Medical Transcription In The Era Of Electronic Medical Records
EMR has revolutionized the healthcare industry in recent times. Many experts felt that EMR & Voice Recognition would totally replace Medical Transcription - however; the industry soon realized that transcription has certain advantages over point & click charting and many physicians preferred to dictate notes rather than document the data at the point of care themselves.
Have MTSO's or IC's all become electronic medical record suppliers as well as transcription pr

I've been an IC for over thirty years and the medical offices are now asking me if they can search for old records?  What, they don't keep their own records anymore?  Do all MT companies now offer searchable databases on their company servers for the physician's staff or do they install databases on the physician's computers for this sort of thing?  I've been asked to provide this and I'm thinking "wow, can't the office staff open word and find the appropriate folder and file?"  Is this now a standard item offered by MTSO's?   What happened to medical office management software?  Are transcription companies now becoming electronic medical records suppliers?  If so, please let me know.....If so I've become a dinosaur!

Electronic Medical Records?? What do you think? SM

Ok, so I went to my doctor's office today and noticed that they just installed a computer station for all doctors in the clinic to start doing their own records while they are visiting you!  What do you guys think?? Is this the end of our profession or is our profession going turn it to something else..like editing those reports that the doctors have to type.

Is this a real problem or will it be many years from now before it effects us?  Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks....

Does anyone have info regarding EMR rules for doctors.   I was told by a physician today that by 2010 that all doctors were supposed to be EMR.  What will this do to our transcription jobs?  Any info appreciated.
electronic medical records

Here's the scoop on EMR.... right now not all facilities have everything electronic, but they are working on getting electronic on all records, however, there will still be paperbased files. What MTs need to do is to become familiar in the electronic field and not just limit their skills to transcription, because, lets face it today NO ONE stays at one job for years and years, no matter what the specialty, you need to keep educating yourself, better your skills, and move on to bigger and BETTER things!!! It will eventually change, after all, even AMTA changed their name:)

Electronic medical spellchecker

Can anyone tell me the best electronic medical spellchecker on the market and where I can buy it? Starting a new account and it is required to have.

Thanks,

Angie

I like the electronic medical books (sm)
convenient to use and user friendly. As for remembering, can't help you with that one. Pushing 60, the old mind doesn't want to work as hard remembering things, but the electronic books are the next best thing.
Electronic Medical Records
Not all EMR systems rely solely on CPOE-type technology. Every acute care account I have worked on in the last 4 or 5 years has an EMR component. The medical records are stored digitally, which allow to any physician with access to the system to pull the patient's record.

The physicians on my current account can input data through point and click (primarily ER notes and radiology which allows immediate access to the information) or they can choose to dictate (H&Ps, consults, ops, and discharges). The dictated reports are still transcribed or edited by MTs.
EMR (electronic medical record) and voice

Yes, they are pushing to make medical records electronic, instead of a paper chart.  That doesn't affect MTs.  We still transcribe reports and instead of the reports being printed and filed in a paper chart, they are part of the electronic record and can be accessed at any computer in the hospital , for instance.  The doctor can sit at the nursing station and pull up all the dictated reports, the lab, radiology reports, etc.

Voice recognition, of course, is something different.  There is no one saying that VR has to be used by 2012.  That's simply an alternate way of getting the dictation onto the EMR.

The electronic medical record has replaced MTs at my job..it's all over!

My job has been scanning all the medical records over to electronic medium and the doctors are now taking laptops in the exam room with them and typing in all the info, so basically, my job will be obselete once this transition is over.

Our boss has been doing a comparison of the clinics who now have the electronic medical record--those docs went from dictating thousands of lines in a weekly period to less than 50!!!  Of course this is a tremendous difference and it's "lights out" for us MTs.  We've got about a good year before it's all done.

Have any of you been affected by this new technology?

P.S.  I didn't care so much anyhow...I hate this industry and this job, so I've been looking for other employment anyhow.

What will happen to us when Electronic Medical Redords become the norm?

I would love to hear everyones 2 cents about Electronic Medical Records....How soon will this be a problem for us? What will we do after they are in most doctors exam rooms?

Let me know what you guys think...Do MT's have a future? or did I just go thru schooling for nothing ...

I am sorry, I meant Electronic Medical Records, not redords.

Electronic medical records...Is there an option out there for MTSO's SM

I'm wondering if there is a program out there that allows a small MTSO to provide EMR to a clinic of three physicians.

I'm looking for a web-based transcription program that allows me to send/receive dictation on the web and that allows them to access the finished records via the web.

Any ideas?  TIA

Hi,
I am working as a QA for a reputed firm for the last five years. After putting in so many years of work for a firm, I feel confident of doing various reports.

I would like some help from you to find me some work. Can you please suggest or provide me some work if you have excess work.

medical transcription not really all
Just wondering, because lately the dictators have gotten so sloppy, it seems they do not care, or there just aren't any consequences to getting the medical records that we type munched up.  I work for a national and the dictations are so sloppy I cannot make out even the little words that are transitioning the sentences.  I feel they think it is silly and a waste of their time, otherwise why would they rush, slur, muck it up now more than ever?  Even dictating the wrong medications.

But if you don't mind that, there are tons of work at home cust serv positions. have you also considered general/legal transcription?

Has anyone had any experience with this company?  Any info would be great since I cannot find anything on this Palmdale transcription company other than their website.

Medical transcription

I have tried to post this twice before , but was given some lame reasons about me mentioning a certain company or 2 - This company has a site of their own on this forum, so I am guessing that is the reason why!

To all you newbies -  good luck - you're going to need it!!!!  Back in the middle 90s I was making almost $50,000 a year MTing, just my normal hours a day.  For the past  couple of years I have been lucky to make $20,000 a year, doing twice as much work, of course.  I guess when you have foreigners who will type the stuff for 4 cents a line, why do they need us?  This used to be a great profession to get into.  All of the business colleges had courses in it - which I took 2 years of, plus worked in an office for 2 years before staying home with my babies.

I guess it served it's purpose when I needed it, but if you are looking for an MT job - Please be very cautious!!!!  They will promise one thing and deliver another.  Try doing 5 different hospitals, all with at least 500 docs, who, of course, all  want something done different/specifal just for them, and you may get these docs to transcribe, oh lets see, maybe once a year - but God forbid you for get that E-mail from 6 months ago that Dr. So and So wants his dictation done in a different format!

This profession has really becme ridiculous, and gets worse and worse by the day!  I am collecting unemployment now, which is not much less than I was making transcribing, and I am planning on going back to college to obtain a real degree with a REAL job!  Good luck to everyone who hangs in there!!! REALLY!  I hope you prosper!

Now, I know there are going to be MTs out there who claim to type 3000 lines a day and make 15 cents a line - Bullcrap!!!!  I can type ANY speciality and after all these years I haven't met one person who could type faster than myself!!!!

Now, I'm sure this will probably be deleted because MTing is the bread and butter of this web site, but just in case, if there is anyone out thre thinking about transcription as a position, think again!!  Wendy

Are there really schools out there for medical transcription
that mentor you and help you find a job when you complete their course?  I don't want to pay the money that these places charge without knowing that in the end I will have a job.  Do any of them have internships where they place you with a company?  I need accurate info as I don't have money to throw away and want an MT career.  Thanks.
future of medical transcription?

I have been doing transcription now for a while, under five years, for a national.  How long do you all think it will be until it is a completely a speech recognition technology? My national is definitely trending towards the speech recognition and I just wonder how long it will be until it is totally that platform, and before hospitals and other nationals as a whole start using it mainstream.  Medical editing doesn't seem like it will be very lucrative as transcription has been in the past.

Just curious if any of you have a second job other than medical transcription -sm

and if so what do you do?  I have been doing this for almost 8 years and I would like to pick up a second job (preferably at home so I can keep my flexible schedule) but would like to do something other than transcription for a change of pace.  Thanks.

Encompass Medical Transcription

I have been contacted by this company out of Wakesha, Wisconsin.  The President/CEO is Tamara Brown.

I am considering accepting a position with them.  I did hear from 2 people and it was positive feedback.

Guess the company must be a well-kept secret!  LOL

Appreciate any news you may have on this company.

Encompass Medical Transcription
What restrictions are you referring to?  Clinic notes are at 0.74 cpl and 0.77 cpl and Hospitals they pay up to .10 cpl.  They offer bonuses, which seem attainable.   The national I am with makes it virtually impossible to get a bonus.  There is no incentive, that is one of the reasons why I am considering this company but I have not spoken with a recruiter yet.
Encompass Medical Transcription

Who contacted you?  You mean you did not inquire or apply for a position?

Encompass Medical Transcription
I have been hearing good stuff about them.  They are supposed to be one of the only MT companies that allow you to chose your hours and days.  They offer insurance, which is important to me.

My only concern is the 12,000 lines every pay period.  If their platform is really good, I am sure it should be no problem.  The one I currently use is a nightmare!  Constantly crashing and slowing down.  I work for a national.
Encompass Medical Transcription
Yes, I think it is for weekends.
Encompass Medical Transcription
How come? They didn't have enough work? Was there a problem with the platform?
Encompass Medical Transcription
Hey Teaser,

Thanx, for getting back to me. I appreciate it!
Not about ME, about OUR profession, you know, MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION?!?! SM

I haven't been talking about ME!  You're the one talking about me.  I'm talking about something that concerns us all.  If you can't see that, then you are blind.  Obviously this is a subject you are uncomfortable with.  You've yet to contribute anything of substance or intelligence to the discussion.  You've just wasted space insulting me.  You're a big part of the problem.

medical transcription certification

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out what the best all-around option is for gaining certification in medical transcription. (Balancing cost and quality of training)  This is what I've come across so far.  Recommendations would be very appreciated!

Penn Foster (online): Around $1000

Local Community College: Around $1300

TechSkills: Around $6000 (which I thought was ridiculous, since their training is done from online or prerecorded modules just like many other online or mail options)

Should I be looking for an Associate's degree, or is a certification (provided that it's accredited, of course) enough? I already have work experience on the clerical side of the healthcare industry.

Thank you!
