were transcription for that dept and some of their various clinics. After my second child was born, I quit the hospital and a friend who had 20 years in transcription taught me what I needed to learn. I got hired by one of the first company's I applied with, and have been doing this for seven years now, and love what I do!
Not bogus, there are good courses..
Some are scams. Career Step is not a scam. However, really nobody makes decent money starting out. I used to train MTs, some from Career Step. Most made close to minimum wage at first. They were also limited in the number of reports and work types at first and hours worked. They had the basics but didn't have the overall experience so it takes a lot of time and patience from both the trainer/mentor and the MT. But these MTs are the ones that usually do well. If you start out with a national and are just handed a job and not given a trainer/mentor per se, you will not learn much and will likely fail the QA reviews but hopefully they will give good feedback and you can learn that way. Newbies don't usually do well with that kind of situation in my experience. So finding a company that is willing to take on trainees and mentor them as a first job is a good idea. The pay is also not like it used to be and even after training if you have a job with a national paying 6 cpl you would only be making around 9 an hour based on 150 lph. In my experience I have rarely seen a newbie getting over 150 lph accurately until maybe after a good six months of heavy mentoring/close monitoring by an experienced MT. JMO. Hope that helps.
Taken courses, but not much hands-on experience as of yet. n/m

courses with Career Step

Have you seen the new issue of Women For Hire and the article about MT, how you can be making up to $32/hour and "you control how much you make."  They also suggest you go to AHDI website for more info.

What are the best at home medical billing courses out there?
Have a friend who is interested in training to become a medical biller/coder from home and I really have no idea where to tell her to start.  Can anyone help?
The schools are in the business of "selling" their courses.
Of course they are going to "sell" the profession as fastest growing, make great money staying at home, etc.
I'm studying coding too. I've been looking at different courses plus I bought SM

Step by Step Medical Coding by Carol J. Buck along with the workbook that goes along with it.  So while I'm trying to decide on a school, I can be studying on my own.  According to the AHIMA website though with my years of experience as an MT, I am eligible to take the certification exam without having to complete a formal coding course.  Transcription is considered part of the HIM department and thus if you have worked in any position in HIM, you are qualified to take the test.

So, I may find that studying on my own will benefit me better than paying money for a course I'm not sure about.  I also have the benefit of tuition reimbursement with my employer and I may take advantage of that if I find a program I like.

So, I'm with you!  Let me know what school you decide on or what avenue you decide to take.  Might help me make the decision in the long run!

Assciate in Arts, medical secretarial curriculum. 2 years with courses in sm

anatomy and physiology, biology, clinical biology (taking and processing lab tests--drawing blood on each other!!), filing, skills on all types of office machines, English composition, accounting, psychology, economics, medical terminology/transcription, and, of course, typing.  In the second year we did internships at local city hospitals.

I went into transcription after working as a medical secretary for 7 years in a very large clinic.

Either one are 9 month courses at the local community college..worth a shot!

Abacus is not free. It is $20 but worth it. You can download a trial version free which does not h
I have used this for years and have compared to Sylvan, Word, and MP Count, etc. When you have it set to count every character, bold, shift, tab, etc. It is great and always higher than the others. Now if you are wanting gross lines like in Word then no it won't be as high because Word counts blanks lines and Abacus counts a line only if there is a character on it. There is also two places to check for it to count the Headers/Footers. If you have the FREE version then it must be the trial or a very old version so you don't have all the features and functions.
Free? As in, free trial? Otherwise, I don't think you'll find a spellcheck software that's

Check out the free demo of MTStars FlashType. It's free for 7 days.
Then, if you like it, you can purchase it for $59.95.  See link below.
yes it is free....mine was free....why the exclamation?

There are free ones out there. I have been using a free one for 5 years. sm
Just have to research FTP server software.
free? We are not *free* - what planet R U on?

Free? Liberal?  You know nothing about me......I'm a 4th generation American so don't get up in my face......

We have a bad bad reputation today....and we do NOT HAVE 60 ALLIES/COUNTRIES BACKING US UP IN IRAQ....you better open up your eyes to the REAL stats.  Perhaps in 2003 we had 60 allies/countries backing us up....NAME 60 today.  I can name maybe 10 countries.......

You are terribly off-base.........even the soldiers have spoken up stating *unfortunately, this has become OUR vietnam* -

here's where you might think of beginning...iraqi veterans against the war......not a liberal website by any stretch of the imagination..

I have to contain myself for now, but I have a H*LL of an online SM

dating story - the stuff they make movies out of. I'm not kidding, either. I will be able to tell it soon, hopefully.

For what it's worth, I have found the most astounding dating site. Totally FREE. The best part of it is that there are forums there. http://www.plentyoffish.com

I buy online at...

Old Navy is one of my favorites.  Their stores are so small that they never have my size in stock anyway.  If you order from their website, the shipping is only $5 no matter how much you buy.  I also buy and sell a lot on ebay and half.com.  At Christmas time, I buy from Toys R Us online.  They usually have free shipping if your bill is over $50, and you can get the sale price.  I missed it yesterday.  I didn't realize that I could have purchased the 4-hour deals from Toys R Us on their website.  Oh well, maybe next year.

and I never used AOL online..sm

but  was a big investor back just before 2001 and I sold lots of shares when AOL was at 30....it subsequently went down to 9 or 11 and then was not on the market for a long time....

happy holidays y'all if y'all celebrate .

here ya go for online one

Look online

You can get some general info online.  But before signing up make sure you find out what the charges are for maintaining your account yearly, monthly or however.  That can make a big difference as to where you put your money.

What's the best way to take an online

I have 4 pretty long transcription tests to take from an online site and am tearing my hair out!!!  I can't figure out Express Scribe (and I'm told it probably won't work), but using manual controls on these voice files s going to take me all night.  Is there a trick to it?

online BOS
I just love this online BOS.  Did you know all you have to do is bring it up, ctrl 4, put in a word, and it will search the whole BOS for you - Bingo!  there it is!  Love it.....I've been using it more than I ever did with the paperback.
Where is the online BOS?
nm
I use online
resources the most.

I think I might have developed this habit because I need to have glasses with bifocals now and can't afford them. Thus, using the web is easier for me.

I have pretty good luck with it too.
Anyone using online BOS?

I'm wondering if anyone is using the online BOS 3rd edition and if you like it?

All comments appreciated.  - P.S. The company I work for uses these rules so the info is pertinent ... and I have no former editions.

Thanks.

FYI, you can apply online...sm

at:  www.fafsa.ed.gov

All the instructions are on this site.  You can get your "PIN" here (which you will use for applying online) and and also fill out your application for aid online.

online petitions

Please...have some sense.  Online petitions for anything never ever work, period.

Most petitions, legal/political etc will not accept online names/screen names/email addy's etc, because think about it, one person could sign repeatedly just by changing screen names, having all kind of yahoo, hotmail, aol, road runner, etc accounts.  If it's a legit petition most require a real name, address and phone number so the judging agency can verify all the votes, etc.

Sooooo, how'd you get online?

met my husband online

I was 28 and had lots of fun with online dating, a couple surprises with in-person visits compared to pictures, a couple of good laughs with 50-year-olds emailing me.  Great for the ego after a hurtful divorce.  Met my husband who was in a similar situation (and who did look like his picture), and he is a real gem.  I hadn't used eharmony, though, so I can't speak to how well that one works, but I went through a dating site for people of my same religion.  If you can find common-interest dating sites you already have something in common to go on.

online dating...
Went through match.com several years ago. Had a pretty good 6 month relationship with the first guy I met, and have been married to the second man I met online for over 2 years now.
Good luck with yours!!!
I too met my husband online
I met my husband through match.com.  He was the second man I had dated through match.  I was looking for a man with close to the same values and spiritual beliefs as mine.  He is a wonderful man even through the pains of blending families (7 kids between us).  I feel blessed and I believe that on line singles web sites provide an opportunity for people to meet "the right" person by laying a lot of things on the table at the get-go that sometimes takes months to discover about someone not providing a self-profile up front.  Be honest, be careful, seek honesty in your match, and do not ignore red flags. You can meet the right one through on-line dating.  Have faith, trust God to guide you to that person, and enjoy the process.
online dating
I've met some pretty good ones online (just not my type person), and some pretty bad ones. I'd say its probably the same odds as when meeting in person, some are good, some aren't. Of course, I'm perfect LOLOLOL
Online Resume
I have been thinking a lot about setting up a small page online kind of like an online resume, but I don't know where to begin. Anybody know of where I can get a ton of questions answered?
does anyone use people pc online
Just wondering how reliable it is.
I use the online Dorlands. sm
