Again, I am not saying that everyone has to achieve that high line count. I was just challenging myself to achieve more in the time frame than I normally would.

I think that looking up words and medications is part of our job even though it does take from our typing time - that is unavoidable for everybody. I know that was much better when everybody was paid by the hour and not by production.

However, even working on production and having to take the time to look things up, I make much more than the $10-15 an hour that my local hospitals pay for their transcriptionist.

The job has its pluses and minuses - I guess there is no set answer for every question. That is one reason, as I said in an earlier post, I am going to college to get into another profession and be done with all of this.
