Word is making my crazy and I'm ready to tear my hair out!!

Does anyone else have this problem?

When working in Word, there are TONS of ~WRL0000.tmp files that are created (the 0000 are just placeholders for random numbers) and being used by Word. These files eventually cause the program to crash, close and restart, always giving the message that the normal file has been changed and asking if I want to reload. This can helps SEVERAL times a day and I'm just tired of the aggravation.

I have looked high and low for an answer to this question and I have yet to find one other person that has had this happen. Microsoft is NO help at all. Their KB only says that the normal.dot is corrupted. I have recreated normal.dot and that hasn't fixed the problem, either. I've done the same for the soap.dot that I use for notes--no luck.

The only thing that I can figure is that these .tmp files are copies of the actual note/file I'm working on (I've opened them up and looked at them). Most can be deleted but there are always one or two that can't be deleted because they're being used by another program (or so the computer says). Closing Word and rebooting Windows is not helping either. BTW, I'm working on XP OS.

If there is anyone out there with either the same problem or, better yet, an idea on how to get this stupidity to stop, please let me know before I go totally bananas!

I hear you! I'm ready to pull my hair out!
I keep looking forward to that in hopes of a "normal" schedule.  Plus money is a big factor - I need all I can make!
Sorry, but your schedule doesn't justify making up your own rules. Use the word board for word q

Everytime someone posts a crazy word here...

I find myself saying it out loud and frankly some of them just HURT--especially that symptomolology one there!

Now if we could only teach them to dictate in "text Expander speak:" it would save us all some time!

The patient arrived to our emergency department via ambulance with a complaint of chest pain.

Making text larger in Word
Ctrl+A to select all text, choose font size from format menu. Also make sure view is at 100%.
Anyone familiar with making MS Word templates?
I am trying to make a bookmark field, one that will take the text that I type in the first time and copy it to another location further in the document. The problem is that the font size is different in the second location. It changes from 12 pt font to 10 pt font and the copied text is not changing to the correct font. I hope that makes sense. Any ideas?

Laser Hair Removal (for dark hair)
I've tried Epilators (basically an electronic tweezer) and wax, but nothing beats Laser HR. It's a bit pricy and takes a few treatments to be 100% effective, but definitely works.
ExtText by Dictaphone -- Word 2000 - won't capitalize when making a new paragraph or after lists?
Hi. I am new at a job. The Word 2000 running in ExtText (Dictaphone) will not capitalize at the beginning of a new paragraph (never had that happen before), nor after numbers in an automatic list, and sometimes even just after plain periods, not just periods used in numbers (like hemoglobin 7.5).

What is going on? It works fine in the Word version on my computer, but when it ties with ExtText, it "forgets" to capitalize. It is especially annoying with lists, and also at the first of paragraphs, I never had to babysit that before.

Any help? TX
plus the wear-and-tear on your car and all that - sm
mileage. Do you have a back up vehicle if it breaks down so you can get to work? Personally I just don't think a 100+ plus drive to work is worth it, no matter what the pay, but if your bottom line makes this a better offer you need to figure out if you want to make that drive 5 days a week (unless you can work something out with them and work 10 hour days, and only drive it 4 days a week).
no tear gas thrown on guardsmen

Why were the guardsmen there?  We have freedom to protest.  The military is not allowed to patrol and keep tabs on the people.  That is the job of cops.  The military is used to defend the US not control its citizens.  The governor of Ohio was wrong and that has been proven.  There was no tear gas thrown at the guardsmen, there were stocks and rocks and then the guardsmen shot their guns and killed students.

Definitely less wear and tear on your own computer,
but also the company can monitor which web site you visit, all emails sent and received on their computer, and just about anything else you do on it.  But my main reason for using my own computer is that I have all my info on it, i.e, my favorites for the web, lots of reference material, etc., that is a pain to have to re-enter into another computer.  Also, it is much easier to transfer autocorrect from within a computer than from one computer to another (at least that's what I've been told, but in this instance it seemed to be a real problem for this tech).
Yes, could be, I guess. He still has not shed one tear and it's been 13+ months. SM

I wonder if he really needs to see some kind of a counselor about his life in general, but my brother is very hard to suggest things to.  But, one thing I do know, if they don't get a handle on this boy's smart-mouth and terrible attitude toward his dad and his grandmother who is helping out, I just believe they are in for some horrific years to come.  I've raised 2 teenagers, one who gave me problems and one who did not, and this is different from what I had to deal with and also at a younger age.  His dad just seems resigned to the fact that, well, this is how it is and how it's going to be.  I can't just sit by and let the whole family crash and burn, but there's only so much that I feel I can do.  The grandmother (my mother) is helping, but frankly her "mouth" is about as bad as the teenager's.  It's constant back and forth/back and forth between her and him - you would't believe the tone of their voices and the things they say to each other, and then the things he says to his dad.  I learned a long time ago that "tone of voices" matters a great deal in general conversation as well as arguments, and to tell you the truth, my mother can be meaner than anyone I know when she gets started.

I'm sorry ths is so long - I guess I got carried away but I might as well leave it now that it is typed.  It's just a family problem that we have.

But isn't the need to tear others down also a good indicator of low self-esteem? sm
If the original topic was a question about IQ scores, how is it that when MensaMT responded to the question and shared her IQ score and experience lifting herself up? And how does anyone know anyone else on an anonymous message board without telling things about themselves?
How terrible. They can now block off the tear duct to
help keep moisture in the eyes.  I had the temporary one put in and it really did help.   I had one eye done and am not happy but I do not have the problems you do.  It is so hard to know if you will be in that small percentage with bad results.  I hope something is found to help relieve or correct some of the problems you are having...good luck and best wishes.

to do medical transcription at home as if they may do something AWFUL with the info they receive. So if you want an invasion of privacy let's REALLY invade it and make sure fat chicks don't transcribe because they are so busy eating they can't get the work done, they mess up the keyboard with food and if they are provided health insurance they will raise the rates for the company sky high because their health risks are higher than others. Then there are the psychological issues overweight people bring to the table. After we eliminate fat people, we can go on to eliminate diabetic people who may have low blood sugar while typing and go into a spell and type the wrong thing. I could go on and on through the process of elimination. How about prescribed medications that may cloud your thinking? So you take Ambien to sleep but you have an Ambien groggy hangover when you are transcribing? Should they transcribe. How about your teens are on your last nerves and you take a Xanax? Should you be allowed to transcribe?
Laser hair removal. Has anyone tried laser hair removal on their face and if so, did it work?

lots of them and very quickly IF this is what is happening. Six Sigma management tends to cut the fat and thin the herd by "survival of the fittest." In other words, expect it to be harder to achieve a high quality score, incentive bonuses, quality bonuses, etc., because they will up the ante with respect to that At least that was my experience with Edix...and no, I'm not a sloppy MT barking about sour grapes. That's just the way it was.
ready or not
If new Career Step grads are not ready to work, why are so many of them getting multiple job offers? Some get four or five offers within a month of graduation. In the real world, the marketplace will determine who is ready to work and who is not. Whether or not a given MT is prepared to work is between her and her employer. AAMT is sticking its nose into an area where it is neither needed nor wanted, and they would not be doing this if there were not profit in it for them. If they want to do something for us, let's see them do something to stop the offshoring of our medical records. If they were showing real leadership on this and other substantitve issues, our salaries would not be declining. We cannot trust the AAMT.
My son was almost 4 - He will do it when he is ready.

I know that I am in no way ready to do this on my own. Others have said I should cut out the sm
middle man and get my own accounts.  I know that I am not qualified to do that right now.  I just graduated two months ago!  I want to get at least 2-3 years experience under someone else before I go out looking for my own accounts.  I'm not ready to be responsible for everything yet.  Maybe I'm a minority, or don't have enough confidence in myself, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
I am ready.
I haven't done it yet, but I do have everything I need to work loaded on my laptop in case I need to evacuate for a hurricane.  Just grab the laptop, foot pedal, keyboard and go.
Ready set go.

But seriously, folks. Let's come up with a name (something with a snappy acronym), then a Yahoo User group & a domain name, & eventually we can come up with some kind of group statement. Let's see what evolves. Who knows? Maybe we can put a dent the Association for Healthcare Documentation in India (!).
Get ready for yours to
stay the same. Most of us here have experience and we should all have accuracy. If you have worked on the platform for some time now and nothing seems to change, just gonna have to suck it up and know what the issues are, that being too many people not changing according to what the specs are.
I'm getting my yacht ready now.

I'm with you, ready to retire
but have a few years to go, like 20. My production hasn't gone up 25%, has yours? If anything it has gone down. Have you thought about Spheris? I had a job offer last year at 10 cpl, should have taken it probably.
Actually, I was ready to do this same thing - (sm)
start a petition, but I was (VERY HAPPILY!) beaten to it by a faster-thinking (and probably even madder-than-I-am) MT. GOOD WORK! Lets get this puppy ROLLING! ;D

getting ready to set-up a belkin

will let you know.

We are getting ready to upgrade.
Supposedly it is going to be "wonderful."  I hope so.
You're probably not ready for this then.
If you're questioning what a line is and how much to charge, that says you haven't done your homework yet. When he asks you about FTP or encryption or HIPAA compliance, will you have to tell him you'll get back to him after you run to check this board for an answer? If you haven't prepared yourself well enough for this interview, it will show and until you're ready to answer questions on the spot, I don't know why you think you're ready to go out looking for your own accounts. You need to know what you're talking about.
Ready to quit, too...sm

I just started what I hoped was my final MT job, but now it looks like it's time to start looking again.  I have over 35 years' experience and this outfit has had me on QA for a month now.

They're nitpicky over hyphens.  You use a hyphen here, but not here.  Hello?  These doctors can barely make a coherent sentence.  They don't have a clue whether near-syncope has a hyphen or not...FYI, per the BOS bible, it does, but not according to the outfit I'm working for...nor does the MD care.  He just wants his report back in a readable format.

And there is no such word as cary or carie when you're referring to teeth...it's caries, period.  I did win that battle.

I worked for a short time for another outfit at minimal pay (marking time until better thing came along) that was nitpicky over semicolons.

As my DH's boss once told him when he was worrying about the small stuff, "Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagons."

So if there's an MTSO out there who's looking for a fast, accurate, punctuationally-challenged (apparently) MT who loves ER/psych, feel free to contact me.

That's what happened at Edix when they brought in Bill Keena. The company was sold within a year.

Six Sigma is a management style and philosophy. Check Google.
boy i can relate. i'm ready to quit a
new job because of something similar. heaven forbid tech people being able to fix a "tech" problem.  i know more than he does and it's getting to the point that this company isn't worth the trouble. it's a shame because i like the other people that i deal with.
okay now I am ready to make a move

I could kick myself -the company I am working for keeps saying it will pick up and I keep staying, meanwhile I have put on hold a job I should have taken-MDI in Maryland. I have learned my lesson! I am finally ready to move on-anyone looking for an IC who can do 1300 lines a day?

okay now I am ready to make a move
What company were you working for that was not giving you enough work? I have recently made a move and am also not getting the work I thought I would get when I changed.
Robotics...it has always fascinated me since ready
Isaac Asimov's novels. I am not sure exactly what would be needed, but I would certainly start somewhere in that field. Probably lots of math, I imagine.

Since I am no longer single, however, I have to give that dream up.

The other thing I would like to do is get involved in ecology, studying the earth, etc. It is going through so many changes right now...like we are in a huge transition period while it grows and changes.

In any case, anything to get outside a little bit, I think...

How about you, Romey?
No one comes out of MT school ready to work...sm

Students will come out of the top 3 schools ready to work, but will have to work for lower line rates as apprentices.  So who do you think the MTSOs will hire?

We won't hire newbies that's for sure. There's way too much training that you have to do with a brand new MT, lower line rate or not. That's the least of our worries as MT's.

Woo Hoo! I'm ready and feeling lucky! nm

Absolutely and my 2 teens are ready also. sm
I have a Senior in HS and a Freshman in HS who both are board, finished their summer reading, tired of the swim club, been to the beach for 3 weeks, and they are now vamping up for their summer camps, VB and football. They both said yesterday, they are board and their brain needs stimulation.

I on the other hand, can't wait to have my space back. I sometimes feel "my space" is invaded and don't have a spot to call my own. No matter what room in the house I go into, someone is there or follows me in, especially the kitchen.

Can't wait for school to start, but on the other hand, am not that anxious as they will be 1 more year toward being on their own and leaving the house for good - college and everything. That is scary!
Ready to scream (venting)
I am doing a loooooonnnng psychiatric report by an ESL who must be sitting 1 mm from some machine that is beeping loudly every half second.  I am able to hear every fourth word over the loud beeping and that word takes me five minutes to decipher because of his accent   Is it noon somewhere so I can have a drink?
If you have to ask, you're not ready for that big of a change.
