No end in sight for outsourcing
I believe some of the accounts will come back state side, but the outsource offshoring will continue - no end in sight. To look at the bigger picture, our healthcare system is in a mess with no solutions actively being worked on. As monies become tighter in the future and if nothing is being done about fixing our healthcare mess, the motivation is strong for financial officers to send more work offshore because of the cheap labor. Some hospitals now accept offshoring as a solution and when the hospitals themselves directly use this service, well, not much hope to keep the work state side. I believe there are some facilities that will not accept inferior work from any one, state side or otherwise, but I am also seeing that some hospitals WILL accept inferior work motivated by the cheap price. This is happening across all sectors of business in this country. More than 50% of IT jobs are now in India and China with no end in sight. More and more business are trying to find ways to dump their benefits - #1 is health insurance and this affects all of us as more and more people are going without health insurance.
Keep the bills out of sight--sm
For me they are the biggest distraction. I can ignore the phone, tune out the noise but those stinking bills in my line of sight are the worst. I either have to go online and pay them or call so and so and tell them why I am late. I don't pull them out until after I am done or before I start. Otherwise, they stay in the drawer. Now, I keep the paid receipts on top of the desk to remind me why I work like a mule!
Love at first sight?
Hey - I know this is the wrong board for this but if anyone would switch over to emotion/depression and/or chit chat I'd like your opinion. Thanks
OMG. I'm never letting my legs out of my sight again. LOL.

I don't think I am in a light of sight for cell towers either. sm
They pick up signals within distances like cell phones do. I don't think a direct line of site is needed period like it is with satellite. With satellite, you have the big dish that is placed on your house and it beams the satellites in space to get your signals. With wireless it gets signals from the towers. You have nothing but you wireless network card or USB plug that picks up the signal from the tower. No big, ugly dish around on my home.

If you can only occasionally get a cell signal, it might not be the best option for you. Do you know anyone around that has wireless? My brother had it and came to my home with his laptop to show me how it worked and that is when I choose to get it. I like that I can now also travel and pick up signals rather than be limited to one location with the satellite on my home also. No need to worry if a hotel has wireless or not as I have it. I would figure out who the best cell phone company provider is in your area and contact them. Tell them specifically your location, your situation with iffy cell signals and see what they suggest. Like I said mine had the 30-day money back guarantee so I knew I could go that route if I saw it wasn't getting good signals for me. All the major cell companies have wireless now, but your best bet is who has the most towers in your area. I am thinking there is a website that shows cell towers and locations, maybe research it? Cannot recall right now, but I have seen it before. Just contact the company in your area and tell them to explain their wireless INTERNET plans to you.
Hell, I didn't let my kids out of my sight in the 1980s!
Freaks and loonies didn't just crawl out of the woodwork recently.
Love at first sight on the Long Island RailRoad
On the Long Island Railroad, traveling to Greenwich Village for the day and he traveling to a concert in Queens, NY.  The instant I looked at his face and he talked to me and sat across from me on the train, I knew we would make history together, I knew something was gonna happen between us.  He got off the train, I continued on to Greenwich Village, NYC..didnt get his number, nor he mine.  Four months later I was driving into my apartment parking lot and he was driving behind me, said he recognized me from my sunglasses as I looked in the rear view mirror.  He asked for my phone number and the rest is history..It was truly love at first sight..
it's TASTE. You have lost sight of the original concept of the posts.
i'm not doing an ethical evaluation on why i am drawn to toby keith or if he may be gay or rock hudson's qualities if he was gay or jude law.  it is just the type of guy women are drawn to and why.  shallow has nothing to do with the discussion.  but you aren't paying attention are you?
It's called DLS for direct-line-of-sight...mountains could be a problem...sm
I have wireless but hold a direct line of sight to tower only 1 mile away. Mountains could block signal. The only way you could know would be to take the laptop there and see if the signal holds. Are there any neighbors there that might be using it too? That's your best "test." Ignore poster below who talks about router. The initial signal is sent from the tower TO your router, router takes care of wireless internet INSIDE house, not outside. If you do go wireless router inside house, buy one with a speed booster. I have connects of 100.0 mbps routinely.

I have two IC contracts right now. I recently went back to a job I had quit earlier in the year to work for the other company I am still working for.

The newer job has 80% ESLs. I transcribe OP notes primarily and I can fill in other work types as the opportunity arises. I am frustrated with this particular situation. After 6 months, I am making less money and working longer hours. I am past the learning curve and I should be doing better, at least in the number of hours I am spending doing the job. We have run out of work for 24 hrs at a time at least 5 or 6 times since December 1, and in November it was more than that. I have a friend who worked for this company as well and she was having similar difficulties. The only thing that we can figure is that they are shorting us line count some way, because after 6 months at it, it should be easier/faster/more money, but it is less and less every single pay period. It is not a nice thing to accuse a company of doing, but it SEEMS that way to us. I am fed up with being expected to type every single OP note that comes in 24/7 and meeting the 6 hr TAT for them on weekends, evenings, holidays, wee hours of the morning...

I took back a job I held for 2-1/2 yrs. The team leader has changed and this gal thinks that I should be on call 24/7 for whenever she has work. I might have some at 7 a.m., or perhaps not until 6 p.m. or later. I can't plan my personal life and between these two IC situations, I find that I am not eating on a daily basis, not showering on a daily basis and not sleeping more than 3 or 4 hours at a time. I have lost weight and I don't feel very well. I woke up today with a rip roaring head cold (my first in nearly 8 yrs) and it has already moved to bronchitis and I am expecting pneumonia by the weekend because I develop it very easily. I already have deep pain in my back.

Yes, I should call in sick tomorrow, but I really can't take the fallout. The job I took back I am covering for another gal who wanted vacation over the holidays and if I have to call in sick, the team leader will call me and pitch a fit about how this is my responsibility. It IS my responsibility, I did say I would do it, and I will do it, despite being quite ill. In the past, when I worked for this company, they would not allow me to call in sick for a "cold" without a doctor's note. I worked through many illnesses with them and only called in sick when I developed West Nile Fever and while I was sick for over a month, I only called for my last 12 reports one day when I could no longer see the computer screen because my head hurt.

The problem is that yes, many MTs lack work ethic. They don't take their responsibility seriously. This is not a work as you please career, not even for an IC. I can see the MTSO's point of view, I truly can. Like finding experienced, reliable and capable MTs, for the MTs who are these things, finding a company will treat you like a human being is equally difficult. I sit here, feeling lousy and like I am an utter slave labor with no consideration whatsoever. I know that my work needs to be done, but when I am this sick it is better that someone else do it for the sake of the work, for accuracy and for speed of getting it out. I know that I am needed, but to be the MT these companies need me to be, I also need to look after my own health.

I will also mention that when I have asked for vacation, I have been approved for the time, but the MTSO queues up my work and calls me then I am not on the system getting it done. I have told them I had been approved for time off, but the MTSO didn't schedule anyone to cover for me and I am told to get on work, vacation or no, if I want to keep my job.

Thus, I work 24/7/365 and have for years. I work sick, I work when I am in pain (I have an AI disorder), I work exhausted from staying up all night covering for others who are allowed to call in sick and have vacations when I can't have either. I work having no health insurance and not being able to afford the $125 a month to buy some with a high copay so I can see a doctor. I work without breaks for breakfast, lunch or dinner and I sometimes come close to having an accident because if I leave my desk to go to the little girls' room I get nasty calls about where I am at and what I am doing.

Many MTs are mistreated, and I am one of them.
Poor MT
Hi, Friend! Why do you assume all MTs are ladies? Isn't that a bit sexist? That aside, you should be the one who sets your rates. Do so in a very businesslike way. If they can't (or won't) afford you services, move on to someone who can. Good luck! Tom
Your Poor Son
I'm sorry that your son has to endure so much pain after what his father decided to try. I hope he doesn't have any further problems. My daughter had a very large plantar wart last year and had to get it burned off at the doctor's office. Thankfully it hasn't recurred. My neighbor's young daughter just had one and because of her age, the doctor told her to put duct tape on it. I thought it sounded really crazy, but it worked. It brought it right up to the surface after about a week. She would use an emory board to file off the dead skin around it and then she applied the one of those medicated pads on it for a few days and it popped right off.
All I can say is THAT'S SCARRY and POOR YOU!

Poor communication
I think it is very interesting and would make wonder why she was fired. Sounds to me like someone with poor management skills, who was communicating bad information as they were not happy in their job.

I have been typing operative reports on the DQS for over a year now. My office has never treated me like I am a "dime a dozen".
I agree with you on here, but why pay someone less because they are poor
than you pay someone that works for Public works. Why not give them a job at Public Works?

It's easier said than done.

If you think they are getting a lot on handouts, think again. They only get Tanif (if they have kids and dont get child support), food stamps up to I think 300 to 350 bucks (my family comsumes more), Medicaid (again if they have children), public housing (who in their right mind would want to live there).

These people are not living a life of the wealth. It is so little that they would want to go out and get a job.

I agree with you about making them work, but you cant give them slave wages either.
poor yuckster
you know why she had to become an MT don't you?  She couldn't get hired working outside of her home because for one, employers refused to make the chairs customized to fit her fanny (too expensive) and also, the endless, sporadic combustion of her pimples was way to off putting to the public (bad for business).  So, she had to become an MT and work in the safety of her home.
Poor Thing
Can you imagine waking up in the middle of the night with him curled up on your pillow, nose to nose with you??? Guess we shouldn't speak badly of the dead but since they embraced his ugliness I guess it's okay.
Oh, do I ever know how it feels to be poor at SM

Christmas. We had those years several times. But don't hock your wedding band. I know you were just kidding, right? Don't lose your priorities. If you have to, just TELL them. Really.

2-4 will make ya poor.

Your poor kids will be MTs for sure....they will have to be!

Poor girl is right
I would hate to have to go without chocolate.
My poor mouse...
I'm surprised it's still going, as much as I use it out of frustration.  I find myself grabbing it and patting it VERY HARD on the pad over and over and over again, all while saying something to the tune of, "WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?"
Poor Katie
i bet after hours of labor not being allowed to go to a hospital and with a sock or something stuffed in her mouth to keep her quiet, Mrs. Cruise might be ready to realize that her husband, no matter how rich and famous, is a total wackadoodle!  If she had any sense she would go find a good divorce lawyer and get out of there.

Poor baby . .
It it's from nerves try chamomile tea with honey.  I think Celestial Seasonings Sleepy Time tea has chamomile.  Maybe you could look into something homeopathic like Calms or Bach Flower Remedy like Rescue Remedy.
You Poor Thing!

Rough day for you.  I think we all have been there.

Make some time for yourself.  QUICK!!  If you can't take a whole day off, take 1/2 a day.  If that won't work....take an hour.  But do something for YOU.  You deserve it.  You need to recharge.

Good Luck.

You poor thing. sm

Dictators like that make me so angry I want to smack 'em!

It's probably a good thing most of us don't have direct contact with the dictators.  You've heard of road rage?  If we could get our hands on some of these worst-of-the-worst dictators there might be a new term:  MT rage!  (Or maybe *going MT* instead of *going postal.*)  LOL

I'm kidding, of course.  I'm not really suggesting violence.  But I do sometimes wish I could at least get to tell them off in person, instead of doing it at home at my desk, where they can't hear me.

Hope the rest of your day is better.

Ah, so! Poor doc. Reminds me of one of my...sm
docs who butchers the English language. I called him on repeatedly spelling a term incorrectly (course rather than coarse) and he relied "I was a pre-vet major, not an English major!"

Sorry about the misunderstanding!
Poor grammar
I once had a doctor describing a patient on pain medications. She was wondering if it was safe to stay on them because she planned on becoming pregnant. Well, my doctor said "because she wants to have a kid." I typed because she wants to have a child. Kid? Okay did you really attend med school?
Ooh - your poor tummy!
That's a lot of acid to mix with an aspirin-containing product! Ouchy.
poor grammar
ARGHHHHHH!!! How can these kids spend thousands of dollars on college and med school and not be able to pronounce what the heck they are talking about? Left ventricular hypertrophy just became "verticlar". I can't even spell out how arthropathy came out. These aren't ESLs - these are good old American kids. Even seasoned docs often can't speak. How about isheemia? It isn't a speech impediment, either. They can't pronounce drugs, let alone spell them. The more I am around these folks, the more I believe in witch doctors, at least they can dance and chant at the same time. I still love this job but the quality (and I believe IQ) of some of the people going into medicine is sinking like the Titanic. I'm going to Starbucks. I need something besides Maxwell House this morning.
poor grammar
All of the accounts that I work on (major hospitals - no clinic notes) are verbatim accounts but complain if we don't correct the grammar. My company says, verbatim is verbatim. Talk to your inept and lazy dictators. And how about the females who dictate like they are practicing for phone sex? Spare me the breathiness toots. It may work on your colleagues but doesn't cut ________ with me. I've been doing this for 25 years and I can absolutely tell you the quality has gone down, down, down over the years and you can't blame no child left behind. Blame lazy students. Put the blame where it belongs. The first time a doctor tells me "I be fine" I'm outta there!!!
How sad for your poor dogs.
bark, I know something is going on. I would never, never, never put one of those on my babies. I consider that animal abuse. I feel sorry for your animals. Why don't you try one and see how you like it.  You might have more compassion for your poor dogs.
Poor vision
That is funny!!!!
Poor dictators
I don't think the company gives a darn about how difficult some of these dictators are - it seems like they are so afraid of losing an account that they will not ask for anything that would help us.

Boy, am I having a bad day!
poor thing to really believe that is right

Doctors say and write lots of things that are not proper which is why Joint Commission adopted the Pharmacists' recommendation of dangerous abbreviations.  It comes down to patient care, not trying to prove a point that a doctor or two write something that way.  For the same reason it is dangerous to write Valium 5 1 daily, I will not use the two exposed numerals together in D5 0.25 normal saline.

Phyllis, if you are alive, thank you for educating me about normal saline and how to use it properly 15 years ago.

Poor hardworking mostly minority?
You are so wrong.    He may not have grasped the vastness of the situation, but I don't think anybody else did either.   I think they do now.   I wondered when people would get around to blaming the response on race.  You're a little slow.
Pray for these poor people.
Up to 20 Dead in Fire Aboard Evacuees' Bus
By SHEILA FLYNN, Associated Press Writer

Friday, September 23, 2005
(09-23) 06:01 PDT Wilmer, Texas (AP) --

A bus carrying elderly evacuees from Hurricane Rita caught fire early Friday on a gridlocked highway near Dallas, killing as many as 20 people, authorities said.

"Deputies were unable to get everyone off the bus," spokesman Don Peritz said. "We believe it's going to be closer to 20 fatalities.

The bus, carrying about 45 people, was engulfed with flames, causing a 17-mile backup on Interstate 45, already heavily congested with evacuees from the Gulf Coast. The bus was reduced to a blackened, burned-out shell, surrounded by numerous police cars and ambulances.

There were indications that oxygen used by elderly evacuees could have had a role in the fire, Peritz said. There were a series of explosions, apparently from the oxygen equipment, he said.

"The early indications are this is a mechanical issue. The driver did survive the accident," Peritz said. "It's my understanding he went back on the bus several times to try to evacuate people."

Interstate 45 stretches more than 250 miles from Galveston through Houston to Dallas. The crash site is roughly 17 miles southeast of downtown Dallas.

Also, eating like a poor person
is not always a bad thing. I do need to lose some weight. :0)
Poor kid. You sound like a very caring mom. (sm)

Maybe a few months to get himself feeling better (antidepressants?) and you keeping him up in his studies will be enough to get him back on his feet and feeling better about school.  I bet the school would be willing to help you with this (maybe even have a tutor come to the house a few times a week) if you speak to the right people.

Good luck to you, mom!

Poor thing, you have my sympathy. sm

Marcaine, though, is just an anesthetic.  It numbs the area so the tendon can "relax."  When my tendinitis was at its worst, the tendon swelled and compressed the ulnar nerve, causing numbness in my ring and little fingers -- it was like trying to type with a ham!  LOL

I wish I knew a good way to describe the exercises my doctor gave to me.  He said the mark of a good surgeon was one who doesn't want to do surgery, and I agree.  My first flareup was about 10 years ago, and I haven't been "knifed" yet.

Maybe there are some examples online of stretching exercises.   Good luck to you!

rich men versus poor men
I would take a blue collar over a white collar any day.  Blue collar men are more down to earth, can take care of things around the house, do not worry so much about their looks (thats my job), are way more attentive and treat a woman like a lady, all the while being rugged and in charge.  White collar men are metro, cold, corporate, skirt chasers, insensitive, arrogant.  Love over money all the time for me.  Even if I sit and wait for it until I turn gray, I will never settle for less than that.
